The short version of it:
The trick with torpedo bombers is to turn bow or stern towards approaching planes before they even drop. It forces them to either find a new approach (if the CV player executes manual drops and pays attention), or the spread will be very easy to dodge. Also, torpedo bombers don't hit anywhere as hard as ship-launched torpedos -- unless you are caught unaware and hit in the side by one or two squads' torpedo loads.
Be careful where you go with your BB. Narrow passages are calling for trouble, because any DD player who has got a little bit of a clue will be able to ambush you there with a fatal result for you! (When you finally spot them, they will have their torpedos on their way already.) Either stay out in the open, or make sure you have cruiser support.
