Not really. Small ships like destroyers fired almost exclusively High Explosive rounds. Cruisers fired both (examples would be Eugen in the Denmark Strait and the Yamato Taskforce engaging destroyers of a US escort carrier taskforce). Even capital ships fired HE occasionally. SMS Lützow engaged her opponent during the run to the South at Jutland with HE shells whereas Derfflinger fired AP. Which was the single reason why Lion survived. Had Lützow fired AP, Beatty‘s flagship would have likely met Queen Mary’s fate. While this engagement only shows a poor ammunition choice by Lutzow’s artillery officer it proves the fact that capital ships carried a certain amount of HE shells. But you are right that the primary ammunition type for ship to ship engagements was AP except for very small (eg Destroyer) guns.

Um mal wieder aus Stalins Fantasien zurückzukommen, ich hatte eigentlich gehofft, dass die Deutschen Schlachtkreuzer den Speedboost bekommen und die Englischen einen Nachladeboost (gegen höheres Detonationsrisiko). Nun hat WG aber den Speedboost auf die Französischen Schlachtschiffe verpulvert. Was sagen wir dazu?

Long range HE spam is ok for cruisers but toxic and idiotic for battleships. What is so hard to understand about this, dear WG? If the RN BB have proven one thing then it would be that HE spamming BBs are shice and the lowest form of playing. Not only boring and brainless to play but also toxic for the meta. Doesn’t look like they learned anything from this disaster. Really looking forward to the French BBs but the current direction doesn’t look promising. WG should encourage closer range engagements, this sniping, especially skill-less HE spamming (at least for BBs) is absolutely idiotic and boring.

Damn I like brawling. Before the DE BBs I even used Nagato to brawl. Gascogne doesn’t have to be a Turpitz but at least having the option to get close and personal would be great. Something between Kii and Tirpitz would be nice but I feel WG has different plans. How about supporting the 23km+ sniping and give them extended spotter planes so the ships don’t even need to move out of the spawn? Wouldn’t that be hella exciting...?

Uff... that’s not exactly promising. I mean 19km is too far anyway but 10-14 should at least do something. I don’t mind if they tune the line for close combat but then they should give back the secondary range to support this.

Urgh. Are they trying to kill the hype??? Who in hell needs another retarded [edited] line for braindead monkeys who are incapable of anything but point & click in the rough direction of the enemy (and get rewarded for this bit of nothing)?

Graf Spee is great fun but totally different to the rest of the German cruiser line which is totally undergunned save the two fantasy ships at T9/10 - where as Graf Spee is overgunned using BB guns. So it won’t give you a huge benefit grinding the line but you can still use her to train, retrain and mainly having fun with her. But be aware that these are just 2x3 BB guns with questionable dispersion (not as good as cruisers and not as terrible as most battleships). But the Volleys you can land with her are hilarious. So yea she’s definitely good fun :-)

Very well possible that you are right. However it would be hilarious fun to have such build. I mean they are never super efficient (maybe apart from Bissy/Turpitz) but the builds are fun. I even have a secondary build on Roon which isn’t the most efficient (like DE+CE) but it’s a lot of fun. So while I see your point and I am sad to hear the range got cut back to 5km I will keep my semi-secondary build in mind to potentially test it (in case the range will be 7km only though). I am not overly concerned about the Turtleback and citadel. I am fine with working around it (hot news: BBs do have a rudder... :-)) Can’t wait for this ship!

Wow that sounds extremely promising! 7km base range is great, I mean even if you slot the primary module and only spec the captain to 2ndaries (+ Flag) you’ll get about 9km range which is sufficient I would say. Maybe I’ll give that setup a shot :-)

Tier 6 Cruisers are in a rough spot due to being uptiered a lot. In case this doesn’t shock you here is my opinion: - Molotov - great T9 guns but squishy. Was hella OP hem released but changes in the MM And Powercreep left her in the middle of the pack. Still love her. - DeGrasse - very nice ship and a typical French cruiser. Somewhat trollish armor and super fast with boost. But a typical HE spammer. - Graf Spee - opposite, few slow firing big guns and surprisingly good torpedoes. Awesome ship but “special” These are the ones I own, I don’t have Duca but wasn’t really tempted due to low firepower and high vulnerability. She has the speed thing going for her though. De Grasse I would recommend, also the other two I own. Can’t help on the choice between Duca and De Grasse though. Good luck and have fun!

Damn! I like fireworks just for the noise it makes (less so the actual damage). What is the range? Have seen 5 and 7km - which one is right? Apart from range, how effective are the Secondaries? Aren’t they HE? Also - how tanky is she? I mean having an actual citadel isn’t an issue, Kii and Amagi have that as well and can still tank a fair amount of incoming presents.

Thanks for calling me “great” mate :-) Personally I love the idea of using the same class on two tiers simply for the fact that these ships changed so extensively during their refits that they became essentially different animals - more so in gameplay terms (armor, weapons, speed and appearance - all that changes completely). Especially the earlier versions are not much recognized and appreciated by the game. I own Kii, Ashitaka and Mutsu and absolutely love all three. I know however that a lot of players would prefer any kind of paper studies over the actual ships - and there are plenty between Nagato and Yamato. Some of them extremely weird looking but easily enough to fill two full lines. Only at low tiers you would struggle as most of the designs are 1920+. But coming back to your proposal, I love it. Not 100% sure if there are enough differences between a 1942 Kongo and a 1944 apart from AA to justify a tier difference but that is details. The overall concept of having ships represented on different tiers in (totally) different configurations is great (though I doubt WG and some fellow players fully appreciate the beauty of it).

What is the secondary artillery on this beauty like? The gun dispersion tastes Tirpitzy - maybe the Secondaries as well...?

France and Gascogne don’t really feature a bow on layout though.

Thanks. I guess at T3/4 it’s not a biggie as BB balance is pretty relaxed at low tiers. Impact on T6/7 is to be seen though, not a fan about the concept though. I am really intrigued about Gascogne, she looks pretty interesting. Wasn’t Gascogne a modified Richelieu with a different turret layout? How accurate would the ingame 3D model portray the actual ship (which hasn’t been layed down correct?)?

Submerged citadels seem to be pretty common these days. I still do appreciate the IJN citadels. It feels kind of rewarding playing around this downside. For the DE ships I am kind of ok as it is their flavour/strength. But I dislike the submerging of citadels on the other BB lines. Are all French BB citadels submerged?

So I had a brief look at the models. Some questions / remarks: - T3 Turenne, what’s behind that project? Is it a real blueprint or just a Danton with large guns? - T4+5 look awesome - little chubby buggers :-) - T6+7 - I had to puke. What kind of horse crap is that again. I know the plans for these ships but the 3D models look so wrong and artificial it is atrocious - T8 do we know whether Gascogne will be the Prem? - T10 well a super-Gascogne. Not sure yet. Time will tell. However I am looking forward to the line. Btw: do we know what the HE will be like? More toxic noob spam after the braindead Monkey-RN?

Bescheiden? Sowohl AP als auch HE sind extremst gut. Und die Schneetarnung sieht wirklich gut aus. Sicherlich ist das Schiff nicht OP aber gesund in der Mitte. Wenn du eine richtige Herausforderung auf T7 suchst fahr mal die Ashitaka... :-)
