    Edited,dirty trick clan.

So @Tyrendian89, which one are you? Oh btw, you guys should send some Hags over to the PL branch of TTT. My (not so competitive) clan was able to kick their asses (much to my own surprise to be honest ). Although the 43 points towards next rank were greatly appreciated
  2. Avoiding a double post, so I'll quote you two gents in the same post. In a response, feel free to requote this and delete the unapplicable part. How does this depend on your understanding of the word testing? He IS testing the drop chance. It just cost him a few hundred euros. Whether or not that's a lot for him depends entirely on his disposable income. A millionare won't feel that €600 (or whatever amount he spent), to a guy making only €100 a month however, this would be a fortune. So indeed it does entirely depend on the amount of disposable income somebody has if this is a sensible amount of money to spend on a test or not. Read my post again, and this time correctly please. Never did I say that my words were true for all people. I specifically bolded the "in general" parts for people like you, since I knew it was gonna trigger some folks. Just to make sure there is no misunderstanding here: "in general" means that the context does not apply to every individual. Rather, it applies to the general public, most of the times specified by the context. I can agree that my context does not specify my "general", but I meant it as "the average human being". So I never said that there can't be a guy that gets smarter with age. All I said was that in general (as in, the average human being on this earth), things like brain power and tactics usually decline a bit with age. Which is true, in general. The optimum of brain functioning is usually somewhere around age 22. At age 27, the average brain already starts declining. Consult neurologists if you don't believe me. (notice the bolded parts? Thought I'd put extra emphasis in them, since you seemed to have missed them in my previous post). Then to your example of generals and yourself. Of course there is such a thing as learning through experience. As a teacher, I always encourage my students to practice as much as they can, because I know all too well that experience is the best teacher. Theory is just a foundation upon which your knowledge will be built primarily by experience. Prime example in this very thread is @justadude0815, as he jumped straight into the high tiers and learned by experience. HOWEVER, if you actually bothered to read my post thoroughly, you'd have noticed that I never talked about experienced gamers. I talked about new players, new gamers even. In my example, I specifically mentioned a guy with NO gaming experience WHATSOEVER. So what's the relevance of one guy having 20 years of gaming experience to my post? That's just one guy against all the new players/gamers I was talking about. I never talked about people like you and me, people who have been gaming for 20+ years (yes, I've been gaming since I was 7 or 8). Of course we have more experience and can adapt easier to new games/situations. But what we can do is completely irrelevant when talking about the average human being. We are, in that respect, quite weird. In general, people tend not to have 20+ years of gaming experience. In general, people will not adapt as fast to video games as we do. In general, brainpower will decline with age. And that's exactly what I was talking about. For some individuals, this event might be fantastic. But in general, new players will not benefit from it. That was the whole point of my post(s). Lastly some other tidbits I'll just mention without going into as much detail: How would you know that 50 year old general wouldn't have been a better general when he was 20? I'm not saying he would of course, I'm just making the point that we cannot prove either way. 35 is not old, I was talking about age 50+ (remember I specifically said 50 in my example? Used that number for a reason. Such a shame people keep missing these little hints to what I actually mean to say) I never said WOWS is a game that depends highly on reflexes. Compared to a shooter, it's very relaxed. But to a guy that has never played a video game before, it might be overwhelming, especially quick paced destroyer gameplay. Small disclaimer: Please don't feel offended by some stingy remarks in my post. It's all meant rather constructive, but in my mind I've said literally everything before, so I felt a little annoyed at some points. Please don't mind them, it's not meant as snarky as it may sound, it's more meant as a little hint with a wink, where the tone is more due to my cynical and grumpy character ;)

    Server problems?

Aaaand my luck is gone Game won't let me back in. Damn you RNGsus
  4. Bellegar

    Server problems?

So that portal thing is not accurate at all... Still says servers online with 22k players online Also, I was lucky enough to have just finished my Cesare game with 145k damage. I just returned to port, opened the daily container and then got kicked. Lucky for once, thank you RNGsus
  5. Bellegar

    Server problems?

Does anybody know how accurate that server status thingy on the portal is? Because it says that servers are available and that 25k players are online.... whereas 'only' 28k were online before I got kicked..... so did only 3k people get kicked, and what should I do to be among the 25k playing people next time?
  6. Bellegar

    Server problems?

Yep me too. Somebody forgot to feed the hamsters this morning
  7. Depends entirely on your financial reserves....
  8. Bellegar

    Bretagne GFCS Bug

Ah this explains why I thought the range of Bretagne to be so lackluster
  9. I know And of course you're not going to include a Swastika in your game. I do understand that. But fair enough, I'll wait for that statement and poke you afterwards if I have more questions. That statement will be on the forums or portal right? Not just reddit/twitter/facebook/whatever media that is not related to the game. Edit: Am I right in remembering something about flags? Was there something in a preview video for this year or something? I certainly remember some hype about an upcoming flag feature...... Edit 2: Found it! It was something during the aftermath of the China vs China argument. There was going to be a feature to replace the default flag with a different flag (from preset options of course). Now before I get my hopes up, @MrConway, are you talking about that feature or something different?
  10. Really? I quite like her so far (only 2 games in). The forward facing middle turret is a huge relief after New York, Texas and König. It should turn into regular ship upon official release. At that time, you can start using your xp. They made them premium for the time being to not have people unlock the T10 already ;)
  11. That was a fun game. I was able to surprise @Troublemaker_CRO in his puny DD for some accurate Amagi fire from a few km out BTW @Durin_VI was on your team as well
  12. I want to smack you in the face for that insult as I'm a BB player........... but seeing the thread, I have no choice but to agree with you
  13. Well he did say he got them in his first post of today The first container I opened (mission reward) gave me Bretagne mission
  14. No it's not. People like you are the reason we keep seeing these retarded missions from WG. It's people with permanent premium account and a huge amount of doubloons and premium ships that are the reason others can play for free.
  15. And people like you are exactly the reason why WG keeps inventing stuipd stuff like this

    0.6.9 YAMAMOTO CAMPAIGN

Doesn't make it a good mission design. Clear Sky is way too hard to get. There should be no missions requiring that stupid achievement.
  17. If you read my earlier posts, you know that I don't really disagree with this. I'm probably one of the most vocal opposition of this mission set in this thread. I didn't put it this blunt, but yes, I believe giving everybody a free T8 ship is a retarded idea. But I've already made a few walls of text about this, people buying premiums and learning vs leaving, I'll not repeat my arguments again. What triggered me was the pure elitism in your previous post (I want to win, so nobody's allowed to have fun, we should all play competitively), that's all.
  18. Just grabbing your attention with the notification.... argument incoming Thanks for the statement @MrConway. While I still disagree with WG's mistreatment of the official forums as communications channel, that's a discussion for another time and place. First of all I would like to make clear that I understand your reasoning behind the Swastika mods. Just like Jumpa said, I can disagree with it (I'm actually not even sure if I do), but at least it makes sense. What's my argument all about then? Well, it's about what I believe to be double standards. You see, the Swastika is actually not a forbidden symbol, even in Germany. Of course it's display gets frowned upon, but whether or not it's forbidden depends on the actions and the context of the display. As such, it's allowed to be shown in historical context (which this game might be). However, I understand that you guys don't want to take any chances in this case. It's a very controversial symbol and the choice to not endorse it in mods is a sensible one. That said, what bothers me is the exclusion of the Rising Sun flag (not forbidden by law, even in China or Korea), the censoring of the Pan Asia flag (but the China vs China argument really has no place in this particular discussion, so I'm willing to let that one slip here) and the exclusion of the Imperial German Navy flag (not forbidden by law anywhere, even less controversial than some other flags I mentioned), while including the Soviet Hammer and Sickle flag (this one is actually banned by law in various Eastern European countries. It's use is a criminal offense). Just to make this abundantly clear, this is not a plea to remove the Soviet flag, neither is it a plea to include a Swastika in the vanilla game client. But I'd like an explanation why a bunch of legal symbols are left out of the game, while a symbot that's actually forbidden by law in some nations is in the game. @MrConway, @Tuccy, @Kandly, @Sub_Octavian, any explanation or reasoning would be very welcome.
  19. Oh please, stop being such an elitist. This is exactly the kind of comment I talked about earlier: Just a page ago, there was a very constructive discussion about people learning different ways and having fun in different ways. And now you come stomping in and demand people to stop having fun. To be fair, you're not ridiculing him. But you are chasing him away. Which is weird, for without other players, who will you shoot? This is a GAME, the whole point of games is to provide FUN. You are not looking for a game, you are looking for a competition. That's fine, but don't flame GAMERS for having fun. If you want to play "more serious", there's ranked and Clan Battles. The only restriction on having fun in a GAME, are that game's rules (you can't have fun while teamkilling for example, that should get you banned).
  20. I think we actually agree more with eachother than we might think One think I'd like to point out though. I'm not talking about a guy with 0 games who buys a Tirpitz and plays T8. How bad that may be, he is in fact still paying server maintenance cost so I don't have to (to some extend of course). But this mission set is for free. They are taking the single potato barrier away: money. Bluntly put, even a poor idiot (notice me saying idiot, not newbie. Idiot as in 'people that don't want to learn') can now play T8. And because they're silver ships, even T9 and 10 eventually, a lot quicker than usual. A Tirpitz player that gets deleted and leaves the game at least gave WG €60. A 70 games newbie that happens to play T5 during the correct weeks that gets deleted in his T8 and leaves will have done noting for the business model. That's what irks me. I don't really mind the Tirpitz potato player, especially if he's willing to learn. Much like you yourself learned. But the newbie scenario.... that's just a waste of a potential fellow player. A potential forumite, a potential fellow community member. That's what makes me sad. I genuinly think (and I hope that I am very, very wrong!) that this action will scare away the proper newbies that really wish to learn, while the idiots (the potatoes that don't wish to learn) will still be there and be annoying. That's why I'm sad and why I'm typing all these walls of text. In the end, I enjoy playing this game. And I want others to enjoy playing it too, so we can enjoy it together in this community. But this action does not make playing the game more enjoyable for anybody. Only for the long time veterans that don't care for low tiers, but let's be honest, are those really the sort of people that need this kind of mission? Those people have enough free xp to buy whatever ship they want anyway. Last but not least, I'm definately no unicum myself. I'm a decent player, and I've been here a long time, but I don't have that many games (3000 might not be few, but concidering all the years I've played it's not that many). I do agree with you that elitism is the worst sin here. We shouldn't ridicule newbies, we should motivate them to become better. But I'm a part time teacher, so yeah..... that's kind of my natural attitude on how I see experience and learning Edit: Regarding this one.... @Aotearas might have put it a bit blunt, but I agree with what he said. Especially this bit: There's an old Chinese saying: "a teacher can open the door, but the student must enter himself". With this mission set, WG is keeping that door shut extremely tight. Yes, some unicums might come along and be able to ram the door in, but most people will just bang their heads at it, wonder why it won't budge and leave. But what do I know about doors..... I'm just a part time teacher
  21. First of all, I'm honestly glad for you that you have fun! That is of course the most important aspect of gaming. Then on to your points. Age has nothing to do with this. The sole reason why I mentioned it is a generation thing. In general, reflexes and hand-eye coordination decline with age. Also, in general, teens are more grown up with video games (I know some people here will disagree, but then again, this is a gaming forum. Mind the "in general") and have some sort of a 'feeling' for gaming. Lastly, and probably the most offensive (again, none meant!), in general, things like brain power and tactics also decline with age. I know people will disagree with some of those statements, but please bear with me, that is not the point of this discussion. I only brought it up because I wanted to give a concrete example of a Joe slightly below average. To be completely honest with you, I was actually thinking of Jingles when I wrote that example Then on to the point of my argument. I am always worried about old people having a heart attack, but not especially so in this case ;) I am not worried about people not having fun without completely dominating everybody else. I am worried about people not having fun due to being completely dominated. Of course people can learn at T8. You yourself are an example of that. But it is more difficult. In general (there may always be unicums that are the exeption), people should not jump tiers, because every tier is part of a learning process. Right now (and not only with this special) WG is pushing new players to reach the highest possible tier as fast as possible. That is not good at all. People should play the tier they're comfortable with. If that's T9 fine, if that's T3 also fine. All I'm trying to say is WG is actively pushing people to take a leap of faith. I just hope the new players won't drown in the chaos and different gameplay that is high tier games. Lastly, of course good mentors are very good for learning the game, it's tactics and mechanics. But CB is a competitive environment. The enemy will be harsh, way harsher than in a random battle. If you want to learn by mentoring, it's better to division up with a clanmate. @Verblonde worded it quite nicely. He gave a hands-on example of what I was trying to say.
  22. I know what he's saying, but I want them to also say it here. I have an argument at the ready, but I don't want to argue on reddit (don't have an account, don't plan on making one), and I want to leave the pitchforks in the barn at least until they had the chance to comment on it here. You know, neutral ground and equal chances and all that.
  23. Like he said: the fuk? @Sub_Octavian, @Tuccy, @Kandly I'd like an official statement and explanation for that on the official forums. If you want to change something that affects so many players (as you said yourself in the opening post Sub, Aslains is quite popular), could you at least talk about it on your own forums?
  24. Aslain has always been safe. There were people 'reporting' being banned for using nothing but Aslain. I never believed those people, and turns out it's utter BS. Like I said, it's either people being stupid (by doing what you described) or lying.
  25. Let me paint a picture.... A friend of mine played a long time ago in open beta. He reached Omaha, but returned to Tanks after playing 100 games in Ships. If he now starts playing and gets lucky, he'll have a Richelieu without much effort. It's a free ship, so of course he's going to play it. We all try out our new toys. He will get his [edited]kicked because he won't know what's happening. We all know T8 ships see T10 all the time. He never faced a Yamato, he might not even know it exists. He will get deleted by glorious overmatch mechanic. Much fun. Next game, he will see a Kurfürst and will burn to death by secondaries which he didn't know were a thing. Much fun. Next game, he will meet a Gearing and be torped to death since he's not known to the clumsyness of T8 BBs. Much fun. Next game, he has learned and it kemping bush behind an island. The Des Moines on the other side radars him and he gets nuked by a Montana. Much fun. Next game, he decides to fall back to not get deleted. But he fell back a little too far and is 7 km from the nearest ship. Taiho sees this and deletes him. Much fun. This is not a far fetched scenario. And that friend of mine is actually better than the average new player since he has Tanks experience, and as such should have some awareness about general game mechanics. Let's imagine a 50 year old guy (no offence to 50 year old guys here!) that has just started playing. He has never played video games before, but is interested in ships. He has slightly below average hand-eye coordination (as can be expected from a senior, again no offence!). He likes nimble little ships, so his line of choice is IJN DD. He played a few games in T5 at the right time, got lucky with the loot box and gets a Richelieu. After playing some more, he completes the mission and actually gets the ship. He then takes it for a spin without even knowing how to select AP. He shows just a bit too much side and gets citadelled. This is why this is a bad idea. People should learn by experience. There's progression over the tiers. The gameplay of a T8 is hugely different from T5. Remember you can even earn the ships by playing nothing but Coop. You cannot throw a 70 battles player into T8 and expect him to do well. He will die a horrible, agonizing death. This is not fun for himself, for his team and even for the enemy. After a few games of instakill he might even decide this game is not for him and quit forever. Good job WG, you just chased away a potential player and customer. He might have learned in his own pace by progressing the tiers. He migt have become a decent player. He might have bought some premium ships and time. He might have thrown money at WG because he likes the game. But none of that will happen because he was chased away from the game by WG marketing that decided it's a good idea to let complete newbies be clubbed by unicums in T10s. Edit: I just remembered something that's even worse.... you can compete in Clan Battles with a rental ship if you've played 1 game in T8+ Now let's go back to our 70 battle newbie with his Richelieu. He plays 1 game in the Richelieu and unlocks the rental ships. He can then play Clan Battles. I cannot stress this enough.... this hypothetical guy will be able to play his 72nd game EVER in a T10 Clan Battle! And you can easily reach T5 in way less than 70 games, so I'm actually being generous with my assumptions here Edit 2: Thanks @dasCKD for recommending my post, I'm flattered
