  1. Reached rank 1 after a few more games, made a few howling mistakes. Saw some truly epic game play from some very experienced cruiser players in Marbleheads, and Murmansks. Learnt a thing or two from them. Saw some good team play from players with only 180 games (suspected duplicate accounts). And yes communication other than AB, BC, people giving directions to other players regarding tactics, points wins, time remaining, don't chase the DD in a BB, etc. So I hope some less experienced players gained something too. I really enjoyed it. Did not seem like a horrible grind. I do hope they repeat something similar for other tiers too. Overall a big plus 1 to Wargaming for this.
  2. I started this afternoon, am at rank 3, and must admit, it is bags of fun. What I find very surprising is that the players communicate, stick to a plan, co-ordinate. Much more than the tier 8,9,10 ranked battles. It reminds me of the Closed Beta Test. Yet to meet a brain dead team (probably just cursed myself)

    Forgiven

Its part of being a well rounded adult, to assess the consequences of ones actions, and act accordingly, and to take responsibility. It needs to be put in perspective, this is a game we are talking about.

    Too many dd

I've seen lots of games with 5 destroyers per side. I've seen games recently with no destroyers. I've even seen a game with no battleships, no destroyers, only cruisers. The last odd ball game I saw was one where the matchmaker took 1 minute 45, to put a team together, it was ALL tier 6 ships, and it was a very enjoyable game. Complaining about how a game actually plays within its own rules? Now that is crazy.

    Hood vs Scharnhorst

I always manage to do more damage in the Scharnhorst, than the Hood. I love the Hood as a ship, but her dispersion, and her lack of penetration can make her frustrating to play. Yes you can go very fast, but to where? run away perhaps.

quality of play and time of the day

I'm self employed, run my own business. This means I can play at any hour. Mornings and afternoons are variable in terms of the quality of play. Late afternoon, when the schools empty, and early evening are the worst. The later in the day it is, the better the quality of game. Playing at 4pm to 9pm, is just chaos. They won't play the objective, are not aggressive enough in trying win. Their sole motive is to get "some" XP for their next ship, not realising that more damage and actually winning gives more XP. I had a game where a top tier Alabama just kept sailing away from the enemy, giving complete broadside when he try to shoot and missed most of the time. I advised him to angle his armour and push forward and try to cap (late game). He just said he was new to the game. He had 49 games, and this was his 50th, with a 40% WR. How is that thrilling and engaging for the rest of us, the other 11? Wargaming?
  7. ARE THEY THE SAME ONES WHO DO NOT KNOW HOW TO SPELL AND WHERE THE CAPS LOCK KEY IS?

Pay to Win Players/ Free to Play Players

I have noticed a certain undesirable element of society and within the game itself, in so much as the welfare claimants and F2P types can post on these esteemed forums. We simply cannot allow such low brow intellects to voice their uneducated opinions, not to mention the constant moaning about match making, and over powered ships. We as the superior of the species must have our own separate forum page away from the hoi polloi and general rif raff. There really should be a separate forum page both for premium players and owners of premium ships.

Pay to Win Players/ Free to Play Players

It is like the curse of the Monkeys paw. Be careful what you wish for. For owning the Belfast means you will be "entitled" to a different match making algo, lots of and lots of potatoes, and noobs, merrily being burnt down, giving broadside to battleships, ignoring torpedoes, and all on YOUR team. You'll get 4, or 5 kills, but you can't save the lemmings from self inflicted destruction (the green hair variety, not the fluffy ones). If you do get a winning team, the two fates will befall ye:- 1. You'll be out of position, and the enemy team will melt before you get any real damage. 2. You'll catch stray torpedoes, and be the first to die. I saw this advert for Oxfam saying that they could supply a family in Africa with clean water for £2 a month. Anyone got their number? I'm switching suppliers, mine charges £240 a year!

But we need to separate the poor wallet warriors, from the true wallet warriors. Only having one premium ship does not qualify for 1st Class status, owning a bought Sims, Gremy, Belfast, and Crispy cream does!

What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?

Having your repair loaded up quickly is good for stopping fire and flood. Both builds I've used work. They are not that critical to the ships performance. It is up to the individual to choose what suits them and their style of play. Next I'm going to try a survivability flavour.
  12. *edit He can't see the irony of Iran complaining about the USA, in real life and on the forums. Irony and satire are lost on him. to OP. Some animals are more equal than others.

What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?

With Jack Dunkirks "Jack of all trades" and the appropriate signal, your consumables reload much faster, that is repair and smoke. I've only had my engine taken out once. I popped smoked, waited a second or two and used the repair. Essentially getting shorter times between smokes in very useful.

What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?

I put Jack Dunkirk in her with the following skills:- Worked out OK. 1. Priority Target 2.Jack of all trades (faster smokes), Expert Marksmen (faster turrets) Smokescreen expert (confuse enemy, hide friends), Adrenaline rush. 3.Demolition expert 4. Concealment expert. I also have the smoke screen module from the Arsenal that extends the smoke time. This is a must have!!! I did not select last stand, as I can pop smoke and repair quick with Jack of all trades.

What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?

With this setup I have either been lucky or it suits it better. 19 point Captain, 1. Priority Target. 2.Last Stand, Adrenaline Rush. 3.Demolition expert, Basic firing training. (Increase DPM and fire chance) 4. Concealment Expert, RPF. (RPF to get guns and torps pointing in the right direction ready) The Icarus plays well with other RN DDs working over the same target. Target seems to dither or panic. Managed to despatch a few cruisers charging caps, newbie players I expect.

What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?

Jingles has wheeled out a video for the Icarus. I love games when only one low RoF ship is targeting me too.

What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?

The lack of speed, and speed boost makes capping or cap contesting extremely risky, unless you know for certain that there are no cruisers hidden behind islands or in concealment. Getting caught early in game capping usually results in a knife fight with an enemy DD, whilst his support wrecks you. Smoke will not help you. The torpedo speed and damage is anaemic. You take the risk to get in close, get two, three or four torpedo hits, and they are not sunk. I can get Acasta to work, but Icarus, Jervis, and Lightning? They are sub par against everything they face. Get spotted, get wrecked. They are the easy kill that all eyes turn to for some quick XP. I do get the very occasional good game in the Lightening, but its usually due to the opposing team playing badly. Why bother with the Icarus? When the Gallant is a better ship?

    Acasta thoughts??

The more I play her, the more I like her. Popped a 19 point captain in her, and 7 smokes. I popped up here and there in front of approaching BBs, so easy to set fires, set a fire on one, switched targets, sets fires every where, smoke runs out, move away, repeat. Most BBs and cruisers will put out one first straight away, so for them to take a torpedo shortly after is lethal. With RPF, I can hunt DDs and have my guns/torpedo tubes all pointing their way, once I spot them unleash the torps and start firing, panic usually ensues and they start firing back, until the torps get them. She has now joined the Kamikaze as a fun ship to play when higher tiers frustrate you. 2 or 3 together or just in the area together make short work of other DDs.

I lost my game, and not to players...

HMS Glorious was sunk by Scharnhorst and Gneisenau. Remember the CBT days when a Cleveland or Atlanta would assign themselves to protect either a CV or BB group. Wargaming created their own mess by making a game that does not reward team play effectively. Its all about how much damage you can do, how many ships you can sink. So don't be surprised when players are selfish. CVs were badly implemented and very badly documented in game. To play effectively you'd have to watch a Youtuber explain the various functions/key combinations, and then you'd be still left wondering why you could not disengage your planes, or why your planes did some other weird stuff. The overhead view was just Artillery from WoT thinking, hardly original. The ideal way forward would be to offer a choice, you do it the old way, then you get this result, you do it the new way, then you get that. Carrots and sticks. The current way has failed, utterly failed. You see lots of CVs in tier 4 and 5, then people get turned off by them, but those that persist become polarised in either being all powerful for your team or useless for your team. CV should be in every match, and balanced to reward skill, like other classes are.

    Acasta thoughts??

I like her. I saved my anniversary tokens especially for the upcoming RN "Gift" ships, so I could put 4 ten point Dasha's in them. I didn't think she would be any good with 6km torps, but she has caught out quite a few DDs, abd charging cruisers. Against other DDs, once they have lost a bit of health, she is lethal. I'm expecting the fun to get better, once my flock of Dasha's have a few more skill points.

    Yūbari, yay or nay?

The trick with the Yubari is to be always second line, in the background. Your guns are very accurate and with the right captains skills like demolition expert, and super-intendant, not forgetting flags you can set a fire on a BB at long range, then switch targets, set fires on everything, some fire for you, and you, not forgetting you, oh yours has gone out, let me help you there with a new one. But always stay well back, be sure to have ships in front of you, to attract enemy fire. Your shell arcs are quite high, so learn to use the aiming circle on the minimap for those ships that think the are safe behind an island. You'll need to have models and skills to protect your rudder and engine, DD last stand for example, as when you do get hit, they always fail. A fun ship, but needs some skill to play.

What is the "flavor" of the new RN DDs?

Acasta: I was expecting a turd, with 6Km detection and 6Km torps, but have had some fun games in it. Its like a mini Sims, very good guns, and agile rudder shift, very good in defence as cruisers advance onto its torpedoes. Icarus and Jervis......sigh. Not had a good experience, and teams have been terrible, so I reserve judgement Lightening: , the range of the Torps is worthwhile (8km), but don't try to contest caps unsupported, very fragile. Edited as was talking out of my arse.
  23. I bought 3 containers and got nothing, I then played RN ships, completed all the missions and got 4 challenges. Now have all the DDs with a 10 point Dasha in each.

    Level of play - Perception?

Today has been loss after loss, but it is a Saturday. Thing is that it can in some instances not be a game, just a struggle to survive, and do as much damage as possible, as your team disappears in the first few minutes. Todays highlights:- I was asked by a Nurnberg "how do you turn the smoke on?" ......yeah you got to tier VI, with no idea of the abilities of your chosen ship. I was castigated by 65% WR player for being useless, as I didn't cap, straight away in my first trip out in the lightning (RN DD). He pushed to far forward, and was the first to die (Des Moins) I then went on to sink 2 BBs and a Zao, topped the leader board for a rare win. The match making could be accused of being rigged as usual, stomps by >50% teams, on <50%WR teams. But that has been discussed to death. I know one thing.....If the level of game play does not improve, then I'll give up weekend play. Its pointless. It seems that the only good games are on week days, late at night, when the kids have to go to school, and daddy has to go to work the next day.
  25. She is fine as she is. If don't have a valid target to hit then learn how to scout and spot for your team. You know, keeping low visibility ships in view so that your team can hit them, those other pesky destroyers and hidden cruisers. She also has guns, and with the right captains skills, and your own can use them!. It is not only cruisers that can fire around or over land, not to mention from smoke. Sometime being unseen, unknown and not firing your weapons can be very useful. Spoiling the attacks of others helps your team stay alive and win!
