Did WG just kill DD gameplay?

With the old CVs, if a player wanted to perma spot you with fighters, then his CV, and other squadrons would be unprotected and his fighters could not attack you.. Now they can keep you spotted, and attack you. I can't keep them off me even in a Sims with full AA build. If a CV has a hard on for you, you either stick with the big boys are get screwed. The CV implementation needs quite a few tweaks. I'm still seeing very one sided games where a good CV player can completely carry a team. They still have an influence that no other ship class has. The ability to strike anywhere, repeatable, with no need for anybody to spot for them, without suffering counter attack. Its like having a camping BB at the back, who can see all the ship on the map, and attack what they like.
  2. The main issue as I see it that destroyers, and ship with low AA are compromised. An aircraft carrier can hide in the corner of map and cover the entire map without penalty. It can search the map for the weakest target, and proceed to execute it. The cause of this is unlimited range. There is no limit on the weight of fuel and weapons the planes can carry. My proposed solution is to limit the range of aircraft from their carrier. If your CV is near A cap, your planes don't have the range to get to C cap, and have limited time over B cap. You would as a CV player need to select your targets or support a push on a cap. You would need to a certain extent destroyers to scout in areas you cannot reach. You'd need to sail to that area to be effective in that area. You could extend the range (more fuel) of your aircraft with a module or captain skill, but at the expense of the weight of weapons carried. Carry drop tanks? less bombs or rockets then.

DD tactics for 0.8.0, how do we survive?

The only way I've survived in destroyers so far, is not to be too far from something with good AA. Taking careful note of my zones, switching them, very rapid turns and not going too near caps early game (its a trap, and you tell everyone you are in it). Alternatively I notice that most CV players send their planes to the usual places to find destroyers, near caps, near strategic points, so I'm not there, I'm out of position until they move on and find a target. Most have short attention spans. Then I rush to get in torpedo range of my target, fire torpedoes and bugger off sharpish. If I have short range torpedoes I simply must stay near something bigger and support. Longer range torps allow me a little more freedom. I've also reskilled my regular captains to emphasis AA. Even my little Acasta manages 3-5 plane kills on occasion. Just got to keep that zone facing them. Sometimes if I'm spotted by a CV and he attacks with torps or bombs, by the time he comes back with rockets I'm somewhere else or close to big AA. However if a CV is determined then you are finished. But all the time they put into finding you and killing you is saving someone else. Usually a potato :(

  7. Way back when I bought the 3 ship package to get in the closed beta. All those three were quite good and fun to play. Over the many patches the Sims lost it effectiveness due to better rudder shifts on larger ships, the Gremy for some reason never really seemed to suffer the effects of newer patches. But my dear old favourite, the floating citadel with tinfoil rudder and engines has been stomped on nearly ever patch. This new patch is surprisingly no exception. The Yubari's base AA is 15. Yes 15. I did not realise how bad it had become. But not to worry, it has defensive fire, with a hit probability of between 72-77%. for short range and long range. Except it does nothing. Multiple attacks flew through my zones, and continued on their merry way regardless. I closed to the two carriers, and between fighting off a Phoenix, was within 3km, killed one, the other got away. Yubari shot done ONE plane the whole match, ONE, just ONE. Got dive bombed and boom, dead (was low HP). Before the CV rework it was much effective as an AA platform. The defensive fire consumable appears useless. I know it is low tier and most people don't care about tier 4. But to sell a product and treat it like this? Who do they think they are? Bethesda? EA? Activision? Will any other Yubari owners please share their experiences with this new patch please.

    General feedback

Positives: 1.The anti aircraft gun sounds are much better. As is the sky filled with black smoke clouds from it. 2.The CV game play as a controllable air wing is great I enjoy it. Torpedo attacks look much more in the spirit of actual events. Negatives 1. Destroyers are now usually permanently spotted, focused to death. Their saving grace of stealth has been removed. 2. The Yubari as an AA platform is a joke. I paid money for this ship. I don't enjoy being scammed. 3. HMS Hoods guns are still laughable. She had MK1 15" same as HMS Warspite. I can do more damage in a tier 6 premium than a tier 7? Please correct this or give us an option as an upgrade. 4. The mechanic of focusing air targets by sector is clunky, and takes too long in game. Either shorten it or revert to the previous system 5. The CV should be controllable as a ship in all circumstances. 6. Since CV planes can now range far and wide spotting everything in sight. The air detection of all ship classes should be reduced. Your maps are tiny after all.

DD 0.8.0 The murder of an entire ship type

A destroyers role is to scout, find the enemy and torpedo if possible. I would suggest you play the game more, you appear to spend more time on the forum, than in battle. The role of the destroyer in this new meta is to proceed slightly ahead of a cruiser, doing what? Most stealth IJN types or RN types have almost zero AA. Go figure.

DD 0.8.0 The murder of an entire ship type

If you have to fight and win, who would you choose to fight? The guy who works out at the gym? The guy who does karate? The 6 foot 6 brickshithouse wrestler?.....or a weak feeble small kid who in most cases can't hit back? or survive too long? And that is what is happening, they choose the easy kill. When you deprive a class of its defining feature, you make it useless. Destroyers rely on stealth. That has been effectively removed. How about a cruiser with a reload of a battleship? or a battleship with 6km gun range? If they should change anything, it should be a reduction in detection by air, for all classes.

Yubari, the plane swatter is nerfed again?

I tried the Atlanta, and had some epic games, all losses unfortunately. Knocking 30+ planes down each time.

    How to make Jutland work?

I just can't get this thing to work. I'm using an IFHE build, tried main guns and torpedo boost, not noticed much. I'm losing to Shima's in gunfights, Fletchers make mince meat of it. The only real success I've had is shooting down aircraft! It has a heal, but what is the point in a gunfight, that will see you reduced to a smoking wreck before you can activate it. Cap contesting is very dangerous, you don't have the speed to escape or get out of radar range. If you are having success and fun in it, please let me know your module choice, captain skills and tactics.

HMS Vanguard - T8 Royal Navy premium BB proposal

I have about 18 battles in her now. She is hard work indeed. Guns can be accurate, but rarely do huge damage. The only way I can hope to survive and continue to do damage is the worst BB play style. Stay back, use concealment, constant zig zagging to either avoid incoming fire or bring all the guns onto target, as it can't tank. This of course gets the team angry as all they see is a camping at the back battleship. You must keep enemies away from concealment range. The only way I can do damage is to aim for upper works. Ive yet to citadel a broadside cruiser, it just over pens. Nearly 50% or more of hits are ricochets, or over pens. Which is not good as it only has 8 guns. You are effectively playing with less than four guns, if they all connect. It has no saving grace, no hydro, no spotter, no radar, no defensive AA, no speed boost, no reload acceleration, nothing of real use. It has a heal, and with such a high citadel you will need it. You may say it can fire every 28 seconds, what is the point if the guns, are ineffective. A tier 8 premium BB? No. Perhaps tier 7. Compare with other tier 8', s Germans, US, very tanky excellent secondaries and OK AA People know its a soft target and focus it as a result. It is a high price piece of garbage. I've yet to see another one in battle.

Vanguard: lacking something to be good

Just had a game were our team was wiped out and i was CV focused to death. Vanguard shot 1 plane down from a Shokaku strike of two torp squadrons, and two dive bomber squadrons. Shot at cruisers: 11 over penetrations, 4 Ricochet, 2 penetrations. All against broad side Atago and Salem. In any other BB those cruisers would have suffered. It barely scratched them. It is a weak ship that is easily punished. It does not shine. Ultimately it is not fun to play for me. Scharnhorst is fun, Massachusetts is fun, even the free ship Duke of York is fun. When I do manage to land shells on target, bugger all damage.

Vanguard: lacking something to be good

There is an element to it, but it is so frustrating to watch those shots that do hit result in "over penetration", bounce, shatter.

Vanguard: lacking something to be good

I was stupid and bought it, I can hit BBs all day long, and all I get with a salvo is over penetrations, bounce, and about 1158 damage from a shell or two that do go in. I even get bounces when shooting an almost broadside Worcester. In any other tier 8 BB that Worcester would be dead. ~Its just like the Hood, a mobile pinater for the enemy team, whilst every effort is ruined by lack lustre gun performance. I find I'm playing WoWs less and less as I'm getting sorely tired of their [edited].

    Nelson worth fxp?

Yes, much fun. With the right captain skills you can heal, and heal, er print new ship. Its HE salvos can be a real pain for your opponent if they are bow in, good damage, let them put the fire out, and oh dear you are on fire again. Make sure you are not leading charges though. And a salvo of AP can wreck cruisers and some BBs.

    African-american pre-saturday

Oh dear all the SJW's will put their soy down, waltz out of their closets for this thread. The attack of the NPCs!
  19. I am now, and can see it. £0.76 for 10, seems like a good deal to avoid the grind.
  20. I've not bought it, and I cannot see this deal. Please post a screenshot.
  21. That is a great idea, game wise. But from a business perspective, not so good. They need to keep players of all abilities playing, and hopefully paying. Those roflstomps are bad if you're being stomped, but great for the stompers. If you had perfectly matched (in ability) players, the game ends up being campy, few risks being taken, and it becomes boring. Now with random teams, its a complete gamble, and most people love to try their luck. Doesn't it feel good when you carry a team? save the day? Give the pond life a win?
  22. Its good that the OP is leaving for a while, healthy even. There are so many other things to do with your spare time than computer games. That World of Tanks advert:-Never played World of Tanks? You're wasting your life. How ironic. What I am surprised at is the OP's innocence. It is a game made by Wargaming (the owners), all their games are the same, play, grind, play, deal with life's idiots, play, etc More to the point most internet games are grind, grind, etc. I just play enough to get a few missions done, grab some free stuff, and leave. That PR thing (mine is 1592), does not take into account so many things, spotting, aircraft shot down, etc I can spend a lot of time in game keeping a stealthy cruiser spotted for my team to fire at. Helps the team, but I get little XP or damage for it?
  23. The premium radar ships are very fragile, and as others have said require a high level of skill to play well. A 19 point captain helps too. As an owner of quite a few radar premiums, I can tell you this, you will get focused, you will be a priority target, you will, or should be looking for advantageous situations or terrain constantly. Often by the time you get in said situation, the opportunity is gone. If you really want a premium radar ship, then the Atlanta is a good choice, you can use a destroyer captain in it. I would expect you to have 1 in 20 good games, whilst the rest, you'll be whacked within a few moments of your position being known to the enemy team. A good radar cruiser will use every island they can get to fire over, without being seen. You'll either learn quickly with pain, or just suffer, regretting you bought it. However, when you do find a destroyer who does not know you are there, you can end him quickly at close range, its glorious. Also burning battleships down whilst hidden behind an island is a secret pleasure of mine. I have 191 battles in my Atlanta, 46% WR in it. I suck at it. 28% WR for the Indy.Belfast 56%WR, but Fiji....Fuji is a Legend 65% (no need for radar) Looking at your stats, there are some ships you do really well in, the G101, the Bayern, etc So why not build on those positive traits? You don't have to sell low tier ships, just keep a few good ones in port that you do well in. There is no rush to the expensive tier X (more noobs there than at mid tiers). Personally I like to increase captain skills over tier progression. I keep a mix of ships (too many) that I can use for events and operations. If you really want to get some easy XP, operations are the way, predictable enemies will allow you to try different tactics to improve your skills. Good Luck, and remember premium ship is often not a pay to win option!

    Forgiven

I just had a rather good game where I was scouting a cap in my RN Lightning, keeping the enemy Harugumo spotted, whilst our Harugumo wrecked him. After that there was either by accident or design a situation where one was spotting whilst the other was shooting. Near the end our Harugumo sent a volley of torps out to a charging Amagi, but had not noticed I was in the way. I only took one, that took away 75% of my HP, and he went Pink. A complete accident. The player apologised after game. I wasn't actually bothered, as the pair of us had wrecked so many charging potatoes. If I could have forgiven him, and taken his pinkness away I would have. I'd like to see a feature in game to forgive accidental team damage. To err is human; to forgive, divine
