I bought the Sims in CBT, and it was "meh". After the recent (03/09/2015) update I equipped it with 9.2Km range 46knot torpedoes. I also equipped it with the AAA consumable. What do I think now? It rocks. I escort BBs, Crusiers, and CVs. I fire spread after spread of slow ruuning torpedoes, and still get hits. I never go one on one with anything. The AA is very much improved. Remove the speed boost consumable and replace with the AAA one.

Murmansk at tier 5 always turn a profit, and I can make 200K-350K on a lost game with the Atlanta. Basically any ship with fast firing guns, that can deal lots of damage.
-
It is so slow, by the time you reach the enemy then they are already killed by your cruisers, or all your cruisers in front are dead. You either have everything to fight with guns that load every 30 seconds, or nothing to fight. Not a fun ship to play, but I'm strangely attracted to it, and play it at least once every day.
-
Nope that is not what you need to do. You can still launch your torpedoes at 8-9Km or less. The enemies are advancing and will meet your torpedoes. But lets assume you do get within 7.5km. At 8Km you would start your turn towards the enemy, firing broadside on at 7.5Km or less. After firing your turn is still taking you away from the advancing enemy undetected. Why would you slow down? There is no need. If you drop smoke whilst you are undetected, you are telling the enemy that there is a destroyer in front, time to change course. I play the Minikaze a lot, and use the tactics I descibed for all my IJN DDs, and the Russian Gremy 8km torpedoe range 7km detectibility range. The way you describe how you think you will have to play is nonesense. I've never used the 10Km torpedoes, they are too slow. I'm an average player and don't delay the enemy, I sink them! with narrow spreads, head on, one dead centre, then one either side in case they turn either way. I do notice that you've only had 16 games in the Minikaze. You've still plenty of time to improve. I actually do better in my Gremy, which has a higher detection range! Good luck.
-
So much angst over the Minikaze? So what if the detection range goes up to 6.3Km or even if it went up to 6.9Km. You should be firing your torpedoes at ship that are on a converging course, ones that are getting closer to you. I can fire at 9km, or 8km, the ship comes towards them. If you need to get in closer, then ensure your turn, after firing will take you AWAY from the target, not towards. This change will only really effect players wit no captains skills or cammo paint. Overall it is a welcome patch.

As each nation has different strengths and weakness in this game, then I am not looking forward to the Royal Navy as Wargaming will portray it, especially if you look at WoT as an example of how they balance historical accuracy with gameplay. I also don't buy that bullcrap about secrecy with respect to RN ship or British tanks. Plans and data for so many vessels are available from the Greenwich Maritime museum, or in the case of tanks from Bovington's archive. Are they free? No, will you have to spend time and money getting them? yes. I'm not sure I'll be still around playing WoWs in late 2016, for me the novelty is wearing off already, especially when one sees the same game progression model as WoT being used, and all that brings with it. (which is why I ditched WoT after 2 years playing). With Fallout 4 being released in November 2015, I'll be gone for months! I do find it amusing that certain nations are added late to the game, if at all. And others like China in WoT , and Russia in WoWs that really didn't do anything of note in their respective forces are included as those nations are very nationalistic according to wargaming, and won't easily play other nations...............like the USN, or IJN? Its all utter bollocks and sometimes I get the impression they are just bumbling along making it up as they go.

I've just unlocked the tier VIII IJN destroyer Fubuki. This ship has a module, the concealment system modification 1 that gives -10% to visability. My captain is 1 skill away from having the level five skill concealment expert that also gives -10%, and with cammo paint, a further -3% would occur. The base detection range is 7km. But if these are cumulative then the detection range would be 5.49Km. That is better than the Minikaze at 5.9. If they are not cumulative then there is no point in having both a captain with the skill and the ship with the module. I'd be better off selecting a different skill or module. Does anyone know if they are cumulative?

The Atlanta is a very situational ship. If the enemy has no CVs, then your role is DD killer, but stay away from narrow channels, as your turning circle is huge. It will wreck DDs that get too close in very short order. When I play my DDs, and I see an Atlanta, I stay well out of sight. Don't engage in long range gun duels, the flight time of your shells is long, you can have two more salvos in the air, before the first hits, or misses. If the enemy has CVs, then you should escort your main CV, or BB. Is it worth the money? No, in my opinion, the Cleveland is a better all round ship. Yes you will get a the odd game were your AAA will clear the skies, but they are not that often. If I could get my gold back, I'd sell it in a heart beat. If you want to make credits. Murmansk all the way!

The imperial measurement system as used by two countries that held dominion over this planet. First the British Empire, and latter, the United States. If feet and inches can get a man to the moon and back, its good enough for me. Any person of intellect can use both, as required.

If you see a few ships heading your way, and need to be closet than their spotting range, drop a smoke screen, and stay behind it, don't outrun it. The smart cookies will stear away, but the dumbos will continue on. They are your target. Or you can island fight at close range. Its amazing how may higher tier BBs still take silly risks.

Gun range, in the Navies that mattered was quoted in yards.
-
Not just the Warspite. Take a look at the Mikasa, secondary armament is 152mm guns. Guns that on the St. Louis and IJN Chikuma have a range of 9km. On Mikasa? 3km base, but with captains skills 3.5km or so. Yeah sure........ WoWs is just another shoot 'em up game, and you run around a map in pixel form shooting at other people in their pixel forms. They give these pixel models names, and attributes, and talk about historical data. Its all utter, and complete [edited]. They then allow these imaginary vehicles to fight other imaginary vehicles from a completely different period in history? More [edited]. We just can't wait to see the Russian/Soviet navy, as wargamings previous history here will ensure no bias (Laughs 'till sides hurt), and we know how they will treat the Royal Navy too. Are you surprised that the German ships will be "different" ? and you think moaning on the forum is going to change anything? LOL. .......................and people are worried that their hero worship ship (pixels) will have poor accuracy? roflmao............. You know if it was MY game, I'd have set piece battles, as they were in history, The same ships that took part in those battles. As warthunder do now, arcade battles, realistic, and simulator. That would keep everyone happy. Its a game, a nice game. Just choose the set of pixels you enjoy playing, do well in, and have fun.

I find she has very strange and random accuracy. I often hit targets at maximum range, but miss at 3-4Km. I still enjoy playing her though. But she gets into games were she just does not stand a chance. definitely not a ship for beginners. Too slow to get to the action. You have to hide behind islands to get in range otherwise the opposing cruisers will turn you into a blazing wreck, before you can engage the enemy. The fact that its 152mm secondary guns have a range of 3km is such a joke. Whilst the 152mm guns on the Saint Louis and its IJN tier mate the Chikuma both have ranges of 9Km!!!!!! I have nothing but utter contempt for the wargaming development team. (It may show in my posts)

So many claims for a class of ship, that effectively was used once in combat. The Hood was sunk, but the Hood really should not have been there, being a lightly armoured battle cruiser. The Prince of Wales still had dock yard technicians on board that were working on her main armament. Hardly combat ready, but still scored enough hits so that Bismarck decided to head for France for repairs. The German ships are nice designs, good looking ships, but poorly employed and in the case of the Scharnhorst, poorly conceived. In game they will be balanced to suit their tier. Just like the Tiger 1 in WoT, they will not be all powerful. Its a game not a simulator. Did you know why the Bismarck could not stop the Swordfish attack? Because the AA gunnery computer/director was not designed to track such slow moving targets! Hence the FLAK was not as effective as it should have been. I can't wait to see what they do with the Graf Spee, and the RN for that matter. I'm sure it will be hilarious.

This is how, for a Minikaze captain, the typical battle enfolds:- Enemy DDs rush off and die trying to cap or not retreating when spotted, enemy cruisers go off in twos and threes. Lots of lone enemy battleships or small groups of battleships with no air cover, or screening cruisers or DDs. The vast majority of theses player will not have selected the concealment skill (sixth sense), or have rushed up the tiers and don't have any captains skills yet. Both the cruisers and the battleships have no idea that there is a Japanese destroyer around, as its captain is staying out of spotting range. His ideal target is 8-10Km away and heading towards him, he can fire at a slow battleship well outside spotting range, turn away or loiter for a reload and send in another spread at the same or other targets, before leaving the area. The enemy may dodge a few, but if they are firing at another cruiser or battleship they straighten up, ignore the fact they are being targeted and continue on before being sunk. The shear number of battleships that take two torpedoes, and still don't change course is quite frankly amazing. If they are in a one on one with another battleship, they often ignore the fast approaching destroyer on the other side of where his guns are pointing, they wrongly think the other battleship is the biggest threat. Its not, the destroyer is, turning at this point would make his battleship a more difficult target for both. But no, and 3 spreads, and he is sunk. The Minikaze is not overpowering. The quality and skill level of its opponents are sub par. The Minikaze teaches opponents the importance of co-operative team work. It teaches its captains the importance of concealment, situational awareness, and setting up your attack, and your escape well in advance. Battleships attract a certain type of player, there are good ones out there, but they are the minority, the vast majority are no hope'rs and morons. A lot of players have a WoT mindset, and think they are all powerful in their armoured heavy, with nothing to fear from light units. Wrong.

Meh. When have wargaming ever listened to the EU forums? We are just here to be milked. If the ships battle data shows a 50% win rate, they will do nothing, nor should they. Don't get me wrong, i like my Mikasa, I like getting an enemy in secondary range. If they buff anything, they should buff the dispersion. It can miss with all 4 main guns at 3km! My first games did not show this, just RNG I suppose. Its main armament is a joke too. It should wreck cruisers and destroyers, but does not. It does, in my case always seem to give me very bad RNG results for accuracy and damage. So when you do it, it does very little. Who does the most damage at 3-4Km? Mikasa, or any enemy cruiser? Enemy cruiser. You get four shots fired every 30 seconds, and they get soo, so many more. Mikasa.......Mobile Pinata for the enemy team to farm damage. With the IQ of the current OBT crowd, you are often focus fired upon, as you bought a premium.

Statisically MrMacavity is the better player. However I find it fun. The fact is, I don't believe its a bad ship its a bad ship. At low tiers battles, considering the ability of the vast amount of the players, its pretty much a lottery as to who wins. EDIT.... I've played a few more games in it today (should be working ) and I'm sorry to say that I was wrong. I have had quite a few MrMacavity "experiences" of missing dead cert. targets at 3Km, and when I have hit RNG gave me very low roles. I'm not going to sell it however until a few patches come out. If they fixed its dispersion, it would be a cracking little BB. For someone just starting out in WoWS and is still honing their skills, you should avoid.
-
You really make me laugh MrMacavity. Thank you. I've even thought about making a youtube video on how to play it. However, I've a business to run, and no time for such things. You miss at 3-4Km? really? LOL.......How do you aim? do you lead the target at all? allow for the targets speed and angle? Four bloody big shot guns and you miss at 3-4km? besides your secondaries will be wrecking a target a 3-4Km. Thank you so much for cheering me up. ......now back to work!

For goodness sake, its a premium ship that takes skill to get the best out of it. No amount of rage will change that. You should never sell a premium vehicle, what you get in terms of credits is derisory. And you most definitely should not sell one in game that is in beta, as its stats, or the ships it faces can change. If premium ships were as easy to play as standard ones, then who'd bother with the "Grind" If some people have terrible games in it, and others do not, then its not the ship, but the player. If you play the Mikasa, you can't just charge off into battle, you must plan where you are going to go, where the enemy is not the strongest, get in range using the cover of islands, be constantly aware of what is facing you, what is firing at you, and what angle you should present your armour at. If you see destroyers within 5km of you, shotgun them and immediately turn away, as the chances are that they have fired their torpedoes . If you are surrounded by enemy ships, then the game is over, and ask yourself how you got into that situation? team dead? or charging off into it? Nothing gives me more pleasure in this ship than watching a St.Louis, fire his broadside at my sides (15-30 degrees angled) and they nearly ALL bounce off! and those that do pen, do minor damage. I can even hit destroyers at 7km range with 4 guns firing, one hit and a tier 2 or 3 destroyer loses 70% of his health. ......and no amount of neg reps will change the fact, that you need some skill to use it and other premiums. Premium ships are not pay to win, they are pay to advance (xp) and earn credits.
-
Nothing wrong with the ship. Once you get some captain skills, and learn how to play it, how to use it, how to angle it. Had nine games in it today, 6 victories, the rest, last man standing. You must use cover to close the distance. Stick a couple of flags on it, if you have them. Flags? 1.MYS, adds a 5% to secondaries range, and -5% to reload.* Captains skills? 1.Basic firing skills -10% to secondary guns reload. 2.Whatever.... 3.Superintendent. Extra consumables, allows you to repair when not in a fire fight. 4.Advanced firing training adds 20% to your secondary range, 3km to 3.6km +5% for MYS* Tier 1 and 2 cruisers, just angle your armour at 10-25 degrees, driving forward, only using the forward guns. Most of their shots will bounce. Having closed the range without taking damage, by use of islands, you can swing it around broad side, let the secondaries open up, and really deal damage with all four guns. Use HE (Happy ending) most of the time, weaker cruisers you can get citadel hits on with AP. Saint Louis? use HE. It is not a sniper, if you sit in the open sea, facing 2 or 3 cruisers, unsupported, you will burn, you will fail. It is a close range brawler, and has the health pool for it. If you have taken significant damage, stop behind an island and repair! So far I've had fun in it.

Software development 101, 1. Alpha, internal testing 2. Beta. Select small group, to find and iron bugs out. 3. Release and sell. Bring out patches every so often to bugs not found in 1 or 2, no new features added as game is finish. Software team move to next project. Support team takes over. 4. Bring out add on features when sales fall. Software development WG, and others. 1. Alpha, internal testing 2. Beta. Select small group, to find and iron bugs out. 3. Sales and marketing pressure to get game to market, even though it is not fully researched, balanced or bug free. Revenue stream is required as we can't keep funding the software team for ever, so what the minimum we can release and still get sales? This is it! we'll call it Open Beta. 4. Keep software team working to bring new features and sales promotions. Increase sales! If there is any cogent dissent seen on OUR forums, give warnings, get rid of dissenters. The sad fact is that this is the new business model. If a game fails to generate sales, you can drop it, with no repercussions, they can change it with no repercussions. Steam early access is exactly the same. But who ultimately is responsible? You, dear reader, its you. You know what you are paying for, or not. You know its not finished if it ever will be. Caveat Emptor, let the buyer beware. However consumer protection laws in the UK, and the EU might have a different view. -
At least no one mentioned the Minikaze at tier 5.....doh.

Have had some really fun games in it. It is not noob friendly. It is, once you have learnt how to use it Fun!. It is a brawler. Use island to get in close to the enemy. If you can angle your armour so that they are firing at about 10 to 20 degrees, only front guns firings, and watch all the enemy shots just bounce! once in close range 3-4km swing broadside on, let the secondaries let rip, and bring all your main armament to bear. ~I was just amazed at the secondaries, I just watched as they ripped apart a poor tier 1 US CA. I would hate to go up against 3 of these in a division. I could well become the seal clubbers choice for tier 2, oh and its a premium too, so any IJN captain will do. If you try so snipe, the shot dispersion is terrible, expect to see your target bracketed, but not hit, a lot! Its fun, I like it, but then again I like the Albany too....wibble...wibble......NURSE!

A message directed to WG about 0.4.1 and Mods... is this really true?
Akula971 replied to Tsukotaku's topic in General Discussion
No mods? Great news! At last WG do something right. I've seen what XVM did to team morale, people just quitting, the rage, the focus fire on better players.
