The only way to win in this ship is to race (*LOL18knots) to an island or other cover so you are not in the line of long range fire, and island hop, attacking newbie cruisers who get too close. Out in the open, it is a dead duck. Smart enemy cruisers can stay at range, farming XP off your burning wreck.

I have 5th skill on my Fubuki captain, it is concealment expert. I also use him in my premium Atago. Normally the Atago is visable to others at 10.4km, but I can still shell ships at longer range as my guns reach 15.8Km. With my skilled captain and cammo paint, the ship cannot be seen until 9.1km in range. Shooting ships at that range is not easy, but thankfully so many players will sail in a straight line for far too long. Usually the enemy will taget ships that they can see consistently, so it is a great help. Its not a game breaker as EFFECTIVE combat ranges are usually much shorter. And all you need is a good non suicidal DD player to keep me spotted. It how the game works, play by its rules, learn the mechanics and have fun.

I find that in so many games, I launch a neat spread of torpedoes at a target, watch them on course to hit, and then out of the blue a so called friendly carrier thinks I'll attack that target. The target can see your planes way before they will see my torpedoes, and guess what? They target changes course to avoid the carrier attack, and the destroyers torpedoes miss. Just don't do it you muppets!

Destroyers - is 'smoking' it up a selfish habit?
Akula971 replied to Shaka_D's topic in General Discussion
I use smoke to break contact with the enemy. I also use smoke to hide friendly battleships who are on low health, so they can repair. I've never seen one yet, repair or make use of my smoke to escape. They just plough on regardless hoping that they can get a lucky shot on a 90% health enemy in thier 10% health ship. meh why bother? -

Yubari is worse than it was in CBT, but better than it was pre 4.01. I play the "Long Game" which means I protect carriers at the back from aircraft attack, or sneaky sneaks destroyers, then use the superb range to fire over mountains to rain HE on the enemy. Once they are set ablaze, I switch target, trying to set fire to as many as possible. With the extra consumable level 4 skill you get two defensive fire consumables. Using one is enough to disuade an enemy carrier captain, not to come back, and if he thinks I'm all used up, think again, and thank you for 27 aircraft kills. I'm lucky in have the concealment expert skill (Level 5), which means I fire at targets long range and they can't see me.

I have not noticed really, but I never fire HE, only AP. I target cruisers and battleships, looking for citadel hits. I play it like I play the Warspite. Load guns, swing the ship around, get guns on target, fire!, Swing ship again to angle armour whilst reloading. So I use the hull to aim the guns (rudder shift module), with only fine adjustment actually being done by the turrets. If WG have nerfed it, then its a pretty underhand trick to do. But nothing they do surprises me these days. Not British you see. No sense of fair play.

Don't mind mine. Fully upgraded with range and accurracy mods, it is fun to play. Wrecks cruisers with ease. I will say this. If I had not been given the Arkansas beta, I wouldn't have had much interest in either battleships or the US ships in general. Now I love my Arkansas Beta and my Warspite. It was free, and is worth keeping purely as a captain trainer. You'd be mad to sell any premium ship that you can use to increase captain skills. More so a free premium. Look at the other free ship, the USS Albany. Terrible ship. But still fun to play, if you play to its strengths, and not its weakness. Same for the Arkansas.

downright negative atmosphere in WOWS
Akula971 replied to CaptainSmeerlap's topic in General Discussion
Dear Captain Smeerlap, This game compared with other online games is a rose garden on a sunny day. I suggest the following: 1. Grow a "Thicker skin" 2. If the abuse is directed at you, ignore it. It is probably just some school child you has not learnt how to masterbate properly yet, and is hyper frustrated. Your next game will be different. 3. As with all online games avoid, as much as possible the early evening, and weekends when the "young ones"** are playing. 4. If words on a screen cause you such mental turmoil, then perhaps another game will toughen you up, make a man of you. I suggest Rugby, or perhaps Boxing? 5. Instead of venting on a forum, go for a walk in the Sunshine, and tell yourself its only a game. Say this over and over again. "Sticks and stone will break my bones, but words will never hurt me" ** Refers to mental age, and not physical age. Good day sir. BR Akula971 -
Play the Mikasa for a really painful time, and the Warspite for a fun time.

So how do you play it? I always go for cruisers if I can, as often they can be one-two shotted. I head towards them, turn the ship just enough to bring all four turrets onto the target, fire, then swing back to a slightly head on course, wait for loading and repeat. How do others play it?

Each ship will come with crews that cannot be trained. Often they will mutiny. they will only work on ships if there is premium vodka on board, but sailing and aiming of guns may vary.

I play quite a few premium ships and credits are never a problem. Shooting planes down is what the Yubari does best in its tier. Preventing a capital ship from being sunk by torpedo bombers, can easily swing the game towards victory. Carriers soon learn to avoid the Yubari and I've watched them take alternative routes to swing round my ship. Taking out 10-20 planes is very satisfying.

The way I see it DDs are not worth playing atm.
Akula971 replied to Kokos78's topic in General Discussion
I Concur with ParEx. When playing a battleship or cruiser, I find its best stay as a group, and overwhelm the opposition. What causes me problems when playing a battleship or cruiser? Having my detection warning go off, when there are no aircraft about, or enemies in view. Then I know there is a destroyer out there planning an attack run. So i have to start changing course or reverse course. I aslo play a lot of destroyers too, and can testify that it is easy to remain undetected, and seriously slow down an enemy advance with a few spreads of torpedoes. Just about to get my fifth captains skill, and I will choose Concealment expert which will my Fubuki detectibilty down to 5.4Km. BBut as a destroyer you are free to roam. Roam where you to want to, roam around the world. -
If the enemy have any brains, all they have to do is stay out of range, and spam HE. Then they can out run you and out gun you, as you can't fire back effectively. Please notice that Russian premiums are very good. I guess they don't like to remember that the Japanese showed them who was boss at Tsushima in 1905. I live in hope it will get a buff.

20 shots fired at about 5Km ONE hit. Shots are very short or very long. I'd like to meet the WG dev who set the specs for this turd. I'd quite happily either waterboard him/her or worse. I only play it for extra captain training, and with this turd, there is precious little experience gained. If there was ever a wargaming product that is motivating me to make a youtube video about it, its this Joke.

You don't have to use gold. All onsumables can be purchased with silver. Just click the little down arrow next to cost to select your preference. I am sure the duplicated data is just a typo.
-
I find that with some enemy players, you can spam torps out and the BBs will vear off or even retreat.

It is too slow to either close with the enemy or evade the enemy. It has a main armament that lacks range and accuracy. It can be "taken apart" by two to three tier one cruisers quite easily, as they will burn you to oblivion, whilst your main guns will miss most shots regardless of range. It is only any use against complete new comers to the game who get to close. To make best use of its armour, you must angle it, but this reduces your effective fire power by 50%, as you can only bring one turret to bear on the enemy. Good luck fighting enemy cruisers with two shots every 30 seconds, whilst their high rate of fire will rape you. Having flags, or 15 captains skills will not help. You can't polish a turd. A typical victory with two kills brings in 50K credits after repairs. Not worth it. If you want a premium for earning credits, get the Murmansk. The Mikasa as presented in this game is a very bad deal. AVOID

Strait .... the next Hot-Spot-esque victim of peoples stupidity
Akula971 replied to havaduck's topic in General Discussion
Battleships might not be cowards. Sometimes it is best to get out of range to repair properly. But I agree, there are legions, millions of morons out there. -
Was the installer, installing? trying to get a connection? Today is the day the update arrived, and it might be busy.

Here is a very novel idea. Instead of a free ship, that would be useless. Why not buy a premium that would earn you credits and XP? In that way you support the game you play. And if you are still in school, then offer, for a small fee, to wash your nieghbours cars, cut the grass, do odd jobs, or a Saturday job? In that way it will be more appreciated as you had to do something to get it. I'd recommend the Murmansk. Strong ship, Russian Ship!

I hit a low health, less than 10% HP Tenyu with 2 HE, and 2 AP............hardly a scratch on him. It still sucks BIG time!

My Captain has basic and advanced firing training, as well as Superintendent. With the consumable, I end up with three charges. I feel I can have fun with the Sims now, as I can fire 9.2Km slow torpedoes, and still get hits, help out around the bigger ships. Typically it will shot down down 2-4 planes per game, which is 2-4 MORE than before. When a CV player remarked on its AAA I knew it was no longer the pile of poop it was before. I'm not the best Sims player by a long chalk. But I can have fun in it, and that is why I play....to have fun.
-
How very polite of you to say so. However regardless of what information is shown. I know that it can and does shoot down planes quite well now, especially with the Defensive AA Fire II consumable. It is not an AAA cruiser, but it can defend itself, and in company of other ships, make a difference. "Dude"??? wtf you from california? who uses dude, apart from posers?
