I'm not done balancing. IMO, the first stem is to make a fun deck for each tier, then balance soft stats around that. XP is not an issue if plane kills count for xp (if only slightly). basic rules I want to follow: avoid having only 2 kinds of plane type as much as I can, and if a deck seems weak then it is balanced by having nice plane stats. And sorry captain but I won't give mid tier fighter US two TBs. Tier 6 still sees tier 4 ships mind you. Having 12 TB and 12 FT is very powerful. I was kind of doing compromises when it came to fighter/bomber balance. As you can see tier 7 IJN is not that strong bomber wise but it can go peer to peer to US fighters, possibly defeat them at lower tiers. If tier 6 USN CV would not be hard hitting enough for its strike deck then it can be changed to 1/2/1 but with not so strong TBs

So if even Pheonix AP can do it, what's the point of having a bigger caliber gun that has half the DPM of the US cruisers 152mm?
-
I'm actually planning on fixing that.. somehow. Something related to the DPM of a squad depending on its speed. it is max when the FT engages an enemy when it was flying at its highest speed. Lowest when the squad is engaged when being idle. Planes now when move don't start moving at their maximum speed but build up acceleration until they reach it. I want this to make CV skipper constantly being active and looking after their squads, not just through them somewhere and that's it!

The low detection on US torps make them better in DD vs DD engagement (besides the guns), USN DDs get more torp launchers (some of them on both sides) and get faster torps, or at least as fast, and they are harder to detect. They reload faster on USN DDs too. from tier 6 IJN DDs become less maneuverable (turning wise) so harder to react to a sudden USN torp spread. The only thing IJN DD have when fighting USN DD is actually worse. IJN DDs apparently are not better at taken out cruisers and BBs since those have more time to react to the torps. In high tiers all the bad points of USN DDs get canceled to be as good as the IJNs while the IJN DDs don't improve anything. The tier 5 soviet DD has better torps, guns, maneuverability than a tier 6 and 7 IJN DD and can still launch its torps from stealth. This is a joke and devs are clearly not being fair in their balancing.

I don't see the use of high pen AP.. American cruisers can still penetrate other cruisers citadel with their 152m around that tier (including Aoba's). With only 6 slow guns you are actually worse facing cruisers than the 152mm ships. Look at tier 6: Cleveland can citadel Aoba so easily and 2 salvo it (iChase video) but an Aoba can't reliably citadel a Cleveland (Cleveland is actually immune to 155mm guns of the Mogami.. tried in CBT at point blanck range). Is Furu's 203mm AP strong enough to penetrate BB citadel? I doubt since not even higher tier IJN cruisers can do it unless they are so close and shooting at battlecruisers.

edited: added carriers deck configurations for all tiers!

Question about the inverted torpedo fan - CV-haters please use one of the other threads
Takeda92 replied to Del_Mare's topic in General Discussion
I think you mean USN TBs auto aim. With manual aim you get parallel torps but with auto you get diverging torps. With IJN TBs you only have parallel torps! -
And why does Gearing should habe a compwnsating factor for her torps? She has the guns, she is not supposed to be a torp ship. There should be no compensation when it comes to torps, US torps should be inferior.. period! Just like it is with IJN guns. Devs are just playing favorites to cater to those NA whiners! To make it even worse Shimakze has the same spotting range as Gearing and has less range with her upgraded torps... at this level the IJN torps are not bettet, just diffetent. This should be balanced by either buffing the guns pn tier 9-10 or nerfing the US torps on tier 9-10

Funny thing is, if people kept free xp Mutsuki WG will never fix it because it generates money for them. Those guys don't care about a ship being unplayable, I doubt half of the dev team don't know what a ship is!
-
Cpt Thomas.. can you think of the consequences of what you are suggesting before suggesting them? Thank you!

That must have been a really hard patch to work on. Thank you for the really hard work devs

I was told DD are now terrible.....

I would love to see a winrate/xp gain chart of all ships though.. what few people say (from both camps) is not enough indicator! -
Oh I believe you, I know that the only responsible ones for this is that balancing department. I mean they thought of making manual drop a skill, so why they don't come up with this? I'm holding myself so much right now and taking a breath before I hit that post button and delete any insult word because I know there's a chance these stats could be a mistake. Let's see what Tuccy have to say about this.
-
Who cares what is a better idea, WG obviously doesn't! I can't imagine how much alpha testers whined about torps in alpha for us to get these values!
-
historical accuracy. secret soviet document were found and they said type 93 was actually terrible and overrated.. just propaganda!!! Soviet DDs will have the best guns and torps now.
-
That what I thought would be best too. I don't know if Atago is here to stay or just to be a premium until Takao becomes regular and then Atago is removed from the store, but the 2nd cruiser line has barely enough ships without Takao.
-
Wait.. the first line is that acquisition range? If so then it's biggest joke ever! I thought Shimakaze had 2km it turned out to be 2.1km.. while Gearing with 1 kts slower have 1.6. And Stock torpedoes for Mutsuki.. OMG IS THAT FOR REAL!!!!! 2km detection for only 6km range and 63kts, and 12.2 reaction time, the biggest in the game? are they serious? These are the worst torpedos in the line on the worst DD of the line... WG you [edited]... is that your idea of IJN have better torps!!! no wonder you hide the acquisition stats so people don't know what a bunch of liars you are!
-
Do you think this means we will never see Takao as a regular ship?
-
The xp and credit penalty for friendly rams are not that big anyway (sometimes I get a single digit penalty) and it probably should stay this way until devs implement a fair way to determine who was right and wrong. But so far, as long as they are not pushing you into the enemy torp or preventing you from turning away from the torps, friendly collisions are harmless!
-
Well historically they were worse elevation wise. It is something I only learned recently too. That's why Kagerou guns are not DB guns (making is even worse) but did those turrets turn slower than Fubuki's? I got the idea that there isn't information about turning speed difference between the two, so WG must used it as balancing stats! Maybe They should just introduce Yuugumo class and Kagerou can be a tier 8 in the second line? at least they will get DB guns that will turn as fast as Shimakaze's and Fubuki's guns! Nothing else is different!

What are your "keepers" (per tier/class) ?
Takeda92 replied to Elkerlyc's topic in General Discussion
It's hard for me to pick one. I would love to keep Tenryuu and Kuma. I had so much fun in Tenryuu. From CBT experience Mogami is also definitely a keeper too. I liked Aoba but that was long time ago. Myoukou? nope. I'm debating between between Isokaze and Minekaze.. I like the better guns on Isokaze but Minekaze is faster. Fubuki is possibly a keeper. She's probably the worst for money making since you can only lose money with it. Kongou is a no brainer because... it's Kongou. Fuso is also the best money maker regular ship you can have, in CBT it was such a beast almost being on the OP side. I enjoyed Zuihou too. I haven't played much after her so I don't know who's a better keeper, but I really want one CV as a keeper. -
In WoT they are treated as walls so why not here as well? a ship will simply stop if rammed a a boundary and you have to reverse to get out!
-
Hatsuharu suffers mainly because of the change of playstyle from the previous ships. Suddenly you are less maneuverable and less stealthy; getting closer to enemy is much more risky. Her armament improve over the previous ships her torps however not so much because you still have 6 of them that reloads more than a minute and good-but-not-fantastic speed. Kagerou is the other way around. She can be more stealthy that Fubuki and has better torps (although reload slower) but her guns are much to be desired since you get the same guns that turn slower, making this ship a one-purpose-only glass cannon that either work greatly or terribly.
-
Oh, so basically a scarier Tenryuu. Thanks XD
-
This is off-topic to what the OP wants but it still concerns the Iwaki. Can anyone tell me what this ship is? a link to a page or a quote about the project and the purpose of this ship?
