I've met 6s who haven't even heard of strafing or manual attacks, all they know are those same "click and forget" autodrops. Strafing tends to be the biggest "OMG WHAT THE HELL" for them, at least in my experience. I knew it's a thing, but this is a perfect example of how crap it is, took me just 2 games to get to it and in the next 3 that I've played I ran into the same problem two more times, just with more game time left so I actually could afford to wait. I played through Zuiho when they still had manual attacks, and on Bogue I just didn't care as most of the time I went AS anyway (and a good portion of my Bogue games were pre-manual-removal aswell). In my experience strafing was indeed the easiest one, followed by DBs (IJN ones, US DBs still have hopelessly bit target area lol). Torps took me quite a while, I started to get a hang of them just towards the end of Ryujo, and even now when I've finished Hiryu I screw them up every now and then. Can't even imagine how long it would take if I didn't have the chance to learn at 4 & 5... Also yeah, going as a tier 5 vs tier 6 CV is fun, he can strafe you while you can cry and do nothing about it
-
Exactly. Tier 6+ CVs have it, 4s and 5s don't. I mean, if I could have torpedoed the smoke, screwed it up and Leander survived & capped - fair enough, that's a legit win. But I couldn't. Exactly my point.
-
I still had a fighting chance. Sinking Bogue is not hard. For Cleveland - bait his def AA, and then go in with all squads at the same time to overwhelm his AA. I've won worse. I'm not going to deny that this probably would have still been a loss. But the way how they won - not even a chance to fight back. A bad comparison would be a PA DD vs 2 DDs, but the PA DD has all of his guns destoyed, only tops left. Not even a fighting chance for him
-
Pretty much But lets face it - people who actually are grinding through tier 4 and 5 CVs have no chance of dealing with anything in smoke, and in a "reset or lose" situation like this it just denies them even the chance to fight back. A 6+ CV would still have had the chance to win it if played more or less correctly, but 4s & 5s are denied it.
-
Not quite. Last second changes often are ignored if you give the command too late. What happens is the drop gets locked in (goes from green to yellow in a very simplistic explanation ) then planes fly over the drop zone, don't drop, "reset" and go for the drop again. Basically it's like a spiral. Since it's a manual drop the drop area keeps moving with the ship in question (this case - Leander), while with a manual attack you simply would drop in empty water whenever those panes finally feel like dropping. It's probably just a random bug, but I have no idea what triggers it

URSS warship Cruiser Level IV Svietlana or Svetlana?
wilkatis_LV replied to Toxoplasmosi's topic in Archive
This is similar to WoT map Malinovka. Actual village name near / at which the battle took place and after which vicinity the mat itself is modeled is called Malinova, without the k which is just a Russian addition which caught on mostly in the soviet era (even Russians themselves called it Malinova during WW2, altho for them according to their maps both names were like synonyms) -
Resetting caps (defending)
wilkatis_LV replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
I think for the first few patches you sometimes had to re-enable them, but haven't heard of that happening anymore Despite how buggy replays can be (well, if you use them on the same patch as they were played and don't try to jump ahead / back they work more or less ok) they are great help for situations where you are like "what the f*** that is simply not legit!!!!!". Turns out - you just missed some small detail like being spotted for 2...3 seconds and thus getting hit by someone who had guns in that direction. It's a really valuable chance to go back and re-check how did you do, what did you do, maybe what you should have done differently when your head is clear because you don't have to pay attention to who's where, what will you do, where to turn your guns, what are your cooldowns and so on -

I mean, I did it once and had them working ever since, also you can just have replays up and running with a help of a mod so you don't have to do anything manually ;) -
URSS warship Cruiser Level IV Svietlana or Svetlana?
wilkatis_LV replied to Toxoplasmosi's topic in Archive
This makes English speaking countries (a.k.a. all the people who communicate with us but don't know Russian) have a better chance to correctly pronounce the name. This is literally a non-issue, let WG focus on more important things. -
http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Flags If you go through the list there actually are some special flags that grant you some bonuses. Of course, they're not meant for us simple folk, no way we're getting something like that
-
Not the same game, not even the same developer. Just the publisher and style are shared. People really need to stop comparing these 2 like they both are the exact same with the only difference being that one has tanks and the other one has replaced them with ships

Resetting caps (defending)
wilkatis_LV replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
All ships gather points, you reach max speed at 2. More will disperse gained points, but won't increase the capping speed I'm not 100% sure on this but I think you need like 90%, maybe even 95% of the cap points to get the solo icon. Any less is "assisted" Umm, no http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Game_Modes Down at Domination / Standard Basically: Domination (and as far as I know Epicenter is counted under it) capping takes 60s solo or 40s with 2+ ships So you need 100% to cap. That means a ship (note that a ship refers to 1 ship each tick) will gain 1.67% per tick solo or 2.5% if there are multiple ships. Each time you hit the ship (bounces count too, with DDs I've noticed that near misses for some reason may reset you aswell - HE splash radius and AP underwater bounce maybe?) it resets the points that only that ship has acquired. Examples: Ship "A" in cap: A 1.67% A 3.33% A 5% A 6.67% A 8.33% A 10% *reset* A 0% A 1.67% Ship "A" enters cap 3 ticks (seconds) before ship "B", then "B" is reset after 3 ticks, then 2 ticks later "C" enters cap: A 1.67% A 3.33% A 5% *B enters* A 7.5% B 0% A 7.5% B 2.5% A 10% B 2.5% *B reset* A 10% B 0->2.5% A 12.5% B 2.5% *C enters* A 12.5% B 5% C 0% A 12.5% B 5% C 2.5% A 15% B 5% C 2.5% A 15% B 7.5% C 2.5% You surely get the picture. With Standard the idea is the same, just the times are 180s solo and 120s with 2+ ships, thus % per tick is 0.56% solo and 0.83% with 2+ ships Practical example: A BB and a DD enter a cap in Domination. DD is unspotted, BB is spotted. Enemies fire at BB and reset it, team still get the cap, just later than expected. Why? As each ship gets 1 tick, but BB gets reset all the time, effectively DD is capping at half speed (every 2nd tick counts). Thus instead of 40s they get the cap in 80s. DD gets Solo Cap ribbon, BB - despite being in cap for all 80s depending on whether he got the last tick or not gets respectively either the "assisted" ribbon or nothing for it. True story btw, tested multiple times is randoms while covering divisionmates from getting rushed down (albeit was much easier when everyone was using AP instead of HE) Now for the original question: Could be that those 2 ships are getting reset by your teammates more or less every tick? Also I'm not sure if you get the ribbon for just a couple of ticks worth of capping. Then again, if they have very few points acquired on them the difference in their capping may be barely noticeable. Or you just got "lucky" and game forgot to award you the ribbons. Or maybe the game went full on "screw you" mode, bugged out and for some reason they simply didn't get cap points. Do you have a replay by any chance? I do think it would be easier to explain this exact situation if I / we were able to check that exact moment. It's easier to notice things when you're not busy concentrating on everything in the game, also freecam helps to change your PoW -
Was curious about this one. Not going to start a dedicated thread for it alone tho (gif's 30 seconds long, you probably have to give it a moment to load in) Fiji can easily penetrate Amagis 270-ish mm barbette at point blank, and as you can see it's just normal (non-damaging) penetrations First hit disables the turret (happened pre-gif, then somewhere in the middle again as it was probably just repaired), then after continuous fire it gets saturated and eventually knocked out. No citadels from it. I've heard that you could score citadels like that in CBT, but I think by the time OBT came it already wasn't a thing

Hundreds of clans with random flags / logos, all of wich have to be approved otherwise we'd have fleets of swastikas and d**ks floating around. Yeah, probably actually can be that hard

Wasn't going to, but I'm pretty sure you mentioned 30-ish km Montana? Is there any source where we actually are given shell angles depending on the range and their speed vectors (either actual vector or horizontal & vertical from which to calculate the actual)? Or do we have to try and calculate approximate values from replays hoping that the visual representation of the tracer actually is correct? If we have those it would make it much easier to finally settle this than to just pointlessly argue, as we are clearly going nowhere. My point is - at those ranges the distance between stern / bow and citadel is too great for the shell coming in at a "non-flat" angle to reach it, also the speed dropoff would play a factor there, you seem to disagree with that. I'm reasonably sure that a flatter trajectory and a faster shell like the IJN tends to have at close ranges could still stand a chance. Oh, it wasn't obvious to you from me MULTIPLE TIMES pointing out to you how the tiers between those ships differ? Yes I will. Anyway, talking to you is clearly pointless. We've spammed multiple pages with arguments, most of whom you have dismissed with "muh be unicorn, muh no listen cuz muh stet be betters than your" attitude. One last time - feel free to fire your HE at my Conq, I even encourage you to do it. Will make my life easier as you fail to understand a rather simple way to deal with them

You don't need to be point f-ing blank How about you actually try it instead of just bs-ing that it won't happen? Shells coming in from that long range have far too high angle to get in through stern / bow, they would have to go through the deck, your own "picture snatched from google" should have explained that to you Will NC citadel Fuso more often than it will citadel Amagi? Pretty sure it will. But that doesn't mean anything, those 2 tiers have no matter on it, do they? And here you have the exactly opposite point - no way a lower tier ship will have less chances of citadeling a higher tier one?!?!?! Nooo, can't be!! Now take New Mexico and conclude that she can citadel Fuso easier than she can citadel Amagi, who would have thought?!?!?! So the only term that resonates as "close range to you" is point blank, huh? 8 to 12km hits with Yamato should be perfectly fine. Or if you don't want her because of the overmatch - Izumo or Amagi. I still think that may be possible, if, of course, you finally understand how "close" differs from "point blank" Actually there were people who said that I've said this like 100 times. If you fire HE he will heal it. if you fire AP his heal gets crippled. Since heal seems to be the main worry of people who try to deal with him - it's the obvious thing to do, a.k.a. reduce his ability to heal himself while you're killing him. Thus AP becomes the counter while HE is a "do it now and quickly or it literally won't matter" type of amo Since QE up on all of them I've preferred the sAP over HE. I don't need citadels on BBs when I can score 25...40k salvos on BBs, and also overpens on cruisers are drastically reduced... Personally I see it as a better AP round overall, but then again - just a personal preference. Also I don't think that many people have "stopped playing her" as it's more of a case that people simply don't own her yet. Most seem to be around Monarch right now, so we still have time till Christmas or New Year when I expect them to be played in masses. And well, then we'll see if potatoes really can just kill everything without having a clue what they do or will the ships stats tank and the complaining will start about how it's not that good, as I expect it will and before you say anything about that complaining - it will come, I mean, there are people complaining that the Saipan and Payfast are too weak Also that vanishing part - how is it boring? If you can keep your distance and maneuvering combination correctly you can get good mid range hits into enemy BB with them having to take chancy "now or never" shots at you Basically dictate the rules of the engagement, which is always an advantage in a 1-on-1 KM BBs have been out long enough, people have learned that you get high dmg rolls by just hitting them at the upper belt / superstructure. remember what happened when they were recently released? All the complaining about ridiculous armour, shatters on main belt, impenetrable citadels... took a while, but people learned how to work around it. I really see this as a version 2.0 of exactly that Exactly my point, most Conqs you meet will be either early suicides or long range derps. Well, 300k is a bit of an overstatement, but 150k sounds about right Well, isn't that the famous confirmation bias? You may play 10 games at 50% WR, but you'll feel like you lost more than you won as we simply tend to remember and "weigh" negative outcomes / memories more than positive ones

My first impressions of New Operation
wilkatis_LV replied to Butterdoll's topic in General Discussion
With no islands there carrier group would get hit heavily and probably decimated in the 1st attack wave. You literally would need 3 DDs to permasmoke CVs way up north. It's called learning. You have more than 1 chance to play it, so if you fail one just try again. Or ask for advice on forums. Also the mission tasks are rather clear. That's a personal preference issue not a game issue All of that sounds like either l2p issue or you simply playing a ship class that you normally don't play. Since you have 90% of your games in cruisers... I'll leave conclusions to you Haven't heard of that from anyone, so the issue is probably at your end. Mods? Run integrity check on the game or something like that? Check your internet? Can't help much more than that At least 7 games, and still... dude, cmon It really is quite good, I did enjoy it. A bit sad that they lowered the difficulty as far as they did, initially on PTS it was quite a hard nut to crack Pretty much the same conclusion. Tried it with a decently skilled Hiryu, still wasn't a fan of it. If your team is coordinated and can focus down the AA cruisers you do have a chance to hunt down DDs and BBs, but with randoms I'd stay away from CVs KGV and Scharn - I'd say those 2 are the best for dealing with CLs in the NE corner, you do want 1...2 of those in your team. Also you don't need to save the Aoba, she was added to make your job of dealing with CLs and spotting them easier For fun? Or just get a full team and roleplay with all 7 going IJN ships -
WG fix [edited]BB AP against DDs already
wilkatis_LV replied to ClappingLollies's topic in General Discussion
As I already said, there might be other explanations for things like that, and you can see how exactly that happened in a replay. Example: I've thought - I was unspotted for 30+seconds! How did he randomly hit me?!?! After checking the replay - I was spotted for a second or two by a DD who was turning around, didn't notice it. And a BB took a shot at me which took 13 seconds to fly to me. 28 seconds since I thought I was unspotted, just 12-ish actually. See? Explanations come from checking it, otherwise you can claim anything. Then again, there are situations like I pointed out in the video. I clearly reset the guy, I pointed out how my shells hit him and cap counter goes down, but at the same time defender ribbons never popped up. Again - tested for it as there was a possibility that someone else reset him right together with me, and got the answer that it's not the case, ribbons simply weren't awarded. I'm not saying you're lying, I'm just saying there might be other explanations. Without any replay to back it up and confirm that indeed it was 11 citadels in 1 salvo with less than 11 shells fired it's just your claim that it happened against mine that it probably didn't. -

Torps that allow you to hit less targets are supposed to be better how exactly? IJN CVs are great at dropping & taking out DDs, this would just remove that option completely. So - NO.
