    High tier cruiser gameplay

    This really depends on cruiser in question... So far I have progressed only US CAs co I'll talk about them. I found out that Pensacola is perfectly capable of carrying a game thanks to her extreme accuracy and maneuverability. but then it gets horrid in NY and Balti... Those were the two worst cruisers I had to deal with in the US line, every other is fun in a different way. Not as maneuverable as Pensa, they seemed to get citadeled from any angle and any range and the guns aren't any improvement from Pensa and they are facing higher HP pools and armor. Halfway in my Baltimore I was ready to give up on DM alltogether. Yes, there was one game where Balti showed me what she can do. 180 K damage multiple citadels tons of fires and glorious victory. That battle had only 2 BBs per side so go figure what is the fun ruiner.... BUT. When I got to Des Moines it has changed dramaticaly. Yes you still need to watch out for incoming BB fire, but you're no longer helpless. With DM RoF she is able to do massive amounts of fire and HE damage against enemy BB (especivally if you can team up with another DM, then you're a force equal to be afraid of) and when faced against anything else she shines too, pentrating CA's isn't a problem and maxed out AA provides outstanding cover. So yes, as a mainly cruiser player I feel like BBs are ruining the fun for being "untouchable" and I regret that there aren't more CV players in higher tiers, who would keep BBs at bay (and feed my AA )

    Independence vs Ryujo

    So today I went finally from Bogue to Independence expecting some furn with the 1/1/1 setup, boy how mistaken was I when I learned that Japaneese counterpart has an insane 3/1/1 setup! I mean what the hell? In order to try get air supierority I'd have to sacrifice my main source of damage (TB) and still wont have enough planes in the air to take out his?! What? Is there even a way to beat this? Or is Independence just another ship to freexp through? Come to think of it is there even any point in progressing in US CV line?

    Trying a shiú

    Hey I was just wondering, is there a way to try a premium ship for a battle or two (maybe in Coop?) before you buy it/ some kind of refund policy if you find out that you really don't like a ship? I am thinking about buying Warspite however I am not sure if she'd fit my style, so it would be nice to try her out.. Thanks

    Pensacola slot 2

    Hey I have currently rebrought Pensacola after reaching DM and I'm enjoying her even more than the DM (strange I know), but I am worndering which upgrade to fit in slot 2. It seems that fire control upgrade (-10 meters to dispersion) isn't that significant (10 meters at 15 kliks? you wont notice...) and the AA is made redundant by the low amount of CVs in random battles (yea I bought Pensa to play ranked only to find out they were mover a tier lower... Duh) and the others are simply inferior even to those two... Opininons?

    Pensacoola Dissatisfying ship

    Your main advantage in Pensacola is accuracy. Her dispersion at max range is only 140 meters so if you aim well you'll get reliable citadels into enemy cruisers who can't withstand the firepower of that magnitude. You really have to watch out for enemy ships and stay as angled as possible. If it is a 1 on 1 cruser fight go forth full steam ahead and use your superior guns to citdel them on the bottom of the sea, you can penetrate the magazines even if they are eploying the same strategy... and once they get close you simply can't miss the citadel... theese fight usually come to the last salvo that does 3-4 citadels right before they can retaliate... If there are more of them, turn around as soon as you can (between their salovs) and dance like a madman.,. Pensa is suprisingly agile and nimble to avoid most of the enemy shells wihle her 2 aft turrets can still dish out tons of damage... When it comes to BBs it'S alllways the same, evade like a madman, play with your speed do whatever you can to throw off their aim. I am consistently getting 5K salvos with AP against enemy BBs so you have a chance of withling them down... DDs can be a pain if they get really close, however your guns are so accurate that you should be able to take them down in one or two salvos (of course you have to anticipate that there is a DD and load HE...) Planes are really not a problem, since Pensacola boasts quite stong AA capabilities and if you see them coming you can turn acordingly a prep your defensive fire ability... All around... Stay angled, zigzag like a DD and never be afraid to trade you last few hitpoints for a full salvo you can get lucky (I got 2 citadels on a Colorado and took him with me).

    She is a wonderful ship... A citadel machine... If you're agile enough to avoid BB retaliation and don't show your broadside all the time she does wonders. Once I had an extremely lucky (basically a BB) salvo... 6 Citadels and one dead Cleveland... So no, I won't sell her.

    So I have noticed that a certain mod in Asalin's modpack allows players to see the whole tech tree (even the not avalible premium ships) and today low and behold there are all the german cruisers and russian destroyers with detailed stats plus a Bismarck, and US heavy T X cruiser Buffalo class and Imperator Nikolai I. Quite an amaizing sight to look at..
  9. Allright there must be an end to this. 9.5 out of 10 games I expirience in my Baltimore consists of 8 BBs per team and it is pure madness. There are simply no DDs (maybe one per battle) or CVs that will counter them, it is a super fun expirience getting citadeled from all sides even before I am able to get in range. How long will it take to implement a limit to them? In theese kind of battles I am reduced to firing HE and hoping for fire (I speced into pyromania for this even) and while it sometimes work, most of the time there are simply two big BB balls that shoot at each other from 20 km distance and if you get caught in that, you have 5 seconds of life... The 0.5 of games where there are actually a majority of cruisers are insanely fun (they are probably the reason I haven't given up on getting to DM completely), because Balti shines in theese kind of engagemnets, bouncing AP shells left and right, but sure enough you can't bounce a BB shell (it would be stupid). Anyway... Is there a chance that we might get a limiter on BBs per battle? maybe at 3 or 4? I have tried to team up with a friend to create a hunter pack of cruisers and we hit the same problem, there is one big ball and two targets that can be citadeled even while directly facing them (stern of bow) simply pose no threat. This may change at T10 due to DM amazing RoF (thus more fires, fear factor etc.) but right now the high tier battles are a pain. No DDs no CVs and 3 to four cruisers per side, the rest are BBs... Pure hell.

    Pensacola

    Pensacola is in my opinion (currently at Baltimore) the most fun ship in US cruiser line followed closely by St. Louis and (suprisingly) the Albany. When I started with Pensacola, I too was a bit dissapointed, being used to the super fast reloading (and in CBT super precise) Cleveland I loaded HE and thought hey lets do it and that is a no no. Load AP, get your map awerness in order and engage enemy cruisers at maximum range. If you learn how to aim properly you'll get as many citadels as if you were driving a BB. For her tier those 8 inch guns pack a massive punch and their penetration is superb. And with the amount of guns Pensacola carries, she is (with HE of course) an able DD hunter, and he AA covering abilities are second to none. One especially interresting thing I found out, should you happen to find yourself close to enemy BB, not only are your guns capable of penetrating her armor, but she will actually overpenetrate (!) you. So if you get really close you are able to get away with broadside or three, and thus you're able to cause some serious havoc.
  11. This Magnificent Beast was on both teams and since it is so rare it was focused down in a matter of minutes, so I can't talk about her power level, still she looks awesome. Oh an btw. there is a bug with czech localization, missing ň.

    Curse voice works well and voice chat is usefull, you don't have to use it, if you don't want to hear all the screaming which might come... The only thing I regret is that the bonus code is for new accounts only, since I allready own an acc on both, curse and WoWs..

    They didn't counter everything. One of the most important jobs concerning Baltimore/NY/DM is their AA screening. Getting a clear sky reward isn't a problem when there are enough planes in the air, plus the AA consumable and fighter made attacking an US cruiser a nighmare for CVs... Interrestingly I think that if WG introduced high tier premium CV (Enterprise maybe?) that may offset the numbers and make the expirience better, since there is a limit on CVs...

    I have posted the percentages a page before, unfortunately I can't proove it, since I take sceenshots only rarely, but I use a spreadsheet to keep track of my battles... I think that the CV MM change made the main difference, not the DD nerfs, since I can still see a DD or two in battles, but CV is really rare (yea I'm super happy to invest in Baltimore's AA ) By removig CVs out of the picture, the value of cruisers (especially USN) plumits. There is no need for AA screen, so you go heavy (just like IRL - before CVs were introduced Battleships were the main force of every fleet). I took out my Bogue today first time after the MM change and it was bad... When I take the full air setup I can deal with enemy CV but I'll do no damage and vice versa if I take the strike loadout I am constantly harrased by enemy fighters, but at least can sink a ship or two... That may change tier from tier, but it makes the CV expirience much worse - hence the lower nuber of them - more BBs, vicious cycle..

    This only serves to make the problem worse Few days ago I had one amaizing game (right after specing into pyromania) where I was able to output 150 K damage mainly through fires and by some miracle I wasn't focused imidietly.. But that is one game in many... What is suprising is that the winrate isn't that bad (about 53%), but I feel like I have no influence on the outcome of the game... Here is the proof of that one awesome game...

    I rarely see a lone DD in T9 matches, usualy Kageros and Shimikazes, I have yet to see a Gearing... If DDs were nerfed to ground and CV expirience was made worse by guaranteeing an oponent, there is now not much left to wonder why BBs are dominant...

    Mostly it is 6 on 6 /7 on 7 BBs about 40% of games, 8 on 8 make another 35% 5 on 5 about 15% and 4 and less are the remaining 10% of games..

    Thanks for the compliment To reason why I don't queue with a DD or CV, it's simple I don't have such high tier ships... with CVs I'm at Bogue and simply don't enjoy it that much and with DDs I'm grinding Mahan, and i'm about halfway through, but the main reason is that I want Des Moines... Ever since CBT I wanted to try that ship out and this final stretch is probably the worst expirience... At lower tiers the oversaturation is not that bad and guns on CA re firing faster, which means higher chance for fire, thus a way to deal with BBs and whatmore they have lower hp pool, (Take a St. Louis man that thing is a beast and I love it )

    Check out Baltimore and Cruise buff idea topics (and tirpitz plague in general discussion) there it is allready discussed and we pretty much came into conclusion that there should be a limit for BBs about 3 to 4 per team...

    Okay after my first game of today I have to reevaluate. I finally had a game where there were only 3 BBs per side and the majority of the battle was done by cruisers... And here is where Baltimore shines. It shrugs off AP even at quite shallow angles and deals with HE and fires well. I found out that its turrets are quite prone to being damaged/destroyed, but when you can get closer the dispersion improves immensly and finally I felt like I was making a difference (ending a game with 10 citadels dont know how many hits and about 80 K damage) even with one of my turrets destroyed. As Sander93 said (and me too many times, just look up Tirpitz plague in general discussion) high tier battles would be fun, if US Cruisers had a way to deal with BBs with relative ease. I think that once you get to Des Moines, things change rapidly, because your ROF enables you to shred the BB hp quite well, but in T9 BBs are practically untouchable. Conclusion: This ship will bring you joy. IF you are standing against other cruisers. There she shines. (the armour WoW.. I have never seen so many bounces). But getting this kind of game is hard, since most of them are composed from 16 BBs one cruiser and one DD... Right now I am simply sad, because she is one hell of a ship. I didn't see that before and I am sorry. Her only problem is the amount of BBs. WG limit them same as CVs, please...

    The Grind is long and full of terrors... I am currently 100K into the grind with Baltimore and I must say it is the most underwhelming expirience I've ever had in WoWs. Even Farragut was tolerable once I figured how to play it... Baltimore's dispersion is awful, same as it's penetration... Once I was able to upgrade to the B hull its maneuverability got better (hey you can finally dodge torps!) and AA is nice... But man... I have had battles where I got over 100 hits and in the end I did something like 25K damage, simply because most of the time AP shells just dont penetrate. (And yes I was engaging enemy cruisers). The second most hideous thing are battleships. They are fricking everywhere. In most battles you can see about 14 to 16 of them, which makes cruisers practically unplayable. Oh how I wish I had started with DDs earlier, I see Kageros and Bensons having a hayday, but there is usually only one per team per battle, followed by one cruiser and 8 BBs... And since you're in a gunboat you can't even scratch them. I see everywhere BB captains crying about fire, but with the awful dispesrion Batli has, I really am able to lit maybe one fire per fight. And of course it is nice to point your bow on the enemy BB only to get citadeled anyway,... Man I am really looking foward to DM, the RoF might actually change the invincibility of BBs... But right now? Baltimore is the worst.
