    The BB oversaturation

the only redeeming thing is that I'm getting my dreadnought awards in almost any battle if I survive with my Hindenburg...

    The BB oversaturation

Yes the idea is to have MANY cruisers around so the probability of getting shot is lower - forming a wolfpack... try that with 2 cruisers per side.. You can't gank up on BBs, they gank up on you and since they have basically the range to hit you even before you can hit them the conclusion is clear... To the concealment.. I run all my high tier ccruisers with maxed out concealment and while it helps, one DD is enough to screw you, since even maxed out DM will be detected at 10.6 kliks... and once you're seen and now when there's spotting damage, the BBs will eat you once more...

    The BB oversaturation

Sure I get theese kind of games too once in a while, but most of the time it is completely different, plus a smoke is a big factor... Today I had a game with 5 BBs per side, 3 cruisers per side and the rest of them were DDs... After first 4 minutes there were 6 dead ships, try to guess to which class all of them belonged...

    The BB oversaturation

Well getting artificial caps on everything would solve the problem but not the cause... It is better to give player insentive to play a certain class rather to force them via caps... The main problem right now is that BBs are pretty much untouchable by cruisers, unless you have torpedoes (germans have to suicide zao is laughing) or are stealthy enough (zao once again) and maybe a division of Des Moineses can bring a BB down with their combined DPM, but other than that I don't know. You may say that it is supposed to be that way, a lone cruiser should die to a BB and yes I agre but the problem is, that there are not enough cruisers in the battle, so they can' form a wolfpack... and since BBs love to snipe at max range they can't get close enough to be effective... Once again I refer to the DM, try to aim at 18 kliks (still the 1st one in line) with 13 sec shell flight time.. On the other hand cruisers get extremely punished by BBs. Armor angling doesn't matter, overpens don't happen and manueverability is ok ish at long ranges... Even to kill a DD a cruiser usually needs 3-4 salvos (talking about tX now), while a cruiser can get deleted in one... Yes, Again! And again and again, until high tier cruisers are playable. Especially the USN ones... They are having a horrible time, because their main role - AA protection is not needed. The german BBs have crazy AA raitings and seeing a CV ingame is a miracle of itself... Oh I miss those days where there were 3 BBs per side and CVs didn't have to have a mirroring MM... My Des Moines ate planes like a boss... Now I have it respeced for full concealment to survive...

    The BB oversaturation

Yea I remember the tirpitz plague...
  6. Bullying BBs No this was a good game, but mostly, you have to deal with the danger that you might get one shotted any time... As (US) cruisers have the lowest damage potential (their only chance to do massive damage as big as torpedo salvo or BB citadel is detonation) you have to use cover, minimise the nuber of guns that are pointing at you and provide more juicy (closer) targets than you. Seems to work

Where are the complaints from cruisers?

Cruisers... Cruisers.... For me they are a love affair. Right now I have Des Moines, Hindenburg and grinding to Moskva. My winrate isn't something amaizing, but I know why (I'm too aggresive) so I thought I might sharemy opinions. Cruiser gameplay is the most varried one, in the game, save maybe for high-ish US DDs (I loved Mayhan in ranked games - the artillery is powerfull enough to duke it out with other DDs at the start of the match and after they're dead you can either transition to IJN or russian style of play, depending on how much hp you have left... Anyway back to cruisers). I loved the start of the US line (with the exeption of T2). St. Louis is a real treat. Strangley enough I didn't like Cleveland, but I fell in love with Pensacola. I was struggling with this ship so long it felt like a torture, but after many many battles (used to the HE spam) I loaded AP, changed from AA support build to full gunmode and boy did she start to perform. Her guns are extremely accurate even at long ranges and her plunging fire has enough punch to citadel a BB (once I got a double citadel on a Colorado a glorious moment) and she is agile enough to dodge not only the enemy torps, but shells aswell. That is why her concealment is so bad, you have to rely on your light cruiser type body to get you out of a pinch. You can bounce even 203mm shells if you angle well enough, but it's allways risky. Furthermore she excells at DD hunting because her guns (if you aim well) are able to delete a D in two salvos. So I thought hey, if Pensacola was so much fun it would be ok up the line? Boy was I wrong... The battles spent in NY a Baltimore were some of the worst ones I have ever had in WoWs. It seemed that Pensacola's main advantage (BIG GUNS) was mitigated by larger hp pools, better armor and generally more passive style of play. I hate looking back to theese times... Now we get to the pinacle, the Des Moines. I am torn apart with this ship... Whenever I see another cruises or a DD in her I (figurativly) scream with glee, as I'm sure I'll be able to deal with him, but the second a BB even farts my way I feel as helpless as a rubber duck. When you have division of 2 or more DM, you can get by, because your combined RoF is really scary and can keep a BB lit up, but when you're in a 1v1 with a BB you can grab your ankles and kiss your a** goodbye. Your armor suddenly isn't working, you can't turn around, because you'll get one shotted from broadside, you can't back away fast enough, so all you can do is close the range a pray that a BB misses point blank shot and you can outrun her turrets... By the way I think I have read or heard somewhere the WG are going to change the normalization of shells of all ships on the same tier to be the same. If that is true, that means US cruisers get ANOTHER nerf, since the had the highest value. Do they really need kicking while they're down? Now for ze germans. To be quite frank I freexped my way from T7 to T9, mainly because of how pitiful Roon's dispersion was (how can Pensa be so accurate and roon can't hit a barn from inside?) anyway since most of my expirience is in Hindenburg, I'll stick to it. Hnenburg is an immensely fun ship. First of all I love 4 turrets (when you loose a turret in DM, which is quite common, you are really screwed) and she handles simmilary to DM (german AP says hi) with one notable strength - torpedos. No longer are you a floating sausage for that one last BB that remains, no, now THEY have to run. Yes they have short range but they are there when you need them. Overall I feel like Hindenburg is the best all around ship. For the russians. Since I am only at Kirov I can't really compare the high tier expirience, but from what I've seen, Moskva seems like a scaled up Pensacola with more HP - she has the biggest guns ever put on a cruiser (on paper, hah) and from fighting her I have learned, not so strong armor and is spotted from far ranges (see the similarities?) As for the IJN cruisers, I have never felt a desire to try them. Something about them just makes me feel uneasy... I don't know what. Maybe it's that I don't like the HE spam (looking at Zao), maybe I like to think I put a bit more effort or skill into my shots when I load AP as a primary type of shell, I really don't know. But I will grind them once,,,, Summary: I love the US cruisers, but I really feel that they are in a weaker state right now, since we are missing more CVs ingame. Their importance was much higher in ranked battles, where there were CVs practically in every battle, but in normal, there are simply too many BBs for high tier USN cruisers, which have less ways of countering them (a division of Des Moineses is the only think that comes to my mind) than other nations. The german cruisers are excellent fun, mainly because of their ability to really deal with any enemy they encounter (HEY anyone noticed that they have almost as good, if no better, AA as US? And torpedos? And more guns (albeit with slower RoF..)). The IJN... Not much to say here, but seeing them I'm never happy, they sit really low in the water, have crazy fire chance and torps and stealth... It's seems they are stacked like mad, but somehow someway I can barely deal with them (hey at least they are not as crazy as IJN CVs versus US CVs... THAT POOP IS CRAZY). The Russians - from what I've seen they look like a lot of HE spamming up to t9 and Moskva seems like a lot of fun. Cruisers are the most varied class you can play, but they punish every mistake so heavily that the learning curve is steeper than a mountain and the payoff is rather weaksauce (yeah I citadeleted another cruisers, oh wait it did "only" 5K I need 10 more of theese), vs the satisfaction of a lucky BB salvo of the perfect torpedo launch or the glorious air strike. It's the price you pay for being able to counter all of theese (save a BB salvo when you're in an US cruiser). Sorry for the wall of text, and any grammar mistakes you may find, but I got carried away.

Patch 0.5.10 and German BBs Incoming

Well Albany is dead now completely.. :/ She can stand up to T2 ships, with AP but, being the lowest tier in every game... Shame Edit: Plus they are nerfing all of the high tier US cruisers... They used to have the best AP normalization, now it's even... Bloody hell with the lack of CVs they're in a tight spot as it is...

    WG roadshow accounts

So... I want to complain. A lot. About those WG roadshow accounts that get into the TX games. Here's why: Last few games I ended up on the recieving end of the rng hammer that is the matchmaker and got one or two of those accounts in my battles (sometimes on my team sometimes on the other) and yes while they may be unskillled and easy kills that is not my concern, since they might end up on both teams. In my last battle a "friendly" Montana piloted by one of those accounts decided that it would be a great idea to test her guns on his teamates, especially me... So I get fired upon ( with HE, is anybody suprised? ) Got set on fire at one spot and disabled engine... so what can I do, I press the damage control and ask in chat not to be shot upon by friendlies... As soon as the Montana is reloaded here comes the second salvo... 3 fires... YAY... And with the damage control on cooldown guess who won't be much use in this battle due to low hp? Yup that's right.... With the added benefit of not getting enough credits to break even... You may say that there is a compensation, and while there is, 25K credits seems more like adding insult to injury... But I could get over that quite easily, if it had been a normal account, since he turned pink and got reported by most of our team. The main issue is, that IT DOESN'T MATTER! There are 0 ramifikations to theese accounts, because they are at some convention and rotating people in and out and that douchebag who did this will never feel any of that punishment! What would I propose as a solution? Well there are more ways... First is to make a WG account pay double/tripple compensations for damage to allies (I doubt that it would be exploitable, since you'll need a ton of luck to get into the same battle as your friend on the same team etc.) Second idea that comes to mind is put them in lower tiers, where they can't do as much damage, because the repair and rearming costs are lower. Post battle results if anyone's interrested... Note that Montana... Edit: Spelling mistakes

    The Reality of Tier 10

I too have Des Moines and while I have to agree that getting citadeled by every shot BB makes is not fun (ME YAMATO UR ANGLE NO MATTER!) I really don't have many problems with DDs. Your most importatnt help (currently) is situational awerness skil. I have my DM equoped in such a way that my detection is 12 K, so once it pops up and I can't see anything close I know that there is a sneaky DD in range. Then it's simply a matter of expecting the torps, and not staying on the same course for too long. Slow down, shift your rudder and use the the captain skill to home in on the DD. Once it makes one mistake it is dead. Sure, sometimes you can't do those things (3 or more DDs teaming up on you), or the enemy DD is just keeping you lit up for the BBs (that sucks most) but pure CA on DD action I have no trouble.
  15. So, any more info on it? Anyone? I noticed it ingame today...

USN Pensacola - how to play it?

Love the phrasing And sure enough, it is true, Pensacola is more maneuverable than it might seem and has really sleek profile when comparng her to higher tier US cruisers.

USN Pensacola - how to play it?

Pensacola, once again I'm coming to her defence. She is a hard ship to play, but most rewarding when you get it right. In fact she is the one US cruiser I bought after reaching Des Moines, because I felt like there was more fun in her than any other cruiser (save maybe St. Louis and Albany). The way to play Pensacola is to constantly look at map and look for isolated targets, which are NOT Battleships. Whenever you are dealing with cruisers, load AP, her guns penetrate even at high angles and their citadel potential is awesome. Since there is a distinct lack of CVs I opted to get the gun fire modificaion which increases her accuracy even more, and you can get "laser like" shots even at extreme range. The second most important thing in Pensacola is learning how to aim. It might sound rough, but most people suck at aiming, because Pensacola's predecessors require only pointing guns in the vague direction of enemy and firing, if you miss it's no big deal, you have another salvo in 6 seconds or so, but in her, if you miss you're in trouble. From the 10 shells you fire 6 hits are a must, 8 should be a standard, if you're aiming at cruisers and BBs. Ok so now how to deal with each ship you may encounter. BBs. Avoid them if you can. If you can't, look at what tier that BB is, if it's lower or you can get plunging fire (DANGER, explained later) stick with AP. There are Colorados which citadel said Hi to my shells on more than one occasion, if closer load HE and ALLWAYS wiggle. Staying at exreme angles helps as well, but be careful not to sail too close, wait for a BB salvo, then turn around and continue to wiggle and wiggle and wiggle. Now to the danger. I have bounced BB shells in Pensacola. Don't ask me how, but it happened, however the most dangerous thing a BB can do to you (aside from you showing her broadside, which is your fault) is plunging fire. Any hit from above is a citadel. Doesn't matter where the shell hits, it will penetrate deep. Cruisers. Hunt those buggers down. Keep your angle and you can laugh at the enemy because they will not expect bounces from you (especially german cruisers are yummy) and BE PATIENT. It is no good to blow a salvo on an enemy who is turning away, look for broadsides and exploit them to the max. If you know where and how to aim you can get mutliple citadels in one salvo (usually 2) and after loosing 11K hp any cruiser would think twice about engaging you again. DDs. Anticipation is the key here. You can't reload your guns as fast as you want to, so load HE in advance. Then you have to learn to lead well. Don't zoom all the way in, use the mousewheel to get a bit further, since the DDs are so fast you might not see what he is doing, when you aim. Pensacola's guns are extremely accurate at closer ranges and she can (assuming that you are at angle where you can fire all your guns) sink a DD in 1 - 2 salvos or 3 salvos when using only foward guns. Pensacola is also suprisingly maneuverable and she dodges torpedoes like a boss. CVs. This is basic... Use AA consumable when there are TB in range and DON'T FORGET to set TB as main priority for AA, lastly turn like hell into them even if that means you have to expose your broadside (you're taking a chance with the enemy who is shooting at you versus a certanity of a torpedo hit). Lastly her secondaries are ok as well, especially if you take the captain skills that buff them (as well as AA), so if you are in trouble they might save you bum. Overall I am in love with this ship. She packs enough punch to be a threat to every ship she might encounter unlike NY or Baltimore who have to deal with much larger healthpools than Pensacola and their guns are not much of an improvement. Edit: Spelling mistakes

  24. Watch the video first! While I disagree about some statements (mainly salvo spread RNG - take HMS Hood for example as one shell was able to detonate a magazine - IRL RNG) I do agree that the US cruiser line is a pain without CVs - your main focus (AA) is simply not there and BBs feel untouchable (save the Des Moines which can burn them down). I have to agree that playing CV is a frustrating expirience, partly due to the RNG of scout planes but mainly due to changes that were made to the MM. Taking out independence in her 1/1/1 or strike is a suicide since the IJN counterpart has 3 (!) fighter squadrons AND a DB AND a TB and taking her out with air sup. prevents practically any damage.. In regards to AA... I am not sure but on my Pensacola I noticed that most of my AA guns tend to fire only from broadside so please correct me if it's just a visual thing, but is it possible that the angle of your ship matters? DD hunting could use some improvements as well (Chase suggests contol over the scout plane) and it is true that in higher tiers DD hunting consists mainly from looking at spotted sign and trying to slowly zero in on where that DD might be. I miss CVs in the game. They kept BBs in check, gave US cruisers much needed purpose and balanced out the concealment of DDs... Unfortunately I really can see why there are so few players willing to play them since I don't want to touch my independence with a long stick, since every game felt like I was unable to do anything. (Although that might have something to do with my CV skills I admit...) Thoughts?
