I really have high hopes towards the CV overhaul, but considering the preceeding changes I know I should not have. The system of issuing commands to planes is simply put bad. No control grouping, no right click to move ( oi 30 years of RTS says HI, we know ho to make control good). the icons can't be accesed at glance yes, but the planes do have an under attack icon I believe - the red sort of signal running through them. The most annoying part is that the UI sometimes simply decides not to work, or do something else. I encounter a bug, where I hold down my alt key, press the mouse key to execute manual drop and nothing happens. My planes just fly marily over the target and then start spinning over it... Or my UI selects my CV when I know I didn't do it myself. To the barrage - it is a skill vs skill battle. Can you lock the enemys fighters down with yours? Can you split your squads so he wastes his ammo? Or can you nail that decisive hit.

The only time the AA might seem a bit too powerfull is when you are bottom tier in your CV (especially in Lexington/T8 IJN counterpart). In lower tiers the AA is propotional to your planes reserve. And how to deal with AS setups was excellently summarised in the post above. You can be a bit careless, however it is perfectly possible to run out of planes even in Midway. It doesn't seem like it but most strikes will cost you 2-3 planes from each squadron and if you let anything fly near DM/Minotaur or the enemy CV gets a good strife on you, suddenly you can be 20 planes down in seconds.

So... CVs in Cyclone supposed to be blind or aim on Minimap?
Horin728 replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
Tell that to Des Moines... The only thing a DM can do in a cyclone, where there are BBs nearby is pop radar and try to whittle them down for the 30 seconds it has, because if you get spotted by a BB at 8 kliks (and the BB isn't almost dead beforehand). you are finished. Also if the BB player isn't a complete potato and his situational averness goes off, while in cyclone and no targets in sight, he must know that there is a DD in 8 kliks and starts maneuvering. Much analysis, such insight. wow I had a game in Midway, where there was full AA Des Moines (divisioned with the enemy CV) and cyclone came... Boy that was a pain. I think that the engine doesn't differentiate between your ship and planes when it comes to CV spotting, so icreasing the range of plane spotting might result in your CV being able to out detect others? I might be wrong on that... -
Well imagine that Essex player being in a Lexington and matched into TX match, where his planes melt even before they get one bomb off. You got shafted by MM he got too. I got too. It happens, deal with it

Horin728 replied to wilkatis_LV's topic in General Discussion
Yup. ships appear as they should (most of the time) but loosing whole squads of fighters, because they can't "see" the enemy fighters right on top of them... Well that is not nice. Lets hope for the CV rework to fix this also... -
Guys I remember the days of CBT where there was no mirror CV MM. And it was glorious. Yes I have played mainly the USN cruisers, but man was that fun, when I encountered a a CV. I was even specced into full AA. And I noticed something. There was less camping. Today, ALL the matches in TX have 5 BBs per side. And that is the real problem. Usually I can scrape by in my DM/Hinde, but I grow super tired of getting randomly citadeled from 21K while bow on. Yesterday I had my first game with only 3 BBs per side in months and boy was it fun. The armor worked, my shells penetrated, I hunted DDs like a madman and was enjoying myself immensely. CVs limit the BB population, allready that is a good thing. And having too much influence? Well yes, CVs did change the warfare significantly, but my old point still stands: IF YOU THINK CVS ARE OP, PLAY ONE Be the guy who decides games. And don't get rewarded at all for it. I feel like there must have been a change in TX economy in the minipatch we had, because WTF Wargaming, how am I not making profit http://imgur.com/a/jFufO

The UI. It is so buggy and unresponsive. Sometimes when I click too quickly my CV gets selected instead of the squadron I clicked, the planes behave semi randomly (especially USN dive bombers - sometimes they drop immidieatly after setting the drop, sometimes they take 2-3 seconds, sometimes even 5). The AA. Main problem with the AA is that most BBs today are german. And what does every german BB take? BFT and AFT. Which means that they are getting a free AA protection with their point and click secondary builds. Not counting the fact, that you can loose half the squadron to an invisible Minotaur, before your derp planes decide to follow your orders and come back. To me there was a nation that allready fufilled the role of AA swatters and that was the US, especially the cruisers, which was fine. Now the only nation that is a good target are the Japaneese. The AA consumable and double the fighter airplanes doesn't help too. Try to clean them up with your fighters and you are just begging the enemy CV to come with his fighters and lock you down in the most intense AA. The loadouts. Oh how I wish Midway got her old loadout back. The immense frustration of the USN dive bombers that decide to drop all on the edge of the manual circle just to say f you for sending us into the AA. The rage when your only TB squadron gets half nuked even before they even get the torps off. The stupidity that the IJN can lock all your fighters and their bombers are faster than your fighters. The difference between arming times, I could go on. Lastly the mirror MM. I remember when I had a role in Des Moines. That role was to protect my BBs, when we got unlucky and didn't have a CV on our team. Those were the times (in CBT) where the clear sky achievement came often. Nowdays? I haven't speced for full AA in a really long time, since the only viable build is full stealth thanks to the 5 BBs per side in every single effing match bullcrap. Yet I still take them out sometimes.

Everything under 203 mm. Since 203 you allready have the penetration to penetrate BB non-belt armor and the 1.3 you gain won't make you penetrate the belt armor
-
Allright everyone is up and running around like a headless chicken due to RPF, but what I am horrified by is the massive vigilance buff. Basically if you have hydro, vigilance now apllies to it too. Good luck torping those underplayed german BBs. I am seriously thinking about going puer gunboat stealthfire DD style with HEAP, which seems the last effective counter.

So French navy is coming with 2 unspecified branches, RU DDs are getting a rework and a sub branch. More special commanders/upgrades, probably via the campaign system. New undisclosed type of armament (my speculation mines?) More PvE, probably with campaigns, with premade teams possible. Clan support with bonuses for them. New sound engine, with more settings and user modifications. New lightning, explosions and AA. Depot, training rooms. AND NO BLOODY INFO ABOUT THE CV REWORK!

Maybe put a limit on amount on BBs in a match WG?
Horin728 replied to CleverViking's topic in General Discussion
I think that there might be a surge of Russian cruisers - with the HEAP skill they can start penning BB armor and get 4-5K HE salvos with their 180mm guns -
How to teach a CV player what to use (includes actual experience and poll!)
Horin728 replied to Fritzblitzer's topic in General Discussion
I have used the balaced setups in the Indi/Ranger/Lexi. Since the enemy usually was an IJN CV with the 2/2/2 setup I found that I really didn't have much trouble getting rid of the enemy planes (strifing is an awesome tool when used right) while retaining the most important part of CV - the Dot damage. Since I allways send my torpedo bombers in 1st (and fly the flooding flag) there is a good chance of getting flooding. Then I hold my DB. If the dot sticks I find another target to bomb or if I know that the DMC is on CD - either used on my flood or used before for some other reason, I'll go in. This leaves the target either suffering from flooding or fires. EDIT: If I could have been in a division with another CV then specialization would matter. One of us in AS, one of us in strike... Yea that would be fun.. Or going balls to the walls full strike, but since that is not an option and since you never know when you might really need your fighters to save your sorry bum, I can't sac them for a DB squad... For a TB squad I might. -

First things first you're. Learn the bloody difference. Second: If you had actually paid any attention at all to my stats you would notice that overwhelming majority of my matches are in the USN cruisers and they are (generaly agreed upon) in a bad state (by the way if you consider having 58% winrate in Pensacola as being subpar, then I really have no more to say to you). To the CVs: Yes I have played a lot of strategy games, including StarCraft and SC2 on quite good level (Platimun) and while the expirience does help, the UI and plane behaviour is such a hinderance that you don't even try it out. Low tier CVs have very limited supply of planes and 0 mobility - try out the Langley, if you are so good, the cost should be no bother to you and it is/was on sale so perfect opportunity, The risks you take in a CV are of different nature - you risk your planes and damage potential. While a BB can fire salvo every 30-ish seconds (and that salvo has a potential up to about 130K damage), let us take a look at the time a CV needs to execute the strike: First servicing time, assuming your squad has not been destroyed in previous raid, is in the neigborhood of 30 seconds + 10 to take off + 40-50 to get to the target 5-15 seconds to execute depedning on targets maneuvering then 40-50 to get back and another 10 seconds to land. Do you see the difference? Then we go to the survival aspect of the CV. Basically once are you spotted, you are dead. Especially in the low tier CVs. You play a gamble every game. Will the team push through and break the flank? Or will it hold and I can move closer and be more useful. If you miscalculate, you are dead. Frankly if you are having such a problem with CVs get in the line that is supposted to counter them - the USN cruisers. IF you play IJN ships which all have subpar AA you can't be suprised that CVs target you, since you are one of the last viable targets in the game. Or you might try them out. Pick up the Langley or the IJN counterpart. Learn the difficulties CVs face,. Learn the grind of T8 CVs in TX matches, where you will not get a single plane through to the enemy, no matter which class or nation. IF they are so OP, PROVE IT! -

So I took the time and looked up the amount of games you have played in CVs, so you can deliver such accurate analysis and unsuprisingly it was... Drumroll please... Zero. Nada. Not a single one. Much analysis, very accurate, wow. I have said this in other topics too, but if you are so sure that CVs are "retardetly OP" PLAY ONE. If they are so OP it should be easy to roflstomp the noobs, eh? If you actually have done that you'd notice that this is not the case. This is not your BB where you can go hur dur me big gun overmatch. Getting a good manual drop actually requires quite a lot of skill. -
Concerning TX cruisers are the bane of CVs - Des Moines, Minotaur and (sometimes) Hindenburg all create large no fly zones. And that is how it should be (well maybe only the USN should do that since that was their identity, but oh well).
-
I just with Midway had it's strike setup back to where it was...
-
Basically it comes down to this: If you think CVs have too much power - then BLOODY PLAY ONE. Be the one with all the might and glory and gazilions of damage with no lost planes, getting double kraken every game. If you really think they are that OP, they should make tons of money and xp and produce so much enjoyment for the player who is in control of them, right?
-
CVs counter BBs. We need that
-
This kind of thing can only happen at low tiers - tier 4/5 matches only, since starting in T5/6 the AA gets massive improvement and CV can be countered quite easily by JUST NOT BEING ALONE. If you are a DD, you know a CV will send fighters to spot you, when you get to the cap 1st. Use an allied cruiser to help you swat those planes, or use unconvetnional tactitcs - circle around the point until you can see the enemy DD capping it and then it won't matter it the CV sends his planes to spot you. Plus in the low tiers, every plane the CV looses is a great loss, the hangar capacity is laughable. Nerfing CVs even more is not an option.
-
The reason there are so many DDs is simple - there are 4-5 BBs in every game. Why would you take a cruiser out, when you are food for them.
-
Or they will completely suprise us and give the fighters another strifing ability, which would actually damage ships.

By combining modules from my old laptop with those that were in this one. I made sure the timings match and that the channels are balanced and it is serving me well

This probably isn't the right forum to post this, but since the tech corner is a dead mans land, it seems appropriate. For the last patch I am encountering an error "Corrupted assets database." The interresting thing is that it comes up only if I restart my computer, if I put it to sleep, it stays ok. This can be solved by checking the data integrity and then basically redownloading the whole client (which is a pain in the bum since I am getting error extracting files for some bloody reason). The workaround I got from WGs support is to download the files via another torrent client and copy them to the updates folder, however that works only when I am at the extraction stage of the update, so I am still forced to download about 12 gigs of data every time this error comes up. Anyone with the same problem? Any known solutions? Plus yesterday I encountered an interresting rainbow patterns on the islands as shown here. I have tried updating my graphics card drivers to no effect. Once again, anyone with the same problem? And any solutions?
