This is precisely why I’m avoiding random battles where I could meet subs et al. I’m not interested in enjoying being on the sharp end of WGs bad ideas of the week. Fortunately there isn’t any really interesting or important events on currently so I’m not missing out by playing low tiers, savage battles or scenarios. I guess WG are lucky I’m in the minority avoiding random battles, if everyone who didn’t enjoy sub testing and super ship testing did the same imagine how it would force WG to actually take note.

The problem is WG just slightly tinkered at the edges without addressing the actual issues. They have not designed the game factoring in what makes submarine warfare interesting and are now desperately trying to shoehorn subs into the game without addressing the core concept. -

I can only begin to imagine the amount of rage and venom in chat such a class of CVs would produce. This really reads like it’s a trolling exercise, with any other company I would think it’s a wind up but with WG no idea seems too daft for them. -

Yesterday on the NA WOWS stream when discussing subs one of their staff: Ahskance said with the high rate of cool down it was a viable strategy for players to know where the obvious approach route of subs would be and to keep a rolling speculative ASW air drop over the said route to protect against subs. Now I’m exceedingly critical of the submarine project I readily admit that so perhaps my thinking is bias. Still I struggle to see such a strategy working. However I was wondering if any of you guys have found such a strategy to work? -

For operations sure they are a good tool for making players follow a certain route. They were fun in Operation Dynamo for example. I don’t however think they would be a good addition random battles, mind you same could be said of subs so knowing WG don’t rule it out.- 35 replies

From what I experienced on the PTS and how badly designed subs still are in game, I think I will stick to scenarios rather than endure such a egregious project. -

Very minor thing but when you announce the winners would be possible to see what the maximum number of kills, max damage numbers were please? Not overly important I grant you but just as a matter of curiosity to measure myself against. -

Having recently tried subs on the PTS I’m going to avoid randoms during this round of testing, thank goodness for scenarios (and even the savage battles) they are way more fun than playing guinea pig to this egregious sub project. -

It’s funny how often that happens to good CV players.

You would assume that was the case but even when there are no DDs present no matter what tier sadly a lot of BB players are just naturally very cautious and hang back waiting for someone else to spot for them.

Well I cannot say I’m surprised by the results of the poll. Sadly though that’s why WG would never offer such a choice because then they would have to do a better job of balancing CV vs surface ship interaction. Personally of course I would go for the matches without CVs I prefer the more aggressive pushing style of battle rather than the passive campy games that CVs cause.

Its an acquired taste for sure, but its ok I still prefer this to ranked battles. Although you haemorrhage karma if you win a game and come first, if karma was worth something it would actually be annoying lol

I’m not aware of any limits as to how many times we can use a ship, I’m pretty certain that’s a bug.

What will happen with containers and Santa containers rewards on Tier X after Tier XI come out?

Probably for the first year the super ships will get better rewards but it will be the following year all the rewards for super and tier X get “adjusted”. -
Also no ASW on the Dirigible mode, so thankfully avoided that distraction.

As I understand it all DDs currently have their depth charges disabled while WG are doing their latest round of tweaks. Now how her depth charges will behave once once subs return is a good question, I assume much like Druid’s squid launcher Vampire II’s limbo ASW will be rocket fired behind the ship ( unlike in real life where the point was to launch the ASW up and over the ship so you kept your target lock on the sub).

On EU yes we get our updates on Thursdays.

I confess I have a morbid curiosity to see just how bad they can mess up this update precisely for that reason.

It will be interesting to see if it can come out on their usual schedule. Because as those of us who participated in the third round of PTS can attest too, there were an awful lot of game crashes. In a few battles over 2/3 of one team would all be disconnected.

In theory we should get them on the live server too, well at least that’s what the article says on the news page but with WG I wouldn’t put it past them to mess it up. -
Whilst I’m certainly not a CV player if you do want to get used to playing them I would suggest practicing in the training room either with bots or friends to get the hang of it. Also check out YouTube for videos on CV play to get ideas around aiming and dodging flack.
