How difficult is it to become a decent DD player ATM?
lovelacebeer replied to SeaWolf7's topic in General Discussion
DD gameplay can still be a lot of fun but it's certainly not forgiving I enjoy it all the same though. I admit im bias but I would suggest using the British DDs to learn on as they have hydro and lots of short duration smoke and in higher tiers also a heal. These come in very handy to help escape if under attack or hide if you get the unwelcome attention of CVs. Also the Brits can be used to stealth torp but also happily gunboat so the utility comes in handy. DD gameplay does require a fair bit of caution certainly at the beginning of a battle, try to spot caps/ flanks for your team let the team do the damage near the start (also take the damage). The longer you stay alive one you make the enemy second guess where you are, two you are way more dangerous as the battle progresses. Mid tier battles are a good place to learn you meet hydro and CVs are reasonably common but not as overwhelmingly present as in low tier games. If possible division up with a friend in a light cruiser it's a huge help to have that reliable fire support if you bump into an enemy DD. Dealing with radar isn't too hard once you know where the radar ships are it's for that reason I advise against charging into caps but rather focus on spotting in the very start then just pray your BBs will bother to shoot at them (never hurts to try calling it as a target). Speaking from personal experience don't take silly risks smart enemy's love nothing more than to focus you, I get too impatient and try to force a situation and it's usually those times I get punished hard. -
Coordinated boycott of CB from EU and NA clans
lovelacebeer replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
At the end of the day the majority of people who engaged with the discussion after CB season 9 said CVs were an issue. WG have now said in a very a lovely written message that we get both Clan Brawl and Clan Battles with CVs albeit neither will be tier 10. WG have nailed their ‘colours to the mast’ as it were, and now it’s a personal choice for each of us to either acquiesce or not. For me CVs took away the very reason I play CB the fun of devising and testing varied tactics and strategy so there is no point playing because I won’t have fun. If the majority of people who complained about CVs in the last CB season don’t play then at least if nothing else it shows we are not just full of hot air. -
Only readily available data is the poll on the season 9 clan battles discussion, and even then only just over 80% of people think CVs are an issue.

Agreed armoured cruiser is a far more accurate description I think the 1938 Janes fighting ships say exactly that. Pocket battleship was a popular term created by the British press, I just used it as it is still a commonly understood way to describe these unusual ships.

If we are going to split hairs the Graff Spee isn't a Battlecruiser it's a Pocket Battleship or Panzerschiff, a battle cruiser is quite different.

Well if it helps on the PTS last weekend the sound effects for incoming shells, hits, ricochets etc were very different, so you may find that more to your liking. I didn't really notice any change to the gun sounds themselves that might just be my lack attention.

As CVs are involved is an easy decision for me to give it a miss.

At least we know just how little WG care for community feedback, still there will be a few people I'm sure who are delighted at this news. However for me I will sit this upcoming CB season out, a pity I used to enjoy the camaraderie offered by CB and the fun in experimenting with different tactics, but oh well all good things come to an end.

Coordinated boycott of CB from EU and NA clans

Well at least I know I don't need to bother with CB for another season. I admit the steel is always nice and I will really miss the camaraderie of CB but for me it's a matter of principle. -
No DD battles and 4 DD per side ones
lovelacebeer replied to KillStealBoss's topic in General Discussion
It is weird that you can have a battle with 4 DDs per side and then the very next battle just 1 or none per side, it would be so much more convenient if they were more evenly distributed per battle. Especially given how much more cautious people are in games without DDs to spot. -
Regional accents can be really hard even for us natives, I find south London or Newcastle (Geordie) accents require a lot of concentration but Scottish Highlands or West Country very easy.

The Royal Navy did have some very good subs in the forms of the T and U classes, although some very bad ones too the K class were a interesting idea but also a death trap. As well as the weird and wonderful in HMS M1 and her sisters. Not that it matters if the subs test is anything to go by then it won't be even remotely akin to submarine warfare so other than the look they won't reflect anything from the period.

FYI: Shipstorm tournament no longer supported by WG
lovelacebeer replied to HMS_Kilinowski's topic in General Discussion
You may have seen some examples in previous years the commentators used to have to commit suicide at the start of a battle so then they could have over views of the map. It was great fun to play and although I only participated a couple of times I hope the community keep it going even if WG has pulled their support. -

lovelacebeer replied to HMS_Kilinowski's topic in General Discussion
It was a tournament that teams could register to participate in that used to be show on steam Via various CCs and was a lot of fun https://worldofwarships.com/en/news/community/ship-again/ -
I’m from the South coast of England and I found his pronunciation pretty good I certainly could follow what he was saying without any difficulty. I have worked in a few non English speaking countries and I have found it does help when non native speakers try to copy the emphasis even if not done perfectly. A good example is in the video when the Lecturer says utilitarian (about 11 minutes in) in a very French way saying Ou rather than U-tilitarian. I hope this helps and more importantly makes sense.

lovelacebeer replied to HMS_Kilinowski's topic in General Discussion
It is a pity as Ship storm was a lot of fun, however it's not in the least surprising that WG have pulled their support. -
As Greyshark said the forum cannot help you, you need to submit the screen shot to the support team and they can take action. I would also also suggest you delete the screen shot you posted here to help you avoid getting into trouble with the forum rules.

Coordinated boycott of CB from EU and NA clans
lovelacebeer replied to thiextar's topic in General Discussion
True using the available information and just looking at the "Clan battles season 9" thread it's only slightly over 80% -
Newport is a great operation provided you either go in with at least 3 pretty competent division mates ideally in rapid firing cruisers to stop DDs getting into the base or RNJesus giving you extremely reliable teammates. I actually enjoy this operation but its one of the few times I prefer not to play solo.

I will certainly forward it onto my clan see what the consensus is, personally I will certainly be boycotting if CVs return. -

The report and karma system is broken
lovelacebeer replied to Knutorius's topic in General Discussion
Just watch out for @El2aZeR last week he was on about 2500 karma (as we all know CV players never get complimented apparently ), Also putting the rest of us under 1000 karma holders to shame. -
submarines SUBMARINES - discussion, feedback, opinions
lovelacebeer replied to WG_Lumberjack's topic in General Discussion
Just for ideas and fun a video explaining in WW2 how aircraft could detect submarines underwater and then pass that information onto DDs Also a photo of a Swordfish with depth charges (Swordfish also carried specialist radar for detecting submarines when on the surface), of course the Short Sunderland and other large Costal Command aircraft could carry many more depth charges and equipment for sub hunting.
