Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance
JanMorgenstern replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
I checked them on outside tool so they won't show there after 1st battle. At least not for some time. On WoWs page one of those not rated yet is noted but no battles yet. Whole clan is almost "brand new". Most players around 100ish battles. Top "experienced" did 1000 battles, 3 in 500-600 bracket and rest way below that. And you say they know game mechanic so well they just try to use "loophole"? Your 50/50 rating is as possible as me saying 99/1 about you taking into consideration how new players play and thinks. -

And you are sure all new players knows it? Plus 2 CVs in low tier game isn't right anyway. You just react from experienced player POV. 2 of 3 players in fail BB division aren't even showing with their statistics because they didn't played enough games plus 1 who played 356 games. There is 99.99% chance they had no clue what it means if they mix tier 3s with tier 4. It's just one tier difference and if you don't know what it means in this bracket then what you expect from them? And still if they would be all tier 4s you think they would be happy in their slow, no AA, no high SP captain against 2 CVs? And then is "fail" division in my team - 2 players under 250 battles and one with less than 1000. Again I repeat - when you talk about low tiers don't judge by "they should know all" standards. Unicum with almost 6k battles judging new players how bad they are and how sill they don't know all trick, game mechanics and rules he knows. You didn't even tried to check them and see why I wrote post about problems with MM at low tiers. -

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance

I'm not good player and I don't play too much and as much as I like general idea of this game then I hate what this game became. I started in beta and then maybe it wasn't perfect but I think typical player could have more fun no matter if he was good or just average/below average. But due to IRL I'm forced to take brake from playing WoW often and recently few times I tried to comeback, play and learn. Last time it was 3 days ago and after those 3 days my biggest issue is I just want to uninstall and forget about it. And my biggest issue are carriers and how often as low tier I must play against 2 or 3 CVs and how often those CVs are 2 tiers above me. I'm not great at this game but I can maneuver, use islands, smoke screen, etc to avoid incoming fire or torpedoes or at least I should be able and if I fail I can blame only myself. Sometimes it doesn't work as good as I wanted and I overestimated my ability to be in place I want at time I was sure I can reach it but this is my fault and my lack of knowledge and experience. But with CVs there is nothing I can do at low tiers. In low tiers AA is silly. WG had to add it so they added but it's meaningless. Not only firepower but range of AA fire. So even staying close with teammates doesn't work because if your AA range is between 1 - 2 km you are out of range and others can shoot planes which already attacked or you stay too close to each other and then you ram or can't shoot at enemy or you risk hitting friendly ship beside or there is no room to avoid torpedoes. So supporting each other is very hard or sometimes impossible. If there is higher tier ship in theory I can hang to it but then I'm spectator. No range to do anything to enemy unless enemy yolo. Or my "protector" yolo and I will follow just to have chance to shoot before I die. And then there is new mechanic how aircraft will attack you - wave after wave and they can hit you hard. Often you can't avoid multiple fires and you don't have enough HP to wait for whole attack to be over and only then use damage control. In slow low tier BBs you lack speed and agility to avoid torpedo attacks and as bottom tier you often must hide close to islands to prevent citadels. Torp attacks by planes are in multiple waves again and their duration is too long compared to duration of Damage Control and you cant ignore 1 or 2 flooding waiting for whole attack to be over. And you can be attacked by fighters then torpedo bombers. Just one ship safe from your response can play you as he want to take extra damge from fire/floods and then cause new DOT. And if there are torp/fighters or planes from 2 or more carriers and if then even one of those CVs is 1 or 2 tiers higher... There is no fun in such MM and fleet composition. There is no chance for new/returning player to learn/shake off some rust before player had enough and is just thinking about leaving game. Someone can say at the end everything will balance itself and player will win/lose 50/50 but win ratio is nothing if player can participate in any meaningful way in most of his battles. Whole playstyle is upside down. DDs can't scout, using land to hide is suicide because best way is to keep speed as high as possible and to have as much room to turn as possible. I can accept RNG as probability of hit/penetration/damage but RNG as matter of how many CVs will be in battle and how high on their list of target I'll be is game killer. I don't want to buy higher tier ships and I don't want to play those VII or VIII tiers I have too often because I'm not good enough and I will be lowering chance of victory for my team. I just want to relearn and gain more experience, train my captains to be more competitive while slowly going higher in tech tree. I don't like to be cannon fodder or practice target for others I can't reach. Even in WoT with artillery targets aren't at such disadvantage as in WoWs. Here you can't just hide or place in spot where CV can't reach you. You can't learn map and know where you are rather safe. No safe zones. If you protect yourself from higher tier ships then you are on plate for planes. CVs attacks are more vicious, you can't avoid it unless in smoke but that's short relief and even there with multiple attacks you can be hit. And as lowest tier in battle you'll be primary because it's like beating kid - no risk and bully can feel so powerful and safe. Damage to planes minimal, even if planes are same tier because they will attack in few waves victim probably will take a lot of damage from fire or flooding. No chance to outrun or outmaneuver too often. Whole experience is just huge struggle to stay alive as long as possible with not much of shooting or even going to place where one want to go. You are caught between rock and hard place and if there are few other planes countinuously attacking you can circle like something brown begin flush down and that's how exactly you feel. And then "best" part - higher tier planes which will just rip you apart. Not even 1 minute into game and just 1 attack of first wave can leave you dead or just with small amount of health far from any protection. Then you think - I love warships and I would be happy to play WoWs but I don't feel as player but human NPC target provided to CVs "drivers". Or battles when there are 2 tier V/VI and rest is 2 tiers above you without anything between. What is point of such MM especially if one is "lucky" to be in cruiser or even worse in BB capable of whole 20+ knots? You have no range, no armour and you are halfway to closest island when 50% faster higher tiers are already in their planned positions and simply they finish your ship in few salvos. I can understand for DDs it still can be fun because of low detection range so you can scout and wait for chance to bite. With high reward when low tier damage higher tier it can be fun but in big, slow ships it wont happen unless you are very very lucky. And you won;t be able to shoot those other few low tiers because you and your enemy counterpart will be dead before you will be in range to shoot each other. Just damage pinatas for higher tiers. I can understand 1 tier difference. I would be able to stand CV in lower tier game but if low tier CV isn't working on mechanic designed for high tiers. At low tiers you simply lack mechanics to protect/support AA which at higher tiers are making whole difference. There is almost no chance for cumulative AA fire from few ships, no AA consumables and in some cases no speed and agility to avoid some of those attacks. OK planes will hit not as hard but lower HP of victim and lack of similar tools to protect themselves means at the end those "lesser" hits hurts much more. So what difference makes if there are only 2 torps and those hit not as much as higher tier ones if avoiding it or preventing it is much harder and at the end there will be multiple attacks and all those "penalties" for victim are stacking higher and higher. Where is "learning" in this? Where is gaining experience of playing particular class of warship if just one type of ship is countering everything and turning whole game upside down? And this is what new or returning player gets for most of his games. Before he even reach tier V he is cannon fooder not just because older players knows more but because there is more people playing higher tiers and he is food to them. So gap between anyone who isn't experienced and was't playing much and older players is getting wider and wider. maybe number of accounts grows but I know my family and friends who tried WoWs too and even those who like such type of game give up after short time because outside first 2-3 tiers vs bots they are put in place of those low level bots. And often what you learn at those low levels is counterproductive at higher tiers. And even if some of those new players will buy premium/premium ships to cross gap they will learn you can't simply solve it with spending money. WG will get profit from that but it's short term and at the end source of new players isn't endless and will of returning players isn't "made of steel" and if current MM and fleet compositions will be such punishing for those people we won't struggle day after day for months. Few days or couple of weeks and most will give up. And I wouldn't call it learning curve because one doesn't learn much if he is nuked by CVs or other 2 tier higher warships.
