    Fubuki torps post-0.5.3. Which ones to choose?

    With the introduction of the radar perk (something like 10km+ range on high tier Soviet cruisers) in the next patch, I would assume it will be virtually suicidal to equip anything but the 15km ones (torp accelerator notwithstanding), otherwise you might as well play a US DD if all you're gonna do is jump out from behind an island occasionally...? I say this as someone who preferred the 10km torps on the pre-nerf Minekaze & who is just about to buy a shiny new Fubuki (though I shan't be playing it until I get enough free XP for the hull & torps).

  4. Er......... No. You're projecting. & how someone can look at this scenario & go "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH MAGAZINE DETONATIONS!!111" when the obvious sane response is "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAH HE AOE DAMAGE TO DDS WAAAAAAAAAAH!" is just beyond me.

  6. Yes mate, I appreciate that, but d'you sincerely believe that it'll have a 30 second reload in-game? I feel it's a ridiculous choice for tier 5, a 1930s vintage semi-Treaty heavy cruiser with nine guns & a 36 knot top speed. Which, again, is going to be meeting South Carolinas. PS: I hope I haven't come off as unappreciative, I really appreciate everyone's input & efforts digging this stuff out, I'm just astonished at the sheer potential OP-ness of them.
  7. I don't wanna sound like a conspiracy theorist, but to me it kinda looks obvious now that they nerfed the cruiser-specific captain skills just to preserve this very scenario. Everyone who complains about the lack of their long-range HE spam will be able to just buy a Russian cruiser & continue playing Counterstrike go back to their preferred playstyle, whilst they will also have the added versatility of punching through anyone & anything with their AP. & if that's not enough, it's kinda obvious that from about tier five up the Russian cruisers are, well, plus-one tier. Kirov is more than a match for Aoba, & is going to meet South Carolinas. The tier 9 is a tier 10 for any other nation & their tier 10 is some sort of monstrous 9" gunned demi-battlecruiser. But y'know, game balance YAY! You mean like the Gremy's trial & IRL top speed, then? EDIT: sorry Vulgarny, didn't mean to come off as confrontational, there. Just pointing out that iirc the Gremy's in-game speed is the trial, I don't think a little thing like "reality" is going to have much bearing on the in-game stats of these beauties.

    Works fine for me with all my old mods just slung into the appropriate folder--but I only use "Crosshair #1" (so I can see the numbers!) & camo remover. BTW playing on laptop, no SLI here.

    I've grown accustomed to the Hatsu grind--a seemingly never-ending plastic hallway where you die like a dog--but preliminary tests indicate that the new "Torpedo Reload Booster II" makes me smile like a loon. Your mileage may vary, but doing the "One torp load goes here, wait for you to turn/react & dump the rest HERE" trick works SO much better now, & the effect of doing this with 6 torps in the water instead of 3 is huuuuuge. I doubt this will carry over to peak times, however; loads of planes in the air would be A Bad Thing when you can't hide at all. EDIT: Having written that last sentence above, it occurs to me that never have I been saved by smoke when a CV wants me lit up. So it might be more useful yet...

    What Panocek said. They scrapped the more complex damage model back in alpha as they felt it was "too complex" for the game they wanted to create & the clicky-clicky shooty-shooty target audience might be scared off. Also, from reading various developer thingies over the years, I believe there was an issue ('cos of the arcade-y nature of the game & the brevity of engagements) of mission-killed ships still extant in battles; the sort of thing that would not matter in a single-player sim like Fighting Steel 'cos you had time acceleration etc so slowly leaking ships would eventually sink hours later but when transposed to the arcade shooter environment of WoWS just meant that some ships were impossible to sink while being unable to further contribute to the battle. It's a shame, but I can see why they did it (crosses fingers & hopes someone wants to remake Fighting Steel or an equivalent sim with modern technology), just.

Stupid question this but as I'm at work atm & cannot try it myself: this shows smoke radii for all released smokescreens, right? & as someone said above, the currently occupied/last emitted smoke "puff"... has a green highlight around it? Not just for your smoking ship, but all other smoking ships? So with this mod you can actually tell (roughly) where someone is in their own smoke???? Please excuse me if that's not the case, I'm just going off what one or two others have jumped in with above.
  14. I had this issue for months in the middle of last year--oh, the joy of suddenly not being able to train your guns or torp launchers!--deleted preferences.xml once, & have never had it again.
  15. Hello mate! Glad you got that 10th point. Stronk DD is stronkerer with stronkering captain. Or something. (Though my favourite part of the night was the last game, me throwing myself into the path of that Yorck as he came around the corner where you were hiding... One good turn deserves another...)

    Sims needs a buff - a big one

    The guns take some getting used to but recently I've had a bit of success with the long-range torp option; people seemingly don't know about the optional slow torps & the relatively quick reload (compared to IJN) & nice configuration of the launchers mean you can score some surprising hits. It's not the devastating killer it was in OBT, I admit, but I've dusted it off once or twice & enjoyed playing it.

    Uh. Yes. It was sarcasm, as one could perhaps construe by me demanding that WG nerf Valentine's day. Mentioning the statistical reality of DD play was a way of subtly reinforcing my point. Unless you only read the sentence of mine you quoted or think that WG can/should in fact nerf dawn on Sundays.

    ^^ BB guys, thank you, it's a pleasure reading such discussions of armour lay-outs (I'm serious, C20th naval ships are like pr0n for me, it's why I'm playing!), fascinating stuff & I also appreciate the discussion of how it will translate in-game. But just to clarify ('cos I'm stupid): in the picture that Fnord posted, the H41 has 12" of belt armour??!?!? I take it it's like a massive Bismarck then, with multiple splinter-sandwiches of lighter armour behind the main belt, right? & also (please forgive, nowhere near tier 10 yet!): isn't the Yamato a bit like that? i.e. not all-or-nothing? So how come it doesn't suffer the heavy pen-but-not-citadel damage from salvoes (or does it, like I said I don't have a tier ten 'cos I've spread my play-time over too many lines)? Sincere apologies for thread-derailment.

    I for one am astonished that at 7 a.m. on Valentine's Day Sunday there weren't enough T10 ships to make two proper teams. & yes, as someone said above, it's totally the fault of destroyers who rule the waves with top damage in all tiers, & henceforth W.G. should nerf Valentine's Day really, really hard. Perhaps add 2km to its detection radius or something. Also: if they could see their way clear to nerfing Sundays as well, that'd be grand. TY in advance.

I'm so glad someone bumped this thread, 'cos I originally missed the bit where I explained that an individual felt the way they did because of human nature & he basically replied "Well yeah, but that's WG's fault! They should compensate for that!" Cheered me right up, that has. & also a reminder that any ideas I may have had recently that this forum was once a halcyon place of order & intelligent debate are nostalgic fantasies.

    The absolute best bit about detonations--apart from the fact it reminds me I'm playing what's supposed to be a warship game rather than Halo with a bad case of damp--is the whiny, rattle-throwing & quite quite hilarious rage they provoke amongst a certain section of the forum population. That's another vote "For", btw.

    ^ Thank you, overlooked that one! I must say, it seems a bit of an over-reaction from the original poster I quoted, then; from the way he was talking I assumed they'd nerfed the HE AOE "I dodged that but it still killed me" "hits" which DDs take in abundance.

    Please excuse me for butting in, but I appear to have missed something. Are they modifying the HE AOE shock damage to DDs from near-misses? I might be mistaken but haven't seen anything like that discussed (possibly I just missed it in the ****-storm over the rest of the upcoming patch changes)...?
