    Regarding Torpedo-Battleship Balance

I feel the OP would be happy sailing his BB up the valley in Lakeville, & that's all I have to say on the matter. My Fuso doesn't mind torps, it's other BBs that give it trouble (or co-ordinated attacks from multiple arms, in which case, duh, I've sailed somewhere stupid or they've outplayed me, GG). However, in the spirit of the prevailing attitude of most pro-BB players who post on this board, can WG please buff sailing in a straight line in narrow places where people can hide? Because currently such an action is massively underpowered. & also nerf anyone who can shoot back at me & damage me? & nerf me getting it wrong or the tide of battle turning & my getting stuck somewhere I shouldn't have been? & also, nerf anyone outplaying me. Or any mechanic that might kill me at all whatsoever. 'kaythanksbye.

CBT verdict: this is a pretty boring game

I must be as weird as Gonzo himself 'cos I bloody love this game. Ah well.

    Aiming MOD Exposed!

& my opinion is that kicking up a fuss so that something is done about it by WG is infinitely preferable to burying one's head in the sand & hoping that the number of people cheating will remain "small". I am willing to forgo all mods for the pleasure of the above, if it comes to it. But I don't want to play a game, frankly, where the developers do not care to police their own system to ensure fairness, just because "it's a relatively small problem". For the poor schmuck on the receiving end, it's a huge problem & one that can put a crimp on your night/game/whatever. So forgive me if I'd prefer the company that owns the game to pull its finger out of its orifice & actually do something about it rather than just living in hope that people cannot use the search engine of their choice.

    New AAA

If such a thing works I would like a placebo buff, someone please. But I cannot tell you what needs buffing on an open forum such as this. Anyone interested please PM for details.

    Regarding Ocean

I've played the new map once in a DD... I love it, & in my opinion--admittedly based on one battle--it's the single best thing to happen to this game. I know, sample size-schmample size (?). But still. It's meant to be a BB-tastic, carrier heaven map. But, imo, your "average" BB player will wander around like your average BB player does (if they could sail into the valley on Lakeville, they'd try. & then complain bitterly that swamps need to be nerfed). But you only need to ask nicely to your fellow DDs & maybe a light cruiser & tell them what you plan to do, & you can wreak havoc on this map whilst spotting their entire team. & even if your BBs are mostly stoned or drooling into their keyboards, they will eventually notice all the pretty ships that have sprung up on the horizon & maybe even start shooting at them. A natural cascade effect occurs, as your CVs send in sweeping waves that tend to arrive just as you need to get out of trouble. My point is not that such things occur, but that you can influence them to occur by your actions & play. The game I had today might've been an outlier, it might not "matter", but I am simply adding this for reportage, for feedback, for the sake of saying: it's the most organic example of teamwork I've seen in a computer game with a load of people I didn't know, & also "felt" like a naval battle (inasmuch as I wasn't at the battle of North Cape or Jutland or Guadalcanal), or at least--like other, sim-heavy, rivet-counting naval games I've played that also managed at times to instil that certain "rightness" once in a blue moon--provided a reasonable facsimile of the idea of naval combat I have in my head from reading about such topics since I was a tiny child.A good game (which is all I had) on this map in a DD & it's like Prokhorovka in a Luchs. With torpedoes & a smokescreen.I offer this as feedback before I go to work, for the simple fact that I have never been happier playing a computer game than playing this round. I mean that. Ever. So. There.PS: I know those who lack social skills themselves & insist on fronting that the entire human race must therefore be like them will leap in with "NO TEAMWORK IS POSSIBLE EVAH!!11!!!" & other poisonous attitudes that they appear to have picked up en masse from Gamergate-like reptiles who post in the US forums & refer to people who enjoy certain game mechanics as horrific diseases; I'm afraid that people who feel this way will always feel this way & whatever I or the rest of the human race do, in or out of game, their attitudes will never change (except perhaps until the far-off day when they get laid, should that miracle ever occur). But to immediately leap to the assumption that everyone must be as socially disadvantaged as oneself is to do the human race a great disservice & begs the question: if you feel like that about people, why not play a single player game where one can bathe in one's own misanthropy? PPS: & yes I admit if this Dutch fella hadn't spotted what I was doing (not sure if he even spoke English, TBH) & co-ordinated with me & I'd've died alone, I probably wouldn't be posting this. But he did, & we did, & we carried the entire game. My point is, if you've got it in you, & someone else happens to have it within them, then it's possible that this map will bring out great things. Whining that at a certain point the confluence of factors might not lend itself to such an outcome is pointless, imo, because it utterly discounts every single occasion when it does happen & the stars align. So, again. I've posted this just to say: THIS IS POSSIBLE!!! & the very fact of that exceeds whatever expectations I had for this game. Thank you for reading & apologies for the length, incoherence & meandering nature of this missive. Have a good day.

    800 Mb update

@genai: I don't wish to seem combative dude, but this is closed beta. The traffic numbers are small. If you introduce rules to MM such as "2/3 BBs per team max" queues will increase exponentially, particularly at times when the server population is low. I've already seen whines important feedback from the CV die-hards when their cap was introduced; now you wanna put the cat amongst the pigeons by capping the most popular, iconic ships in the game... again, in closed beta. When they're trying to work everything out. I suggest the old wait & see, mate, before making flappy pronouncements. PS: Also, yeah, cruisers should, in an ideal world, be out jinking & zig-zagging in front of the main battle line, but behind the destroyers. Perhaps CAs & CLs will learn to do that on this new open map, providing an annoying distraction for the BBs & a scourge to the scouting/torp-running DDs, allowing their own BBs to focus fire on points of the enemy line & achieve a breakthrough. Because at the moment, the islands simply encourage the kind of player who hides in their heavy tank in the valley at Lakeville an excuse to wander off to "safety" (& then complain ten seconds later that they've been torpedoed unfairly). I would hope the CA players learn to use their advantages to survive. I for one cannot wait to try out the new map with my brand-new Mogami.
  8. Buy a 15 year old desktop, install Win XP 32 bit or Win 98, ahem, find a copy of Fighting Steel, download the FSP project add-on. Job's a good'un.

Lag bad for the first time.

In the last few days, mine has started playing up too, no matter what time of day. Both short range (a Kongo, which you'd think would be big enough to see at 2km with no smoke about) & long range (rubber-banding/sliding ships etc).

    Mega Feedback Thread with iChase

& what that is is "an unstoppable, untouchable death machine which will slaughter with impunity unless the captain is either stoned, facing uber-leet opponents or having a really unlucky day". I can accept that in lower tiers (hey, the tiers I've played!) because "older ships don't have decent AA". Okay. No problem. But all the way through the game to the top tiers? & becoming ever more effective? I think what you are in effect asking for is "World of Carriers", or "the historic events of late WW2". As this game is titled "World of Warships" instead of either "World of Carriers" or "The historic events of late WW2", I'm sure you will (finally) see some of the problems inherent in this proposal?

    View through a smokescreen.

Thank you, though TBH WG's "loosely on real" is my "Prancing ultraviolet unicorn with deathray eyes", which is why I specifically phrased the question that way.

    View through a smokescreen.

Yes, thank you, but I'm not talking about IRL (I mean, obviously firing a torpedo isn't going to get one spotted through a smokescreen in real life) but in terms of actual game mechanics? Anyone know please?

    View through a smokescreen.

^ Excuse me, stupid question, but in addition to the "shooting voids your smokescreen" thing noted above, does firing a torpedo count as shooting for the purposes of game mechanics?

I vote for Dread R'lyeh to rise from the sunken, dreaming depths, & Lord Cthulhu to follow (possibly in a squamous fashion), lumbering forth unimaginable & bloated & attended by all His abominable handmaidens of nightmare, the skies to turn to blood & the sea become as it were a thing of glass mingled with fire, & all puny humans run screaming from their monitors whilst clawing out their eyes in a vain attempt to remove from the forever-tortured remains of their psyche the indelible image of the Alpha & the Omega, the terrible thing that haunts the dark, made flesh in front of them. Or at least, as near to flesh as ectoplasmic vaguely corporeal reality-shattering unspeakably eldritch horror can get. Please. If it's not too much trouble. I'm sorry, what was the question again?

    Torpedo Counter Measure

I can think of a better torpedo counter-measure: not sailing in a straight line in places you're likely to get hit by torpedoes.

    balance ships

I love playing DDs, my favouritest class (also the one I suck least in; though, not by much). As Mighty Klen Leader said upthread, the depiction of torps is pretty much nailed on--if people too stupid to change course moan "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH TORPS OP!!1111!!!!" or call you "Torpedo noob" after you kill their much stronger ship, then their depiction is pretty much spot-on, imo. Personal preference: I would ask for the reinstatement of the Long Lance for every class above the Wakatake, but I fear now the hordes are getting their hands on the game there is little chance of this. I hear howls to nerf torps nearly every single game now & making them longer-range would only confuse the little dears more when their ship disappears from under them after they insist on put-putting their huge unwieldy ship down that narrow channel screened by islands.

    citadel?

Citadel [sit-uh-dl, -uh-del] noun 1. a fortress that commands a city and is used in the control of the inhabitants and in defense during attack or siege. 2. any strongly fortified place; stronghold. 3. (formerly) a heavily armored structure on a warship, for protecting the engines, magazines, etc.

    Sound Tearing horribly

Sound tearing under heavy load (multiple close-range gun hits, planes & heavy fire, say), or fading out completely & only coming back in intermittently. Win 7 laptop with ATI graphics & an Intel CPU here.
