    Ridiculous RNG

There's a line WG has to balance between realism & arcade; they've gone about as far one way (arcade, duh) as practicable with this title, imo. Seriously, whilst I don't agree with Userext all the time & his methods here are... idiosyncratic, he's trying to explain something which I think you & Ranzir & some others in this thread are missing the point of: it's a WW2 naval game. WG has stripped out almost all the complexities of the combat of the era, but they've left it "feeling" like a naval game. The whole point of the game is that it's a crap-shoot with something like a battleship; it's meant to be. Large calibre naval guns were hellaciously innacurate. It's really difficult to hit anything at sea. That's why everything is so hit & miss: it's mighty steel titans battling with (mostly) analogue technology. I'm not starting on you or telling you you're stupid or anything: but seriously, read a naval book. It was even worse than this in real life (seriously, the hit rate at Dogger Bank wasn't bad. Seriously, it wasn't bad. 1%. Not bad). Thus, it would be... weird if everything hit everywhere you pointed it. Also, it's not just a theme thing. It takes place (mostly) across vast expanses of ocean. There is no cover or anything else to hide behind. If you turned it into a laser-accuracy sniper simulator, then, well, all the ships would evaporate in like six seconds. All the people who wanna play a naval game would laugh, very hard. This is the same problem when it comes to lowering damage & upping accuracy: then it's nothing at all like a WW2 naval game. At all. Genuinely not trying to be patronising mate, but this game is what it is, & I think (design-wise, if not implementation-wise, I can quibble RE: that all day) I think they've kinda got it about right. It feels like a WW2 naval game, dumbed down & on methamphetamine & shinied up for popular consumption as it is. But it still feels like one. & that's kinda important, imo. I think you & others in this thread are making a category error mate: you're playing the wrong game. EDIT: Edited for clarity.
  2. Astonishingly, despite the DD nerfs, it's still possible at the low tiers I've tried to torp people; battleships are still sailing in straight lines; I torp them, & if I'm out of detection range wait for reload & come back around to do another pass, & they're still sailing in the same straight line, & eat some more. I heartily approve.

    Rudder - made in china?

Some games I am also finding that every other HE shot seemingly takes out my rudder or engine.
  4. Much much much better here, I now sometimes see the countdown rather than getting in after 1-3 minutes.
  5. 750-something battles got me in the 10%. & the best thing: my stats got wiped!

what the hell happened to the ping

^ This. Even my creaky rig seems stable (so far...) at usable FPS. Been a few laggy moments during shellstorms but muuuuuch better than pre-patch. +1 WG.
  7. I would hope that everyone playing this game is a primate, mate. Unless the giant lizard people are here already. In which case: Welcome to our squamous brethren.

    Wipe confirmed June 26th....

Thanks mate (plus-ones recharged & distributed!).

    Wipe confirmed June 26th....

Excuse me mate, any confirmation of this from anyone official? Sorry to be thick but it does say on the list: "Alternative strike aircraft attack (point attack) becomes a commander’s ability and is no longer available by default." Now, mangled as that is, is that not official confirmation of their stupid idea (i.e. that manual torpedo drop is now an unlockable skill) going live? Genuinely not starting, it's just you're a supertester & therefore your opinion carries weight & your comment piqued my interest! PS: Just for clarification, it is my sincere belief that manual torpedo drop as a captain skill is an extremely stupid, pay-2-win idea that should be struck from the game ("Bought yourself a new carrier? You'll be wanting some gold to go with that, sir!").

    Manual drop Captains Ability

I don't wanna sound like a Whining Winnifred here--& ironically enough I've been advocating a sort of "wait & see" approach up until now, particularly as regards the state of CV play (I stopped playing carriers the patch they introduced the IJN ones, I have to admit)--but some WG decisions regarding the conceptual space of carriers in the game (JET FIGHTERS!!111!!ONE!!! MANUAL AIMING AS A BUYABLE SKILL!!!111!!) are mind-blowingly, heroically stupid. Are they making a PC game or are they making a tablet/phone game?

    Torpedo detection range

Nice one, thank you! I've plus-one'd him but I didn't have one left to compensate yourself, good sir. Apologies.

    Torpedo detection range

Not starting or nuffink mate, but from whence did this information come, please?

    Scout planes got guns

    Thanks, will do.

    Scout planes got guns

What are they like shooting US bombers/torpedo planes please mate? Not tried the Japanese CV line...

175mb patch today, what is it?

    Thank you both.

175mb patch today, what is it?

Can someone help me with this 'cos my brain's shut down for the weekend... But they've returned stock BBs only to pre-3.1 levels as well as... the premium DDs & cruisers?!?!? & left fully upgraded BBs turning the same? Sorry if I'm getting this wrong, like I said it's been a long week...

    Regarding encounter battles

As the previous poster said: try not to sail off into the corner in your battleship & ignore all cries for help from the centre? Maybe look at one's map once in a while?

Upgrading a ship lacks of excitement

Has the OP thought about setting off some fireworks every time he researches a module?

Longer loading time after last update

Just to add to the clamour: yes, I'm glad I saw this thread, thought it was because my computer's so old & crappy. Post-the last patch I normally get in about five-ten seconds before my torps are loaded (IJN tier 6+).
  20. ^ It may be that your point hints at the new "design philosophy", mate, but I think you're approaching a solution from the wrong angle: with the global ice-skating mode engaged turn-rate buff, battleships are much more able to avoid torpedoes (whether air or surface launched) now, which makes them far less vulnerable full stop (as torping the damn things was mostly the thing that kept them honest before). So, if people now want to play DDs, their line of thinking goes: "Well, last game I got within point-blank range of a broadside-on BB & still couldn't torp i successfully, so stuff trying to torp the damn things, I'm a-gonna just cap & hide this game NYEEH-NYEEH-NYEEH-NYEEH-NYAH". The mass swing in the effectiveness of BBs (no hard counters now, really) means an entire change in philosophy for everyone else. This has a knock-on effect as BBs still don't go back to defend caps etc, so the whole tenor of the game changes, & you'll see a lot more of these unsatisfying endings as people look to do something else in their ship rather than be suicide fodder. I don't think nerfing the numbers of DDs (or any other class) is a viable solution though. Returning to other classes the ability to hurt BBs reliably (in situations where they are at a tactical disadvantage, ambushes & being caught out alone etc etc) would mean DD players want to do something other than capture the base... & the only way to do that without further messing with the balance is to reduce the turn-rates of ships again. Just imo, like. Again I'd like to reiterate I do see your point, I just don't think you can fix it the way you're suggesting as they've made non-battleship gameplay more unsatisfying as it is...

Ship turn rates are rediculously fast.

Please explain how "historical" it is that a 600-700 foot long battleship can do a 180 out of the path of six torpedoes fired from a destroyer travelling parallel at a range of 3 km or less? It's not just the American ones; you lot paint with a very broad brush & now the gangly, lengthy Fuso turns like a speedboat. It's happened to me, & many other people are popping up in threads & all over Reddit, too. I know you're paid for damage limitation to toe the party line mate but at least try to keep your bolsterism vaguely related to what we can see on our screens, eh?

    0.3.1 update - First Impressions

^^ not only was that hilarious, but you have an excellent point: all the announcements clog up the chat something awful & make it very confusing. Bad idea imo; throw up a remark when your own ship achieves one but I really don't care if someone else managed to get "Engaged autopilot" achievement or whatever.

    Need For Speed: Warship Drift

Run out of plus ones but I concur: Battleships used to feel like, well, 35,000 tonnes of steel plunging through the water. Now it's as if they're some sort of water-borne Harrier jump-jet. It seems to me a massive over-reaction to the masses of torpedo-whiners we've seen on the forum in the last month. The game now seems to be designed to provide "Get out of jail free" cards to the lone BB, way out of position & doing something stupid (sailing unescorted into a smoke-bank or clipping the edge of a huge island at a distance of 50m). These are the type of people who were crying loudest, again & again, the YOLO-ing "muh ship is biggest" battleship player. The design of the game itself is in danger of becoming lopsided: today a battleship--broadside on--dodged my torpedoes from ~2.5 km: surely if I'm that close & launch (six!!!!) torpedoes, the recipient should be eating them? At least, like, one of them? If 2.5 km on the broadside (opposite, parallel course) is now a salvageable situation when under torpedo attack, pray tell: what is the optimum torpedo launching distance? PS: Definitely not complaining about the fact that the aforementioned BB killed me with his secondaries: he should've, I appreciate that. But FFS he got away without a scratch, despite not turning until my fish were in the water. It says on the portal: "TACTICAL DIVERSITY", & that is NOT what we're headed towards.
