I notice that on the Mutsuki (as far as I've ventured in OBT): target doesn't turn, middle one can strike, of the other two one will sail a couple hundred yards ahead of the target, one behind. This is on narrow spread, FWIW.

Great Naval Battles... Oh man, so many years hours lost to those. & Fighting Steel & Jutland (urgh)... As someone said above, I like it when teamplay arises organically from the utlisation & interaction of the ship classes. It's a great feeling & comes around far more often than in WOT, imo.

I try & compliment people who may not score highly in terms of XP/kills/damage, but play well as a team-they did some brilliant scouting, they held a flank, went back to decap/ran interference, skauted like a mofo, something like that. Also, I compliment people on the enemy team if they completely outplayed me personally or nullified a lot of my team's work. I only hit plays poorly if they did something completely off--repeatedly fired torps behind allies/in situations where they've already hit an ally, & don't respond to requests to stop being a dinlo--or they gave a lot of arsiness out when asked to do something by a member of the team etc etc. Not for scoring low or getting killed in their Kongo by a single St. Louis etc, but for the cruiser who could've had an effect on the game (decapping, helping a BB, etc) & refused point blank or just wandered off despite explicit requests from team-mates. EDIT: Obviously, the latter is not employed in situations where you get people ranting "HURRRDURRR, Y DD NO FIGHT THOSE 3 CLEVELANDS?!?!? RAPPORT PLS!!"

THIS. OP, read this please. You've got entirely the wrong end of the stick, as the dude above explains. Also helpful:- & this:- Also, Tier 3 battleships suck donkey wossname so hard deliberately 'cos WG wants you to know you are not playing easy mode. If that lesson has already been absorbed, feel free to free XP up to the tier 4, when you will have the choice of slow but gun-covered brawler (USS Wyoming) & fast, lightly armoured cruiser-killer (IJN Myogi). Enjoy! PS: One more thing.... For the love of all that's unholy, fire AP at battleships & cruisers unless your AP cannot penetrate. Use HE only things you cannot penetrate & things which don't have armour (DDs, CVs... Though you can reliably citadel low-tier CVs with 14"+ guns, you do kinda have to know where to shoot them). I note this cos I killed a Kongo last night: he was on full health, my Kongo had 16k left. He was obviously new, 'cos he was shooting HE at me all the time, whilst I sat there wrecking him with citadel penetrations for 15K a time. He was Very Angry Indeed.

People do co-operate, at least with me. Not all of the time, & I get my fair share of those who are neurologically atypical who like to shout you down for even asking, but mostly if you can keep your rag & remember to phrase things neutrally, you can get someone to help. Being extra polite helps. N.B: I realise that the above is probably beyond the grasp of a significant proportion of the player-base. YMMV.

Run out of plus-ones mate, but soooo much this. I laugh nastily when I hit a South Carolina & he goes boom from one salvo when I'm in my Kongo (& then normally calls me haxx0r); I say "GG" when the first 6" HE shell from an Omaha detonates my Mutsuki from full health. Swings & roundabouts.

Get rid of these ridiculously stupid one-hit-kill ammo wreck luck shots

I think we've found our answer, Gil. -
I'm down with this as well, FWIW. As I've posted, to me, WOWS still feels a bit like a naval game. That's good enough for me, & probably as close as they can get it whilst still making the game they've made (i.e. as close as we're gonna get with the game we've actually got, which is a massively simplified arcade shooter). I fear this is gonna start going out the window thanks to whiners & we'll end up with (GAH) "smooth damage curves" for BBs where you chip, chip, chip, chip at enemy's health, instead of "BOING-BOING-BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM", which is what it is now& what it should be, IMO. Because the former isn't anything like a representation or abstraction of big-gun battleship combat, imo. It's Doom or something on water.
-
They do have one mate, it's just I'd bet you dollars to doughnuts it's called "The amount of money we earned through people Free-Xp-ing their way through the bloody Mutsuki".
-
Have WG definitely definitely not reduced the citadel chance to satisfy whiners who are unable to work out how to use BB guns properly? Definitely? Because, well... I haven't seen many. & neither has anyone I've asked. Would appreciate some sort of confirmation/denial on this, please. @AkainuTaisho: I think BB accuracy has improved overall, subjectively at least. Feels a bit weird imo, more hits but less of that devastating impact I'm used to when I know I've lined one up right. EDITED: I did actually score a citadel with a BB. Well. There you go.

Why are Battleships so insanely weak ?
Khul replied to eatmygoldshells's topic in General Discussion
Would you like my replay of me one-shotting an Atlanta in my Kongo, first salvo? I mean, you would have to install the client to play it back, so I can understand if you don't. -
If you care to look up Ectar's post history I'm quite certain you'll find him still hedging about it, within the last few days. If not, I rescind my comment (apart from the bit about them holding out as long as possible on account unification so that people buy more gold, that's blindingly obvious imo).
-
I too know the OP's pain, getting hammer & anvil'd from a CV when you're in a DD is extremely frustrating... & means the next time I get through the enemy lines, there is far too much glee as I inflict undue amounts of punishment on the floating airports.
-
But they're still officially fudging the issue with "WE MIGHT WIPE AGAIN!!! I mean, probably not!!! BUT WE MIGHT!!" on these very forums so you can't use any gold you already have, just in case you break & can be persuaded to buy more gold in case of future technical difficulties.

Yes. But it is worth mentioning that because of WG's all-or-nothing nerfhammer/"balance" policy, that in a certain other game wherever teams are self-selected there are teams composed entirely of a certain vehicle & no others, simply because of the way WG tailor the gameplay of their games (an economic decision probably involving something complicated & occulted to do with the money spent converting free XP, I shouldn't wonder). This was laughable & frustrating & kinda boring, but exactly the same thing would happen here, I'm sure (just more watery). Just think of a Tier Six team battle in this game: on the US side, twelve Clevelands & an Independence (maybe; probably more like 13 Clevelands). On the IJN side... LOL. Some Aobas & a poor doomed Mutsuki covered by a Ryujo who spends the entire time wailing 'cos he can't get through the AA curtain with someone brave playing a Fuso. Imagine a tier 5 battle: twelve Omahahahahas & a Bogue & a Clemson to protect the solitary New York, laughing at the burning pyre of a couple of Kongos & a gaggle of Furutakas, with a couple of Minekazes wailing about their now-increased detection range & lack of 10km torps, whilst it'd take you two hours to get a game in a Zuiho who would be immediately shut down by the Bogue. Someone might take a Umikaze for shits & giggles & would be the last one alive. The random element of the MM & what people that instant are playing is in my opinion the only thing that keeps this game at all tolerable; though part of me is hoping for lovely things with ranked battles & team battles in the future, another louder part is already going "Remember facing entire teams of IS3's in company battles? The hiding-to-nothing that was playing a Panzer III or Stug in historical battles?" & that part of me is very loud. PS: I'd like to believe that this kind of thing could be sorted by some judicious balancing, say if one day they retier the Cleveland. Or when they flesh out the rosters & fill in more ships. But that's a fantasy, & it just won't (something else will be deemed "too desirable to nerf" by a certain element of the dev team & there'll just be another ship that fills rosters) & I bet any attempt to implement something like this will wither on the vine before it's even fully tested out. Yes, there are lines to add & new flavours to try out to try to mix the thing, but there just isn't give in the game mechanics to make this sort of mode tolerable to anyone who'd like to see teams which aren't all the same, all the time, & dominated by three or four (or less) certain ships.

I can only presume you've quoted me 'cos I quoted the other dude? Unless you are referring to me, in which case... Er, what?
-
Please for the love of Satan, everyone ignore this paragraph! If CVs stop camping stock-still behind islands my pitiful kill-rate with the Mutsuki will plummet even further! Even when they're standing stock-still & I have a clear shot at them the fecking torp tubes only manage two hits per launcher, kindly stop making my job even more difficult!

It has been kinda mental out there recently, I'm grinding Mutsuki ATM (hello, 40-something per cent winrate!) so I expected a drop but I've lost 3% overall in a week. Some of that must be due to me being frustrated at loss after loss in my grind-y ship & then carrying this frustration over to all other ships I play. But the last game I had had two Hoshos, versus one Langley. "We can't do anything versus a Langley" both CVs whined ALL GAME in chat. "It's so unfair," they kept saying to the enemy, "I hope they nerf US planes soon!" That's TWO Hoshos versus ONE Langley, remember. I couldn't quite believe it. I mean, I could, but it was a stark & glaring explication of the player-base. Ranked battles or some sort of team battle cannot come soon enough, it's wearing to know that (if you're a horrifically average player, like myself) unless one plays an absolute blinder of a match with zero mistakes made & a razor-sharp allowance to the possibility of failure of every single element of your team--from stuff that shouldn't concern you to your immediate tactical concerns--you're booked for a loss. It's stressful & tiring & makes WOWS at the moment seem like a device to increase one's misanthropy rather than a game. Break time ahoy, I think. PS: Sorry to talk out loud like this & indulge myself in a whine, but I'm with you OP mate. PPS: & obviously, I need to division more. Back to skulking around the forumites chat channel...
-
Then how dare you presume to speak down to others & offer sneering "advice" & even more sneering chiding to those who would speak of things they know about?!?!??! Again, from what basis are you "offering" your constant harping on about a sector of gameplay you obviously know nothing about? I know nothing RE: CVs (I am terribad). I don't go around calling for mass nerfs on them & telling others how to play them!
-
Can I just ask where the huge outcry of shrieking "NERF THIS NAO!!!!!!!!! UNFAIR PLANE!" is for the Omaha, then, as it's obviously massively over-performing? A razor-sharp ship that is not only really good at destroying its intended targets (i.e. DDs) it's also incredibly strong against its fellows (goodbye any poor Furutaka that waddles into its path) & judging from anecdotal evidence (i.e. forum-based invective) manages to punch way above its weight against its alleged hard counter (raining HE down on battleships whilst dodging return fire). So why aren't there legions of whiners crying to nerf that ship? I know how difficult it is to fight an Omaha (they don't seem particularly afraid of aircraft, with their AA hull, either). I see them regularly top EXP & credit earnings in battles. As the stats support it--why no mass outcry of "NURF OMAHAHAHA NAO PLS!!!"? Why should the Minekaze be singled out just because it's an exception to the "rule" of "DDs deserve to be everyone's whipping boy & if they offer more than a minor inconvenience then they shall be nerfed as this is unfair"? Just FYI, I fecking hate Omahas.
-
Fixed that for you, mate.
-
That is actually a really good point, I'd go back to the Isokaze but then WG'd probably be on its case & nerf its detectability to like 10km or something...

Other things I have learned from the OP's incredibly informative series of topics:- 1) Paying for premium also does not guarantee you magically do enough damage to race to tier 10 in under two months! This is, apparently, a fault with the game. 2) He gets shouted at, in-game. A lot, apparently. Some of them light upon his nickname to direct their insults. Apparently, paying for premium does not guarantee you the right to magically do enough damage to stop people shouting at you. 3) ???? They probably don't throw as much money at the game so aren't allowed to whine report their feedback as intensely.
