[Rant] Ranked proves once more how screwed the meta is.
steviln replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
Yes, but it can be a bit annoying to see som german BBs fight a couple of North Carolinas at long range for most of the match. That does usually not end well for the german BBs. Also, if you have a Kutuzov in the match, camping BBs burn very well. -

We are just waiting for DDs to have their torpedoes removed. Then we will leave the map edge -
How to counter a DD HE spam in a battleship?
steviln replied to RayPall's topic in General Discussion
But why should they not whine? Since it really works? They simply whine and everything that annoy them get nerfed.- 96 replies

I actually think BB spam is fun. Most BB captains including me seem to think it is enjoyable to duel with other BBs, and as a DD it is fun to hunt BBs. -

Not really, if they make more people play CV again, I guess I rather play something else. The game wouuld be better without really. -

It depends on type of cruiser and how they play. if you meet cruisers stupid enough to do what their teammates want, such as hunting DDs, protect BBs and so on, cruisers are nice. If you however meet cruiser that consistently stay at maximum range and spam you with HE, it is not very fun. If the cruiser keep enough distance, they can be very difficult to get a decent hit on. -

On the other hand, playing BB and DD have become more fun with fewer Cruisers! It actually feels good to play a BB without being constantly HE spammed by three cruisers as soon as you moved toward the enemy. It is also more fun to pay DDs without those pesky cruisers lurking around everywhere. -

It is possible to survive quite a bit and make a lot of damage with cruisers, except the british one even if you are an average player. You simply stay behind the BBs, HE spam the enemy battleships and go in to make damage with torpedoes at the end of the battle when the survivers are more scattered. However, this will make your teammates go into a rage so you may lose because halt your team "afk" after having thrown their screen into the wall of rage because of your passive play That is the main reason I hate the british cruiser line. They removed the only tactic average or less players can use for large parts of the game in most circumstances. -

I do not think the battleships usually determine the outcome of a match. It rather seems that the side that manage to kill the other sides DDs first wins. At least in the battles I have been in. -
What if RN cruisers suddenly became very popular?
steviln replied to Admiral_H_Nelson's topic in Cruisers
Yes, it seems like they did not include HE on british cruisers since they "did not want to support that playstyle anymore". Just the same they said about stealth torping japanese DDS. What they propably have done is to look at the statistics, and found out BB players leave more cash in the game than players of other classes. It seems that a lot of players spent money to advance quickly to the Bismarck when the german BB tree came out and so on. It reminds me of another game from another company where four engine bombers loose both wings and catch fire after being hit by one mg bullet, after the people flying german fighters whined enough.... -
Game is boring below tier 5...at least for me...isn´t it a problem for WG?
steviln replied to Kamikazesushi's topic in General Discussion
I think they do it on purpose. They make playing a lower tiers either boring or you face ships two tiers higher, so you get frustrated and spend real money to progress faster thru the tiers. Propably so they do not end up like War Thunder aviation where most players simply does not bother with the highest tier. -
It seems that WG thinks that their lines are not "unique" enough if they are versatile. Like the UK cruisers have really no option against BBs or anything else at longer range. The russians CAs however can both HE spam at longe range, which they are best at, while also deleting cruisers at close range while spamming them with effective AP salvos. Think the russiand and british lines would be more even if the russian cruisers lost their AP shells and maybe their torpedoes also. Because it seems that cruisers now only suppose to be any good at long or short range, but not both?

I am not saying game should be easier for medicore players, but rather that it should be designed to be as fun as possible based on how the majority of players will use the ships rather on how a very good player would use them. The same goes for balance. It should be balanced based on average players rather than the best ones. The british tree in WOT is another example that a lot of people point to here. Another thing is that some people seem to expect a larger degree of teamplay than what is practically possible when strangers play with each other. In War Thunder your score and income are considerable less based on team victory and more on individual play that the WG games, and the War Thunder community is not by far as toxic as the WOT community.

Yes, I see you like to play around with non native english speakers not chosing the right words... I was not referring to that the average player to the largest degree effect the outcome as "who wins", but how battles are mainly played out. If a game is dominated by BB camping that is usually because of average players being afraid to get sunk rather than good players. Yes, this is an arcade game, but it is still good to have some connection to the theme. Like WOT was thematic at the start, but now it have gotten so dominated by fantasy tanks that often it would not be physically possible to construct in real life, that it feels more like a fantasy mech game. I fear that WOWS is going the same direction, and since the "other east european company" is not going to make a ship game, it is more difficult to find somewhere else to go.

It is rather you that seems to be unable to read what I write. I would not mind having a line with those characteristics, but not the main RN cruiser line. Also, such spesicalist ships would be better for a premium or two, rather than an entire line. I prefer that the speciality have something in common with the historical characteristics of the ships, and the RN ships were rather the oppositive of what they are now.
-
Actually, I think that not very good players like me know more about how the game feels to the majority of gamers. i seems obvious that a lot of stuff as these new RN ships, works fine when in hands of players a lot better than average, but get completely useless compared to the other tech trees when handled by average or medicore players. Since most of the playerbase are medicore or even below average, it is how they handle a ship that affect the games to the largest degree, rather than how the best players handle them. Also, having an opinion about the game and its relation to the theme is not something that have anything to do with the skill of the player. The problem with russian tech trees are not that they are not good, but that they include lines of mostly paper ships while so many actual ships are not included in the game. Russia during WW2 was less relevant to naval surface warfare than Italy were to tank warfare. My problem with the RN is not that they cannot be used for anything, but that their style is unthematic. As the RN CLs really were the opposite of specialist ships.

KILL THE CHAT - WG INCLUDE THIS IN NEXT PATCH
steviln replied to xER0h0UR's topic in General Discussion
On the other hand, a group of DDs can easily dispatch a single enemy DD and can cap the zone so fast it gets difficult for the enemy to prevent it. This especially true when you have three DDs in a squad. -
Yes, that really was relevant... I do not see the relevance to the fact that a lot of people play ships that are not from their nation in this game? Why do people from countries like Italy, Canada, Sweden or other play this game at all? Since there are no ships from those nations in this game I mean?
-
I am not british. It seems that russians fails to understand that most players are really not just interested in playing ships from their own nation! Some players are actually interested in playing the nations that had considerable surface navies during WW2.
-
Yes, it is a bad thing that people actually interested in the theme, naval warfare, have an interest in the game and have an opinion of it. But thankfully, there is another game without a single russian ship.... Might as well go there.

KILL THE CHAT - WG INCLUDE THIS IN NEXT PATCH
steviln replied to xER0h0UR's topic in General Discussion
The problem is that the players do not know how the other players skills are or how they have chosen modules and captains skills. If you have a medium skilled Kutuzov player, he may do much more use staying in the back and do over 100k damage to enemy BBs by fire, rather than try to hunt DDs and be killed within a few minutes. Also, my experience is that sending everything to one cap at the start may be a good idea. When people spread out the DDs to all the caps, they very often gets killed early for one reason. I would rather claim that it may be a usable strategy to start everyone in one end, and then work their way from cap to cap. -
But then again, the damage a Cruiser do to a battleship is to a large degree fire damage in the first place.

Or maybe they lose because they get distracted by some [edited]trying to tell them how to play the game all the time? -
Yes, but she is still better as a HE spammer, as she every easily get killed if enganging enemy at short range, and her greait weakness is the midrange performance I think. The problem however is that she and other russian cruisers are good both as long range HE spammers and short range AP spammers, thus making them much more usable than the british ones.
