But the Zao is not very effective against other cruisers, and especially a Des Moines or Minotaur can totally wreck a Zao at close range.

I was thinking as a theme and not specific games. If you add the players online for WoT, WT grouns force and Armored Warfare, and compare that to te total of WOWS and Steel Ocean, the difference become much more extreme.

Could be an interesting question why? Why are tanks so much more popular than planes and ships? You do after all have two healthy tank games and another one that struggle along. While it seems that only one ship and plane game can be successful at the same time?

But I never whined about the Shima torpedo soup. I rather played a lot of american DDs during that period. -

It depends on why they leave though. Do they leave because to many BBs, or are they tired of waiting for the british BBs? I think there may be a problem that the last three new lines have either been very controversial like the RN cruisers(they seem to have finally been accepted by the playerbase after the ranked season) or mostly ignored like the french cruisers or german DDs. My impression is that player numbers spiked when the german BBs were released. I think the best answer is some kind of different game modes, where the excess BBs are taken out into Jutland style slugmatches without CVs. I must agree with @mtm78 for once, if I have understood him correctly, is that the problem is the number of BBs, and not that they are to strong as such(by maybe at tier 8 the BBS are a bit OP?). I think to somehow seperate the different kind of players from each other is the best way forward to the game. -

It seems that the interest for a naval game is less than for a tank game. We have two good tanks games with healthy playerbases for several years plus one more with a few players. However there seem to be room for only one each for a ship game or plane game. -

The main difference is that WoWp have a competior almost everyone deem superior, while the only competition to WOWS is crap. mtm78, on 29 May 2017 - 09:51 AM, said: Just as believable as "I don't think the game should be balanced, BB meta is good for the game, more people love BB meta and thus it's good design"? If yes, I made my point I admit I do not have the data to give a definitive answer to those questions. But I do notice that clueless BB players compromise a very big portion of the playerbase and WG seem to cater to them all the time. -

Yes, that really sound believable. Especially since I barely played anything else than cruiser the last few months. -

El2aZeR, on 28 May 2017 - 11:03 PM, said: The spending power of your "faction" probably comes nowhere close to that of the core playerbase. Fact remains that WG is going to lose a lot of money. I doubt that. They must have done some kind of research that show otherwise, or they would not have acted like they do. I think the fact is that the "ship lovers" are more loyal since they really have no other place to go, while the "core playerbase"(betatesters?) might as well play COD, EVE online or WoW instead. I think they simply concentrate on the playerbase that will be most loyal in the long run. mtm78, on 29 May 2017 - 05:09 AM, said: Wait for the Teaboo's BB's, it will be glorious! I think they are holding them back because of the cryser whining. Thus resulting in harming interest in the game since only tech trees where interest in is low are released. I love the french cruisers myself, but interested in that tree as german DDs seems to be very limited from the general playerbase. -

But if the players that spend most want more carriers and more cruisers, why do WG act the way they do with buffing BBs directly and indirectly over more than a year? -

It depends on balance of what. Imbalance in the effectiveness of the classes: No. Imbalance in the number of ships in the game: Yes. -

And why should everything be so much more fun with lots of cruisers? Except dealing with CVs long range duels between cruisers are my least favourite part of the game. HE spam everywhere and not much fun to play DDs. El2aZeR, on 28 May 2017 - 10:13 PM, said: So? Does that change somehow that WG is going to lose massive amounts of money? Lose money on what? -

It seems that people that "love ships" or "love tanks" will put up with quite a bit. And what is so extremly unbalanced in this game anyway? -

But I think these games have a tendency to attract a rather "special" gamerbase. It is my impression that the ones who complain are the "normal gamers". Are you really denying that this game have a problem with different parts of the playerbase wants the game to develop into opposite directions? -

But War Thunder seems to have replaced their core players quite nicely. The reason being that military history fetishists like me does not notice the faults that you good players are complaining about. The bad reputation they spread did not kill that game yet. -

I simply have no data to reliably determine how large each faction of the playerbase is. However, when we see how BBs are pandered to, it seems that WG think that the BB fetishists are an important part of the playerbase. -

Not really, but some of them are. It is just as delusional when you try to pretend that they do not exist. I also have the impression that a lot of the really poor players are among that bunch to be honest. It seems to me that everything would be better if Gajin also made such a game, so that like with WT and WoT the different parts of the playerbase would split more naturally. -

But it seems that this game have attracted a lot of players that are not typical "gamers" and therefore will not listen to those people anyway. I think this game is better of being a bit slower than other arcade games, exactly because it gives it a niche of its own. -

It depends on who WG makes the most money of. Judging from their latest action when it comes to balance, it seems the people that like the BB heavy meta spends more money than the ones that hate it. -

But even if it is a team game, it is also different degree of teamwork. I simply want a bit less teamwork than the CV lovers want. And teamwork can have other forms than doing the lemming train. My problem with CVs are not that they are OP(they really are not on higher tiers), but that they promote gameplay which I find less enjoyable. And I almost exclusively play cruisers and I have not complained that they are underpowered, have I? -

I think it was implied that Earth Alliance traded some of their telepaths for Shadow technology, but think it was never clearly revealed. Great show though
