I myself I'm going to use active non compliance. I will not be told how to express myself and will continue to down vote posts that I feel need downvoting. I will quote the post and simply reply "-1"

Very simple solution WG. Just disable the ability to neg rep WG posts, we'll tell you what we think, you'll ignore us anyway but we get to keep the current system and you can continue to bury your head in the sand and pretend everything's OK, simples.

So this forum doesn't want it, that forum doesn't want it and on that forum Ectar is bitching that the community doesn't give feedback and only negreps, How clear would you like this feedback to be Ectar? The reason people don't comment and only negrep is not because of the negrep button, it's because YOU DON'T LISTEN TO US. And before you come back with your stock answer that forum feedback is only a very small thing and not the only feedback, that isn't going to work this time. Forum feedback is the only feedback that matters here because this only effects forum users.

Not biting and not particularly upset, just don't see why the Gay reference was needed in the first place. Pride day pink boats is the title, this is because he knows if he said "Gay pink boats" the thread would have been locked straight away, so basically this is a backhanded insult, Gay = Bad. Agreed. While you can collect positive votes for some pretty trivial things, having a very large number says a little more about you, I'm of the opinion that you don't get to 1000 rep points just by being trivial. It is a shame that people with a large positive number will have that small achievement wiped out with nothing to replace it. I know Ectar in particular is pretty scathing about the value of positive rep but it's not for the likes of him to decide whether it is valuable or not, that's for forum users to decide whether they need to maybe weigh someones opinion more seriously based on they're rep, and I'm sure people do. I'm on the fence a little about the changes themselves but what I'm definitely not in favor of is the implementation of them, once again WG are imposing changes on the forum regardless of how the users feel about it. We are constantly told that our feedback is important and listened to, that WG care about what they're customers think but we see little or no evidence of that.

And we have the timing. You announce that your going to do this on a Friday afternoon and that it's going to happen on Monday, we know you guys don't interact at weekends, doesn't leave much time for meaningful discussion does it?

Lot of guys here who couldn't agree on the color of poo if they're life depended on it, yet all agree this needs more thought and yet your still determined to bang on regardless? Just for once it would be really refreshing if you dropped the mask and tell it like it is, you don't care what we think because your always right, we're always wrong and you know whats best for us.

True and I can see the desirability of that from your point of view, however I'm thinking of a different situation. Take a well known troll, lets say his name begins with "A" He posts some laughable nonsense and the the current reaction would be a flurry of neg reps. Now take that option away and one of two things are going to happen, people will ignore what he says and the thread will die a natural death on page 3 with a couple of hours or your going to get a thread where scorn and derision is poured on him verbally. That last possibility wont look good and will probably increase the mods workload alot, doubt they'll thank you for that.

Mmmmm not sure what to make of this. I think that limiting the negative votes did a good job of stopping it becoming a "weapon" and anyone with a massive negative rep had got it fairly as they had a wide range of people willing to use they're limited neg reps on what they were saying, it showed the true strength of feeling of the broad forum base on any particular subject, pointed out obvious trolls who were better ignored and worked well. If people cannot neg rep then you're right, they will have to post instead but whether your going to like what they post instead of neg reping is questionable and it's equally questionable that it will make this a friendlier place, in fact I'd have thought the opposite is true. Undecided on being able to see who "likes" things, In one way I think that maybe if your expressing your approval then you should be willing to put your money where your mouth is but equally this is also an erosion of privacy and I'm never really a fan of that, perhaps the option to choose would be good?
