You can argue that all day but at the end of the day it wasn't called a "Pocket Battleship" for no reason. Heavy Cruiser, commerce raider, pocket battleship, whatever, it was a "Capital" unit and the three English ships were not. Same principles apply.
-
That's exactly what used to happen, Battle of the river Plate? 3 Royal Navy light cruisers basically charged Graf Spee in order to close the range, split her fire and try to put her down. To stay at long range where the BB has the advantage is suicide. This is a team game and your cruisers and destroyers should be trying to keep theirs of you whilst you engage at longer range. There is a problem atm in that we only have IJN BB's and they're long range gunnery seems to suck, so I'm holding off on my opinions as to whether BB's are worth the effort until I see German or British capital units.

Great little ship and very dangerous at short range, need to be sneaky with it.

100% agreement from me, Surely they have far more important things to do?

First off I'd like to say that I'm quite happy with today's patch overall, I think being able to buy premium kit and get given it twice (once for CBT testing and then again after the wipe) is a good idea, WG make a bit of cash, I get to test stuff and when the game goes live I can start again and make different choices on how to spend those tokens. I'm going to dip in and out of this thread, I'm going to play some stuff and then come back with some observations while it's fresh in my head. First off the Albany. It's not too slow but ain't that fast and that's OK, the guns fire fairly quickly and that's OK but the kicker is the range. I know that premium ships need to have some kind of flaw but a range of 6K? Not good at all. Just about everything in T2 and absolutely everything in T3 can easily out range you. Now my problem with this is that this is a T2 premium ship, so entry level, lots and lots of new players who need to learn to play the game are going to buy this ship and what are they going to learn? To rush in at top speed in a desperate attempt to get those 4 guns shooting and get themselves killed is what they are going to learn. Some will quickly figure out that your going to have to skulk about abit and ambush the unwary but most won't. The 6K range on those guns is too much of a flaw and a better idea would be to give em an extra K of range and increase the reload time, maybe make it slightly less manoeuvrable as well maybe? The Simms. What a fantastic little ship! Nice and fast with good manoeuvrability, fast firing guns (good range of 12K on those) in relatively fast turning turrets and fast torps (62 knots) BUT only a 5.5K range on those and I guess that's its flaw. Still at T7 a player should be used to short American Torp ranges and be used to playing accordingly. Seems to be a good credit maker too. Aurora. Played the St. Louis? Course you have, played the St. Louis then basically you've played the Aurora. Fun T3 ship that can just pour on the pain at mid/close ranges, low tiered DD's beware. Yubari. Odd one this. 6K range on the torps sucks, unusual for an IJN. Plays more like a big DD then a cruiser, guns are inaccurate and lack punch, turret speed is not bad but not good either, not really seen the AA at work yet but I'll report back on that. Speed and manoeuvrability are excellent and despite the above seems a fun ship to drive.

As the title says. In the equipment screen if you hover over the fire control icon you get the description for the Torps, hover over the Torps and you get the description for the Main Battery and hover over the Main Battery you get the description for the fire control. Bit of a mix up

Impossible to say really, these ships will not be available again for a year apparently, so if you don't buy now you might not see some of them ever again or they might be common things in the tech trees in a year, who can tell? The American DD, The Simms is worth it, fun capable ship. The IJN Yubari seems like it could be fun, I need a few more games and the Russian the same. To give an idea of credit earning potential:

I've just played 4 games in the Cleveland and the worst result (1 win, 2 loss, 1 draw) got me 196,000 credits and 1500 experience, the best result was 260,000. So I'm not seeing where your coming from matey.
-
I need to play it a few more times to get a feel for it I guess, but I just also got a Cleveland so you can imagine what's getting played lots atm
-
Have to agree with the OP. Just got the Aoba and wow, what a massive disappointment, in no way shape or form a match for the Cleveland and has trouble dealing with the Omaha. Something is wrong, either the Cleveland is very, very OP or the Aoba is in the wrong place. Those torps are in no way a balance to the sheer savage gunnery that a Cleveland can kick out.
-
Agreed, I liked that you saw what you actually made
-
Good ideas all, anything that promotes team work is no bad thing, I think that teamwork is even more vital here then in WOT, no matter how great a player you are here it will be very, very hard to carry by yourself.
-
I am looking forward to testing the premium content, hopefully the inclusion of a new ship means we are going to do this soon. I am finding the lack of slots very limiting.
-
Yep, at the end of the day big guns are big guns and and at short range you can hurt anyone.

Lol someone voted no!

I play on a 3 year old HP Pavilion DV6 with a quad core AMD processor and it handles it just fine.

I do not want XVM for this game or anything like it.

Carrier matchmaking - Unfair & various Carrier balance issues
Aldramelech replied to AlexeiCrimson's topic in Archive
I think some (not all) of these problems are a part of this being a closed beta, with a limited player base I'd guess we have a place holder MM'er in place atm to get people into games. If full MM as envisaged was in place I'd also guess you'd be in a queue for ever. That addresses the number of carriers per side anyway, the other issues are more game balance then MM issues. -
OK, this is a Beta test, that's limited players, the Match maker does what it can to get you a game. Your not technically here to play for fun, your here to test the game shipmate. I very much doubt the current MM will stay the same when we get the full game, there will be plenty of players and lots of other T3's out there so it won't need to. Chill.
-
Yep, whatever the reasons for it, it's there and it's less then ideal for the BB's. Lets hope it's something that can be fixed before the game goes "live".
-
Yep, I get this too, I assume it's like the WOT spotting system, the farther you are from the target, the less times the server updates the position. This is supposed to be fixed soon in WOT, I'm hoping it'll get done here too.
-
I was wondering when and if we get to test the premium content in the game? There are several premium ships that I would like to take out and also I'm finding not being to purchase port slots quite limiting, as I progress I'm having to sell everything to free up slots and I have to leave the commanders behind. I'm guessing there will be a "wipe" of some sort at some time, why not test the premium features now and wipe em before open beta?
-
And being tested by a handful of alpha testers over a limited period of time constitutes a valid test? And I did use the search function and it came up with a bunch of smug, glib answers like yours, which is no answer at all. I'm here to test, I want to test EVERYTHING.

We are very early doors here with this game and as time goes on there will be changes, are Torps to powerful? well time will tell but I have to say the game is fun atm, that's an important part sorted right there, WOWP's was never fun in the way this is, so changing things needs to be considered very carefully. That other game on the market that does tanks and planes started out as fun and now is completely ruined and unplayable, it would be a shame if that happened here because people tinker for the sake of it.
-
I can see your point, from an historical viewpoint Torps should defiantly be limited, however, game balance and game play also have to be considered and this is a game after all. The balance between game and simulation is a fine one and if you go too far you'll end up with something that is just not fun to play. I'm only up to T2 so far but I'm having lots of fun and that is a big tick in my box.
