Both has been mentioned in my post, just not in detail but I'm aware of this. SHOULD I HAVE WRITTEN EVEN MORE TEXT? Give me a break, nagger. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
aboomination replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
My division mate (we play together since 1998) isn't available for probably a week and I'm not very fond of making "new friends" ingame. I was a very busy raid leader in LotRO and I just like to keep social commitment at a low level in WoWS. Sure - if I had skilled division mates I would enjoy the game more but friendship is magic, too For the haters -
PROS and CONS of each line for each nation?
aboomination replied to puddlee's topic in General Discussion
Lines I recommend (very small amount of pain) (1) IJN cruisers Beginning at tier 7 I consider them easy mode (it's been too long since I played their lower tiers) - just manage your positioning and your visibility time, spam this ridiculous strong HE and start fires left and right, disappear because of your great camo and watch the world burn. They still have a learning curve and profit greatly from 15+ skill point captains but because of their stealth, frontal armor and hard hitting HE they seem quite forgiving to me. Their torp arcs require getting used-to but their torps are among the strongest in the game. Imo the easiest and strongest line of cruisers overall. Oh, their AP isn't half bad, too. Good shell arcs and speed makes leading targets very manageable. Only downsides I see are turret rotation speed (slowest of all cruiser lines) and gun range (in general they have the second worst effective gun range, with USN cruisers being the worst in this category). Both downsides are still good enough to not cause real pain, tho. Gun range improves greatly at high tiers. Zao is considered to be the strongest t10 cruiser, even after several nerfs. (2) USN DD Lethal DD vs DD brawlers, mid range harasser (from smoke mostly because they have to get quite close), high tier swiss army knife (there they gain the ability to stealth torp). All the way through they are relatively close 2nd in regards to stealth so they can contest caps and bully their way through with their low-mid range high dpm guns (their shell travel time makes them ineffective at ranges above 10km against agile targets). (3) Soviet cruisers Long range support ships that suffer when they get focused down because some of them lack agility and most lack armor - mostly low caliber HE slingers with "meh" chance to start fires but the amount of shells make up for that. Just unlocked the tier 8 and stopped because of ingame missions. Tier 8 and 9 look just like more of the same. Москва finally gets an all-around package of workable armor, meh AA, good AP/HE, agility. Really pain-free up until tier 8, second best t10 cruiser according to stats. In general the best flattest shell arcs/speeds of all cruiser lines. Can't hide behind land masses and harass so it instead has to stay at range and snipe. (4) Soviet DD They are light cruisers - they don't really do DD things like being stealthy, contesting caps on their own and throwing torps around. But they are fast, quite agile (worst maneuverability of all DD lines in general) and their guns are supreme. They stay at range, they make themselves bad targets and they spam their pew-pew guns. Also they like giving enemy DDs heart attacks since they counter them really well but have to be sneaky about it because they are seen miles away while other DD lines are stealthy af. In their spare time they prefer setting BB and cruisers on fire and scaring whole flanks away. Strongest cruiser line in disguise with very few stinkers if any. A lot of people seem to play them like DD thus they are good stat padding ships - like DD in general (because of quite some skill ceiling and their punishing nature if you make a mistake). Sometimes you will eat crap for not doing specific DD things when your team wants you to. Just like french heavy tanks. Shake it off and make them regret their words when they see that you finished first on the score board. Still I don't really recommend these as your first line of ships. But somehow I do. pee-[edited]: Last Stand is a must-have captain skill for all DD. Don't argue! (5) KM cruisers They are good ships that require more understanding of the game mechanics than soviet and japanese HE slingers because they are AP slingers (Yorck being the exception) with weak-ish HE shells. Solid line but neither the "best" nor the easiest with limited windows of opportunity (i.e. broadside targets) but can really punish. Good range, great AP, low to mid tier: Paper armor. High tier gets good AA dps. Really am enjoying the Yorck, currently at the Hipper and she's a bore-fest imo (solid). T9 is considered to be really good with invisi-fire capabilities. Tier 10 is considered strong, too. I'd say that this line is a solid choice. Very consistent line of AP snipers, that's it....ah well, I forgot German hydroacoustic search which is the strongest in the game, which is a very good thing. But most of the time I pick defensive fire (AA) anyway. What I don't recommend (1) Playing tier 5 longer than neccessary Tier 5 MM has been fu.cked quite well by recent MM changes. The opinions differ but I avoid playing tier 5s like Donald Trump avoids reason. (2) USN cruisers They aren't that bad but they certainly aren't winners (quite some "stinkers" in that line imo) and surely not noob friendly. This was the first line I played because I didn't know better. It teached me stuff, ruined my stats and now I have some great anti air captains/ships. If you want/need those AA capabilities, go for it (Atlanta, Cleveland, Baltimore and Des Moines being good at that). Only real advantage apart from that is that they can easily shoot/harass over land masses (brit CL will be able to do that too, as it seems) which requires map knowledge and more hassle in general than the other lines to make effective use of but can be really strong. Considered the weakest cruiser line overall. (3) CV They are a completely different game (mode) that doesn't appeal to me. It's like playing RTS. Also it's always a very clear 1v1 because of mirror MM and unlike what some others state CV gameplay requires a lot of skill. You can be a game winner or a game loser, CV can have quite the influence on that whole match. So playing CV "for fun" is...well, I wouldn't recommend it. Leaning to play CV will not prepare you for the other ship types in many ways - if at all. And there are only two CV lines in the game. Strong class nevertheless - utility value > 9000, skill ceiling >9000. I played around 30 games in CV and I am bad at it! Like really bad. I once manual torp-killed a DD with a cross drop and am very good at using fighters but that's about it. I suck at this! But the players with the best overall stats are still pure CV players, go figure. (4) Not learning to aim When I began playing WoWS there weren't any proper guides regarding aiming available on the webs. I was using 100% intuition but this didn't even suffice to let me see the skill ceiling. Nowadays there's proper information all over YouTube. Use it. (5) BB What? Why? Because atm I love playing my gun boats. But I played the most games in BB. Maybe that's why I have a hard time recommending them. They aren't as exciting to me as they were. Tho, the Bismarck is the first not-completely-high tier ship that has a viable secondary build so I'm happy in my pants for that. Yesterday RNG screwed me over by a factor of 1 millions dollars. I.e. I got 5k dmg out of 4 salvos at 4-5km at broadsiding cruisers with my Gneisenau and died to them. Later they told me to l2p. So cringy. But in general I do really well in BB. It's just that sometimes it's hard to punish really bad players with your big, fat hp pinata because battlesheeps are the class with the highest RNG factor. They sometimes feel like an arty in shotgun mode. Slow, with good armor. Like a Bishop! Lone BB are outmatched in regards to dpm, rng and (often) visibility. So you can be harassed, outplayed and left in the dust if the opponent wants to disengage. Don't be that terrible e100 driver. All BB until t5 are "meh" at best so that noobs aren't 1-shot that often. That's why cruisers, CV and DD shine at lower tiers and feel much more forgiving than at higher tiers. On a serious note - all three BB lines are viable and have their own flavor. (a) USN BB Considered the weakest line because of their questionable tier 10. In general best AA of all BB lines, good armor, slow like a slug until tier 8, good gun caliber, meh accuracy. Can be difficult to have the wanted impact because of the slow speed and relatively low gun range, again up until tier 8. Still not bad if you liked the t95. North Carolina is really strong but has slow shell speed so you can't sit back 20km behind the lines and be in reverse like 90% of NC drivers. Has really good citadel protection up close and one of the best bow armor in the game. Iowa is the fastest BB in the game with weak citadel armor and the same turret layout as the NC. So you gain speed for armor. I thought she was "meh". Montana is considered the weakest tier 10 BB but her DPM and broadside power is nothing to sneeze at. Cannot overmatch the bow/deck amor of any other t10 BB but can be overmatched by both the other t10 BB. Which makes her quite bad. Still like all USN BB since tier6 good AA. I r8 5/8 m8. Flavor: Having best AA is good but certainly not everything (ps: Can still be taken down 100 to 0 in one strike by a determined CV if you are out of position and he doesn't mind losing some planes). (b) IJN BB Low to mid tiers they out-range and out-speed their US counterparts by far. Tho, in regards to speed they now are matched by ze Germans. In general weakest armor, apart from Izumo (consider the Iowa squishier) and Yamato (holy hell). Decent AA but in general the weakest of all lines. This is the sniper BB line with quite accurate RNG cannons. Fuso is an RNG fest (shotgun) but makes up for this with 12 gun barrels. I don't know why but IJN BB are a bore-fest to me. That's why I'm stuck at Amagi for 8 months now. They are good, just leave it at that. Weakness: AA, Izumo stock grind (according to a friend of mine). But YAMATO (and Kongou (fuark, a tier 5 (see above), Fuso, Nagato, Amagi). Solid line! YAAA-MAAAA-TOOO. Flavor: Very honorable! Boring! © KM BB I'm only up to t7 now since that line came out recently. No stinker so far - all have good citadel armor but take penetration damage from everything that hits them because of strong overall belt armor that doesn't allow for overpens. So you're not prone of taking big chunks of dmg but are by no means invulnerable. Brawlers with armor that works best up-close and is vulnerable to long range high caliber plunging fire. Torpedos at tier 7 (and 8 if you want to buy a Tirpitz) which is fun. The guns are "meh" in regards to penetration and accuracy but have good dpm and turret traverse to compensate. So you throw enough crapat inferior nation's ships (stole that one) and some might stick. From t8 onwards they aren't half-bad even at sniping. I don't have the Bismarck yet but the Tirpitz is my most-played ship so I know her guns. My guess is that this holds true for tier 9 and 10. Tho, they have much less gun range than their foreign counterparts which seems ok, considering that they still have 20,x km reach. But can be frustrating for sure because high tier meta is campy/snipy in general. KM BB seem to have better long range AA than IJN BB so I'd say they take the middle ground here. From tier 8 onwards they get german hydroacoustic search which lets you spot ships and torpedoes from further away. One could argue that the t9 and especially 10 need that because they are the biggest thing on earth that isn't Donald Trumps lies. They turn like a t95 and are spotted from the ISS with ease. But again, haven't played them, yet. WEAKEST TORPEDO PROTECTION OF ALL BB all the way up to 10! Flavor: Turtle (their turtleback armor prevents them from receiving citadel hits at mid-close range). Don't really know, yet. stat-wise my best BB line but that's probably because I played the others as a complete noob. They are best up-close - the trick is to get up-close and not die trying. I guess this requires some experience. At least not boring like the japanese Lua Bar boats. Did I forget something? Ah, IJN DD...well, they sling torpedoes and rely on the enemy to sail in a straight line until they reach him. Not my cup of tea, really. -

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
aboomination replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
My greatest achievement today is not to die from a heart attack. This player base is rotten to the core. I have the feeling that those ***** want to test me. Think I've now seen the top 20 of "the most retarded ways to throw a sure win out of the window" in one day. A Fubuki that doesn't want to contest caps or spot for those in smoke bc "too risky" but reverses out of cover in front of a NC 2km away that has her turrets pointed his way 20 sec. before the end of the match and doesn't even have her torps reloaded ("only 15 sec cd left"). FU.CK! I need sunshine and rainbows now! -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
aboomination replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Literally lost in the last second because the CV decided to run into that corner 5 min before any ship got close and didn't leave when they were approaching from one side (his planes made his position obvious). I'm SO F**** tired of the teams today. If my thoughts could kill, this world would be very quiet tonight. FU.CK! Will I ever beat this "win 15 matches" mission? On topic: Met no forumites, that's a shame, too -
PROS and CONS of each line for each nation?

Smoke and islands + invisifire have to suffice But you can always beach your ship and pretend to be a whale. -

Just played my first Kiev game ever - OMG, this ship is good Toying with t7 cruisers and making them look silly...would've likely won if time hadn't run out (solo warrior was possible ) Was too passive the first minutes, tho and forgot to buy prem. consumables Now let's do this properly! edit: Done Sadly I was skillfully torped before I could farm their Taiho... Kiev is love! -

Why is the secondary armament on late tier US BB's so terrible?
aboomination replied to Riggerby's topic in General Discussion
I once got too deep into the secondary range of a Montana with my Benson. I didn't enjoy that! Also http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/60796-secondary-armament-totally-unuseful -
Did you already click on "Basic Training" by any chance?

So that premium noobs aren't just limited to t8, right? Also logic: The free xp required to unlock a ship line up until t8 is surely more expensive than 40€.

While everyone else thinks you're afk and plans his/her battle accordingly. I do the same but I always make sure to be visibly "there" to keep the spirits high.
