Worst and best coal ship you ever bought?
deathsadow replied to Dejzen's topic in General Discussion
Have you tried the Thunderer with the AP ? Its more fun than the HE spamming & the AP is great at doing regular pens to literally any ship , with way less overpen than any other BB i know. -

Guess its up to taste. I generally like SAP as an amo type and find it a bit OP, but i meet quite a few who didnt like it at all. but tbh i dont find any of the freemium ships bad , just some of them are not unique enough to justify the price ... but maybe i just havent tried the really bad ones ... i heard mostly bad comments on the Z-44 , Marco Polo and Gibraltar as far as i can recall, but i dont own any of them to verify. -
If you could manually aim those 2nd guns same as the main guns .. that would be brutally devastating in my opinion... so i prefer the current version.
-
I think it is a designed direct counter to that playstyle you mentioned, similar to the way how the 460s are anoying when you play a BB bow in. Those guns are mostly there to supress poorly armored ships within that range, and it is most effective in the late game where DDs and CLs are getting low with their HP. But on the other hand BBs of this kind generally struggle in the early game , due to their weak long-mid range performance, and their other drawbacks whic are related to them opting for 2nd guns on the modules and cpt, instead of main guns & sustain.
-
You need to actualy click for the manual 2nd guns to work & cpt needs heavy investment into it with at least 7 points which will be missing perks elsewhere. Also it can be countered with a DD easily , just pick dazzle , wiggle a bit and go undetected before the Manual 2nd guns build up the accuracy. The 2nd gun builds usualy are still not optimal for BBs other than the new German line ... but that line was purpose built to be played for the 2nd guns.

Well if it wouldnt be for the SAP it has i would totally agree, but due to the SAP its quite playable ... unlike the Friesland, that boat is the lowpoint for all my freemiums, due to being really boring and 1 dimensional. -
Do you specialise into the camo ? Or run it with the Stearing gear 2 ?

I feel like that too that this ship is just designed to lock down an area for larger ships to go. As for the build i have something like this on my mind, trying to layer wave after wave of torps with 20-25 sec delays into a key narrow area, and using the guns to just set fire ( pen seems lackluster anyways)... the last 5 points i dont know yet, but im looking towards the RPF for now to have easier time avoiding DDs.

Personally i wouldnt take any of the 2 as my 2nd RB ship, as im in the same state and decided for the Vampire II, but out of the 2 you are picking between the Druid seems a better option. Druid is an all gun AP only DD if you are confident in the Daring using the AP this thing might be a good pick. I havent bothered checking this ship much as the kit it seem to have is something what requires very high level of skill for gunboating, AP only, short ranged hydro not too decent camo, burst smoke and a heal, and also pretty slow ... it seems like a Daring who fully specialise into guns and really needs to know when to pick its fights. And most importantly probably out of my skill level, so i decided to go for the Vampire II as that one seems like a similar package with tools that are much more suited for my playstyle and skill level. The Sevastopol is just underwhelming in my opinion. It shares the hull with the Kronstadt but has way less hitpoints and got a really gimicky heal to work with , so i can hardly judge the survivability other than the fact that the bow offers little to not protection, but the belt when angled is prety good at its job . The guns are also not a big deal as they are similar to the T9 Siegfried, with russian flight times but less accuracy. Also unlike other soviet CAs it doesnt have a radar. The ship isnt bad , but if you compare it to the Stalingrad its pretty much all around inferior.

This eye in the sky perk was a great idea, it really helped with the Drake, as the 65 sec uptime is just good enough to land 4 long range salvo & the 105 sec reload is good enough to have it ready for most of the times when needed. I might even try that one out on the IJN cruisers too as this 2pt skill seem to bring quite some convenience to the spotter plane. As for the Sejong and Jinan , is it a viable build to fully build into the DW torps ? This smoke + small cal HE role is pretty much filled in already with the Smolensk which seem to have quite a bit better guns for this role and has a hydro too to make the smoke screen a bit safer to sit in.

The problem is that i cant really tell if it would make it better or not .. and i wouldnt bet a 3 Mill credit module swap on it, i hoped that someone here has some experiance with the UK CA line and give some answer to that question. Owerall i feel that the ship lacks utility which cant be fixed , but doesnt have enough dmg potencial to cover for that in the current way i play it. I hope someone can give some tips on how to set those ships up and what tactics work for it to be somewhat able to carry. Do you maybe have a setup which works for you ?

Yeah the armor is pretty bad , but same can be said about the Des Moines. Yeah probably that can help , sofar i just lob shells over some island as the ship doesnt seem to be good in anything else ( Medicore mobility , weak armor , floaty shells , no radar , no smoke ) , but the trouble is that this way i feel like im just being useless, i provide medicore dmg to low prio targets & offer 0 utility to the team.

When the plane is around it is fine .. but it takes an eternity on the planes CD. But than the reload is 18 seconds almost like some BBs .. is that a better option that way , or than the DPM will be a bad joke ?

“We can see a lot of people dont like subs, what do you want us to do?” - Ideas what WG can do?
deathsadow replied to Tanaka_15's topic in General Discussion
WG would prevent ramming subs as they did with subs proxy spotting each other. -

Musashi was the 3rd FXP ship ( Miso, Kron was before it) ... or maybe Nelson was even sooner that one im not sure on. -

F. Sherman is not so bad imo Best for me was : Thunderer, Smolensk Worst: Friesland ( or was it a waste of FXP ) and Yoshino ... that ship really has no purpose with Thunderer in port as that does everything better than Yoshino in exchange for the torps. -
Torpedoes are the least of the issue , with the gameplay what WG forced on my cruisers i hardly ever see any . The game is still very playable .. just WG really narrowed down the viable tactics to kite & HE sling.

Also there are players who division up and get ez wins with 70-90% WR , so those will need a pretty large amount of 47%-ers to even out. And also quite a lot of decent veterans in the game who has 20-30k games on 50-60% WR while most of the potatoes hardly have 2k games under their belt.... 20k player with 56% WR will cover for 20x 2k player with 47% WR.
-
But i guess in that case we need to add CVs to that mode instead of randoms too
-
Damn, as i can see from the submarine threads WG must be right with the "Silent Majority" ... the sub 48% players like the subs .. and majority of the teams in randoms are made out of them

The 30mm armor just got so obsolate in the last few years fro cruisers, it was intended protection when the BBs except for Yamato were running guns up to the 420mm caliber, and it was working as intended back then. Nowdays the mass spam of 457mm and above BB guns this armor have pretty much become worthless, and it is a pretty bad indirect nerf to cruisers, as even properly angled you will just get blaped due to overmatch. Before any BB which was not a Yamato could be bouncing on the side plating if you baited the shot to the angled side plating , 406s could still pen you in the bow if the BB actually aimed for it regardless of the angle on every cruiser, and even the 380s can do it on most cruiser with 25mm or lower bows... nowdays probably 4 out of the 5 BB in your match will run 457s ( Ohio, Georgia, Kremlin, Preussen, Vermont, Thunderer , St. Vincent) or higher ( Yamato, Incomparable, Shikishima , Musashi). Cruisers on T9-10 would need a plating buff to compensate for the mass amount of large cal BBs added, buffing the 30mm side platings to 32mm would equalize the field again. Yeah it would help vs the 152mm HE too , but the deck , the stern the bow and the superstructure would still be there to farm with the HE. Cruisers have been nerfhammered by WG for the past years, adding tonns of large cal BB and BCs rivaling cruisers in camo and speed, AFT BFT and FP removed with the cpt rework .. giving BBs the infamous Dead Eye ( God bless they removed it), adding DDs with CL levels of firepower but no citta , its time to get some buff to this underdog class. Just look at Ranked .. what % of players pick Cruisers ... far less than who pick BB or DD, which means that the cruisers are lacking in performance compared to BBs and DDs nowdays.

Yeah probably i overestimate them as they are my main ship type ever since WG added Stalingrad. Already with the increades pen angles i find it pretty easy to deal massive salvoes even to angled targets with it, but maybe im just overconfident in that type of ships power, anyways it would need extensive testing to find out how much it would boost the dmg taken , but i would expect that the internal armors would easily trigget loads of full pen from guns with 305mm and above on most ship I would expect resoults similar to hitting a Goliat or Henry IV with AP or in BBs case like Frech BB vs the 460s kind. Also what would be your trick to shells like the UK BB AP with the low treshold and short fuse ? Would you scrap that gimmick, or keep it ?
-
Yup, basically the rework would just mean that Smolly and Colbet could rain hell on cruisers without IFHE and they could IFHE pen the BBs , thats quite some buff to them with 21-22mm base HE pen and 26mm IFHE pen or the 1/8 pen would completly butcher their HE base dmg 13mm base 16mm IFHE so 19mm would be untouchable, but i guess that can be fine tuned tough. For the 305s im still a bit worried, i mean with Stalingrad accuracy you would have no trouble aiming for the cittadel area & even if you dont pen it you are still in for 3k dmg a shot regular pen with that 2.65 sigma , and the rest of the T9-10 305mm equpied cruisers except for the Kronsadt are also very accurate. I play those kinds of ships a lot so i wouldnt mind slapping ships for 10-15k regardless of angle, but i bet being on the other end wouldnt be nearly as fun, so i dont think a massive buff like this would be actually good for the game. The values you mentioned would be good for Bow and Stern platings , but for the mid sections that 38mm you mentioned for stuff like icebreakers would be a better plating. I would keep your numbers for the bows and sterns and all around for low tiers and i would go with the following for mid section and decks as a baseline: DDs: 15mm for Destroyers (overmtached by 220mm and above, even 90mm standard HE pen still) 25mm for Light Cruiser (overmatched by 380mm and above, 1st standard HE to pen is 152mm 1st IFHE 127mm) 32mm for Heavy Cruiser (overmatched by 460mm and above, 1st standard HE to pen is 203mm) 35mm for Battlecruisers (overmatched by 510mm, 1st standard HE to pen is 220mm 1st IFHE is 152mm) 40mm for Battleships (cant be overmatched, 1st standard HE to pen is 240mm 1st IFHE is 203mm) This would probably provide enough protection on the middle section to tank some dmg according to your class , while still enable easy pen trough the bow and stern or superstructure when the ship is angled.

Yeah that thing needs a buff , I literally killed more submarine with BB torps than i did with DD depth charges ( 1 with ship based depth charge , 2 with KM BB torps)
