Dive Bombers poor, All Planes too easily deflected by AA
ttchip replied to Healey3000's topic in Archive
You can choose to pay 22500 credits instead of 15 doubloons for the prem variant of AA barrage. You can demolish them just as hard if you're actually clever about baiting the ability and backing off in time. In high tiers, CV vs CA gameplay revolves around whether or not the CA player has the ability ready when the CV commits to an attack. Their damage is not great, no. -

He probably used AA Barrage. That skill dramatically increases the AA DPS of a portion of his AA and it causes planes to be more inaccurate. -
Can someone explain the points system please?
ttchip replied to AUTh0rity's topic in Newcomers' Section
In any case, the same number of hits does not necessarily imply the same amount of damage. This is particularly true once you start firing AP ammo as the amount of damage that ammo deals can differ vastly. -
Pensacola: Punishment for enjoying the Cleveland too much
ttchip replied to Bratwurst_Bob's topic in Archive
Loved the ship, played it with a full AA suite - just like its successors. The damage is roughly on par with my performance in Cleveland and it actually didn't increase for me at all as I went up the tiers. Here's my equipment and my captain (he basically had this skill layout for the past three ships because I'm still waiting for that 16th point for JoAT): Yes, he's called Charlie Brown. -
That would basically only give it the ability to panic stuff. It only has one DP gun that could benefit from the AA DPS boost provided by the ability. Not that I'd complain about getting the ability - it just wouldn't be THAT useful since its DP AA is pretty bad.

They never spotted much. What you can do with them is launch them when you're close to a corner. Hopefully, they'll fly over that corner and spot the occasional DD. This also goes for cat fighters.

Dev guide to fixing "WHAAA CV ARE OP PLZ NERF"
ttchip replied to JesusRaptorTank's topic in General Discussion
Plane spotting distance = distance at which planes get spotted Sorry if that came out incorrectly, though I'm pretty sure it was quite clear given the context. It also wouldn't affect DDs much apart from giving them more time to move out of the way. This is something I'd like to see first before they nerf the actual torp, plane and AA stats as it won't really change anything when people have no situational awareness. -
Myogi with the top hull gets it.

Should a BB be using AP or HE against cruisers?
ttchip replied to _x_Acheron_x_'s topic in General Discussion
It was not said because it's not worthwhile. If you have the option to fire at a CV, you might aswell try to kill it. AP does a magnificent job killing carriers through their incredibly oversized citadels. Torching carriers is a cruiser's business. -
As a CV player, how do you go about dealing with enemy Lexington?
ttchip replied to viceadmiral123's topic in General Discussion
You probably mean Lexington. -
First of all: The concealment upgrade lowers your detection range by 10% - not 20%. Secondly, as per this thread, the target acquisition equipment does not affect your spotting distance in any real way.

Oh I'm not blaming them for being stock, not at all. Doesn't make this kind of matchup any easier for me, though, considering that I'm once again in the only ship with good enough AA to combat that Taiho, meaning that I'm forced to do roughly 46 things at the same time. Speaking of which: That Taiho was so incredibly bad, it took them roughly 17 minutes to end this travesty of a matchup.

Let's just say that I'm a bit miffed about this one.

Atago repairs for 60k whereas regular tier 8s cost 100k.

Can someone please explain to me why CVs are OP?
ttchip replied to Multispec's topic in General Discussion
My point is: Top tier CVs are virtually never met on equal footing when it comes to AA, unless the opposing team has multiple ships of that tier. One tier Y CA does not compete favorably against a tier Y CV most of the time (it's never an all-or-nothing ordeal). For that to be the case with current ship stats, gameplay would have to be quite a lot faster and aggression much more effective. CVs suffer a lot when bottom tier, that is absolutely the case. Baltimores are nigh untouchable to Hiryus and Rangers, for example. DMs are much less extreme in that sense, since the spotting distance for planes in top tiers seems to be ~6.5km, meaning that DM does not get to use its main advantage, the ridiculous range, unless someone spots for it.- 90 replies

High tier AA nullifies CVs if you let it do that. You spot the CA before he spots your planes - absolutely nothing forces you to engage. There's also matchmaking like this: There was exactly one ship with enough AA to oppose that Taiho: Me. As long as I cannot be everywhere, this will not be an evenly matched battle. I shot down a grand total of five planes during that battle because the half of our ships I managed to protect never saw a single airplane. Meanwhile, the other half got obliterated by the CV while we got fudged by the rest of the team.- 90 replies

That's not how averages work. Statistics cannot accurately predict the outcome of every single match. On average, you and the enemy will have the same kinds of teams, though. Over a large enough samplesize, you will have to measure up against the average player. If you do well, you will have above average stats - including WR - because you tip the scale compared to your average opposite number.

IJN. It's not even particularly close.

Fantastic. -
Forum search nets you results such as this.

Neither his, nor Sharana's performance outside of carriers is anything to write home about. Heck, I outperform all of their BBs - even higher tiered ones - quite significantly in terms of average damage in my NY. That obviously doesn't detract in any way from their performance in carriers. With them being the flavor of the month, personally, I can't take it too seriously, though.

You can get >1500 average exp quite easily in high tiers. Play enough high tiers and it'll be your overall average.
-
Yes, it works on every gun of that caliber including your primaries.
-
There is a collision avoidance system and you can turn it off in the control settings.
