Prior to this latest patch there weren't but now there are.

Apart from thousands of footballers, rugby players, cricketers, professional poker players etc. etc. etc. I think you'll find that adults have "played games" since the dawn of time.

Which, given that this is a game and thus should be well balanced, is probably the best argument to date in favour of the removal of detonations. If there is going to be a dice-roll-one-hit-kill it should affect all classes equally (including CVs) but as it doesn't it should be removed.

There is not supposed to be an alarm if the torps cannot hit you. From patch notes 0.6.14: Torpedoes that will pass beneath a player's ship will be displayed as circle icons for that player. In this case, the sound notification and indicator of approaching torpedoes will not detonate*. [sic] *Typical garbled translation error. Prior to today there was no alarm but now there is which is quite annoying as audio cues are quite an integral part of video gaming.

I just experienced something in game that has never happened before. I just enjoyed a game of Epicentre on Tears of the Desert! Gotta say well done to the devs for (finally) making changes to this map.

I know. What can I say....?

Nope, he's merely enlightening us with his vast understanding of DD gameplay gleaned, as it is, from his 16 (yes that's ONE SIX) games played in the class.

@cherry2blost Did you screenshot your recent detonation after taking zero shell hits? It seems that posting it here would be appropriate. To those saying detonations are rare you are completely missing the point. Yes they may be a rare-ish occurence to any one player but they are common enough to affect the outcome of nearly every match. The only thing rarer than a personal detonation is a match without a single detonation.

So much this ^^. Obvious scam is obvious.

Why do people go the opposite from where they spawn?
xxNihilanxx replied to tappo01's topic in General Discussion
I have wanted to know the answer to this question for so long... It is definitely more apparent on maps like Two Brothers and Estuary as you can clearly watch people who spawn at A sail to D and vice versa. Always had me equal parts intrigued and annoyed. -

So WG, i thought this shouldnt happen?

I hope you told them that they were wrong as you'd had a shower before the match :) -
Well done, fella, happy for you!

Not sure how accurate it is but on the global wiki it is listed as a promo ship. http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:T-61 -
How peculiar. I was thinking about WiC only yesterday. Such fond memories of that game. In fact, iirc, WiC was the first time I got properly into online multiplayer gaming.

Before the match starts you should be checking the team list to determine what DDs the enemy has. The next step is to formulate a plan as to how you would deal with each DD should he go to the same cap as you. When the game starts keep this/these plan(s) in your mind as you approach the cap. If the Lo Yang is one of the enemy ships then (assuming an equal match with no support) you are favoured in the Benson at ranges from 5.4km upwards as you have the additional gun whereas he is favoured at ranges <5.4km due to the smoke and hydro trick. Also, always have a planned escape route in case your cap attempt goes south. For B on the Trident map the island at the western edge (from the point of view of your screenshots) provides an excellent escape route so you should have maybe attempted the cap on B from close to that island, facing west in case the proverbial hits the proverbial.* *Edit: Just noticed it was a ranked match so B isn't where it usually is so the island I was referring to is irrelevant in this instance.

Things are getting worst, u must change something

Two completely different scenarios as stated in my post. For some reason, when you quoted me, you missed off the opening line which made that clear. Argument for argument's sake, perchance? -

Trust me, decent DD players know when their torps are going to hit home and, quite usually, how many. In fact, most good players can look at the target ship's location and heading and be able to tell themselves if a torp spread is going to connect. Hence why I hold fire if I can see that about to happen. I'm not talking about torps fired in the general direction that are still 5-6km out from their target, I am talking about ships that are seconds from deletion. The target ship cannot possibly avoid the torps before they connect. I understand the point you are trying to make but as this is a team game there comes a point whereby we HAVE to rely on our team-mates to a greater or lesser degree. Playing for the team versus playing for personal glory is still the best way to secure wins, despite the fact that the game contains enough potatoes to fend off another Irish famine. -

While in most situations I would totally agree with you there are still aspects of "killstealing" that are totally detrimental to the game. The situation that comes to mind is based around DDs and torpedos. I have lost count of the number of times when my torps were on course to hit and finish an enemy ship only to see a BB waste a salvo on the doomed vessel instead of shooting at a nearby one that was not in danger of being torped. Worse still is when a CV wastes a full torpedo drop on a ship that was about to eat torps instead of a full-HP ship a little way away. A similar situation comes in the form of damage farming on ships that have torps heading in their direction. So many times I launch a great torp spread on an unsuspecting target only for half the team to start shooting at exactly that target causing an otherwise straightlining ship to turn and thus avoid deletion. I can hit F3 to call target on a ship and nobody will fire on it but launch torps in that ship's direction and the whole team decides to focus it. If I see a ship that looks like it will eat friendly torps I will avoid shooting at that ship for exactly that reason. I have even seen a team-mate shoot at a ship that was on course to be deleted by my torps, cause the target to avoid the torps and then get sunk himself by the enemy ship that he just managed to save. All for the sake of a few extra damage points. -
Displaying Emblems/Insignias after being sunk
xxNihilanxx replied to Aotearas's topic in General Discussion
In my opinion the whole patch/emblem idea is a useless pile of total toss. This is probably the most horrendous waste of developer time I have seen in any game ever (and I was playing WoW when the Celestial Steed was introduced). -
Not only does it look sexy as hell, playing the Scharnhorst is the most fun you can have with your pants on.

Looking at your profile, OP, I can see you are at the Emil on the French line so the De Grasse will make an excellent captain trainer for your grind as far as La Gallisonierre. Not so much beyond that as the De Grasse wants IFHE whereas the French line has 203mm from the Algerie onwards. It is, as stated before by others, probably the easiest for a newer player to handle. As far as the Duca goes it is a great ship that, while very squishy if caught side on (which cruisers aren't?) is actually quite tanky bow on. With CE you get your concealment down to 10.3km which, with its speed and amazing AP, means you can surprise other lone cruisers, popping up at close range and sailing towards them pumping AP into their side very effectively. It is also great at following your DDs to caps for some initial firepower support during the cap contest, though this is possibly not recommended if you are less than supremely confident in your cruiser skills. The Duca is also, and this is worth noting, currently the only cruiser in game that can mount hydro AND DefAA simultaneously. You will need a 14pt cpt though to do well as it does need CE and IFHE. The muzzle velocity is also amazing coming in at (iirc) 950m/s for your HE and 1000m/s for your AP.

Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
xxNihilanxx replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
No worries, mate, I always assume that if a fellow forumite doesn't respond to my hail that it is due to a chat ban. Bizarrely enough, I've never had one though not for want of trying ;) Was a good fight, I had to work my nuts off to avoid your torps. If there had been barnacles on my hull or an extra coat of paint on my ship I'd have been done for, I think. Always good to see you in battle. -
How would you improve the skill of player base?
xxNihilanxx replied to Rautainen_Biisoni's topic in General Discussion
You know, sometimes I wonder if it's even possible to improve the general skill of the playerbase in this, or any other game for that matter. Since gaming went mainstream we seem to have acquired what I lovingly call the "candy-crush generation" who have no interest in learning a game or improving their skills in any way. Today, for many, it seems that games are just there to herp-derp about for half an hour or so while they wait out the "recovery period" from their last masturbation session. Unfortunately it is these muppets that most current games are aimed at, much to the detriment of the industry as a whole. It's at times like this that I can't help but think of this oldie-but-goodie. Probably more relevant today than it ever was.
