How is a Farragut supposed to do well in a T8 game?
xxNihilanxx replied to FearsomeFlotsam's topic in General Discussion
It's a little old (it predates the inclusion of smoke screen timers, stealth firing nerf and smoke firing changes) but the basic ideas are still sound. Hope there is something there you can find useful. -
A little explanation for the new patch

Why do some people refer to sailing in formation as 'lemming mode'?

In that image the DDs attempting to secure B are not as much of a problem as the Des Moines and the Republique heading for A represent. Had the DM made himself uself at B his radar could have turned the tide of the cap contest. -

So what are you suggesting, that win rate is purely down to luck? Why is it, then, that some players are more consistently "lucky" than others? You obviously don't see the logic. You are new to this game. It doesn't mean you must be wrong but on this topic you most definitely are. You already have sufficient games to have an opinion, you have made that abundantly clear, but just because you have an opinion it does not therefore follow that it will be a correct one. In this case it is way off the mark. Experience could teach you that but, judging from your attitude, it will take a lot more games for you than for others as you are already convinced that you are right causing you to ignore the information being handed to you from far better players. When I was at your level of experience I kept my mouth shut and instead hungrily gobbled up all the information I could glean from those who had more experience and were able to use that experience to perform better at this game than I could. As I result I am slowly becoming one of those better players although, unlike you, I realise I still have things to learn and room to improve so I still pay close attention to the advice of those with greater success rates. Believing you already know it all is acting as a barrier to your progress and your results show that. So again, as a better player, I advise you.... stop talking and listen and maybe, just maybe, you will have a hope of one day being a benefit to your team rather than a burden. "Lemming trains" may work, maybe once in a thousand games. I don't know about you but I am not prepared to throw away 999 games for the sake of the 1 game where that tactic may lead to a victory. -

@Tempest_V_ You're wrong, totally wrong and, if we are really lucky, you will realise how wrong you are once you have more than a handful of games under your belt. Either that or you will continue to fail your way up the tiers blaming the rest of your team for your constant losses or you will quit the game citing bad team-mates as the reason. The fact that you think you can come new to a game, play a handful of matches, lose most of them and then suddenly decide you know better than long-term vets who successfully manage to win most of theirs demonstrates a level of audacity that is simply staggering in its magnitude. Stop talking, start listening and maybe, just maybe, you have a hope of one day being a benefit to your team rather than a burden. -
I won't address your arguments regarding realism aside as they are largely irrelevant in an arcade game but I will say this. As a general rule the success of any ship to ship torpedo launch lies more in the behaviour of the target than it does in the behaviour of the launcher. There are, of course, exceptions to any rule, someone going full yolo mode straight into you and torping at point blank range has a greater chance of success (assuming you cannot one-shot him on the way in) but even then it relies largely on the target allowing himself to become isolated from friendly supporting fire. When I talk about the behaviour of the target I am not talking exclusively about people sailing in a straight line forever, there are many factors at play. Learning the capabilities of the ships one might face, understanding the areas on the map where DDs are likely to operate, looking at the minimap and judging from ship positions where a DD might find a target rich environment and being able to anticipate that an attack may come in this area - these are just some of the behaviours that help to determine whether you, as the target, might be involved in a successful torpedo launch or a failed one. There is SO much more at play in this game than just pointing your guns at red ships and clicking the fire button. I see from your profile* that you have very little experience in destroyers, with only one played. The best advice that anybody could give to you in order to help you evade DD attacks would be to dedicate a bit of time to playing DDs of all nations. This way you will begin to appreciate the abilities of each DD and what is required to make successful attacks and thus, and this is key, illustrate to you what is required to evade same. Know your enemy. *Kudos, btw, for sticking to the lower tiers as a player who is self-confessed as not being too good at it. Not being great at this game will not cause you to be flamed on this forum, only unwillingness to learn will. Hope this helps in some way.

Help screw the nut with friendly CV captains
xxNihilanxx replied to Redcap375's topic in General Discussion
Well written piece although you will be pleased to know I already apply everything you said. Of course, it could all be rendered moot if you didn't bring a frigging CV into my match in the first place..... grrrrr. -
Well at least it's better than the "I'm in a BB and I don't want to be shot at so the back of the map looks like a good place to" camp.

Z-39, another premium passes the "WG balance" check
xxNihilanxx replied to viceadmiral123's topic in General Discussion
Yep, pretty much. You expected anything else from the WG balancing dept? This is WG where the only balance that matters is their bank balance. -

6.1km detection range 4.4km hydro vs ships but the caveat there is the smoke detect is 3.3km or 3.4km (can't remember exactly off hand). -

Ok, so I may have exaggerated slightly with 3 salvoes, depending on the HP of the Fubuki on initial contact, but it isn't far off. I find the guns to be pretty damned amazing on the Shino but I say that as someone who, like you, has been used to gunning down targets in IJN DDs since I first got the Minekaze. A lot of my success is, I think, down to the fact that people just don't seem to expect the IJN DDs to open fire with their guns and so it is quite easy to sucker them into a stern chase. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?

Wait... the Shinonome was complaining about you not being able to kill a Fubuki? The SHINONOME? How was there even a Fubuki alive on the enemy team if your team had a Shino - that's, what, 3 salvoes from the Shino guns? Shino lunches on Fubukis. Some people...!?!? -
I try similar tactics. I spend the first few moments whilst moving towards caps etc attempting to suggest a strategy and also, time allowing , to explain why. It hardly ever works but when it does it tends to be a roflstomp win. Personally I struggle to understand the lack of teamwork in this game as when it occurs, especially between "randoms", it is one of the most rewarding feelings this game can produce. Another trick I have developed, which you may or may not wish to try, is to check the team list for enemy radar cruisers and announce in chat at the start that I will award +1 karma point to whoever kills it/them with a bonus point offered for killing hydro DDs. Of course I make sure I stay true to my word and so I often run out of my 11 comps.

In the grand scheme of things, nothing on Earth matters. We are insignificant specks on an insignificant speck orbiting an insignificant speck that in itself is just one of a huge cluster of insignifant specks rotating around the centre of yet another insignificant speck. The mistake you are making is that you are assuming that the amount of significance you apply to this game is the correct amount of significance and anyone who places greater significance on it is wrong to do so. We all hold different things at a different significance. Assessing an individual's qualifications to make a statement is an incredibly sensible way to assess the validity of that statement. -
BB player endures constant fire damage and asks for advice rather than calling for a nerf to HE? What is this sorcery?

Sick to death of the royal wedding? Couldn't give a flying fcuk about some posh twit getting hitched? Why not come and shoot some ships with us? We don't have bunting but we do have banter. Hey look, boss, I'm being all topical n crap.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
xxNihilanxx replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
One of those awful matches where a CV waits ages in the queue and we get four players per side. Our CV (I bet it was him that waited ages) sucked hard and I had planes over me the whole time. What to do? What to do? After that match I had to go eat a whole bottle of Valium. -
So i thought i'd give this game another go.
xxNihilanxx replied to Hannibalurg's topic in General Discussion
You do understand that the proliferation of DDs in this game is a direct result of the proliferation of BBs being played? High numbers of BBs make it very difficult to operate in a CA/CL and so, as hardly anyone plays CVs, if people want to have fun playing anything other than BBs then they tend to gravitate towards DDs. In this case you are part of the problem and certainly not part of the solution.- 53 replies

WG's attempt to counter camping BBs? New game modes in ST.
xxNihilanxx replied to Tungstonid's topic in General Discussion
The issue is that with these proposals they are changing the game for every class and not just BBs. If there is a problem with one class then make changes to that class and leave the others as they are. Simples. On the actual topic of the proposed changes themselves - WG you are being too gimmicky again and further losing sight of what makes this game fun. K.I.S.S. -
Nor should you be expected to, HOWEVER, watching some vids on a ship you are about to spend a load of money on just seems like common sense. Ah well, you live and learn (or in this case all the enemy ships around you live because your guns can't hit anything).

When even the CC's know you are ignoramuses, you know you're headed for the trash bin
xxNihilanxx replied to Azrael_Ashemdion's topic in General Discussion
That is one of the parts of WG "logic" that I just cannot get my head around. They have a tendency to "fix" things that were never broken (the division window change screams at me for this one) and ignore the things that are. When they do make changes they seldom, if ever, revert them if they turn out to be duds. (Again - division window) On the face of it the decision to allow the top loser to retain a star was a laudable one. The idea being that someone who worked there 'llocks off trying to carry a crap team should not be punished because he got stuck with a load of players with the combined incompetence of, well, the WG design team was a good one on papaer. However it rapidly became clear that this was not what was happening. Feedback from the first season of its implementation showed that it was just encouraging the "mongs" to camp harder and farm more. Great idea but didn't achieve the desired effect. At that point WG should have gone back to the drawing board. Did they? Did they phuq! No instead they just left it as was and carried on with their obsession of changing things for change's sake. (Like the frigging division window).
