You kinda get used to ContraryMary in the same way that you get used to a stone in your shoe - you learn to ignore it though it remains a minor irritation.

Boring endless grind stages for Cossack
xxNihilanxx replied to Praetorias's topic in General Discussion
Yea, not that that mission is ever needed to complete the directive in the same way that the Cossack/Le Terrible isn't needed. -
OK, I am probably being really dumb here but I opened a Halloween pumpkin container today (reward for the RN directive) and inside was something that said Svyatozar - Chapayev. I asked my clan mate on TS what the hell it was and he told me it was a perma-camo for the Chapayev. I checked my Chappy and looked at the camo section but I cannot see any perma camo there apart from the option to purchase the standard one for 3000 doubloons. I checked my missions in case it turned out that it was a mission for the camo but it wasn't. Anyone know what is going on?

Ideally, yes. Oh I don't bother with those, too much of a pain in the arse (literally).

Thank you. See @cherry2blost, he knows ^^

Yea, like that's gonna happen any time soon.

Boring endless grind stages for Cossack
xxNihilanxx replied to Praetorias's topic in General Discussion
The RN directives are awesome because they don't disrupt play style, as you put it, at all. There hasn't been a single one so far that has required anything other than just playing the game normally to achieve.- 70 replies

Server Overload warning for ranked games

It lasted about half an hour last night before we could get in again. -
Server Overload warning for ranked games
xxNihilanxx replied to putinisalittlebiatch's topic in General Discussion
It is the same in randoms and it happened around this time last night too. I think it's just a case of WG trying to run their game on a load of Commodore 64s strung together with parallel cables. -
The thing is I knew of that option, hence having all the silly camos turned off. I am dumb for not working out that was the reason.
-
Thanks mate, that's exactly what it was. Told you I was being dumb.

Well stop being toxic on the forums, then. For the most part we have quite a nice, friendly little community here. Occasionally we get a-holes turn up and throw their weight around but they tend not to last long, either becasue they leave or get year-long bans or whatever.
-
That's what I suspected. As far as I know it was set up before clans were introduced and I guess the introduction of clans rendered it redundant.

Does the forumite in-game chat channel still exist? I never used it so don't know but maybe someone who did use it could let us know?

Oh, absolutely they deserve it, however, I still think they should have radar removed due to prevalence more than anything else. That and the fact that, despite WGs biased classification, the Kronstadt and Stalingrad are essentially battlecruisers and should therefore be classed as BBs not CAs and, as such, there was no justification to give them radar in the first place. In the case of the Staligrad it would also help to balance that monstrosity, especially in clan wars, as taking one would then mean one fewer radar ship available.
-
There is no radar below tier 7 and yet the games at lower tiers. when no radar is in game, are some of the most dynamic matches. Regardless of whether you like radar or not it is incredibly difficult to argue accurately that radar doesn't increase passivity. It does, by its very nature. It isn't the sole reason for passivity at higher tiers but it is definitely a contributing factor. DDs don't roam free torping anything they like at the lower tiers and, as you well know, use of WASD hax can make you almost invulnerable to torps and is even built into the game. Radar isn't your only protection against DDs, as lower tier matches show. Without radar your best protection against enemy DDs are your own DDs. Support them well and keep them alive because the team that best supports its DDs most usually wins. As we all know, WG have given players more and more protection against DDs since the game began. If people are still getting torped despite all those additions then it is their own fault. Let's face it, if a BB player came to the forum saying that DDs should be removed because he kept getting torped by ships he couldn't see then you would tell him the same. As I have said countless times I don't actually mind radar, in moderation. The problem has arisen since WG started putting it on too many new ships. At the very least it should be removed from the US CL line, the Stalingrad and (possibly) the Kronstadt as well as the Missouri and not given to ANY more ships.

As I said, it was fine last week, this is a very recent issue. Played ranked tonight with a solid 60 FPS, went back to randoms and I am down to 30 FPS again.

How do we help players like these?
xxNihilanxx replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
Dude you having bad stats is not the reason I "slag you off" as you put it, it's your attitude on here that causes the problems. Had you come to the forum and said "Guys, I am doing poorly at this game could anyone give me a clue as to what I am doing wrong?" then a whole load of us, myself included, would have fallen over ourselves to help you out. Instead you parade your bad performance around as if it were some kind of badge of honour and actually deride the better players. Let's not forget that our first "altercation" came during @Fat_Maniac's awesome advice to new players thread last year when, if I remember correctly, he was advising people to take their time going up through the tiers as it would ultimately make the game more enjoyable for all, themselves included. This posted was lauded by all and was universally accepted as brilliant advice until you arrived with your first post of... "I respect the OP's opinion but must disagree" When asked to elaborate you then, essentially went on a bit of a rant saying people should play what the hell they like, however the hell they liked and went on to mock better players, insulting them with terms such as "self-righteous" and "self-important" and claimed, inaccurately, to be speaking for the majority of players in the game. Despite multiple people asking you to wind your neck in and not give out bad advice, given your own performance, you continued in your typical, offensive manner. This included calling me an idiot in another thread that was running at the time. It isn't your performance that attracts my negative comments, it is your horrendous attitude and bad advice. I have never "slagged" anyone off for their stats alone, stats only come up when a poor player is making a fool of themselves by ignoring the advice of better players. I'm rubbish at this forum stuff so I'll just link the aforementioned thread here so anyone interested can see that you have a history of being obnoxious Why you persist with this attitude I have no idea*, there really is no need for it. . *Actually I do know, it's because you lack the skills to be a decent player and so, instead of trying to improve, you resort to the age-old insults equivalent to calling better players "no-life-losers". Just stop already. As I have said before - if you put as much effort into learning the game as you put into defending your poor play and insulting those better than you you could have improved quite a bit. -
Thanks for this. I guess I will just put up with it until they get it sorted. Of course, knowing WG, we will probably all be gaming on quantum computers by then but hey....

As one of the people referred to in this thread I can say that all was fine when I stopped playing last Friday, I was locked at 60FPS with V-Sync. I didn't play at all over the weekend and, in fact, as I was partying Saturday night, I barely touched my PC at all. Fired up WoWS last night (Monday) and the game was struggling at 30 FPS. I stuck with it thinking it was somehow temporary but having tried it again today there is no difference. Have tried lowering pretty much every available setting in game with no change whatsoever. Updated video drivers - no change.

How do we help players like these?
xxNihilanxx replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
So how would players grind out ships in this mode as usually clan wars are set at a particular tier? People still need to play in randoms in order to progress through the lines. Instead of changing the game entirely due to the impact of really bad players a better solution would be for the really bad players to actually get a clue about this incredibly simple game. It's a very basic arcade game, short of physical and/or mental disabilities it is incredibly difficult to perform so poorly. To make matters worse WG have consistently added more and more crutches to players to help them in game - most notably with the inclusion of various captain skills. When I started there was no such thing as Priority Target, for example, and yet it took exactly one incident of sailing broadside to the enemy fleet and getting the consequent, obligatory paddling to teach me that sailing broadside was not a good idea. How the hell are people with 100s or 1000s of games still doing exactly that? Despite everything that I have written people are still talking about "casual" players. "Casual" players are NOT the ones with the <45% WR. I started this game as a casual player and the lowest my WR ever got was 49% with 2% as draws. This was back in the days when I was permanently stoned and had no idea what I was doing. I understood the basics of the progression system as I had played WoT for some time but that was about it. Casual players tend to sit at around the 50% WR mark and thus have little to no influence on the outcome of the match. The OP is about really bad players - people who play so badly that it is hard to believe that they are not deliberately sabotaging their team's efforts. As I said earlier one could go afk (after moving the ship a little at start to prevent the auto-afk detection kicking in) and still achieve a >45% WR. It truly does begger belief that anyone, let alone multiple people, could have performances so poor. If you are consistently achieving terrible performance then I politely suggest that video gaming is not really a suitable hobby. Back when gaming was quite niche and gamers were considered "nerds" the games were often quite difficult. Nowadays they are so dumbed down for mass appeal that they are almost impossible to fail. How, then, are people consistently failing and failing hard at today's ultra-simple offerings? One really does not need to be particularly good to achieve a break-even 50% WR. That is the level that we can expect from "casual" gamers. To score below that shows that a person does not have sufficient aptitude for video gaming and it blows my mind that these people do not realise that. We really are talking about people who would struggle to understand the rules of Candy Crush here. Repeat after me: THIS GAME IS NOT THAT HARD! -
How do we help players like these?
xxNihilanxx replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
Of course a lot of players would like their team mates to stop repeatedly blowing themselves up with their own grenades, but as I said, this is nowhere near the same as expecting everyone to be an expert. The level of incompetence that people rail against is the kind of level that leaves us wondering how the player in question was even able to turn on their own PC unaided. Take our resident troll, for example, he has around a 43% WR. Were he to merely load into a game, press W for a while to defeat the automatic AFK detection, and then go off and watch porn for 20 mins, statistics suggest he would have a higher win rate than he currently does. His manner of play is (purposefully or otherwise) totally sabotaging his teams chance of victory. Wondering how he can bring himself to do this over the course of thousands of battles is a far cry from berating players with, say, a 50% WR whose presence essentially has zero impact on the outcome of the match or expecting everyone to be great at the game as you seem to think. It really isn't that terrible to expect a basic level of competence at something that one CHOOSES to do for hundreds of hours. -

xxNihilanxx replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
Again, I don't know why people keep trying to make this claim as it just isn't true. I don't think I have ever seen anybody state that they expect everybody to be great at this game or that everyone should have a 60%+ WR. What I do see, however, are people constantly wondering how on earth it is even possible to be as abysmally bad at this game as our trolling friend above (unless, of course, they are doing it on purpose). The game just isn't that difficult. Let's face it, to get the results of some of these players is tantamount to somebody, in a game like the Battlefield series, for example, doing nothing but spawning in, dropping a frag grenade at their feet, blowing themselves up, spawning back in and repeating the process ad infinitum for the lifetime of the game. Surely sooner or later the player in question would learn not to drop a grenade at their own feet as soon as they spawn in? Being amazed that somebody could do this repeatedly without ever learning from the experience is a million miles from expecting everybody to play at the level of people such as LevelCap or whoever. There is a HUGE difference. To then see somebody trying to claim that they drop grenades at their own feet over and over for months on end because it is fun and then trying to encourage other players to adopt a similar approach is beyond belief. Especially as we all really know that the truth of the matter is that they haven't actually realised which is the grenade key yet. -
It certainly is hard to find a justification to spend real money to be little more than fodder for T10 ships. The Tier 8 MM is too skewed at the moment for me to even consider buying any more T8 premiums.

xxNihilanxx replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
He just lies. He may have played his first game when the game first released but he has certainly not played constantly since. He appeared on the forum for a while over a year ago and was trolling then exactly as he is now. Then he disappeared for ages returning a short time ago to continue his trolling. He thinks it is funny but this kind of trolling is so "late 90s". He pretends that he "plays for fun" but, having seen him play, it is obvious that this is just a cover for his incompetence which is why he is constantly deriding the better players. He simply lacks the experience to be any better than his stats indicate. His "playstyle" is just point ship towards enemy team and sail straight forwards until dead. It's all he knows how to do. He makes out that he does not care about learning but this is merely an excuse to hide the fact that he is incapable of doing so. He also, mistakenly, thinks that this is not blatantly obvious to all and sundry.
