The issue being discussed here is surface ships versus aircraft, not specific classes of surface ship. So sure, have an opt out for surface ships by all means.

Fair point, it was a good one, although I preferred the B-Side.

Weren't you paying attention in the 80's man? Guess you need a reminder...

How can we add more interaction to: Airplanes versus surface ships?
xxNihilanxx replied to LemonadeWarriorITA's topic in General Discussion
Assuming that, in real life, during "Combat stations" all AA guns would be fully manned I have to wonder exactly what is supposed to be happening during sector reinforcement? All I can think is that there must be a load of spare sailors whose job it is to run from one side of the ship to the other and doing exactly what you describe. True. King Cnut (and I mean the historical figure - not a veiled reference to Beastofwar designed to bypass the profanity filter) had more chance of getting the tide to stop coming in than we have of getting WG to listen to us, but who doesn't enjoy shouting at the wind? (Aaaaaand that's another two minutes of my life lost to watching dancing girls)

Nah, Slim Pickens would definitely be riding an AP bomb in that scenario. "We'll meet again (sing it with me) don't know where, don't know when"- 75 replies

Time for a CVs In/Out referendum! The only problem I see with that is the fact that CVexit is a damned mouthful to pronounce. (CuhVexit? SeeVexit?)
-
No argument from me on that score. So we went from terrible to even worse. This is not an argument in favour of returning to the "terrible". This is why I advocate the removal of aircraft because I prefer to move from the terrible to the better. There are, and always have been, matches where no CVs were present. In those matches NONE of the issues described above rear their ugly heads.
-
So the good CV player couldn't spot the caps while the bad one sent his group of planes around the map edge thus enabling the good CV player's DDs to secure all caps and ensure the bad CV player's DD could never get anywhere near them? AA cruisers couldn't get close enough to support DDs as they would get spotted by enemy DDs and blapped by that team's BBs. I always played differently when CVs were in game but it never once stopped the match playing out exactly as described above. The ONLY exception came when the stars aligned and the bad CV player had a unicum team and the good CV player had a team of total potatoes. Those matches were incredibly rare. Like total solar eclipse rare.
-
The issue with the RTS CV was that the result of a team based match was solely decided by the CV players in nearly all cases whenever they were present. This rendered the efforts of the other 22 players in the match mostly irrelevant. That can never be allowed to return.
-
This presumes that there are a significant proportion of the playerbase who play CVs exclusively. If, and it is a big if, removing aircraft from the game caused a number of players to leave where would they go? WoWP maybe? Would WG care if players moved from one of their products to another?
-
Completely off topic but god I wish you weren't such a prolific poster. Every time (and I mean EVERY time) I read one of your comments I get completely entranced for several minutes watching the animation in your signature. I am sure that one day you will find a way to put the message "Bring back RTS CVs" into it subliminally.

You do understand that polls are representative, it isn't necessary to ask every single person to determine the views of "the masses"? There are two types of people in this world - those who can extrapolate from incomplete data As for the numbers being stable, WG introduce what was essentially a whole new class yet there was no spike in player numbers? Nobody came back to the game to see what all the fuss was about? That must be a first in gaming history. Every poll I have ever seen on the subject, wherever I have seen that poll, has the majority of players preferring there to not be CVs but fine, those polls weren't conducted in a scientifically controlled environment so it is safe to ignore them. The reality is the complete opposite of every single result ever. Sounds plausible. Even if the playerbase has stayed stable, do we know the same about the "payerbase"? I know I went from spending constantly on this game to not having spent a penny in months, many months. That isn't going to change anytime soon with the game in its current state. I know from talking to people that I'm not alone. Hopefully others that didn't pay have started to instead, but who knows? Do WG even follow gaming news? This is a particularly volatile point in gaming history with gamers rapidly reaching breaking point with the amount that companies are trying to milk them for every penny and refusing to listen to their complaints. Companies that were once held up as a shining beacon by gamers are seeing their reputation in tatters. National governments are getting involved to shut down certain revenue streams (well done Belgium, and from what I have read the EU as a whole is also looking into it) and WG seem to rely heavily on that exact revenue stream. This is not the time for gaming companies to keep their fingers in their ears.
-
WG can have CVs in the game, if they like, just have the aircraft as deck ornaments like the depth charges on some DDs. It won't be much fun for the CV player, granted, but welcome to the world of the surface ship player. You should know by now that WG want one thing and one thing only - money. If revenue started dropping badly they would ditch CVs in a flash if they thought they were the reason, don't kid yourself otherwise. Your final paragraph sums the whole thing up perfectly - WG want CVs in the game so what's the point of listening to the majority of their customers? Maybe someone on the board of Blockbusters could answer that question for you.

How to make the game more enjoyable
xxNihilanxx replied to anonym_RGvUdEcxWWvD's topic in General Discussion
Remove aircraft. Remove cyclones/thunderstorms/other such gimmicky crap. Reduce frequency of standard mode. Introduce a full campaign mode that acts as a tutorial and replaces the PVP grind to T4 in all lines and rewards players with a 10pt captain in all their newly acquired T4 ships. This will greatly improve the new player experience. Stop trying to give each new line a national "flavour" by adding more and more gimmicky consumables. In short, stick with the tried and tested adage - Keep It Simple, Stupid. Have faith that you have succeeded in making a great game and the players will play on that basis. -
The thing is, though, WG aren't doing anything about it or, at least, they aren't doing anything about the reason behind there being multiple threads daily. The rework hasn't solved any of the problems with CVs and has, instead, exacerbated many of them and it is driving a large proportion of the playerbase to distraction. Hiding all the comments away in one place isn't addressing the issue it is just finding a way to conveniently ignore it. This is the second iteration of this class and still it is obvious to most that aircraft do not work in a ship game. They represent a "disruptive technology" in both the literal and figurative sense and actively detract from the enjoyment of the majority of the playerbase (according to every poll I have seen on the subject). I undertsand the reason for their inclusion, there will always be a proportion of risk-averse gamers who only feel comfortable in a risk-free scenario when it comes to PVP games (this is not saying that all CV players fall into this category, btw) but in courting those players to boost player numbers WG are actively pi$$ing off the vast majority of gamers who aren't so risk-averse. This, to me, is a gamble of epic proportions in a F2P model that absolutely relies on having a large playerbase. I genuinely feel that by pandering to the risk averse, which WG have done multiple times with multiple classes, they have driven away more players over the history of this game than they have gained. Having aircraft in a ship game is seriously spoiling the fun that is to be had in this game and people don't pay for what they don't find fun. Including aircraft will drive people away, removing them won't. We know this because nobody has ever complained about the matches with no CVs in them (outside of the times when missions required plane kills). But phuq it, stick all the complaints in one place and keep your fingers in your ears because it's WG and we all know the company motto. La La La I'm not listening!

Scrap the CV as a class and be done with that cancer...
xxNihilanxx replied to MurderousKitten's topic in General Discussion
Likening something to cancer in that manner is the easiest and quickest way to destroy any credibility you may have had. Nobody would like to see the removal of aircraft from our ship game more than me but seriously, what a D-Bag. -

xxNihilanxx replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
I guess it did get lost in the fog of war, in fact it probably got lost in the midst of my explaining to the total idiots on my team exactly how little regard I held them in as they pillocked about at the mouth of the channel while your team rolled up what few ships we actually had trying for the objectives. The first game you were in a Musashi and in division with that Venom character. -

I have seen @NoobySkooby twice in the last couple of days, both times on the enemy team. Said "Hi" in chat both times but the ignorant sod just ignored me. I don't know, the youth of today, eh? -
