    Some nonsense in WoW...

As I said, the game uses RNG to determine your accuracy. movement isn't considered. That is a basic game mechanic and it is unlikely to change. If it bothers you, don't play a wargaming title as RNG is quite a big thing in their games. Also Turn on the smoke indication. It is likely that you were in a smokescreen but not realising it. Smoke works both ways. You can't see in it or out of it. The concealment rating of your ship is the basic rating. Being on fire or firing your guns makes you more visible. Yes it is obvious that ap doesn't affect dds. But I am trying to explain the game mechanics to you. This is a game designed to be picked up and played. Real naval combat doesn't scale very well in to a video game where engagements last minutes, not the hours of real combat.

    Some nonsense in WoW...

Hi OP. Point 1. Your shots are governed by RNG. You can find the maximum possible dispersion (distance between) shots in the stats. it is a balancing feature, so some ships have a better accuracy than others. The game doesnt take movement into account Point 2. I assume that either the enemy ship, or your ship was in a smoke screen, In the interface options there is a check box to turn on a graphical representation of the area of a smoke screen. it displays white circles on the surface of the water where smoke is present. Turning this on should help distinguish how visible ships are likely to be. Point 3. The damage model does not take account of flooding by gunfire. Flooding is only caused by ramming or torpedoes. The developers said back in closed beta that flooding damage caused by gun fire would be insignificant and not included. AP shells are ineffective in this case as there was not enough armour to prime the fuse. this is an over penetration. The ribbon system in the top right of the display shows over pens, so keep an eye on it, and that should tell you when to switch your ammo type.

The Great Battleship Plague of 2016

I for one am not being critical, or intolerant to any one here on these forums. Unless i am missing something? I enjoyed CBT, i stand by that comment. my experiences were good. I pre ordered the sims. i bought the warspite first time around. Here, a year later, i am still enjoying the game. and try to play regularly.

The Great Battleship Plague of 2016

My experiences of CBT we good. What more can i say? It was a smaller, friendlier, higher skilled community, which in my experience were willing to help each other. I found it a most welcome escape from WoT. It still seems like there are a lot of active Alpha and Beta players left to me. I have no numbers to back that up, it is just a feeling.

Agreed, but at least doing the right thing usually ended in a win.

The Great Battleship Plague of 2016

My New Orleans has gathered dust in port for months now. it is the most pointless ship in my collection. There is no role for it at the moment. With the powercreep it is worthless. Poor RoF, poor range, no armour. but it has great concealment!! woo!

The Great Battleship Plague of 2016

To start with the IJN had BBs but no CVs, and the US had CVs but no BBs, IJN BBs had great range, but poor accuracy. If you wanted to hit anything you moved closer. With powerful CVs BBs needed AA escorts from cruisers. There seemed to be more cohesive team play in CBT. DDs spotted, and torpedoed targets of opportunity. CLs hunted DDs, BBs hunted cruisers and CVs hunted BBs

The Great Battleship Plague of 2016

I don't necessarily agree that BBs are OP or other classes are UP. I have always favoured Cruiser game play and feel now that there is no real role for me. AA duty is pointless with so few CVs at higher tiers. HE spam isn't that effective with 8" gun rates of fire. I find myself in DDs more now than i ever did, as at least i have a chance now at taking out a sleepy BB captain as opposed to being BB cannon fodder in the only CA on my team!

The Great Battleship Plague of 2016

Whilst i agree that BBs seem to make up a large proportion of team composition at the moment, i believe that its probably only temporary. We have had a whole new line of BBs introduced, along with Scharnhorst and Dunkerque. The German BBs were always going to create a hype train. We will see the same again when the devs get around to the British BBs. I believe that this is a temporary blip though, as there will be huge numbers of RN CLs in the next month or so. I think the issue with the game at the moment is that the game balance is on a knife edge. One day you may end up with half the team in BBs, 1 or 2 CAs and the rest in DDs. the next day you might have a competent CV player and a decent number of CAs. The underlying issue is that there are too few CVs to counter campy BBs at the moment in the higher tiers. I am not a CV captain, nor was i pleased when every game was dominated by 2 CVs per team. But it appears the beating with the nerf bat was too savage!

    Choosing game modes?

Unfortunately not at this time. I hope that this option may become available soon though. I am not enjoying epicentre at high tiers, as it appears that no one understands the concept and sail around aimlessly
  11. I am sceptical about the RN CLs to be honest. I have been buying port slots whilst on offer, and saving credits for the release. What concerns me is the lack of heavy cruisers in this line. whilst I understand that there are plans to separate out CAs from the CLs, why does the RN have to suffer? I have been hoping for the County class ever since closed beta, particularly HMS Dorsetshire, as that is the county where I live! I really enjoy CA game play, as these are a real jack of all trades. I loved playing up the German line, the gun handling was great. good arcs with decent AP. I was hoping for more of the same with the RN, but, it looks like I am going to be disappointed. I really enjoyed the Cleveland in closed beta and just after release. But I haven't played her for months, because the gun handling is awful now. i know she needed a rebalance, but the howitzer type guns just don't suit me. I could have dealt with a rate of fire or turret rotation nerf, but i just cant deal with the guns! I fear I will be heading into a carbon copy of this meta with the RN CLs. Looking at the early stats i would gladly drop smoke for more range. It seems these ships are amongst the worse in most areas compared to their peers in almost every respect. for instance, how is HMS Edinburgh going to stand up against a Kutuzov? The Kutz has a 5km range advantage! I hope my fears aren't going to be realised on release of this branch

every game lost, think of giving up already

I haven't seen you play, obviously, so i cant comment on your positioning or situational awareness. I am no expert at this game, i would say i am average or slightly above average. But i do understand that positioning is important, and angling of armour is the second most affective way of minimising damage. the first is to not take dame in the first place. What i need to ask you is, do you pay attention to the map and occasionally zoom out of sniper view and asses the situation around you? The reason i ask is your survivability isn't great. obviously the longer you survive, the more time you have to do damage, and gain more XP and credits. Do you assess your chances during an engagement and disengage if the chance of surviving are minimal? i have seen so many times recently people just sailing straight into fights they cannot win, so the just stay on the same course and just blaze away until they die. No body seems to want to disengage and draw the enemy nearer the rest of the team. MMO games are not won on fair fights. only go one on one with an inferior ship. if you are loosing, disengage.

    New to teir V

Hi OP. I haven't played the Omaha since the game came out, but i do play the Murmansk and Marblehead regularly. I find the best thing to do with these light scout cruisers is to try and hang back and play a supporting role with HE spam. These ships have a high rate of fire, have guns on both sides, so even with the most violent manoeuvring you can still bring a lot of guns to bear in a short period of time. I always stay with other cruisers, and try to ensure there is some one or something between me and enemy. If i am the nearest thing to the enemy i always try to sail at a 30 to 45 degree angle to ensure i am a difficult target to hit. keep up a barrage of HE, after a couple of fires i find most enemies will get bored and try shooting at something else. I find the AP can be quite devastating at close range against broadside cruisers. and don't forget you have the torps in reserve if anyone gets too close. Once you can get through to the enemy battleships you can do very well with fire damage! If you like playing cruisers, but are struggling with the US line, i found good results with the German line, A tactic with them that i find works is to sail directly away from enemies and use the rear bias of fire power as mentioned above. AP works well on the Germans, as the shell arc is very favourable for this. With any cruiser though it is always important to remember to disengage if the fight isn't favourable to you. you have a decent amount of speed and i find disengaging briefly will allow me a bit of breathing space to re-access what threats and what targets need priority. If you focus too heavily on one target and stay on one course, you will find the better players will focus you, as you are an easy citadel! Don't stay committed to a losing fight unless you are resetting a cap or something critical like that Best of luck, and i hope you find a ship you do well in.

every game lost, think of giving up already

Hey Puma. I must say that it is disappointing that you are having this type of experience with the game. I must admit though, that i do understand how you feel. i have given up, but not un-installed tanks, despite having invested heavily in tanks with several tier 8s 9s and 10s i find myself out of touch with the game and find myself hammered by people with 5 perk crews! I hope you consider re-installing at some point in the future, as the game needs new players to survive. Maybe have a month off, wait for the German BB hype train to derail and come back again with a renewed sense of enthusiasm?

every game lost, think of giving up already

Hey Puma, don't beat yourself up! I found tier 4 difficult too as most ships seem quite weak compared to tiers 5 and 6 that i faced. Most of the ship lines take a big leap in quality at tier 5. You will find that there is a line that suits your play style, just keep plugging away! Generally tier 5 is when things get better. I fell in love with the tier 5+ German cruisers, as they fit the way i play nicely. My only advice i can offer is to try and be a difficult target to hit, if you are going to be a target at all! I always find that being the first one in there is a ticket to being the first one to the port. Looking at your stats your shooting has a reasonable hit rate, could be better could be worse. So just try and assist by focusing your fire on an enemy that is already engaged, and be aware of return fire, and manoeuvre yourself to minimise damage in return. Do not be afraid to shift your fire to another ship if another target is at a better angle to you. always look for broadside on enemies as a priority to maximise your damage potential whist staying at an angle yourself The advice i can offer vic is to try and stick to the lower tiers. If you are going to play at tier 7, the vast majority of the enemy team are going to be in non premium ships that they have invested hours grinding to. These players aren't going to be idiots, and if you present your broadside to them, they will punish you! I too am fond of a premium to assist with credit grinding and captain training, but find myself better off with the low tier prems.

High tier repair costs too high?

I have reached tier 8 on the US cruiser line, and i must admit i now only play my NO to get the 1st win daily x1.5. I have nothing against the NO at all, i actually like the ship. Its not just the economics of the thing, it is the MM and the slow, tedious campfest that ensues in higher tier games. i just don't find the game enjoyable. As a cruiser captain, high tier DD hunting is more difficult and BBs slugging it out a 20K + means the games are slower and more difficult to survive. It is almost like playing a different game at the top. If there are no Atagos to hunt, i find the NO boring! The Murmansk and Warspite help with the credit income deficit i encounter if i have a poor game or i am off of premium time. Maybe a small tweak to either income or repairs would encourage a more enjoyable high tier experience. It must be worth a try at least?

    Veteran players dropout

Is the Game getting worse, or are more WOT casuals coming over? I am still enjoying the game, and have done since the beginning of the Closed Beta. I really enjoyed the Closed Beta game play. It was a great community, and the matches were fair and generally quite friendly. I have certainly noticed a change since Open Beta in the calibre of player. I cannot blame the game for that! I must admit i am very aware now of idiots in tier 8 premiums. There seems to be a lot of them now. To me it seems we have a lot more less able players per team now. It doesn't bother me too much, as usually if there is an idiot in an Atago or Tirpitz on my team being a noob, there is at least one or two to shoot at on the other team!

    Advice sought

I think i might need some help. In Close Beta i only got as far a Tier 6, and really enjoyed the game and the community. Now the game is live and i am still enjoying the game, and have managed to grind out a New Orleans. I must say after 20 or so games i am struggling with the game play of the higher tiers. I am a distinctly average player, and i am not playing the New Orleans any differently to the Pespsicola, but i am struggling to say the least. I fear i may not gain a profit at all when my premium time expires as i am finding the repairs on this ship a lot higher than the previous ships. I normally play a more defensive role, as i will usually try and support the least defended flank providing i am not on my own over there. Is there a specific role for the New Orleans, as i fear i am doing it wrong! I find it really hard to ignore an open flank, but should i just be sailing with the rest of the fleet and getting any damage i can from the resulting melee and just hope for the best? Any advice on this ship, or higher tier Cruiser game play welcome.

Thanks for all your help guys. I appreciate the input! plenty to think about there. I have noticed a drop in damage done between the NO and the Pepsi, so i think i am not switching the ammo up enough, and exposing my ship too much. Thanks again, and hope to see you guys on the battlefield.

Thanks Kuso. i searched the forum for the New Orleans. There is a thread about it being garbage, why is it tier 8 blah blah blah! I must admit i didnt think to look up the economy. I may try a slightly more aggressive play style, it may not help the win rate, but if it keeps the credits and XP rolling in then i suppose its worth it!

    Good money maker

Premium wise, I get the best credit return from my Murmansk and Warspite. i dont seem to earn big with my Sims. I dont have the Albany any more, as it was truly awful. If you looking for a premium i would recommend the Murmansk. If you want a standard ship, i think the Omaha would do you well. Your credit income is based on your performance, so maybe you would earn well with the St Louis. lots of guns, lots of hits, lots of credits,

    Ultimatum for the developers

Unfortunately when playing multi player games, you will encounter other players. There is no IQ test, age restrictions or anything. If you have an internet connection, well, that's good enough! I know someone who plays this game with a computer so old that he manages frame rates of only single figures. It impares his ability to play, but he is enjoying him self. He isn't brain dead, but he might occasionally crash into someone when he suffers a lag spike or low FPS. Should WG ban him too? There is no subscription charge for this game, so no one is forced to pay a penny, nor is anyone forced to play this game. The only way you can raise your concern is with a ticket, and a replay or screen shot.
  23. Its a nice idea, but the matchmaker struggles as it is to match a team. If it was even possible for the matchmaker to be able to calculate who out of 25000 players didn't want to to play with 24000 of the other players. Imagine the Que time, you could be waiting ten mins for a match. You mention ranked battles. surely if you don't like the team play in random, there is always PVE or ranked battles?
  24. mikelight1805

    Why aren't people ever satisfied?

I for one would just like to say i am satisfied with the game so far, Yes there is room for improvement. but, as the game stands at the moment it matches my expectations. Its early days for the game. I find it playable at is current state. There are frustrations at times, poor teams, poor situational awareness, poor match making, poor RNG. Its a FTP game, its going to frustrate at times. My only concern is the economy at higher tiers. i find it a big difference in credit earning between 7 and 8. Maybe i'm just crap, and that's why i don't earn enough!

Most spectacular release of all times!

I don't know what the development process is for a game of this size.so i cannot answer "You really think that a release day package will slow down the dev process?" I was only saying that i am looking forward to new ships and new nations, and that offers are nice, but as long as the server is up when i want to play that i am happy.
