Going on WGs track record, i would be amazed if RDF is going to be dropped. I am almost certain that RDF is coming in some form or another. I was hoping we could find a way of changing it into something more palatable. I know it is leaving a bad taste in many players mouths, and i fully understand that. Instead of the like it or lump it attitude i had hoped as a community we could say "No!, but do it this way instead"

I shall return to the hole from whence i came
-
Which is fine, that is not OP. If the RDF pings every minute with a sector, as it does now, then fade gradually you have no "real time" target tracking. just like the last known location on the minimap. I don't see how that can be abused anywhere near as the current real time tracking. and regards to the minimap, most people seem to pay no attention to it anyway! but that's another topic..........
-
No, i don't want to roll over and say its fine. I want to say "make RDF show where the nearest enemy was a minute ago" that way the skill still has a use without being abused
-
I bet my container will have more Ocean Soul camos.
-
But if its gone through two public tests it is coming. Even if it gets changed considerably, like the RN CLs, they still came on the patch they were intended to. Just saying its broke, i'm not playing any more wont get the skill changed if there isn't any suggestions on what it can be changed to

There are plenty of threads as to why the current RDF is bad. I was hoping to start a dialogue of how we could improve the skill, rather than just complain about it!

I care for the game deeply, and have supported it financially ever since i was invited to the CBT. I don't want to see it become WoT where only people heavily invested in the game with 19 point captains completely dominate the game over someone with a lesser skilled captain. Captain skills should provide a slender advantage to reward the effort put in by a dedicated player base. That is why i suggested a lesser form of RDF. As i have said in other threads, CE is now a lot easier to come by, so i see a need to lesser the impact of a huge increase in concealment builds where half the game is spent sailing around avoiding each other!

How is your progress with "The Hunt For Graf Spee" and "Santa's Christmas Convoy"?
mikelight1805 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I am cruising along quite nicely I only get a couple hours a night, so i should be able to bash out the AGS camo tonight and the Tirpitz camo tomorrow I had considered buying the AGS to help with the mission once i heard we were getting it, but i put the cash into santa boxes instead in the vain hope of a Gremmy or an Atago.I won enough doubloons for a month of premier time and a ton of Ocean Soul camos in stead which have helped with the XP requirements Its quite nice to feel like i earned it all, (even though in a way i paid for it!)- 168 replies

At this point, i am almost certain that is coming, whether we like it or not. So i was just wondering how it could be toned down to a more acceptable level. I know it will never be popular, but would there be less rage if it acted more like an old fashioned radar?
-
I wasn't unhappy with the current set of skills personally. Yes 15 point captains are hard to get but that is the point isn't it? i would be very interested to hear the thoughts behind RPF though
-
I am not sure who has asked for RPF, even though i have spoken out in defence of it. I certainly didn't ask for it, as i feel it takes a skill out of the game i am not sure how it can be a justified skill unless it is the trade off for making CE easier to obtain?

I always take a range upgrade regardless. There is an option is the settings to display the alternate interface. That shows a flight time and range next to the cross hair. once you get a feel for your shell velocities you can use this to help lead your shots

Without a complete overhaul of the game mechanics, i assume it will be mines. they are just static torpedos really

But with situational awareness i know there is a DD near the cap when i am detected and cant see anything approaching a cap. I still don't know what is following that DD unless it shoots at me and gives away its position. The same way that i do not open fire on the first target i see. i wait, maintain concealment and asses the situation before opening fire and compromising myself out of position, Even with RDF there is still the cat and mouse, who blinks first scenario.
-
tactical concealment is still going to be perfectly viable. Just because you know what direction nearest enemy is doesn't mean you know what it is, or which way it is heading. How you act upon that information is up to the player. There will still need to be some educated guess work where the DD is or might be heading. Is the RDF tracking a stealth Atago or is it tracking a DD? Say if i had RDF on my Edinburgh, and RDF is tracking something i cannot see. Is it the enemy Kagero which i should be able to take care of, or is it the Zao which hasnt been spotted for a while? Do i turn in to the indicator, fire up the hydro, go balls out and prey its the DD? Do i choose to ignore it and let the stealth ship go on its merry way?

i noticed my spelling, and have already corrected it! back to the point at hand. I think the whole rock paper scissor concept of the game has unintentionally fell by the wayside some what. It seems that the balance is tipped to far in either direction, and maybe a more measured response is needed. I expect there is something already in the pipeline. Unfortunately we never get to know what the devs are planing in the next 3 patches.

There is only one way to find out if it breaks the game......................

Back to the point, i apologise Amrael87. I have a DE captain on my German CAs and find these ships very versatile. They seem to have enough armour to get the job done if you are sensible. The AA is reasonable for self defence, The AP is great when the opportunity presents itself, and the poor HE is workable with DE and the fire chance flags. The fire arcs are comfortable, and the shell speed is acceptable. Apart from the good AP they are a good jack of all trades. I didn't like the low tier Russian cruisers, but after the convoy mission i will have a look at the Buddy when the servers return to normal when everyone gets back to normal and stops sailing all their new ships

Very true, I am not pretending to be a WoWs authority. I can only talk from my experience, which is formed from US, RN and KM cruisers. As i have said before, on this thread, and others, i am OK with this skill going live, and seeing how it pans out. If it breaks the game, the devs will change it, i am sure they will. I think it is disappointing that the game has taken this direction, as i love the satisfying feeling of ambushing a DD that doesn't know i am there. But, what i do believe is this is an experiment in making the game less passive. and that i welcome. In my ideal world i would love a CV overhaul and see CVs counter the high BB camp fest, and give back the US CAs the AA role they excelled in. that isn't happening, so we will se where RDF takes us.
-
You may think i am wrong. that's the whole point of a forum. I don't think RDF is as game breaking as you. What i do think is it will remove a certain amount of skill from the game and make it easier for some players to do better without necessarily improving their understanding of the game.It takes a way a certain amount of pro-action and replaces it with reaction.

How is RDF perma detection? RDF has nothing to do with the detection mechanic.

I do know where to aim thank you. I also know when to use AP and when to use HE. That's why i do over the average damage on most of my ships. My point is you still need to hit with HE to do damage. it still takes skill to hit in the first place. If you think the guy that is shooting HE at you has no skill, why is he hitting you all the time? The reason i do over the average damage is because i dont occupy the moral high ground "I'm holier than thou, i only shoot AP" I mix my ammo choice to reliably do damage. Every time i will take the HE damage on an angled ship than bounce my AP. I only use AP on broadsides, or short range engagements when i am sure it will go in. If all you rate yourself on doing is getting kills, how do you achieve that without maximising your damage? do you withhold your shots and wait to execute a low health enemy after someone else has burnt them down for you?
-
I have seen many battles where a lone ship has won the game where the remaining team have gone off chasing rather than just a simple win by cap. why should a 1 vs 2,3 or 4 be favourable to the 1 ship? If you are on the team that has failed that hard, do you as a team deserve the win? i have had krakens and sill lost. that sucks. but the team sucked harder, so the other team won, That seems fair to me.
-
@Thinderchief: If you citadel more than most, you must also bounce more than most. Your average damage is below the server average. If you use AP on a half decent cruiser captain he will angle against you. HE is the answer to that. And it still takes skill to HE spam from range and maintain a good hit rate. These "HE spam, no skill" arguments don't hold much weight if the other guy is hitting you more than you are hitting him.
