We are looking into ways to reduce the BB population
mikelight1805 replied to Horin728's topic in General Discussion
I think a drastic rework to the economy is needed. Maybe cruiser profitability needs increasing, and BB profitability needs decreasing. If the average BB window licker had to play 3 or 4 games in a cruiser to pay for one game in a BB im sure we would all have a better game experience. -

I think a buff to BB accuracy would encourage more long range sniping. Cruisers should not be able to withstand high calibre artillery. whilst the random shell that you couldn't dodge is frustrating, If you had disengaged earlier you wouldn't have taken the hit in the first place -
The damage part i didn't find too hard. it took a couple of attempts but got there in the end. i rigged the USSR requirement by queuing in a PVE battle in my Murmasnk and Budyonny. I never finished the final mission with 2 BB kills. that was beyond me driving any of my T6-T9 BBs. I'm a little disappointed as its the 1st time at trying to complete one of these weekly missions. I usually just play normally and pick up whatever rewards i gain through normal play.

I cannot remember when the economy changes were made, was it as campy before the fixed service cost? my memory is terrible for times and dates. speaking of camping, who remembers this World of Tanks T-Shirt?
-
Yes, but is just BBs that are the problem? it seems to me a more complex issue of overall game balance that seems to just be blamed on BBs. I know BBs are overly strong and mostly driven by bumbercluts, but i think the issue is more than just BBs
-
I would say that it isn't just BBs that camp any more. It feels to me that all classes have became campier. The teamwork of the CBT and early release seems so very long ago. It is a rare thing now where a DD would smoke a cap or a flank then spot for the team. DDs just seem to want to sit in smoke and spam torps. Cruisers hug islands and avoid caps or open water through fear of being spanked. There seems to be no coordination or focusing of fire. Just last night in a a 2 on 2 the New Mexico in front of me carried on blazing away at a 3/4 heath Fuso instead of finishing the Bayern i had reduced to a couple thousand HP that was just behind the Fuso. There is scant reward for team play so every one just thinks for them selves and insures their own survival. Maybe the fixed servicing costs aren't working. Maybe there needs to be a modifier to servicing costs, the more HP you have left at the game, the more it costs to fix. counter intuitive i know, but the guy at the back with the scratched paint earns less than the guy who finished the game with a dreadnought and only the paint holding his ship together

Bismarck Mission and Bogue captain skill question.
mikelight1805 replied to Messias's topic in Newcomers' Section
I am a new CV player, and i find the Bogue quite forgiving as long as you stay near the flank that is pushing. that way i keep my limited air group in the action longer as the flight time back to rearm is lower. I find the fighter quite strong, and the torpedoes are ok. I topped 100k damage the other day with just torps. I was using the default set up of 1 fighter and 1 bomber squadron, and found it quite easy to manage the planes Good hunting! -
IChase covers CVs in his captains academy series. Episodes 21, 23 and 36 cover CVs

Bismarck Mission and Bogue captain skill question.
mikelight1805 replied to Messias's topic in Newcomers' Section
I believe the missions are repeatable for stars. I too only have a Bogue for CV missions. I picked expert rear gunner, as with such a small air group i thought the protection would help me the best, but Torpedo acceleration is a good pick too, as the wide spread makes the torps easy to dodge if you turn into the planes. Torp range isn't that important unless there is Fuster Cluck of BBs stacking up on the map border for you. With the over abundance of BBs, 20 Top hits should be achievable in a 2 or 3 battles, even with only one squadron of bombers -
Is this mission political correct, hmm?

Maybe its to help the matchmaker with all the hoods they are expeting to sell -
Scharnhorst no wins possible anymore

Your average damage is low, and your survivability isn't too great either. Are you the first into the fray and focused down quickly? Do you change ammunition type to match the target? -
HMS Hood available on the 19th May
mikelight1805 replied to anonym_u5USg8CcK96I's topic in General Discussion
Im not sure how i feel completely honestly. I have a Bismark, and i have the permanent camo for her and am happy with that, The 11 million or so credits i will get if i complete the campaign is a welcome addition, as it is a nice chunk towards my next tier 10 CA. Regarding the collectables, I'm sure i will be hooked, and want them all, even though the only one that means anything to me is HMS Dorsetshire, as i happen to live in the county of Dorset. so as long as i pick that badge up i will be satisfied. Regarding the Hood, i always knew the top bundle would be out of my reach, as they always are. What has disappointed me is the price of the remaining bundles. i feel they are just too expensive for what they are. I was really hoping for a £50 bundle earlier in the campaign. I'm not sure how much i am really willing to spend on the ship Maybe i will just keep the cash for the steam sale or HMS Gallant -

Wow, the bundle prices are a bit steeper than i was expecting Its my Birthday tomorrow and even i cant justify the sort of expense for a distinctly average T7 BB. Even the lowest bundle seems a bit extreme for the ship and 2k Doubloons. What were the Scharnhorst bundles if any one can remember? I'm sure i didn't pay that sort of cash for it. I guess it will be the cheapest bundle then a HOOOOGE grind in the last week. Quite disappointed really, as i was pretty stoked that Hood was due around the time of my birthday........... -
I was on team Water, but that was because Fire was not accepting sign ups. I imagine the discount codes are either random, or targeted at players like me who spend, but not regularly.
-
I too have been presented with one. The last time i received one i used if for doubloons, and used them on a XP conversion event for the Mighty Misery This time though i only really want the Hood, i would have considered the Duca captains edition, but it doesn't come up to the minimum spend to redeem the voucher. If there was a shopping basket function i may have bought a Duca and a Molotov together maybe for 30% discount. never mind, lets see how much WG want to squeeze me for for the mid level Hood bundle.

But the Nurnberg is more manoeuvrable and a higher rate of fire. i didn't mind getting stuck in with the Nurnberg. i felt much more comfortable in the Roon by keeping my distance. The Roon is quite a long ship, and i always feared being caught mid turn by Torps.
-
Back to your original point, Yes i liked the Nurnberg. I didnt have a problem with the Yorck, even though its a completely different ship. I liked the Hipper, and i have bought Eugen. I had a blast in the Roon, but its just a massive Nurnberg. Kite away, punish broadsides with AP and spec DE to make HE usable. Hindenburg is an all round decent cruiser. Ask yourself if you want decent, if not outstanding cruisers. The KM cruiser line is really a jack of all trade master of none type of line. I enjoy the utilitarian type of ships they are. The only time i have felt uncomfortable in a KM cruiser is trying to defend caps from DDs in the Roon, as the turret placement made engaging aggressive DDs difficult.
-
I liked the Nurnberg. so much so i used it in a previous season of ranked. I just kited away and used AP as much as i could. i made the HE workable by using DE on the captain. It works best by luring someone over extended to chase you. Its agile so you should be able to dodge most of the incoming fire, and with most of your fire power at the rear you should out DPM your persuer. its even better if they get frustrated and try and turn, because the AP works wonders then.
-
A completely abstract, brain-fart of an idea i know, but how about some kind of de buff to ships far away from cap points, and a buff as you get nearer? the reason i say it is we have all witnessed feckless CAs and BBs chasing reds around the map boarders, sailing away from caps when a simple cap could have won the game. There seems to be no incentive for these potatoes to actually win the game. it seems they are satisfied to sail around with big guns that go boom. If they had accuracy and reload nerfs on the map border, at least they find a reason to stray near a cap point.
-
How i understand dispersion is the maximum distance in meters how far away the shells can land horizontally. The sigma value is what determines the vertical dispersion. The lower the number the more accurate the shots should be, with RNGesus blessings

The current state of the game cannot be fixed with just one change I agree the game has changed a lot since CBT when the game was really, really fun. But back then we only had 2 complete lines. If we look back, how can you for certain say that it is just IJN DD nerfs that have affected the game badly? In my humble opinion, a criminally low CV population, a overly strong KM BB line, and the IJN DD nerf have created a perfect storm to sit in a BB and hug map borders or bow on camp. The recent change to remove stealth fire has not helped anyone but BBs. I feel we have had too many changes, too quickly.

This should never happen to battleships [detonation of another yamato]
mikelight1805 replied to P2Win's topic in General Discussion
We will just have to agree to disagree. I really don't want to see world of battleships. Soon enough we will clearly end up with no DDs and cruisers in a match if they have no chance at all against BBs. I would love the devs to turn off all maps on April 1st and just have BBs on Ocean for a whole day hugging the map borders- 65 replies

mikelight1805 replied to P2Win's topic in General Discussion
If you would rather play a game without dets why do you play a Wargaming title? All WG games have a high RNG factor, the same as table top war games with dice rolls. There will always need to be some pure luck somewhere in this game, as if every one has super accurate laser guided railguns the game would become a matter of who clicked the LMB first. I also disagree with your point that its harmful to the game experience. The reason i say that is every ship needs to have a chance of destroying another ship. If ship A shoots at ship B which is 2 tiers higher with 3 x the health pool, ship A needs that slim chance else why bother using ship A? soon everyone will be using ship B. If Dets are removed from the game, some other form of random event would need to replace it.- 65 replies

The point i was trying to make was that many ships have had a magazine explosion, whether it was immediate or not. HMS hood, Barham and Antilope all spring to mind initially without too much thought, I personally accept magazine explosions as a part of a naval warfare game in the same way i accept being shot at with artillery and being torpedoed. If i didn't like those things i would consider myself to be playing the wrong game. Your point regarding the spotting mechanics is perfectly valid, but i would rather play the game with them as a faster paced arcade style game. I really don't want to play a simulator with actual distances, artillery plotting, gun elevation calculations and weather to contend with. Real engagements could last hours or even days. Whilst invisibility and radar are immersion breaking i tend not to think about them too much and just enjoy the game for what it is,- 65 replies
