Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Historynerd replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Well, neither did I do much! We may have won, but for relative contribution, the honours of the battle go to you! I did little also because I was unsure on what to do (the Cleveland might take me a little while to get accostumed to), and because I was slightly unnerved by the gent with whom I was discussing about the Regia Marina (he on the general chat, I on the team one). -
Then you are seeing wrong. Only the American and the Japanese trees currently have their battleship, cruiser, destroyer and aircraft carrier lines. The Soviet tree has only the cruiser and the destroyer ones, and the German for the moment only has the cruiser one. The French and the Italian trees are not present at all. However, the next line expected to be put in the game is going to be that of German battleships. So, please inform yourself next time, instead of embarassing yourself with such rants. And this thread is going to have a short life. Moderators are going to close it very soon.

Second battle under the belt. Two kills, seven citadels, almost 80K damage, 1160 base exp. I decided to play somewhat conservatively (also because I'm not a rusher myself... ). I got some hits, and they hurt, it really is made of cardboard. But I returned the damage with interest; the AP is blissful. Then I got killed at the end of the match, after happily torching and citadeling with HE an enemy carrier, because I was so busy trying to spam HE agains the last enemy Wyoming that I realized too late my broadside was wide open. Before I could react, he killed me. It somewhat remembers me of the Pensacola. A ship that can be penetrated like butter, but whose damage output can be quite good. I think I'll have fun with it.

Just unlocked it. The first battle was inconclusive, because we capped the domination circles quickly and therefore the match was over rather quickly. I'll wait and see how it goes the next times. As first impressions, though, the range and the damage seem really good; I wasn't shot at, so I cannot tell about the survivability, but the handling is quite brick-like. However, allow me, but I am more than ready to be positively impressed by it; if nothing else, because its lines are so Italian-like... it's almost like sailing in the Raimondo Montecuccoli or the Duca d'Aosta! I shamelessly admit it.

WG, please; remove standard battles. or give us a filter so we dont have to play that horrible thing.

If you derive your fun from "charging in", then this game is not exactly ideal for you, I'm afraid... -
The Pugliese underwater protection system

Thanks for the contribution; I had found that article, but I might need to give it another go! Yet... allow me to point out that the authors of the excerpt on the PoW kind of do make a comparison between the torpedo damage suffered by her and that suffered by USS Pennsylvania... But yes, in the end chance is always something that cannot be accounted for. And we'll never know exactly everything about what caused that precise extent of damage. -
Happens to me, too, but in a strange way. First, I no longer received notifications; then I received them again. But lately it was back to radio silence.

For every time someone makes such a request, WG delays further RN ships for another month.

The Pugliese underwater protection system
Historynerd replied to Historynerd's topic in Age of Armour Warships
But that is the point, in my opinion. Both ships were seriously hurt, and were seriously slowed down (and that would have been a huge factor had the Vittorio Veneto been attacked again); but the fact that on her the flooding was able to be contained thanks to continued electrical power supply, that in six minutes the speed began increasing again, and that her AA batteries were still pretty much in peak efficiency, to me points out that the Prince of Wales comes out a bit worse off in the comparison. Also, to me "continuous attack" seems a bit excessive; as far as I know, the first torpedo attack (in which PoW took said hit) ended around noon, and the next one did not develop till 12:20. -
One potentially interesting thing is that someone noticed a girl in the opening that doesn't look Japanese and wears somewhat different clothes. Does it mean that characters from other countries might appear as well? ...Or even foreign ships?

Oh, about this...

Yes, the naval enthusiasts out there said it is a Kagerou-class destroyer.

The Pugliese underwater protection system
Historynerd replied to Historynerd's topic in Age of Armour Warships
I've mentioned that precisely because the Vittorio Veneto at Gavdos (just before the Matapan night) was hit in the same, very vulnerable point (and with similar torpedoes, a Mark XII with a 176 kg warhead for the VV, and a Type 91 with a 150 kg warhead for the PoW). (Likewise, the damage suffered again by the Vittorio Veneto at the hands of the submarine HMS Urge on 14 December 1941 is rather similar to the one suffered by the Scharnhorst.) According to Bagnasco and De Toro, both ships took on large quantities of water, had both port shafts out of action, and their steering mechanisms were seriously damaged. Although it would be disingenuous not to point out that the Prince of Wales was subjected to further attacks that finished her off, it still has to be pointed out that on her the flooding proved uncontrollable and spread to some of the engine rooms, while on the Vittorio Veneto the crew did manage to stop it (with strenuous efforts, though) without it affecting the machinery spaces to any significant degree, eventually; this because on the Italian battleship only two generators out of twelve were knocked out, while the British battleship five out of eight stopped functioning. However, this damage has more to do with a ship's structure and her damage control organization than with her torpedo defense system; that area is just a natural weak point for all battleships. -
So all they can do if someone fires a torp at them is either intercept it with something or make it lose the target with decoys? I knew there was a reason for my not liking that much modern ships. Couldn't that have been something like a training warhead? Something that has explosive, but that has some doodad that ensures that the blast is mostly redirected away from the target or something? I know I'm grasping at straws here, but otherwise I don't get it...

Well, said firepower seemed rather imprecise and slow, according to the first officer (don't remember her name, the one that made an unwanted swim). Also, I don't know what class the instructor's ship was (I don't have that much interest in modern warships), but I was anyway surprised that it received notable damage... from a torpedo without a warhead.

By Admiral Nelson's lost arm, that's true! Who's the necromancer around here? -
Um... Are we allowed to? I don't remember well, but maybe in the past I was warned that it was kind of forbidden...

The Pugliese underwater protection system
Historynerd replied to Historynerd's topic in Age of Armour Warships
Sorry, but this excerpt is contradicted by the later work referenced here. In the areas where the system was at maximum depth, the blasts suffered from the torpedo detonations were usually absorbed rather well, with the bulkhead holding up sufficiently well. What you talk about might have happened following the ever-increasing warheads that were developed during the conflict, creating blasts too strong for its force to be redirected. In fact, when the Vittorio Veneto was torpedoed by the HMS Urge on 28 December 1941 (hit with a 340 kg warhead where the system was already thinning out towards the stern), both the curved and longitudinal bulkheads failed, which led to massive flooding (some 3000 tons of water) that included the No. 3 turret's magazine (however, although the ship's stern went down by some 2.2 meters, the list was negligible). However, even in the cases where flooding was substantial, the structures of the ship and the engine spaces held up well. And the Littorio-class ships proved able to keep going at respectable speeds, which is better than some foreign battleships did (like Scharnhorst - torpedoed by HMS Acasta on 8 JUne 1940 - and Prince of Wales - torpedoed by Japanese bombers on 9 December 1941, the former unable to do more than 20 knots, and the other almost crippled). -
In any case, anyone else surprised by the twist? Not a bad touch, in my humble & limited opinion...
-
As you said, a Western-made thing would naturally gravitate around the mentioned Hood, Bismarck, Iowa, and so on. So, is it surprising that it's going down the same road as other anime series before?

I think the "bot" issue was definitely shelved... the only bots we have to worry about are the guys who enter the match only to sit in their corner the whole time.

ARP Haruna : no interest : it is a copy of ARP Kongo

Destroyers are not OP, they are just Uncontested. (Plus a few balance musings)

As I said, my experience is fairly limited, and it'll be some time before I'll meet either a Hindeburg or a Zao. In any case, I did not mean simply angling, because I know that doing that in a cruiser against a BB is pointless; I meant continuing to turn, which I feel it might also be a good way to reduce hits suffered between 10 and 15K meters. When I meet someone like that, who does that and keeps shooting at me with HE, I always hesitate, because my aiming still needs improvements, and I fear that my shots will miss the target. But as I admitted, I may not be very far from the definition of a "cack handed BB player". As for devastating plunging fire... well, it has happened, but it doesn't always happen. So, death it may be, but not guaranteed death. But, I repeat, this is just my impression, based on what I saw; which is little, and does not go any further than Tier 8. I have yet to experience the higher Tiers.
