Well, can't argue with the logic, if one keeps in mind the implied disadvantage mentioned before. Still, a ship I'd definitely like to sail someday!

Interesting matchup in my head. One side: Yamato Other side: Baratheon/Lannister ships all carrying wildfire.

Amazing work, and very interesting; I was definitely looking forward to more information about these ships! I'd like to ask, am I interpreting the images wrong, or does the main belt cover only a fraction of her side? About these turrets... They probably had their reasons to put such tin can turrets around these guns, but it still leaves me rather baffled. Sure, the Italians never bothered that much to keep inside the Treaty limits (if ever), but at least I expect both the Trento and the Zara (whenever they'll come) to have rather sturdy turrets.

Pick for the first French premium ship.

Yes, the Italian 203 mm guns are definitely going to need some degree of buffing to their RoF. The Zara's Model 1927 not so much, since the ship is quite tanky and so it can do with a relatively long reload time; the Trento's Model 1924 absolutely. Those darned things were bloody nightmares; luckily only two cruisers out of seven got them.... -
German BBs+ tier 6 premium French BB Dunkerque stats in 0.5.9
Historynerd replied to Darth_Glorious's topic in Battleships
Am I wrong, or does it look like the Dunkerque's 130 mm guns are of little value in the AA role? EDIT: I was wrong, they work alright. However, in terms of AA power, she's rather weak, I fear... -
Some interesting info around the world

There were several classes of ships that the Marine Nationale classified as "torpilleurs", such as the Bourrasque, L'Adroit, and Le Hardi, smaller than the larger contre-torpilleurs and therefore more average. To me, it's a mere matter of naming conventions. The Regia Marina too classified its larger destroyers (such as the Leone- and Navigatori-classes) as "esploratori" (i.e. scouts) until 1938, yet they weren't that different in capability from ordinary destroyers, nor in intended roles. -

Yet they are know more to naval enthusiasts, who will probably feel differently sailing a La Fantasque- or a Bourrasque-class DD, rather than a Russian one. Pray tell me, what do you mean by "full-fledged DD"? Isn't a DD meant to perform a variety of roles, including defending bigger warships from airborne and underwater threats, and from attacks of enemy DDs? -

French DDs tended to be something more than shitty, I believe... -

Hmmm... let's not forget that initially the Dunkerques were meant to counter the Panzerschiffe... if I remember right, only the Strasbourg could be somewhat modified to try and make her a match for the Scharnhorst (and to react to the Italians starting to build the Littorios), by giving her thicker belt armour. Is it possible that this difference may mean that, if the Dunkerque is a premium, we'll have the Strasbourg in the regular tree, maybe in a higher tree? -
The chance that it might a different turn is always present, of course. But you have to admit it does add up. Besides, to me it sound right. Jon is taking an increasingly important role in the fight against the Others; it's poignant that his ancestry comes from both the North (the only ones who remember them coming) and the House of Dragons (who seem to be connected to what the White Walkers fear). Just my opinion here, though.

I'm late for the party. But no surprises here. It looks pretty much how I figured it would be.

PROPOSAL: Full German Capital Ships Line (BB/BC)
Historynerd replied to 1MajorKoenig's topic in Battleships
You have a point, but as the other ships on other trees show the influence of the Washington Treaty, we cannot ignore it. The issue with barbettes is a bit different if we talk about cruisers or about battleships. High caliber guns' turrets were exceedingly heavy (some weighed as much as a destroyer), and the barbettes were not just to protect the ammunition trunks, they were there also to sustain such tremendous weight. You cannot swap them like sneakers, so it's not wheter it's cheaper than building a new ship, it's about wheter the ship can take new guns and turrets. In the case of the Italian battleships, the weight increase was modest, so the structures and the barbettes could take it. What you suggest is something definitely more ambitious, -
Aesthetics aren't that important, not to mention that only the Kirov so far really comes close to the Italian cruisers in resemblance. In fact, I sail it also because at times I can pretend I am sailing an Italian light cruiser!

I never thought that it could work at Tier 7. Its armament is good but not spectacular (damage- and RoF-wise), its speed and protection are again decent but not enough to give it an edge over the heavy cruisers that it would have to face. But we are drifting OT, I'm afraid. -

I never thought that the D'Aosta could be Tier 6 material. I think that even before the Duca degli Abruzzi is adequate for that. -
It's true. I wonder why... Maybe I don't know where to look, but I can't figure out what this gun has that causes such a lackluster performance... Damn... I just realized that, if these figures are correct. the Italian 320 mm would've done a better job than the French gun. If so, I would not have wished for the Bretagne-class BBs to go and slug it out with their Italian counterparts...

I see about the penetration, but I was talking about the sheer alpha damage, which is something different. Maybe you have information that I don't, but from what I know the 340 mm doesn't seem such a bad weapon. It was held back by the fact that its initial top elevation was ridicolous (12°), but it doesn't seem that inferior to, say, the British 13.5-inch Mark V gun, which I think might have a good chance for appearing at Tier 5.

Well, I personally feel that one of those DDs wouldn't be bad... but that's my opinion. For all we know, they could put in the Lorraine. -
All true, However, they'll also pay with somewhat lower alpha damage, albeit a bit more than the German 28cm.

The Bretagne is the lead ship of her class, so it's unlikely we'll see her. The Waldeck-Rousseau was an armoured cruiser, which is a no-go with WG. Personally, I am inclined to believe it will be a destroyer. -

How about add an Ise-class BB in its late hybrid-CV design?

Biased poll is biased. Also, how about you search the forums and see if someone has already opened a topic about it, before making a new one?
