Right, that would help, too. Not that it's my impression that right now battleships are easily killable, both when I sail them and when I'm trying to kill them.
-
Exactly; perhaps in another topic I've already talked about HMS Kingston, which during the second battle of Sirte was hit either by a 15-inch or an 8-inch shell which didn't explode, and although it did cause quite some damage (the ship stopped dead in the water) it didn't make it founder before reaching Malta. Frankly, I am beginning to be tired of all these judgements being thrown around; not that I think we should keep our mouth shut (we are supposed to give feedback), but how about not being so definitive? "BBs are useless", "torpedoes are ruining the game", blah blah blah... perhaps I had the wrong impression, but things aren't supposed to be at least somewhat unbalanced in CBT, so that they might balance them finely? Btw, about the issue at hand, why don't we all wait for the USN battleships, and see how they perform, and how the IJN battleships perform against them? Perhaps we'll get another piece of the puzzle that we aren't seeing now.
-
Isn't it too early to start dwaring comparisons? Remember, we're still in the CBT, so some things are more than liable to change.
-
Then what about Gunslinger Girl? :-P It's interesting, though; I had not seen that there are ships with two possible modernizations (or is it "remodel"?). What's with Bismarck and torpedoes? Is it something like IRL when they put torpedo tubes on Tirpitz? And are they any good?
-
Alright, thanks for explaining it to me... I simply didn't understand where was the difference...
-
Alright, so her armor was better organized than in these earlier cruisers, but her belt was still thinner (38 vs 50-60 mm); and anyway even those older cruiser weren't that much protected, so no ship was really able to really brush off gunfire.
-
Bottom line is, I'm not sure Yubari was "better protected" than the earlier light cruisers... especially considering that the percentages of weight don't change the fact that she displaced less than any other, so the weight that could go to protection wasn't that much...
-
Sorry, but I don't understand; point should be, Yubari had a higher percentage of weight dedicated to armor because of saving in building the hull, right? Ok, but I fail to see why this should make the Yubari that much more resistant to gunfire... given that the armor scheme says it clearly, that at most her belt was 38 mm thick. How is that supposed to stop even small-caliber gunfire, given that 25 mm were considered to be enough only to stop splinters?
-
Sorry to disappoint you, but the values you've put for the 55km range pertain only to the coastal defence weapons; Bismarck's guns could only elevate to a maximum of 30° and their muzzle velocity was more like 820m/s, which gives the theoretical maximum range of 36.5 km that you mentioned. Anyway, what you say it's true, but it's not unlikely that, in clear and optimal conditions, they might decide to start firing at a farther range...
-
Alright... from what I gathered, secondary guns on BBs aren't that useful as of now, so people put in something else...
-
What is her outfit? Are you using the standard equipment (381mm and OTO) or have you outfitted her with something else? Anyway, forgive me, but it's damn right that she outclasses the Kongous, for obvious reasons...
-
I answered that in the dedicated topic... I'm really sorry, but I don't think it will work...
-
I'm sorry to say that this would be somwaht forced, in my opinion... after all, Buscaglia operated from land-based aircraft, which here are not present.
-
I'm not sure about the idea on range... I know it has a relative value, and that balance must take first place, but the Bismarck was outranged by both Littorio and Richelieu, which were the only other modern battleships with 15-inch guns. Even the KGV with her 14-inch guns was not outranged by much... This is simply because both the French and the Italian weapons gained range because of their higher muzzle velocity, which however increased their dispersion patterns.
-
No armour worth a damn? I disagree; against 152 mm guns it seems to have some degree of protection (and it is famous for it, because she was supposed to be just a protected cruiser, i.e. without a belt armour, but she had one nonetheless), which certainly shows when facing the faster yet virtually unprotected cruisers of Tier III-V, but perhaps we can't see it very well yet because the armor is bugged. Let's just wait and see, and then decide.

I read somewhere that they were removed in 1940, and somewhere else that they had been removed in the early 1930s; anyway, it seems that the reason was that it was concluded that cruisers didn't need torpedoes for battle, so they had to be removed. That's fine by me, btw; I'm perfectly happy with the sweet ten 203-mm guns she still got...
-
Um... wait a second, on the wiki it seems that Roma says Italy only in her library intro, not in her introduction... Besides, once you modernize (or what you call it) Littorio, she gets renamed Italia, which is rather apparent if you ask me. Anyway, if we get irritated by this, I'm afraid most anime series are off-limits to us... As for me, for as much as I understant it, I'm just glad that their stats aren't that bad, and that their equipment isn't trash, either (on Youtube I had the impression that lots of people use the OTO 152mm as main armament for cruisers).

If it's battleship you're focused in, I'd suggest the Nagato; not well suited for slugging it out at long distances, but at medium-close ranges it can really hurt anyone.

Hmmm... Land of the Stollen... not bad!

My fault I can't get a South Carolina from Tier 3? Don't worry, I'll go easy on them... I'll just kill six of them, then I'll let myself be sunk... XD -
They can look rather pitiful now, but since we're currently living in a "beefed-up" economical system, we might find out later that this is nothing to be sneezed at. At least, I hope so. But the 500 free exp is rather nice, IMHO.

Longest hits scored from a moving warship against a moving target
Historynerd posted a topic in Age of Armour Warships
So, we have a topic in which the matter of one of the longest hits scored by a warship on another (while both moving), namely by HMS Warspite against the battleship Cesare; the range was cited as being "approximately 26.000 yards", on 9 July 1940. A hit at a similar distance was scored by the German battleship Scharnhorst on HMS Glorious on 7 June 1940. However, recently I have found out that another ship had reportedly scored a similar hit at approximately the same distance; this ship was the Italian light cruiser Raimondo Montecuccoli (armed with eight 152 mm guns), against the minesweeper Hebe, during the naval engagement of Operation Harpoon, on 15 June 1942. It seems that, in one of the final fire engagements of that day, the Italian cruiser opened fire against the rather diminutive target (a small craft of some 815 tons and no longer than 75 meters); its captain reported that at the third salvo a hit was seen on the Hebe, while likewise the commander of the minesweeper reported that at that time his ship was hit by a 152 mm shell from "approx. 26'000 yards 170 right" (the last part meaning the bearing of the enemy ships), which exploded causing serious splinter damage and also a fire. Bearing in mind that the distance may have not been as great as reported (also because it would have been barely within the maximum theoretical range of an HE shell fired by those guns), that was surely a lucky hit, but a very notable one nonetheless, since it was against such a small target. I believe that the Montecuccoli could rightfully have a place amongst these "record" ships. -

Thank you, very interesting. Although, firing against a target ship is one thing, while firing against a true enemy might be another... -
