It's not me who might be offended. I just think that it's being too harsh on the OP. Perhaps it's this kind of behavior that makes some say that this community leans towards some toxicity...

Hey, c'mon, I think this is going too far. His statement made me roll my eyes too, but we should remember that the St. Louis is a rather... unbalanced ship, meaning that it's pretty much all about firepower and almost nothing else (low top speed, some protection), while other ships are a more balanced blend of firepower, speed and protection. It's rather understandable why some new player might find it frustrating. Of course, he should have had more patience, but this is no reason to go down so heavily on him.

While the St, Louis has excellent firepower (for a cruiser), its slowness and unimpressive maneuverability compensate this virtue in my opinion.

Actually, Spain's naval power was still seen as considerable on a later date. During the Virginius affair (a diplomatic crisis between the United States and Spain), a Spanish ironclad (wish I knew its name, but I found no sources detailing it) was in New York harbour; the US Navy, which had fell in a period of neglect and disrepair after the Civil War, admittedly didn't have anything that could stand up to her. In fact, an inquiry ended up making the startling discovery that even a naval war with a Latin American country would have seen the US as the weakest party. [Basics] This is not World of Tanks..
Historynerd replied to Vincinzerei's topic in Newcomers' Section
I agree. -
I have a doubt, though... Are the 90 mm AA guns (I guess they are either the same or similar to those mounted on the Duilio and Littorio classes) suitable for anti-ship duties? They had the depression, alright, but do they have the punch? 90 mm is a pretty small caliber even against destroyers...

[Basics] This is not World of Tanks..
Historynerd replied to Vincinzerei's topic in Newcomers' Section
Staying together is not equal to do a lemming train; perhaps I should have explained myself better. For me. the lemming train is when all but one or at maximum two ships of a team go towards one flank. This is what I am completely against. And moreover, I was talking about normal games; my opinion about the lemming train in Domination is still not well formed. I have nothing against, however, coordinated gameplay, provided it is not as extreme as the lemming train. Sorry, should have clarified. -

I disagree with the lemming trains; we do have them, and in my opinion they have a better chance of bringing you defeat rather than victory. Mostly because in many instances a lemming train is unable to push decisively or fast enough, before the enemy has reached the base and started capping. Just my opinion, though, based on my experience. I might be wrong about it. -
Without resorting to a spotting plane to relay corrections, I believe that at that distance it would've been impossible for the Yamato to spot the fall of shot and correct its fire accordingly...

I don't remember where exactly (I'll try to find the reference), but I read somewhere that when they tried firing across the bridge on a battleship with staggered turrets, the result was less than positive, as it caused some degree of damage. For this reason it was determined that doing that would be restricted only to emergencies. That may or may not have been the case with España, but to me it's telling. But of course, there are lots of things that happened IRL that would never happen in the game. Vittorio Veneto (I think, perhaps it was Littorio) lit on fire its own seaplane (on its catapult) when firing with its rear turret, Bismarck's guns caused its radars to malfunction... we won't have any of that in game. So, I believe it's up to debate... Also, I do agree that the España class looks too weak to stand at Tier IV, all considered. In my opinion, she should stay at Tier III.

Nobody is against you. We are simply stating that, with things like this, there is no possible way that the Swedish ships can form a separate tree, and therefore will be in the game as a part of a mixed one. This is all.

So did the Regia Marina, too.

There you go. XD XD XD XD XD

You do that, you will gain an enemy that day...
-
Har de har har... Besides, I fail to see how it would be possible to use this in an online forum...
-
Well, as an Italian I can only share your feelings. But until I and my fellow Italian players get a dedicated section of the forum where I will be able to speak Italian, I am content in speaking English and try to give a tiny bit of feedback anyway, so... hang in there.
-
You can't use Hungarian here, only English, sorry. It will be possible to speak your own language only when a proper section of the forum is created.

It's different when it's about French, eh? Joking, if you can't tell.

Anyone know when he will be added Bismark?
Historynerd replied to sanducosmin55's topic in General Discussion
Actually, Littorio's guns had superior muzzle velocity - 850 mps vs 820 mps for Bismarck. So did originally those of the Richelieu (830 mps). Sorry for being a spoilsport. Well, I'd like to break a lance for the Swordfish; it may have been an obsolete aircraft with performance that seemed ridicolous, yet it did the job. It shows that perhaps not taking into account the old fighters may be a mistake. Besides, it was a pretty nice shot the one that managed to hit the rudder and sealed Bismarck's fate. A crap aircraft would have been unable to do this. With all due respect, Churchill, as a former First Lord of the Admiralty, was always poking his nose in naval matters, and not always with good results. He first championed a project to modify some Royal Sovereign-class battleship, to improve their armor and anti-torpedo bulges and their weaponry, and send them into the Baltic to disrupt German commerce. Way to throw away some battleships that, albeit old, could still be useful. His insistence at sending a squadron in the Far East, too weak to fight the Japanese (not his fault, because Germany and Italy were having a good time, so they had to defend first the North Sea and the Mediterranean), believing that they would serve either as a deterrent, intimidating the Japanese into not declaring war, or as a fleet in being, believing that the conditions were the same and they could be for the Japanese what the Tirpitz was for the Royal Navy, only ended up in sealing the fate of two good ships (true, we can say this after seeing the results, but it seems that some objections made when Churchill decided were pretty valid and he didn't gave them enough consideration). About Tirpitz, I'm not sure, but to me it looks like a bit of overkill. How many operations, bomber raids and whatnot did it take to free the UK from this threatening ship? One thing for sure - this battleship attracted a lot of resources to be finally sunk. -
At the risk of sounding obnoxious of patronizing, I'd like to suggest you to try out the carriers you are so dead set against. It might make for an interesting experience. I'm saying "might" because I myself have never played any carriers, not before, not now. I am utterly ignorant on how they perform from the firing side. In any case, I fundamentally disagree with your point, and I believe that no matter how much you howl, they won't go. If this irritates you, sorry, but when I can't get any fun in a game, I simply say "well, it's not for me", and try another; it's not like I blame the game, its developers and its company because they did not provide with exactly the right game I pretend.

[Feedback] Please remove permanent turret destruction?
Historynerd replied to _GGHF_'s topic in Archive
If this is what you think, well, you are free to think so. As for myself, I still don't agree with you, I'm afraid. Permanent turret destruction in my opinion should remain in the game. -
I think he refers to the speed of the destroyers themselves, not of the torpedoes they fire...
-
True, the French gun is decidedly longer ranged, although at a cost of high dispersions. I know that the 320 mm guns have a similar reputation, but as I said in the Italian tech tree thread I have found evidence that suggests that some of the dispersions, other than the gun's characteristics (coupled with the uneven qualities of the shells), were due to the firing method (in which, to straddle a target more easily, the turrets would purposefully fire very open salvoes by turning the outer turrets slightly left and right relatively to the target indication). In the end, though, I admit that the French guns seem quite better; however, IRL this could have been compensated to a degree by their inferior reliability, not to mention number (8 against 10).

If wishing for useless threads spamming means being a forum nazi, then I guess I am one. Anyway, do whatever the heck you want. Sorry if I'd rather have a forum that is neat and orderly, and not full of people making such a mess that is impossible to navigate, when someone is looking around for something. Now that I think about it, perhaps I might contact the website's owner and point out the information about Montecuccoli, so that a calm and objective research for confirmation of its claim can be engineered.

Alright, perhaps I went a little overboard there. Still, you haven't answered yet to my question: why open a new thread? Here are some threads explicitly dedicated to her: http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/15312-hms-warspite-a-beauty-and-a-beast/ http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/12002-warspites-gun-range/ http://forum.worldofwarships.eu/index.php?/topic/12112-warspite-appreciation-thread/
