How to defend yourself against DD?
Ectar_ replied to Wischmob_von_Eimer's topic in General Discussion
Whoever is looking for the kill sets the stage to their liking. If you're a Cruiser looking to kill a Destroyer you don't wait till he's within 5km of you....If you're a Destroyer looking to kill a Cruiser you don't sail in a straight line towards him in open water, allowing yourself to be spotted from 10km ou t (remember Cruisers and certain Battleships come with spotter planes). Of course the advantage is going to be with the Destroyer when it's closer to something it wants to shoot. That advantage however only works if the target isn't ready for him. Torpedoes can be avoided by clever use of steering and speed control. You can then counter the Destroyer by blowing him out of the water because your guns were ready. If players feel "ambushed" by Destroyers then good! That's the entire point of that class! It's like complaining about how a Battleship hit you from far away... That the entire primary point of how that vessel fights. Battleships shoot from range, Destroyers shoot from close. How do you avoid either? You watch what they're doing and react to it by using the minimap. "Oh that Battleship is shooting at me, time to break off, zig-zag and make it harder for him to land his shots" "Oh there is a Destroyer lurking around that point in the map, best not sail too close to that area or if I do, be ready to dodge his torps and have my guns ready" Both scenarios you're only going to be prepared for if you've been paying attention to the minimap and you can see how the battle is going/where the enemy ships are. Granted. -
How to defend yourself against DD?

If you have a Cruiser or Battleship fighting a Destroyer on 1 on 1 terms, the advantage is with the Cruiser or Destroyer. The advantage is only with the Destroyer when it's able to approach you without you either noticing it, or shooting at it. Destroyers are opportunists, there is no way in hell they're going to draw up beside and you try to out shoot you. I'm sorry but anyone who seriously feels that Destroyers need their torpedoes nerfed, clearly doesn't play much Destroyers. They have the lowest survivability rate by quite a substantial amount. In most situations, Destroyers are spotted by team mates or planes giving Battleships plently of time to shoot at them if required and if the're close. 9 times out of 10 if I'm hit by Destroyer torpedoes when in a Battleship, it's because my attention has been else where and the Destroyer has done exactly as he should. If people don't want to deal with torpedo damage, they need to start paying attention to the mini map and reassess their target priority. -

How to defend yourself against DD?
Ectar_ replied to Wischmob_von_Eimer's topic in General Discussion
You're a cruiser, he's a DD. The minute he's spotted and you see he drops smoke you should have turned away and disengaged. He's dropping smoke to protect him and also bait you in. How you then deal with him is dependant on what tier he is and if he's American or Japanese. At higher tiers American Destroyers will use their guns to harass and their torpedoes to get the kill the VII Mahan shoots 6.5km max and the VIII Benson is 8.2km. For the Japanese the Hatsuharu can fire 10km and the Fubuki can shoot 15km. They'll spam out torpedoes and use them to force you into turning out or in thus reducing the guns you can bring to bear. The short answer is to take on a DD as a cruiser you need range and vision. When you're within 5km and there is a smoke cloud, you're in the DD's comfort zone and getting out of that situation is going to come down to focused shots (and making sure they all land) and giving yourself space to dodge the torpedoes. < Cruiser < v ^ Destroyer Battleship v ^ > Carrier > The above crude text image is how this game basically work. Each class has a hard counter that in most (not all) 1 on 1 situations will result in a predictable victor given both players are equally skilled. The only thing that is going to have a major factor in these engagements is at what range you're fighting at. Equal tier Destroyers or Battleships are just as capable of taking out each other. The advantage is with the Battleship as it has higher health, a health recovery ability, usually a spotter plane and on top of that, secondary armaments. The Destroyer has smoke and agility. At lower tier it's a very bad idea for a Destroyer to take on a Battleship unless it either doesn't know you're sneaking up on him, or you already know the Battleships is aiming his main guns the other way. If you try to sail towards a Battleship in a Destroyer and you have the Battleships full attention, you've generally got no chance. If you're playing Battleships and dying to torpedoes all the time, there is 2 mains reasons. These reasons are true for everyone and ever Battleship player can control this. 1 - You're not paying attention to the minimap either where the enemy Destroyers are, or where the enemy torpedo planes are. 2 - You're relying on the audio warning about torpedoes. When you see torpedoes bombers coming your way, focus your secondaries, start turning and be ready for them. When you see where the enemy destroyers are, dear got don't let them get within 5km of you. That pretty much means you're not going to have time to avoid them. Don't let them get close as that's where they're going to sink you. Yes, other ships may be shooting at you, but when a Destroyer appears within 5km that is now your immediate threat and where you should be focusing on. I play Cruisers, Battleships and Destroyers. I'll happily try my luck against Battleships when I'm in a Destroyer and have a lot of success, it's not easy though. When I'm in my Battleship or Cruiser I'll happy eat Destroyers for breakfast. Not because they're easy prey, but because I know what they need to do in order to try and sink me, and I counter it. -
Hotspot :- fundamentally unfair to carriers?
Ectar_ replied to warspite666's topic in General Discussion
This. Hotspot encourages teams to engage. The split spawns mean that players need to choose which direction you go. The middle is usually very dangerous as you're crossing 2 groups of enemy ships. As a carrier player you need to learn to move your ship. Too many carrier players just park behind a island and stay there all game. Yes you need to watch your squadrons, but when they're taking up to 2 mins to return and rearm you have plently of time to take stock of what's happening on the minimap. Don't get tunnel vision and be prepared to sail with the fleet (or at least the biggest bulk of friendly ships you can find). They're far more likely to be able to protect you and any enemy ships wanting to shoot at you will have to also deal with your team mates. Too many times I see carrier players acting like they're just in control of the planes and totally ignoring they have a ship to control also. A lone carrier is easy prey for most ships. Destroyers will run you down, Battleships can engage you at range and so can cruisers. The best way to avoid that is not being a lone carrier. -

Indeed, especially in CBT. I mean if we didn't patch stuff and fix stuff what kinda game would we have? Personally I'm glad to see fixes for things can be fixed quickly, being applied quickly. I know there is other issues that players may feel need urgent attention but I hope those players can understand if it was a simple quick fix, we would do so. I can't remember it all as I was just leaving the office when it was announced however, That was definitely something on the list of fixes

It's another bug fix

After 3.1 does the Warspite now need a buff?
Ectar_ replied to xBamBamx's topic in General Discussion
The Berlin trio are an exception to the norm and I wouldn't be surprised if they are slightly adjusted. With regards to the Warspite, the only real thing that matters in the end is what we pull from our servers regarding the ships performance. Remember there is no current decision made yet regarding it's availability with OBT and it's price certainly isn't set in stone for now. CBT is a testing phase and there is still plenty of time to change things. Comparing Warships premiums directly with World of Tanks premium is always going to be skewed because with World of Tanks you don't just have 2 other vehicles of same tier to compare to. You have 6 or even 9 or 10 depending on the tier and type of vehicle. -
The Closed Beta is in full swing and after delivering a major update 0.3.1, we are bringing you a patch that remedies some issues reported by you in the forums. Thank you for helping us make the game better! Full news article

After 3.1 does the Warspite now need a buff?
Ectar_ replied to xBamBamx's topic in General Discussion
Indeed, her shots now have less spread. turret time is a frustration but you just need to factor it in when thinking about what you're about to do and where you want to go. With the secondaries fully buffed, you don't have to worry about tier 4 and 5 destroyers. Once they close within 7km they'll get lit up, set on fire almost immediately and all you need to do is doge their torpedoes. If they get closer than 5km then shoot them. Tier 6 destroyers and up deserve your attention with your main guns. Warspite's secondaries tear through lower tier destroyers. If you have the same game in the Warspite as you do in the New Mexico, what is left is the Warspite player having double the credits for that match. Remember the Warspite is a premium ship, it's not a normal branch ship. This means you can't truely compare it to the American and Japanese tier VI battleships as it's not suppose to be as good as the Fuso or the New Mexico when both are fully upgraded. If the Warspite was "better" then everyone would want to buy it and that would be "pay to win". The Warspite will hold up well against either ship, it all just depends on engagement ranges and who lands their shots. - Both situations come with practise, skill and judgement. If you're trying to engage a Fuso when it's already shooting at you from it's max range, then expect some punishment as you close. From 7km in your secondaries will be lighting him up from nose to tail then it's all about making your shots count. I'll make my own video at some point to show players how to use the Warspite properly and how to get the best from it. -

WG staff posts should be dev posts. Not Burundi community coordinator posts
Ectar_ replied to GospodinMijo's topic in General Discussion
It's a WG staff post tracker, not a Dev post tracker. It's like this for 2 reasons: 1 - No developers post on the EU forums. Ev1n is a Publishing Producer and Tuccy is a Product Specialist 2 - We need to have a way to highlight staff posts for regular threads also. To see important threads/replies from a WG staff member in a language you can read it's pretty easy, all you need to do is go to a sub section and look for the WG logo to the left of a thread. 3 - The tracker works based user groups, it can't display posts based on what language you read the forums in. -
I've faced off against a Des Moines on 3 different times in the Montana. Each time they've died to a single salvo. Granted the Iowa is the tier match to the Des Moines, however it's not taken a full salvo to kill the Des Moines each time (usally the 2nd or 3 turret barrages have the kill with the 4th shot hitting the wreck). Staggered fire is the key here to make your shots count. I'm pretty confident I could 1 on 1 a Des Moines each time in the Iowa just as easily.

It could be called rhino and the next update could be called koala. It's just a number, mainly for internal tracking over anything else. Try not to read too much into it.

Dependant per ship, what the shot arc is like and how far/close you're shooting from. There is no exact rule of thumb. AP and HE are both good for plunging fire on ships with flat decks, ships with more angled decks/super structure are likely to be harder to pen with plunging fire and then you're better to aim for the sides. The North Carolina (VIII Battleship) for example has very high arcing fire that's noticeable, the Pepsicola (VII Cruiser) has a much more flatter arc. Even when a ship is closer the North Carolina's shells still seem to have a good bit of air time to them.

Cleveland calibre is 152mm (6 inch) - The Fuso's thickest armour is 305mm which is going to be on it's belt. if you're within 10km range you want to be switching HE as it's unlikely you're going to get a lot of pens through it's armour. Remember battleships were designed to trade off mainly against other battleships. The 6 guns of the Fuso are 360mm and will tear through you. Ideally you want to AP him at max range and go for plunging fire to break through the deck. < Cruiser < v ^ Destroyer Battleship v ^ > Carrier > At equal tier a cruiser should struggle/not win against a Battleship. within 10km aim for the superstructure or it's guns directly or switch to HE

Bug fixes mainly, it's not a feature patch bringing any major content

We increased server capacity over the weekend to help with the surge of players, the slow loading times for battle is being investigated. I'd ask that if you're having issues since 3.1 to please use the feedback section to help us gather all reports. If there is already an existing topic there, please just add to it rather than create a new topic.

Is the target popping in and out of visibility in smoke?
-
Warspite is amazing at tier VI, just don't try and engage the Fuso at long range as that's where the Fuso is strong. Once you learn to counter the slow turret traverse it's a great ship to play. If you want to zig and zag all the time and have turrets always available the play US Destroyers or Cruisers. The New Mexico doesn't have lighting quick turrets aswell and you can't say that's no good either. Gun range isn't everything.
-
You should still be able to target a new target by aiming the cursor at them in torpedo view and hitting X. Sadly there isn't a tab target option for now.
-
That exactly one of the reasons to remove it, to prevent players from trying to abuse the information to try and end up as top tier ships all the time.

Really this is where we are now? Getting salty because a closed beta patch for a free to play game is 24 hours after another region? Come on sir, don't go down this road and make out this is something to have an issue over. It will be available for EU tomorrow, 12 hours won't make a blind bit of difference regarding what someone on a different server region is doing.
