Carriers are OP, Battleships are OP, Cruisers are OP, Destroyers are OP

Saddly WG doesn't take the PvE battles seriously...
Ectar_ replied to tacomaco's topic in General Discussion
Whilst that is true at one point in earlier testing the accuracy of the AI was pretty much pin point laser guided. It was quite common for PvE matches to end up right down to the wire because the AI ships were crewed by what felt like T-100's. Many tester ships were sank during this phase. It was fun. -

The PvE option in Warships is there as a training option for players to help learn the ships, it was never intended to be a full stand alone (and much easier) game mode that would offer similar rewards to PvP. Everyone has the ability to improve their skill in any game, all it takes is time and practise. If you don't put the time in, you won't improve. If you're already admitting defeat and saying you won't get better there isn't much else I can say about that. With anything that requires skill you can only get better by repeating it and learning from it. We're not "forcing" players into a game mode they don't like, this is the game as is designed and the game mode you want isn't a main feature. It's a bit like being unhappy we don't have more RPG elements. We have never presented Warships as having a fully immersive PvE system, nor have we ever stated it was a main focus of the game. It's great that Armoured Warfare has a PvE system, but that's a game by a different developer and what they're doing isn't relevant to World of Warships. I'm truly sorry if you disagree with the direction of the game here but Tanks, Warplanes and Warships have always been designed around PvP battles as the core gameplay mechanic and there is no plans to ever change that. We're comfortable in what our games offer to our players and PvE battles are not planned to be a main focus or alternative for people who don't like PvP. -
In a match without Carriers, the Battleships are normally the ones left standing. They have the HP advantage over Cruisers, damage advantage over Cruisers and have the heal over time to get health back. for dealing with Destroyers they just need to keep out of range Indeed, I feel it's time to put this topic to bed. /thread closed.

You're asking for advice, I'm giving general advice and not going to go into specific encounters as there is going to be situations where you can't do much. Just like someone saying "What do I do when I'm within 2km from a destroyer?". The Arkansas Beta will be a target for carrier players just like the Aoba and Omaha are always a target for Battleship players (easy to penetrate their citadels). I agree it's not fun when they're top tier, again that's a matchmaker issue and not a balance issue for the class and certainly not a reason to remove the entire class!
-
If you have plans coming at you from port and starboard, you should have been turning to face one of those squadrons already and manually tagging one with your AA to spread their aim. If you have an Arkansas you've played CBT so you should have at least some experience with having torpedoes shot at you and how to avoid them. If a carrier player is able to crisscross you like that and you're sailing in a straight line still, then you're not watching the map! Seriously you know the thread of the bombers so they should be your primary focus until they've dropped. Bringing up individual situations to try and justify there is an issue with a ship, isn't a good example because in your mind, you get sunk, in other people's mind, they'd avoid it (and it's not just saying this, it's because they do seriously know how to avoid it and react). Now I'm not saying you'll avoid every single torpedo, but with practise you'll take less hits than you would and will soon learn not to fear torpedo bombers as much as you did. It all comes with time and practise.
-
That's not an issue with carriers, than's an issue with matchmaking and the matchmaker is something that can be adjusted also. Matchmaking isn't designed to always have "like for like" teams. - Again if there is an imbalance it will be noticed in the server stats. Lots of players are new to carrier and torpedo gameplay in general, as anyone who has played for a while in CBT knows, being able to avoid torpedoes comes with time and practise. Just like knowing when to cap or try to finish off an enemy. You're about to go through a phase of having lots of new players who have no understanding of the game that the CBT and Alpha testers have. Knee jerk reactions to how the game works right now is not sensible feedback. People need to experience the way the game works, learn from it and adapt.
-
Before this kicks off any further I'm going to nip this in the bud and leave a few important points. I'd like to ask forum regulars to link to this post regarding any future "Carriers are OP" statements. The game is coded so that you'll never have more than 2 carriers per team. Carrier's can't platoon with another Carrier. Carriers when within range of a ships guns, are dead. It's the same as when they're in torpedo range of a destroyer (top tip, close the distance to about 2-3km as they'll probably dodge torps at 5km) During OBT (and even after release) there is still the potential for ship statistics to be changed to help with balancing. The trick to dealing with carriers is that you need to keep an eye on the minimap. The ships you're shooting at are unlikely to cripple you, but torpedo planes that you're not paying attention to will. - It's all about threat assessment and reacting to what is the immediate danger. - With practise and good manual AA assignment you can either avoid all the torpedo's fired at you or at least take the minimum amount of damage. Carriers will not be removed from the game. Asking for any ship class to be removed because you've had a few tough matches against players good with that class, is not feedback that's going to be considered. - If there is a drastic imbalance in the power of a certain ship or class, this will be easily spotted when we pull data from the servers. Right now with everyone starting fresh, many new players are going to have to deal with Alpha and Beta players who've been playing certain classes for a long time (and are very good). If you truely think a certain class is super OP, then try it for yourself. I expect to see you duplicate the results if you feel it's that easy.

Not tomorrow no. The cut off dates mentioned for eligibility for the content they're related to. It's not the dates for when CBT ends. We'll have a different article to announce the closure of CBT and opening of OBT and all that entails.
-
I really hope someone bookmarks this as it's going to be an important message going forward. Until something is a portal article, any dates are subject to change. I really shouldn't have to keep saying this to players yet I have to do this for every product, for every rumor, for every update. When it's a portal article it's official and it's locked it. When it's an employee posting on a forum (be it Developer, Producer, Community Manager) any dates can still be subject to change. There is a very good reason why you'll never find me quoting dates. It's not because I don't know, it's because I know it's not confirmed until that portal article is live and we want to notify all our players.

Open beta in free to play games differs from "boxed games" because at the open beta stage it's available to everyone. Most games don't do open beta, they have either closed beta with NDA restrictions or closed beta without NDA restrictions that have limited access (hence the "closed" part of it). An open beta is usually a final stage with either a release candidate or pre-release candidate that is opened up for stress testing and to gather final numbers from a larger audience. When a free to play game goes to "open beta" it's essentially a soft release because the game is then available to every single player at no cost. The entire game content currently available is open to players, it's not like we just go to OBT with tier 1 and 2. There is no buy-in, there is no pre-purchase required and there is no "If you want to play this later, it will cost you". In OBT you don't have to spend a penny if you don't want to. Our game is free to play and it can be enjoyed by players, for free for however long they want. Now regarding the date for OBT... I will say now what I always advise players. - Until there is an official announcement on the portals, don't take any messages as confirmation. If the source is a WG employee then it's possibly correct, however if only 1 person says something which you'd expect to be common knowledge, then perhaps wait until a more formal announcement is made. Advising players of major info like OBT dates is something that would require a post on our portal. I appreciate that some of you would like to know information ahead of time, and I also appreciate that some of you will say "But on this forum it says here....". I have to point out however that no region has yet published any official portal articles yet to confirm dates. When we're ready to let players know, you'll know and there won't be any speculation. EU players have the same info as RU testers. You're not testing anything different. The difference is that EU players appreciate the NDA and understand they're not supposed to talk about things they shouldn't. I suggest you drop this topic immediately with regarding to trying to compare regions and what's available as everyone can see how well the RU WoT supertest is at keeping information internal. The entire point of the supertest is that you're testing something which isn't supposed to be known to the public and when it is to be known to the public it's for WG to announce that, not you. Please don't pretend that you're testing something different to other regions. Supertests across all regions test the same content, the only difference is that some regions know not to talk about that content till it moves to public test. I can also 100% confirm that feedback is not just based on the RU test, especially when the RU test isn't necessarily the most populated servers or had the most concurrent players. I will not stand for any cross region flaming on these forums or baiting. The "we know more than you do" comments are petty they're not appreciated and players trying to wind up other regions will be shut down hard and their forum posting rights here will be removed. You'll have a long time to wait for that cup of tea.

Patch numbers don't always indicate the difference between a beta and a release. We could number a patch 0.5 the next one 0.8 and then the next one 2.0. Alternatively we could call an update "Lollypop" and the next one Ice Cream Sandwich" The numbering/naming is an internal tracker, nothing more. There is no universal rule for any games which means you can't be a release patch unless your patch number is 1."something"
-
When OBT is announced, this will be a major announcement on our portal. Dripping information region by region or at different times is not what we want for a big announcement like this. Please be patient and we'll update you all when we're ready to talk about it.

Greetings players! Thank for you taking part in the closed beta test for update 0.3.1 we apologize if you're experiencing problems. To allow easier navigation and orientation of this section, please be aware of the following rules: Avoid Off-Topic posts and threads. Check if the bug is already reported. If it is, add your report to the existing thread. For bugs regarding graphics or game crashes, add a listing of dxdiag file in spoiler. For map bugs such as visual issues with the environment, or a location where your vehicle is unexpectedly stuck, please add a screen shot of the location so it's easily identifiable. Try to provide as much information as possible about what you were doing in-game when the bug appeared. Regards

Ok guys we need to clarify a few things here: 1 - The best chances for any player to get access is to sign up whenever the portal page is open, or to sign up for the news letter. Even when portal sign ups are closed we are still taking in groups of players who have signed up for the newsletter 2 - Please don't message Wargaming Staff via PM asking for a Closed Beta Key. This includes forum PM's and contact via fansites like reddit. We are not giving out CBT Keys to individual players this way as that becomes a ridiculous system to manage and our mailboxes would get quickly flooded. Some keys may be given to YouTubers or Twitch streamers to distribute but that comes from us contacting those players after we've been checking out their content (And we have a huge list of people we're watching). We don't want people to use the fact they're giving away beta keys to be the sole reason they attract an audience - Already some people have becoming reliant on this and when their allocation of keys is gone, they're immediately asking for more. I'm afraid we don't have an unlimited supply of keys to support this. We know there is a huge interest in the game and in getting access to the game but you have to remember there is only a limited amount of server slots and it's intentional that not everyone can play right now (That's one of the main points of a "closed" beta test). 3 - Please stop asking/begging other players for keys, saying you'll pay for them, or filling every thread with things like "Huh, at least you have access, I've been trying for XXXX" "Why didn't I get access and XYZ did?" etc etc - There is more people NOT in the Beta than there is is IN the Beta. This means players who are not in CBT make up the majority. We know it sucks to the people that don't have access but constantly being a negative element in threads to just make a point you don't have access right now, doesn't help anyone. If players continue to make posts like that, all that will happen is your post will be deleted. The game will be free to play on launch, before that we will have an Open Beta Test, none of your progress from Closed Beta will transfer into the live version.

Before posting here please, read this article. I've just had to remove about 8 posts with players saying they can't log in. The public test starts this Friday on 19 June at 18:30 CEST This is the very first bit of information in the article.... This topic and the other topics in this section are specifically to gather feedback once you have played on the test server. Please keep your replies on topic and relevant to the test.

Meanwhile on RU forums , patch 0.4.0 or somethin....
Ectar_ replied to Dbars_eu's topic in General Discussion
We share a lot of information with our Supertesters. Information that is protected under NDA and the EU guys respect that. The Warships EU Supertesters are an amazing bunch of guys who do an amazing job. When we're ready to share information with the public we do so officially. If something is posted then taken down, that's a pretty obvious statement that the information was posted in error and should not have been posted in the first place (otherwise it wouldn't be taken down). -
Guys, I know it's a ocean based game but please don't act so salty. We appreciate all player feedback but please remember that feedback doesn't mean we will implement everything that everyone suggests to us. We're in a testing phase of the game and player views are important to helping us shape the game. If you have issues with any other of our games, please don't bring that attitude to this forum.
