WG's newest trick, killing you when you're not actually dead.

Umm, off-hand I'd tell you to start by looking at the gun calibers. USN secondaries at those tiers were all dual-purpose 127mm guns. DD guns, basically. Japanese usually relied on 152mm... and 155mm when using Mogami turrets. At tier 9 and 10 it's really the 155mm Mogami turrets you're looking at to have the longest ranges. And given the range they have as primary guns it's not out of line.

Might be worth pointing out that the last patch also buffed DDs by giving them easy to get Last Stand. This makes it much harder for cruisers who actually get their guns trained on a destroyer to take it down. Given how elusive high tier DDs can be, this really does no favors. Maybe radar will offset things back somewhat...

Myoko is tier 7, Izumo is tier 9. Within matchmaking range. Working as intended.

Location data of visible ships should be send/received only.

Situational Awareness for the win. If you're a DD and you don't have it, you're doing it oh so very wrong. Another point... if you pop smoke, everyone can see the smoke. That's a tell-tale of a destroyer's presence. Popping smoke when nobody's seen you is just plain dumb and I, as a predominantly cruiser/battleship driver totally approve of dumb destroyers giving themselves away like that. The other posters have already pretty much said the rest of my piece, I think, so... -
I'd say it's too much of a nerf to the Shima. We all know they might be a little... too much... right now... but that might be too much of a swing in the other direction.

Fire and flooding are the bane of battleships. Keep this in mind that until very high tier flooding is always the most dangerous of the two. ALWAYS repair if you start taking flood damage, UNLESS you are about to get torpedo'ed again. In that case, wait. Fires... one fire? Let it burn unless you'd die if you do. Two or more fires, look around you first. Are you about to be attacked by something that's going to get you flooding or more burning? If yes, hold onto repair. If no, go ahead and stop the bleeding. Those are the rules of thumb for when you should use repair to stop fires/flooding. One other thing about torpedos... on cruisers and battleships it's always better to take a torpedo in the mid-section. Better odds of not flooding and absorbs more torpedo damage. Destroyers, on the other hand, take _extra_ damage last I checked. DD taking torp in midsection is bad. So if you can't avoid a torpedo entirely, see if you can engineer getting hit in the midsection instead. Stern hits are particularly BAD, mind, because you might lose steering. As for getting hits on the enemy, there are two things that help. The first is to try to aim at the waterline when you're using AP against cruisers/battleships. As a battleship you want those shells to hit engine rooms and the like, which usually sit at or under the waterline. Moreover, shots that hit the water short of the target still travel underwater some distance and can punch through the underwater section of the ship and explode inside it. Against DDs you want to use HE, but do NOT hesitate to fire AP on them, especially if you have AP loaded and are going to switch to HE. Let them have it. The second thing is to understand that there are some tell-tales to how fast a ship is going, where they're going and whether they're turning. Pay attention to the ship smoke and learn how far back it goes when a ship's at full, half, etc, speed. Pay attention to whether he starts to turn (and while it comes with experience, try to get in his head... WHY is he turning is an important thing to understand because it tells you whether he's going to commit to the turn entirely or not) and learn how to adjust your aim to land hits where they'll be. And take advantage both of the minimap to see the relative directions between you and him and the ship wake behind him to see whether he's moving towards, away or parallel to you. And adjust your shot accordingly. Once you learn these skills and get some practice, you'll be accused of being a filthy aimbotter in no time!

SSDs are the answer because WG are total idiots about how they store WoWs on harddrive. There's better ways of storing the data for easy retrieval. Instead, every little element in the game seems to be its own separate file, which has dire performance consequences. Of course SSDs won't suffer much in that case because they have little performance penalty when forced to do a lot of random seeks... a traditional hard drive, with spinning platters, just groans in pain trying to keep up with that crap...

I'M a bit dissapointed! wows is not ewen near ww2.. :P it shoud be! you told!

Uh.... no. Naval strategy very much took into account the battleships that were around. Yamato actually did get to fire its main weapons at the USN, though admittedly pretty much only in one engagement. Look up the Battle off Samar, one of the engagements of the Battle of Leyte Gulf. As for the Bismarck, I call it idiotic employment of strategic assets that doomed it. Using a battleship as a convoy raider? Um, yeah, genius move there. Couple being alone to then getting hit by a lucky shot in the rudder and it was doomed. As for the Graf Spee, it's not actually a battleship by anybody's definition so it doesn't count. (it's basically a heavy cruiser with bigger guns than usual, a cruiser killer in fact, but it would go down fast if it went to the battleline against british battleships) Look at the effect the Tirpitz had in british naval operations for a good example as to why BBs weren't useless. Now, if you come tell us carriers took the crown from battleships... yeah, they did. Especially in the pacific. But that's partly because carriers had more offensive power than a battleship once one took into account the range they could operate from the target and the fact they could do so without being directly in the line of fire. Battleships were hoarded as strategic assets until and unless there was a critical role/mission for them. There's a reason the two only battleship on battleship engagements in the Pacific were in Guadalcanal and Leyte Gulf... they were both pivotal moments. The former was all about who would have the forward momentum from then on, the latter was the Now Or Never moment for Japan's Decisive Battle doctrine to play out and failure to attempt to stop the US landings in the phillipines would mean they wouldn't have the fuel to run their navy anyway. -
Please consider moving the captain skill "last stand" from level 2 back to level 4!
ScratxNeko replied to DrProPain's topic in General Discussion
The way I see it, if you aren't picking up torpedo expertise AND last stand before moving on, you're doing it wrong. It may delay getting the tier 5 skill but it's not a mandatory skill to excel anyway... and it's way too damn useful. Just get the +HP skill if you aren't happy with any of the other choices. BTW, AFT still works for destroyers, too. I think they all have guns under 139mm. -
Are there CtDs on vanilla client or is it just modded ones that get it?

Trying to rationalize: Played well but still lost 11 out of 13 games...

Arpeggio of Blue Steel Mission 2 Unfair for Japanese CVs
ScratxNeko replied to Hsaki's topic in General Discussion
Need Bogue, it's tier 5 plus mission. ... And yeah, only DDs are nearly mission impossible for that. ANYBODY else should be able to get it done, they just need to play. -
How can you look yourself in the mirror....
ScratxNeko replied to MATREKUS's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, OP, that's luck and experience, not aimbot... been there, done that. Folks like you, who just go "NOES MUST BE HAXX" just ruin the fun out of it. And your own, too, by imagining things. -
Spotter cooldown is ludicrous. 'nuff said. And in the meantime, do fix spotters and interceptors so they actually show how far they are from you. Because DDs freaking HATE those things for precisely that reason. And the fact they give their torps away, too, but that's besides the point...

Do you think the repair bill/payment should be removed from "Ranked Battle"?
ScratxNeko replied to Drigtol's topic in General Discussion
This complaint has nothing to do with the topic. Lower tier isn't about repairs, especially not when we're talking tier 5 instead of tier 6. Go ask some of those folks whether they even have a top tier ship to go ranked with to start. Oh, and side note... the Konig and Nurn are almost the same ship, there's really not that much of a leg up having the Nurn instead of the Konig. PS: No, I'm not one of them. -
wargaming doing so carrier sniping disappears from the game
ScratxNeko replied to U156dasboot's topic in General Discussion
If a CV asks for escort while I am in a CA, I usually do it. Don't need an AA overpowered cruiser, either. An IJN CA will do the job , too, and even a DKM can, albeit much more limited. AA Consumable FTW. -
I play BBs up to tier 8 (don't have anything above that ... yet). I don't think anything you suggested is needed, especially if it's just for battleships. I could agree to being able to see a target ship's silouette through islands, but that's about it, and automatic for ALL ships, not just battleships. For that matter, other than what I just said I could see it all looks far too much like an aim assist. It's completely unnecessary to start with and will only make cruisers even less tolerable to play, especially at high tiers... because _every_ salvo will be accurate, RNG non-withstanding making the shot spread screw the firing ship out of any hits.

A suggestion regarding CAs (and one BB suggestion)
ScratxNeko replied to IamTroublemaker's topic in General Discussion
Not to be overly sarcastic about it.... but.... they don't already? (I pretty much only use hydro when I have/had the stock hull, so the AA sucked anyway...) Having both actually gives cruisers a good niche. It's not like that's going to help against their main nemesis anyway... battleships don't care. -
OP, the silouette thing through island I can see (but why not make it a standard feature instead of a module upgrade that basically becomes mandatory to use to almost every ship?) ... The rest? I'm having a hard time not seeing them as aim assists which essentially destroy any semblance of skill from gunnery.
-
They're for the lulz, nothing more, and don't cost ship port slots, AFAIK.
-
Meh, torps are hard enough to use as it is, adding random factors to their trajectory, range and even whether they'll actually detonate will just make them doubly frustrating to use.
-
Tip : If your enemy is coming towards you, you can fire torpedos outside range. Your enemy will take care of the range differential if you don't fire too soon.
