Idea doesn't work at all with the current game/monetization model employed in WoWs. Not interested in unloading a long rant about it, though.

Maybe it actually hit an external module dead on, counted as a penetration but didn't actually penetrate the hull so it didn't deal hitpoint damage?

Alaska at tier 8? Dying of laughter here. I don't see how. Look. Here's the deal. The AA? That's way too strong for anything but tier 8+. But 3x3 12" guns? That's not tier 8 material. That's tier 10 nightmare fuel if fielded on a cruiser with good accuracy and range. It's also a joke if it's a battleship gun because at tier 5 everybody's already fielding 14"... and there's pretty much no battleship at high tier that is worried about 12" guns. They just don't have the penetration to be serious threats. So, really, the ONLY ship class at high tier that could support the Alaska would be cruiser, and given the gun layout, ship displacement, sheer AA volume... it's tier 10 hands down folks. Forget it, it doesn't fit tier 9 or 8. Now, if we did want to turn it into a battleship instead what tier would it belong to?... Well... does it even matter? You'd have to place it at a pretty low tier due to low caliber main battery and shitty armor for BB standards (tier 5-6 tops) but at that point your AA is a big middle finger to any aircraft carrier it finds. The AA would wipe anything that brushes its AA envelope for more than a second. So... it clearly doesn't fit that tier either. *shrugs* Seriously, just hope WG will make it a tier 10 cruiser unlockable in a tech tree. Because pretty much nothing else really fits without being very creative.

That just means he's playing his battleship right. It's called angling and as long as you don't have guns big enough to overmatch and basically ignore his armor (hint : only Yamato has guns big enough to do that through battleship bow), any angle steep enough has a very good chance of outright deflecting your shell away. EsaTuunanen's suggested video shows the perfect example to show what happened to you. I also suggest you look up wargaming's own videos about shell penetration mechanics and how to damage enemy ships. That should give you additional insight into how it all works.

is the north carolina just a tier 8 version of the yamato?
ScratxNeko replied to Flukeyluke's topic in General Discussion
Not sure I get the point... you're saying that a higher tier ship can wreck a lower tier ship?... and that the NC and Yamato have similar gun layouts?... umm... yeah, they do? ... Though I am pretty sure the NC can't pull off the BS the Yamato can with its 18" guns overmatching through battleship bow/deck armor.- 15 replies

Do HP Damage count on several missions?
ScratxNeko replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
Don't forget to check minimum requirements, Captain Extraction is only for tier 7+ ships for example. -
Tier 7&8 Cruisers, do they need repair parties?
ScratxNeko replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
Alternatively, give normal number of charges but nerf the hitpoints each charge gives. So they have heals but they're less effective than higher tier ones. -
Radar / Hydro should have a negative side effect

Bolded for emphasis what you're doing wrong, mate. Coop is good for one thing only... testing ships and figuring out game mechanics. It's worse than useless for actually training/improving skills for random battles. People don't behave like the coop AI so all you're doing is training yourself into bad habits. Which get you wrecked. Thus you have one of the worst performances I've seen out of a player who isn't a bot runner or team killer. With that many matches done in coop, however, it's going to be an uphill battle to rid yourself of those bad habits and learn how to handle fighting real players. I wish you good luck with that.

The Tirpitz is an excellent battleship in the hands of someone who knows what he's doing, and an extreme-level threat at close range. Unlike any other BB, the torpedos provide a strong sting if it gets in position to use them. The fast-firing, fast turning guns plus good armor (for fending off cits) also make it particularly well suited for close to medium range combat. Long range combat is where its weakness lie, with its rather poor deck armor and lower gun caliber making it harder to pen enemy decks. Plus, every other BB at tier 8 has more and bigger guns, which at long range duels put the Tirpitz at a clear disadvantage. (only thing that somewhat offsets this really is the faster fire rate) I used to hate the reputation but ... well, if people want to think I'm driving a Derpitz I'm okay with that. I'm okay with being passed over for supposedly bigger threats since it gives me a freer hand in crushing their hopes and dreams. My Unimog on water, with guns and an AMG badge doesn't care. ^^

Question about ships dissapearing as you are about to fire on them
ScratxNeko replied to taskforce11's topic in General Discussion
Too little information. Obviously something broke line of sight but without a replay we can't tell you what happened. -
Saipan requirements announced: 20+ CV wins, at least one T5 carrier
ScratxNeko replied to Ragweek's topic in Aircraft Carriers
While the requirements are low, they're at least a high enough bar that it should prevent anyone who never really played CVs from buying one and raging about how they hate CVs when it doesn't turn out to be like playing a cruiser/battleship/destroyer. If anything, WE SHOULD WELCOME THIS. I'll admit I would prefer a somewhat higher requirement, but this is good enough to limit the damage. And remember, WG does need to make back the money spent on making the ship to start with. Hell, I can imagine the ****storm from stockholders in the average F2P company if they heard "We're putting out a new item for sale but we're limiting sales to only a fraction of the player base" ... so, yeah, appreciate the move. -
Unbundled Tirpitz, Warspite and Blyskawica now on sale!
ScratxNeko replied to Rybak1999's topic in Archive
So, how badly were you trying to hold back giggles while waiting for the sale you knew was about to start as you read the thread? (I already had my Tirpitz but +1 to unbundled. It was literally by a razor margin that I decided to grab it back when it was first on sale... 2 hours before it expired) -
Uh, tier 4 stock ship in a tier 6 match... duh? I hope you aren't taking that match as your first impression seriously.

Radar sees through smoke.... (if it doesn't but sees through islands then I can't even...)

The skills were nerfed to the ground. AFT and BFT no longer affect primary 155mm batteries, so you don't get the 18km range and much accelerated fire rate. But that isn't the worst nerf for the 155mm Mogami. Expert Marksman , the turret rotation buff skill, also got nerfed. It now only gives 0.7 degrees per second rotation buff. Which, with the 155mm glacial turning speeds, means you're quite screwed at close range or if you need to start maneuvering. Like, you know, if you want to dodge incoming fire. The 203mm were usually relegated to second fiddle precisely because the skills could make up for all the 155mm faults and then some. It is no longer the case. Stealth fire AND heals! Yeah, it's not bad at all. Also can ninja almost as well as a Mogami if you stealth-spec it. It's a good ship.
-
155mm have more DPM on paper but the trouble is 203mm, AP or HE, just have a lot easier time actually doing damage when they hit, which does a lot to even out the difference in the end...
-
Myoko all the way, if you're talking about the ship for its own sake. Yorck has no real redeeming qualities. It's fragile, the guns are bad (nigh unusable AP at range, usable HE is weak), short-legged torps despite good arcs. The only good thing about it is that people know how bad the ship is so they'll assign you a lower threat rating in their heads... Myoko on the other hand has a strong gun battery (but Expert Marksmanship is a must, very bad turning rate), good torps if with the typical rear-ward IJN layout, decent armor ( big citadels tho ) and quite agile. Myoko's not a great brawler but it can dish out the pain at mid to long range. IJN HE ensures there will be fires aplenty and the AP is pretty good at getting into citadels when cruisers show their broadsides to you. Honestly, Myoko's big problem really is down to the implications of the turret layout + bad turret turning speed. If you can't get the hang of it and use tactics that minimize that problem...

WoWs damage model problem? BB shell does double damage?
ScratxNeko posted a topic in General Discussion
So I was having fun shooting stuff up in Tirpitz when this happened.... Yeah, single shell penetration (think around amidships) does double damage. I'd upload replay but forum doesn't accept it?... meh. So, what the hell? This doesn't seem to make sense. I sense damage model bug here. -
WoWs damage model problem? BB shell does double damage?
ScratxNeko replied to ScratxNeko's topic in General Discussion
Uh, the fact I did 66% of max damage with a single shell is the suspicious bit. To my understanding a regular AP shell penetration does about 33% of its listed damage. That shell did twice that. That's what I am red flagging here. It's as if the shell applied its regular penetration twice, or perhaps to two different ship sections or something. Khul, it MIGHT be a similar issue or even the same one. I don't know. It's the first time I noticed a shell do something this blatantly broken, though. I've witnessed many overpen+regular pen damage stackings but those are not usually a huge issue on an individual basis (though on the aggregate they surely have an appreciable effect)... whether they might be intended behaviour or not I don't know. It's just that... a single shell doing twice the damage it's supposed to do is definitely not cool. -
I hate the idea of radar seeing through terrain, it destroys the value of terrain for concealment. Need at least some semblance of realism. Radar seeing through terrain utterly obliterates any suspension of disbelief and/or semblance of realism. Sorry, but it's true.

DD excessive survivability? lets review and discuss
ScratxNeko replied to anonym_gxxGX7KaxQVa's topic in General Discussion
Well, the dual buff of making Last Stand easily available to DDs plus giving them a tier 4 skill that buffs their HPs to the point it's quite possible to run out of HPs on parts of their ship before dying (I just came from a match where that happened to me, I was hitting a DD, multiple times, and not doing any damage whatsoever despite destroying modules) ... yeah, it's no wonder there's a ton more DDs around now. Adding the low CV population in and, yeah, they run amok. Not sure radar is the answer, though, because that screws over DD tactics that we ought to encourage... namely anything that isn't torp wall spamming at 15km out. -
Oh, you too? Kutuzov at 6km gets pwned by Tirpitz (me), calls me cheater and mentions warpack and crap. Seriously, I just laughed at him and thanked him for the compliment. Then asked him why he thought anyone needs cheats to hit a cruiser at 6km. Naturally, he didn't say anything. I won't mention names, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the same individual. Did he report you too? (and this also shows why Karma is hilariously broken and useless)

What exactly did they nerf on Tirpitz? -
World Of Warships X Kantai Collection Anyone?
ScratxNeko replied to DD_Amatsukaze's topic in General Discussion
KanColles as captains are feasible technically. But KC doesn't really have ships, it has shipgirls. There's a difference. Arpeggio does have ships. That's why it's a natural pairing with WoWs. So, I don't really give a f... either way.
