What is the deal with the Iowa's hull C?
ShinGetsu replied to Snowman79's topic in General Discussion
You know, if you said something along the line of : "Hey, Iowa's C hull costs a huge deal of experience points and credits, but I don't see why given there are seemingly less AA guns than on B hull. Can someone explains me why ?" You wouldn't have any issues with anyone... And it's not even THAT different from your original post. It's just how you phrased it. -
What is the deal with the Iowa's hull C?

Wat ? Yes you can. Click on the not-researched module, and then see the detailed statistic of the ship on the right. The difference are showed by an exclamation marks on the concerned modules. For example click on the C hull, then you have to open the "maneuvrability" on the side, and you'll see an exclamation marks showing you that the rudder shift time has changed with the upgrade. Btw calling the community "toxic" this fast will not incline people to helps you. I suggest you change your tone a little. -
To be fair you're bad even with Atago and Tirpitz... so ofc Kutuzov would be difficult for you. What the heck do you mean "high arc" ? Those are 152mm railguns with ultra-high shell velocity. And if you have trouble doing damage with AP at close range, it's clearly YOUR issue. Even without cita-hit you're basically guaranteed to hit for 5+k. If you know a little how to aim, of course... Kutuzov at close range is even more deadly than a Hipper. Kinda like an Atlanta in facts. Basically against cruisers you have to shot at where the citadel is, while on BB you have to aim for the less-armored upper deck. It works especially well on Tirpitz and NC. It's not crap, you're just bad with it. I myself had much trouble figuring it out, especially since I wasn't very used to CLs gameplay.

ShinGetsu replied to digifi's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, but buff Tirpitz torpedoes ! 20km range should be enough, it would help all those poor camping Tirpitz. -

IJN. Russians are close seconds. But nothing can beat the IJN's HE filled with nuclear rounds.

BoS is useful for this kind of CA since you don't have repair party to sponge off the damage coming from fires. It's a little less useful on tier 9 and 10 CAs but still interesting. I don't switch to HE often enough to justify the Expert Loader, but I guess it depends on the player. I'm used to use the Concealment the same way as the Atago : get the closer I can, then fire AP once to an oblivious broadside cruiser or BB, then disappear. Stealthfiring never was my things.

I would totally go for Concealment Expert. Though I sold my Hipper to get Roon (I don't regret it, though they are very different). CE allows you to get closer and fire an unavoidable AP salvo for your target. I never tried manual AA, but I don't see that many CV, I don't think it's worth the cost. As for Expert Loader... I'd say nope. Either get BFT (or BoS if you have BFT and vice-versa) or keep your points for Last Stand would seem better for me ?

Okay, so I checked and took my Kutuzov for a ride. Indeed it has 8km torpedoes. Maybe it was there from the start, I dunno. I usually don't use them at all anyway. I still feel very stupid. xD Here's the results of this battle : As you can see, I got most of my damage with AP (got 4 citadel on the Atago) and fire. For four reasons : - Stupid enemies that forgot to shot at me even when I was going broadside. - Stupid enemies that were proud members of the Broadside Family™. - Stupid enemies that let me get close while I was spotted, or more like they didn't get away. - Stupid Derpitz that got two fires on him while he was full HP and didn't bother putting it. MK is a fun ship. It performs well used properly and it's a good ship for TB since it has amazing AA and smoke. But sometimes you have amazing luck like in this battle, or instead every player on the map wants you dead, and RNG troll you. You can do a good average performance with MK, but I still find Atago way more reliable no matter the matchmaking. Don't get me wrong tho. I'm just saying MK is in average more difficult than Atago. I still love it. It has a little something that makes you loves this ship. And I have an amazing skin which make me love it all the more. :p In short : dealing damage with MK requires either more risks or more effort than with Atago.

SE is a complete waste on BB too. AFT is the only way for them. And perhaps manual AA on some.

Engine upgrade helps a lot more than rudder shift upgrade to dodge torps with Kiev. Especially in a knifefight. Just get to full reverse and turn when you see the torps. With the upgrade Kiev accelerate like crazy (and I REALLY mean crazy. 0 to 35kts in less than 10 seconds) so you don't risks much by losing speed for an instant.
-
So I played it all this time only at close range, persuaded it was this short ? I'm really surprised that I never noticed... esp since I have the torp range on minimap. o_o I should really check this ingame, can't atm.
-
Huh ? Wait ? What ? Since when ? o_o I'm absolutely sure I played it with 4km torp range. Been a while since I didn't play it though (last time was for rushing main gun hits for Haguro). I'll look it up later ingame.
-
MK torpedoes are very good in facts. They have great angle, are fast and powerful, and if I remember correctly MK has quintuple launchers. The thing is... 4km range. (Sorry it seems I'm an idiot that can't read numbers. It has 8 km range torps). Its strictly there as defensive armament. I'm mostly using them to force my opponent to shows its broadside and then giving them a fast trip to hell with AP. Even without citadel hit, getting 10k AP salvo on broadside NC or Tirpitz below 9km is normal. Cruisers have it even worse. Atago is simply... easier, really. Long range torps, repair, HE filled with antimatter rounds, and utterly OP concealment. AP are good for shooting cruisers and that's all, everything else is a nobrainer HE spamming. Playing MK then Atago is like changing worlds entirely. With MK I rarely do more than 20k direct damage with HE, but fire and getting within AP range compensate for this. With Atago you just go for 7000 damage HE-salvo + fire damage every 15 seconds. Or instead playing ninja, getting to 10km, firing an AP salvo for 15k damage on a poor oblivious, broadside cruiser, then disappearing from sight. Rince and repeat.
-
Yeah, because EVERY CV will rather uses Concealment Expert over Air Supremacy as a tier 5 skill. Of course...
-
MK can be frustrating when the only fires you lit are instantly dealt with by a repair party. HE damage are very weak unless you get close. Also it's papermade. A single mistake is an instant kill. Now I almost play it like a Hipper : Either snipe at long range with HE to lit fires, or get close and personal by using cover to get 7000-10000 damage with each AP salvo to enemies closer than 10km. Still, if you can get it to works it's a great ship. Very lovable. Atago is easier to play.
-
I plan to get DE second. Accurate sniping of different BB parts to lit at least 3 fire at the same times is already incredibly fun with AFT. Can't wait to troll even more with DE. SE is only an advantage to deal with Mahan and Blyska.
-
Are we talking about different ship or are you just trolling ? Btw I agree with the opinion that Atago is the best t8 CA, but Hipper is a close second. Kutuzov can do wonders but can also be incredibly frustrating when RNG decides "nope". (And yeah, my stats with Atago are no good because I bought it right after the CBT and thought I could already play tier 8 properly at that time. I was wrong)

Hydro useless ? Wat ? Are you serious ? German hydro is incredibly useful. It lasts for a long time, is long range, and spots torps. Radar is fine and all but only last for 20 seconds. Hipper, Roon and Hindenburg are very good DD hunters with Hydro. Also, it's true that there are few secondary guns on german CA. But they hits REALLY hard and with AFT the range isn't ridiculous at all. I almost got as many Close Quarter Expert with Hipper and Roon than with Amagi. German CA are good brawler against others CA and DD because everything advantage them at close range : hydro to spot torps and smoke, the 6km range torps with good angle, 6.3km secondaries, and german AP. (Got a Devastating Strike just yesterday with Roon on a close range DM. 5 citadel hits in one salvo.) Also the german AA works fine with AFT only. Survivability Expert is ridiculous... It costs way too much points. It's a skill for IJN DDs and some russians one. Nothing else. Don't take it, it's a complete waste. As for the 5th skill, Concealment Expert is a nobrainer. Roon is spotted at 11km with this skill.

Good concealment ? Lex, Essex and Midway would like to have a word with you. Getting killed with a Byudo by a tier 8 CV means you were the only target available at this moment. A Shoka will never lose time on you except if he's directly threatened by you or can't attack anything else. Also, crosstorp is fine and all, but except when hunting DDs I find much more efficient to drop everything on the same side at the same time. A well aimed double drop will hit way harder than any cross torp.
