Clan Battle Announcement: No CVs allowed, max 1 BB per team, rent ships for players that don't have a TX yet
ShinGetsu replied to Allied_Winter's topic in General Discussion
It's hilarious to see in this thread player ranting about "CV are too strong and can farm the enemy team alone if the skill gap is too big". It's clear you NEVER watched a replay of competitive gameplay. CVs in these format : - Play AS usually. - Strike scarcely - Spots - Spots - And spots Because in competitive, you just can't strike anything. Even the DDs that are picked are mostly Benson with AA defense consumable. Or Akizuki in 9v9. In tier X, best CV would probably be the 2-1-2 Midway in good hands. They can spot very well, have durable planes and can chase lone targets. But most of the time they can't even strike as players play in a single group and concentrate the AA power. Removing CV from the competitive will just makes it a boring smoke and counter-smoke meta. And still won't change anything as weaker clans won't be able to do sh!t against those that knows how to play together. I've seen enough random line-up of inferior tanks in WoT winning against noob clan because they just had enough coordination. And I'm talking about stomps. -
Let's see... How about wasting no less than 11 points on a build with very little return for your investment, and at the same time passing on very, very important skills like CE, DE or Superintendent ? You know why some builds are the best ? Because they are. Because there is a lot of theorycrafting and experimenting that was done. It's not Dark Souls III here, where you can just level up enough to actually get all the stats maxed and play everything you want. You have limited ressource, you have to optimize your ship with 19 points, and some skill such as Adrenaline Rush are mandatory due to how powerful they are now. Also, hugging islands is specific to a few cruisers. Most are to be played by kiting away and playing with your concealment. That's hardly static. Yet I'm pretty sure I still do those devastating strike on those moving cruisers when playing my Montana.

See if you can spot the difference in the aproach of WG when designing a CL and a BB ......
ShinGetsu replied to havaduck's topic in General Discussion
Yeah. If you're as much as an Historynerd as your name suggest, I think we can both agree that Cruisers in facts were much more useful than all those floating bricks, and pretty much fought more and put up a better fight. Now, talking about the game, a BB handling like a cruiser, with cruiser dispersion, with better AA, of course better survivability (at a tier where CV can't do manual attack), and of course much better guns, isn't what I exactly call balanced. -
Here's a build for Henri IV : http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1100000000100010100001100000000119 You also can ignore BoS and PM and go either for IFHE or for ManualAA depending on what you like to do. Secondary build is retarded. Even on Moskva that carries a Khabarovsk on her back (4x2 130mm, same gun as Khebab) it's retarded. As for Henri itself, I have it since 3 days ago now, and I can't really call it weak. It lacks sheer utility, but the speed boost allows for very good flexibility. You can change to the other side of the map in a flash, invades cap one after another in end game, and the guns are very, very great. I'd say it's a Moskva, but easier to play. Though the price is losing the radar.

First, the change already happened. IFHE now only give -1% fire chance instead of -3% on caliber lower than 139mm. Second, I know all this because my clan is very good friend with one of the top EU clan (UFR) and they did participates in WG test with others clans on rebalancing the competitive meta, and they had all the information on IFHE changes as they were testing it themselves.

-
And Khaba belt. And some deck armor like Moskva. Well anyway they canceled the IFHE change because they are unable to handle it properly. Nerfing it on the penetration would nerf to the ground CLs that doesn't need it, and they almost doesn't care about the fire chance. So IFHE on Henri IV is actually still worth taking. They just decided to buff it on lower caliber and voilà.
-
Hm, I agree on tier 5 and 6, and somewhat in tier 7, though I do have CE on my Scharnhorst, but for a main reason : the camo value at these tiers is not only huge, but the map are small on top of it. There's clearly no point on playing a Kongou with CE. On the other hand, NC with CE and Concealment module lower the concealment to an hilarious 11.8km. Iowa and Montana stack the -11% max dispersion on top of their 12.2 and 13.4. My post was clearly about tier 7+. You're totally right about that.
-

Is Kii any good? Is it a hard ship to play in?
ShinGetsu replied to g1g5's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, but no. The difference is actually very small. -

ShinGetsu replied to Allied_Winter's topic in General Discussion
That will be campy beyond anything ever seen. You thought ranked was bad ? Lol. Here come worse. And good team will absolutely massacre weaker team anyway. As for idiots asking for removal of CV... well, you guys are as stupid as WG I guess. I don't even want to argue. -

I sooo disagree. Actually it's the BB that doesn't need CE that are the exception. Most profits exceptionnaly from it, starting from the US and the UK. IJN can uses it very well too, on Amagi and Yamato mainly. However it's true that a secondary build is overall better for germans.

ShinGetsu replied to g1g5's topic in General Discussion
This. It's faster and have better AA than Amagi in exchange for citadel height and torpedo protection, and trade secondary power for gimmicky torpedoes. It's very strong and reward good play, but doesn't forgive mistakes. -

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
ShinGetsu replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Yep. The non-anime camo have the same bonus though : -5% post-battle cost, +100%freepex, -3% detectability, +4% max dispersion and +50% XP. That battle was so dumb. I started by killing a Kagero with blind torp in smoke (first devast + first blood) then I launched everything with the autoaim to a Bismarck, he took everything despite having his plane up (second devast), then hit two on a Nagato and got 20k flooding off him, sinking him in the process, and a final torp hit on a Hood, that I farmed with my gun at point blank while he simply ignored me. I played against bots, but agressive bots, instead of campers. -

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
ShinGetsu replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Freepex is sooo overrated anyway. Welp, I'm farming it for buying upgrades on Taiho before playing it. That's gonna be done quick. xD -
Stock Harekaze is 13300 HP, for a tier 8 it's abysmally bad. You need Survivability Expert. And you have to think in term of percentage. 2800 out of 13300 HP is around 20% upgrade. There isn't that many skills that gives such an upgrade. It's a skill tailored for DDs. It doesn't help against battleships, but it's very important in DD knifefights. And 100mm Harekaze is one of the best knifefighter at its tier. (With AP)
-
Well if you really want to stick with Harekaze, you need this captain build : http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1000000000000001010000000000000119 That's for start. Then IFHE at 14 points to penetrate DDs. Until then, stick with AP. But I really can't advice you to keep playing her for now. She's really, really difficult to handle. 100mm are the only way to go with her. Stock hull is crap and US guns are useless with only 3 of them. You just won't learn by playing tier 8 anyway.
-
There's also that guy : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAO6C9T2NNWp88vp_KsXVsQ He's more onto "funny videos" but his "How to" are both hilarious and gives some great advices, and he shows some interesting mechanics through his funtage, like overmatch mechanics and things like that. This one for example, on Furutaka : The video is outdated, as Furutaka got buffed and now have double-mount instead of single guns mounts, but all his advices still hold true ! (Ah, the captain skill are utterly outdated too now. You need Priority Target, Expert Marksman, Demolition Expert and Concealment Expert)

-
Yeah, stop doing crap in tier 8 games, nobody will benefits from it and certainly not you. Start by learning the real basics in tier 5/6. There are some amazing ships to learn with. I suggest - Cleveland for learning to hit with catapult-like-guns, Cleveland with the APHE (HE penetration) skill being utterly OP it's a good ship to learn with. - IJN BBs. In particular both Fuso and Kongou. Kongou teach how to play a Fast Battleship. It's a very good ship to learn how to be agressive. Fuso on the other hand is the first "real" BB for the IJN line. Slow, but pack an impressive punch. Actually grinding the whole IJN BB line is one of the best way to learn. They have poor AA, and they take big damage if you don't angle properly, but on the other hand they are fast and the guns hits hard while being very accurate. Don't try the utterly stupid german BB tree. They won't teach you a thing. - IJN Cruisers, at least until Myoukou. They are fragile with a big citadel, but tank when angled, and can kite pretty easily. And their 203mm are no joke. - Any DD line excepted the germans are good for a beginner and very different from each other. Maybe go for Mahan for the USN and the Akatsuki for the IJN first. - CV are absolutely horrible to play at low tier due to removing the manual attack (done with ALT) at tier 4 and 5. However, I think you should try to get both Ryujou and Independence (freepex to them if tier 5 is too horrible for you) to learn how the CV gameplay is. Independence 1/1/1 is really great, and Ryujou teach you that straf and manual TB drop are the bread and the butter of the IJN CVs. - Finally, Russian cruisers until at least Budyonny seems a rather good idea to me. Kirov is horribly fragile but the 180mm are very great. It's quite hilarious to play if you learn to keep your distance. They are a whole line of sniper that will teach you to kite and bait. And their guns are great. You need IFHE though. If you REALLY want to play your shiny tier 8, starts by learning Kutuzov. It's very easy to play with its smoke and IFHE. You keep your distance, and uses your smoke at around 15km of the enemy fleet, keeping an eye for radar and torps, while making sure you have some spot and at least 3 enemy to farm. You can go as high as 80-100k average damage on it. (My stats with it are slowly going up since I bought it when I didn't have enough experience) Get that captain build on it ASAP : http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1000000000100000000001100010000119 And your first 10 points should be those : http://shipcomrade.com/captcalc/1000000000100000000001000010000019 With premium smoke consumable of course. Also, that build works very well for every russian cruiser from tier 5 to 9 included, so you can just uses the same captain, you retrain them every time on Kutuzov when you get a tier higher. And absolutely use premium consumable. Premium Damage Control Party on EVERY ship. Premium smoke on every DD and cruisers, premium heal on every ship that have it, premium radar. DefAA and sonar doesn't really need the premium consumable, nor the fighters and spotter planes. Last point : DON'T. SHOW. YOUR. BROADSIDE. EDIT : Ouch. Just saw your stats. Okay, stop the carnage now. You even bought HSF Harekaze. While she's one of my favourite DD, it REALLY isn't for an inexperienced player. First because you need to know very well the HE and AP mechanics to understand how to play her. Second because you need a 14 points captain to really make her shine and understand what skills are truly important, third because she requires very good map awareness. She's a DD made for contesting caps with the second hull, the 100mm. However those requires to be played with AP, and you need the IFHE skill to penetrate angled tier8+ DD with HE. It's REALLY not a DD for a beginner. No freaking way. Seriously. It's an amazing carry, but not for you. ><
