Manual drop Torpedo bombers and AA ranges, a humble suggestion
Droowzor replied to Liare's topic in Archive
In all honesty for people having troubles with CVs: don't take offence, but this is a L2P issue. The more you go up in tiers, the easier it gets to completely obliterate any air offence from torpedo bombers. The amount of AA the high tier BB's (8 and up) are currently bringing, combined with the right evasive maneuvers make a 'perfect' bomber approach nigh impossible. Considering this, attacking a lone Yamato is an extremely costly move. You can expect to lose a complete air group before dropping anything into the water. Contingent on him attempting to give your air groups a longer approach. The result is the CV doing pitiful damage and having to wait 4-5 minutes before even attempting another attack (with the same poor odds). Sounds fun? This isn't even taking into account when multiple ship's AA overlap. At higher tiers BB's know better then to wander off by themselves. So add in teamwork (read: 2 or more BB's sailing in the same general area). Or add in a CA with a skill to put everything in a large radius in panic mode for a long amount of time... It gets quite ridiculous very easily. Do not take a handful of samples of low tier games for the truth across the board. It simply doesn't work that way. The current state of the game renders CVs pretty much useless in comparison to the other classes. There is a reason at higher levels carriers are almost extinct. -
Very true, especially for destroyers. They do not get significantly more dangerous like some other classes do. Their stealth, and torpedo strikes in the current state of the game are probably also to easy to counter by scout planes, dive bombers, etc.

Way to completely ignore an accurate description of the current state of the game at higher tiers, and steer off-topic with a completely random remark. I can't imagine any CV captain dropping torpedos on islands on purpose. If you feel this to be an real issue, I'd advice you to create a separate topic, so the devs can investigate the matter properly. The fact of the matter is that CV's at the top tiers are severely gimped in comparison to similar tiered vessels. Battleships are the only ships a CV can consistently attack. CA's hard counter any airforce with their Flak ability, and DD's are simply to agile. Now BB's got an overwhelming AA power too, which pretty much renders the CV at top tiers useless. Yes, we can still relatively easily one shot Nagato's with an Essex without worrying too much, but we're talking about a 3 tier difference there, and these ships shouldn't and will not meet at the release. Therefore the game shouldn't be balanced as such. Naturally I still managed to some score hits during these games, but nowhere near enough to be able to say I was pulling my own weight. Would you be satisfied with getting a mere 30k damage in at tier X as a BB?

So, yesterday I've had my first real experience with the buffed AA on my new Essex, and I have to say the buff is simply too much. On several occasions I lost literally all torpedo bombers, which used to be an rare occurrence. Up until this point I was always able to do a full attack run onto any unescorted BB of my own tier or lower. With a full attack run I mean getting at least all torps in the water before taking losses, but still losing some planes on the way back. In the current state of the game it just seems incredibly difficult to do any of that, even to a BB which responds relatively late to a torpedo run. Forget about doing any of this to a target with backup. Dual BB's just shred any attack group to pieces, while a cruiser simply presses a button to put bombers in panic mode, making it literally impossible to kill anybody. At this point your options are to either force an attack, or back off and let the enemy form into an even more favourable position. I do get why to an inexperienced or perhaps unaware BB it could seem overpowered to get taken from 100 to 0 by someone they can't shoot. Though this only happens on instances where the target is hit by a perfect run (read: getting hit by every single torpedo fired) or when you are unlucky enough to get citadeled. At top tiers one should have gathered enough skill and tactical knowledge to at least be able to avoid getting hit this hard. If you get hit by all 10 torpedo's, the CV shouldn't be punished a crazy AA buff. You should be punished by losing your ship, and having to learn how to avoid these runs in future. A lot of these problems BB seem to have can be solved by simple teamwork, and keeping an eye on the surroundings.
