Turns out I'd done some screen shots for looking at depth charges for different nations. Not all depth charges are equal; In the test, RN DD were the best for sub killing -

I have no idea which players are on - all the test accounts look like Sub_675623 so you can't tell who's who anyway. For what it's worth, here's my round 2 replays; 20191003_201028_PASD005-Farragut-1944_42_Neighbors_Sub.wowsreplay 20191003_202822_PASS106-Cachalot_42_Neighbors_Sub.wowsreplay 20191003_205510_PGSC106-Nurnberg_42_Neighbors_Sub.wowsreplay 20191005_140228_PGSS106-U-69_41_Conquest_Sub.wowsreplay 20191005_141850_PJSD206-Hatsuharu_41_Conquest_Sub.wowsreplay 20191005_143410_PGSD106-Ernst-Gaede_41_Conquest_Sub.wowsreplay 20191005_144207_PASS106-Cachalot_41_Conquest_Sub.wowsreplay 20191005_154030_PBSA106-Furious_42_Neighbors_Sub.wowsreplay 20191006_131136_PASS106-Cachalot_42_Neighbors_Sub.wowsreplay 20191006_152646_PBSD106-Icarus_41_Conquest_Sub.wowsreplay -

Most of the people that post videos on a semi regular basis also tend to be CC's, due to the fact they post videos on a regular basis. I'm neither WG/ST/CC but I had access to round 2. I'll see if it saves replays to a folder when I get home -
I remember it too. When you clicked battle is would show something like; Players in queue: Tier 1 - 0 Tier 2 - 3 Tier 3 - 19 Tier 4 - 0 Tier 5 - 1 ...... So you could see if you wanted to jump into a game your best choice was queueing in a tier 3

Zao doesn't just have to long range spam, its actually pretty versatile - It CAN long range spam HE if it wants (and is a decent fire starter/ HE alpha). If can also use and abuse its stealth to be suprise DD support, and can invisi-torp with the 12km torps. The zao also has a fairly trollish armour layout and can eat volleys that should have deleted it, but instead gives overpens

Matchmaker Discussion Thread & MM Balance

Let me give you an example, particularly since its fairly common; Its near the end of the game. Your team is up on points. There's an AFK enemy BB. However! Your base is being capped by an unseen DD. Do you: A). Ignore the BB, and go to the cap even if you're not suited to finding DD. If you can contest the cap then your team will win on points, even if you never see the enemy DD. B). Farm the BB. You could get loads of damage! The cap is someone else's problem. Players who pick option A win more often, even if it doesnt give them PR. Players who pick option B win less, pad their PR, then usually point to them being top of team list and whine about luck/crap team. -
What WG spreadsheets, Smolensk, CVs and Pavlovs dogs have in common
Xevious_Red replied to anonym_DKZABZXaXZld's topic in General Discussion
It was pretty much imossible to be completely useless in the RTS version, because as long as you could remember to left click on a large ship like a BB, and as long as the opposing CV didnt understand strafe then you could achieve something with autodrop. With the rework CV, IGNORING the continuous AA, and ignoring flak clouds, its still possible to totally balls up the drop by clicking too late and flying over the target. Which means its possible for a complete potato to make a hash of attacks even against targets with zero AA and aren't dodging -
Considering I didnt take Demo expert, didnt bother with any of the increased fire chance flags, and put a captain in that has IFHE (REDUCED fire chance), I probably shouldn't have had a game where I started 20 fires. Oh and for double comedy if you stack AFT and the range module then you have 19km range, so you just set fire to anything on the map thats not currently on fire. Worst part? That build isnt even consider optimal.

The other part isn't even what they've recieved from a good player, but what happens to the psychologically. Having several fires set on their BB makes most players panic, evwn if the rational logic is that all that damage can simply be healed in 20 sec time. Same with a stream of low caliber shells - they might all be shattering, but just the fact they're being shot makes lots of players turn tail and run. You get the same with mid tier CV - I watched my entire team of BB hide in a cluster because of a ranger's torp bombers. Meanwhile I sailed around not caring if I ate an airdropped torp or 2, since they only do 3k once the belt has reduced their damage. -
Careful when researching next level event ships - it might just take your dubloons...
Xevious_Red replied to ForlornSailor's topic in General Discussion
Although they are modelled after tier X ships, the abilities is what sets them apart. For example, the maverick (starting BB) has 2 abilities: heal (itself) and 90% reduce damage (itself). The scorpoid (second BB) has 2 abilities: heal (itself + all team mates nearby) and 100% reduce damage (itself and all team mates nearby). Clearly the second BB is better. -

The problem with this usually comes down to queue time. For example, Overwatch uses a rating system so you're put with/against the same quality players as yourself. Now in that: -The teams are half the size of a Wows team -There's a lot more players in the "pool" to make a team from -Heroes aren't tiered - any hero can go against any other -Heroes aren't mirrored - any team combination is fine -Hero classes aren't mirrored. You dont even choose your hero before the match, the MM just needs to find 9-13 (depending on mode) players that are roughly as bad as you are, with a much bigger selection of players to choose from. Even with these much, much lighter restrictions, and vastly larger pool, it frequently takes over 5 mins to find a match, and that's during peak hours. So much so that while you're waiting it throws you into a mess about area so you can shoot each other while you wait. Now imagine how much longer it would take if it needs to find 23 players that are the same as you, AND happen to be playing the same tier bracket AND have the right split of classes so its not all BB AND can be divided equally so they mirror AND doesnt put all the divisions on one team AND splits things like radar evenly AND makes sure you havent been bottom tier for the last 20 games. -

Xevious_Red replied to Excavatus's topic in General Discussion
There's an obvious problem to this: Lets imagine you got rid of all the "bad" players, so now you're in a pool of good players only. Hooray right? Your team would certainly consist of good players. Unfortunately, so would the enemy team. So no more easy broadsides. No more mistakes for you to capitalise on. No more making mistakes yourself and not getting punished. Compared to a 45% guy, you're a good player. But you wouldnt be playing with him anymore. Instead, you'd be with the 65% guys, at which point YOU are the "worst" player on the team. Then its you everyone on your team is complaining about. Unless you're super unicum, everyone is crap in someone else's eyes. -
Amount of filth + risk depends greatly. Taking on a coordinated team that are carrying ~100 isnt a great option. Taking out a lone damaged ship carrying 700 is easy pickings. Similarly risk vs other players depends on your own ability - if you're a 45% guy then you probably dont want to start a brawl with other players - you'll come of worse. However if you're a unicum you probably dont care who you tangle with.
-
Side note: Frequently the player that suggests the truce is the one that opens fire first. Just had a BB looking like he was going to extract. Sees me. Says "dont shoot". Sees our DD (also looking to extract). Deletes our DD.
-
-Human players still give XP, so can unlock the new ships faster. Also if grinding captain XP. -Human players are the biggest threat. Why not kill them before they decide to kill you? -If you're carrying 700 filth, you are a very easy way to fill my hold. Now it doesn't benefit THEM for me to kill them, but it certainly benefits me. Generally I wont hunt other players, but Im not squeamish about taking them out if needed. The annoying is seeing players with full holds camping the portal - they could extract, but are just there to grief

Max Filth gathering Basic needs

You know your arguement is wrong when you claim the game mode isnt designed to back stab each other, and at the same time state people need to turn off their secondaries to stop the ships AUTOMATICALLY firing at other players. The game mode very clearly is designed for players to fight/back stab each other - that's why there's 3 teams, all the other teams flag up as enemies, you can kill them, and you can steal their filth. If it was supposed to be cooperative, everyone would be green and on the same team, like ops, or coop. Now YOU might like to game the system, by deliberately not shooting other players and sailing around in a pacifist clockwise circle farming bots, but dont get pissed that other people "aren't playing it the way they're suppossed to" when clearly it's you that's trying to game the system. You want to enforce a pacifist farming mode. They simply lie about joining in, and wait to steal your stuff. Difference is you then come complaining that you don't like their methods, and that it's not "nice" -
The original halloween mode was the precursor to operations mode - it was the first "scenario" that involved a bespoke map, and scripted AI appearances. The forts in it were the test for the forts that were used in that mode (name escapes me) where contesting points gave you an automated fort. (Subsequently removed after mass complaints) One of the scenarios had the test of a squadron of fighters circling above CV instead of actively flying As @Hugh_Ruka said the weather systems were done first in halloween/april fools, along with the reworked epicentre. Subs were a test that are now in beta testing for joining the main game. The torp joust introduced main guns as secondaries, which was subsequently used for rogue wave and some ships in twilight battle. While this doesn't seem to have made it into the main randoms, now seems a staple for the "fun" events
-
The only time someone suggested a truce, THEY were the one that opened fire on our team. So I sank them. If someone asks for a truce I wont be the one that breaks it, but otherwise its business as usual. I wont hunt other players, but if they're a threat then I'll sink them.
-
They did this. It was complained about that there wasn't enough rewards by those who already owned certain ships/didnt want THOSE prizes. (Warspite event). Alternatively, when they had lots of good prizes, it was complained about that people had to PICK what to get, and couldn't get everything unless they played a lot. (Smith/tachibana/modules event)
-
Make it completeable in a day: "Ok it was fun for this day, but what's the point of playing it now since I have all the rewards?" Make it completeable in a week: "Ok I got the main reward, but why havent you included a stretch reward?!?!" Make it completeable in a month: "Whats the point of playing? I cant dedicate a month to this so I might as well not bother" Make it so you're rewarded regardless of level of involvement, from playing 1-2 games to playing it constantly all month: "I want all the top stuff, and I dont want to play it all month so Im not going to bother" Im interested to see what your suggestion for a reward scheme would be, because I dont think Ive seen a single event/reward where SOMEONE didnt label it as the worst thing ever. Personally Im not a huge fan of "random" boxes mostly because someone always gets the top item in box 1, where sod's law says for me it'll be in box 23/24, so now I just see what I get instead of aiming for something in particular.
-
My view is that the mode is fun to play - its something different. I'll play it for the same reason I play any mode: because I enjoy playing it. The "grind" is just free stuff - I'll get as much free stuff as I feel like playing it. If I stop feeling like playing it, I'll stop. The rewards are nice, but they're not going to make me play if I dont want to.

CV's shouldnt be in the game, by a CV player
Xevious_Red replied to Black_Prince42's topic in General Discussion
I don't bother pre dropping or slingshot either. I could to maintain higher reserves, but honestly don't really find it needed - I only use slingshot when in divisions for "lol watch this" -
Not really irrelevant. What usually happens is the enemy CV ends up spotting one of the dumber DD that beelined and focusses them. You can use this respite to cap early if you want. Since the enemy DD is going to have just as hard a time capping, and since caps can be contested and flipped anyway then capturing them early isnt hugely crucial - kills are more useful to your team in early game, with caps being used to stop points bleed once the enemy has too few ships to control them properly. Since planes dont spot torps at all, you can get some good results from torp boats, particularly as players huddle for AA. If you feel caps are needed because your team is down too much on points, you can wait till the enemy CV is focussed on something at the other side of the map. Few CV drop what they're doing to race to your cap if they're in the middle of something
-
In addition to flying to where the opposite spawn point is, CV path their planes along the straightest route between that spawn and the closest cap. 9/10 times you find a DD that way even with its AA off. Even with their AA off, most DD beeline straight to the nearest cap making them very predicatable. If you do literally anything other than beeline to the cap for the first 1-2 mins then DD are MUCH harder to find unless the CV is unicum and spends time hunting them
