CV: Always blamed for the loss of a game
Xevious_Red replied to DrMechano's topic in General Discussion
All the "counters" to CV basically make life more awkward/less appealing to the CV player. -"dodging": Harder to hit a steering target. Player that's not dodging might be more tempting. -Having AA off: Not as easy to find. Time spent hunting could be time spent farming an easily spotted target. -AA: Have to fly around flak. Will lose planes. -Massed AA: lots of avoiding flak. Will lose more planes -Fighters: will lose planes if flown through. -Smoke: Harder to hit as cant see. Time spent waiting out smoke could be time spent farming an easy target. -Weird map positioning: unfavourable flight times, and awkward searching. Time could be spent focussing easier/more critical target. Now for your average CV, these, or a combination of these will be enough to avoid major damage, or to make the CV focus someone else instead. For a good CV, the increase in difficulty doesnt matter - they can handle the extra work involved attacking a manouevering ship, or finding one with AA off. For a stubborn CV, they wont care about you being less appealing target if they've decided to focus you. For a good stubborn CV, if they've decided that you are the optimum target, and the time/plane losses are worth it then you're basically dead. -
CV: Always blamed for the loss of a game
Xevious_Red replied to DrMechano's topic in General Discussion
This is the weird ongoing fallacy. Good ones are basically un-counterable. The only reason you don't get sunk is because they've chosen to do something else. However against not-good CV, the usually mentioned counters work just fine. The pro-CV camp pretend every CV is a complete brain dead potato that can be avoided by turning your AA off. The anti-CV camp pretend every CV is El2aZer's alt acount, and the mere presence of a CV means you're 100% dead. For something like clan wars they're probably too good. For randoms, I don't mind facing them, as the average CV player you'll meet wont be "good" and can be countered -

If it follows the same set of rules as previously; - They wont be able to cap. -The air detection was the same periscope/surface at about 2.5km. This makes them roughly the same as a DD with AA off. Which makes them awkward to spot accidentally, but by no means impossible to find especially if the CV is good/actively looking for them -They will outspot DD, but at that range the DD will have it's direction indicator showing the direction of the sub, so depending on surrounding team mates/positioning it will affect who exactly is hunting who. This obviously is working on the assumption that variables like air detection, and mechanics (direction indicator) will remain the same as test 2 -

Sub news - going into ST to try some fairly different changes before the third test. -
Midway got nerfed so that its DB are much harder to hit DD. Hak lost its 4 torp option, so now only has its twin torps. AA got changed fairly heavily, the manual AA skill changed, and so did using sectors (there's now a burst of damage when.its triggered, and it stays active for X seconds then goes on CD instead of being permanently sectored) This didn't really affect the top CV players, so the unicum ones will dunk on you regardless. Generally though the power of CV (for the average player) has been reduced. While they're still the most moaned about class, it's more low level grumbling now rather than frothing outrage.

The chance of getting a super container is low anyway. Chances of getting one is roughly double if you choose "try your luck", but the chances of that are still very slim. I don't think there has ever been an official published %. There has been some anecdotal stuff (e.g. opened 100 containers, got 1 super) that puts the chance somewhere around 1% The chances of getting a ship from one are therefore even lower - while I've had a reasonable number of SC, Ive never had a ship from one. Friend has had 2 ships (Alabama, and Krispy kreme). Generally the consensus is that the more resources container is the best choice as it guarantees coal. If for whatever reason you don't want coal, the the TYL is ok. I wouldn't plan around getting SC though, and I certainly wouldn't plan around actually getting a ship from one.

(IFHE) for Tiers VIII-X. Second stage of the test
Xevious_Red replied to Puffin_'s topic in General Discussion
GK is gaining accuracy next patch. There was also whispers from sub_octavian about changes for secondary spec ships. So depends what the other changes actually are, or if this armour change will be in isolation - atm it's just a test of concept. -
I wouldn't worry too much about WR after 12 games, sometimes you get a "cursed" ship. My first 30 games in the gearing were awful, I managed to be down to a 16% WR after 30 games. 100+ games later (because I was stubborn) and its sat over 50%

You are of course aware, before you decide to be very patronising, that being on top of the scoreboard, and actually being useful aren't the same thing? Xp (and thus the scoreboard) is heavily based around damage. So pointlessly farming useless damage will get you high on the scoreboard, but wont actually win you any games. I'm sure you're also aware that the Sims has an incredibly high XP modifier? That's the reason it was the go to ship in tier 7 ranked for saving a star. You could pretty much take a cap, do a little shooting and voila top of the scoreboard. Now you may well have been doing the most useful things ever. But you cant tell that from.a scoreboard, since you could also be at the top from pointlessly sitting in a smoke cloud shooting at BB. Since none of us saw those games, and you havent put up replays, ask yourself; Was what you did the best possible play for winning the game? Or are you merely presuming you were the best since you earned the most xp? If you were genuinely doing the best possible, then thats a sucky run, but it happens. If you were just farming xp instead of playing to win, then you can change that.

Yeah I'd forgotten about the cossack. Generally, the main problem DD are ones with 5.4/5.5km concealment. Kagero is ok because chances are the kagero doesn't really want a gun fight either.
-
Firing angles aren't too bad - the gun placement lends itself to kiting. The DPM is reasonably low - you dont really want to get into a pure DPM trade. The Assashio pretty much never wants to get into a 1v1 with the harekaze - harekaze and lightning are the two worst ships for it to encounter, as it can't leverage a stealth advantage (0.1 vs the lightning), and they both heavily out DPM it
-
I actually dont bother with RPF on the Assashio. You outspot almost all DD anyway, and you can't use it for sneaky torp waves since the sassy-ho's torps dont hit DD anyway. You also don't reveal to an enemy DD that he's the closest to an RPF user (which by deduction usually means DD). I use: - Less breaky modules -Last stand -Adrenaline Rush -Torp Accel -Expert marksman (I use Yamamoto - he's my dedicated assashio captain) -Survival expert -Torp reload -Concealment expert. Torps get fired at BB pretty much as soon as they're off CD. Torping BB is actually an after though for me in the assashio - just send wave after wave and enough stick. Capping is mostly done passively - contesting and using the detection difference to advantage. Guns are there because they will be needed - fighting DD is done by kiting away so they cant use torps against you.

Can CVs be made unreportable? I am tired of being constantly chat banned
Xevious_Red replied to Pappus's topic in General Discussion
Ironically, as proved by the WoWS playerbase, the effort of flying around flak clouds, leading target and dropping correctly is far too complicated for a large number of them. Its not idiot proof because they still manage to fail horribly at it. The end result is players who are good (or at least vaguely think) can fly around attacking with impunity. The players who are bad suck with them more than anything else and just miss drop everything. Your bot level player will do far better in a BB than they will in a CV. The reason the CV rework isn't too problematic is because although CV are OP, the average CV player is utterly useless. -

My experience of playing them was; - Its fun to dive and have blooping noises underwater -Its something "new" - Both the above will wear off as the novelty goes. -In almost all combat situations I would have rather been in a DD instead. My experience of facing them was; -You can pretty much ignore them. -In a BB they're mildly irritating, but you can either run them down, or simply sail away. The lasting impression was; -They're sort of fun -They're not very good -They add a "new experience" -They dont add anything of value. -

Get good in that class, don't taunt enemy when you sink them, and appear helpful to your own team (as long as it doesnt seem like a terrible idea). -

I liked the one where he thought MM should consist of all the best players (and him) on one team, and a bunch of below 50% on the other, so that he always won.- 81 replies

submarines SUBMARINES - discussion, feedback, opinions
Xevious_Red replied to WG_Lumberjack's topic in General Discussion
In test 2 they did about 3/4 speed submerged. I also can't see them getting to the rear of a fleet easily. They can't get there on the surface , so they'd need to dive and go under. Under water they move at about 18kn (higher tier may be faster). Thats the speed of a colorado. If the go to periscope for torps/to see then that becomes 3-8kn To get to the rear they would need to spend a lot of time and air. Thats presuming they can find a route that doesnt involve a DD coming near them, and accidentally spotting them through the new sub finding ability DD have. -

In the test, the interaction between CV and Sub was quite interesting. -Subs (deep) are immune to CV -Subs (deep) can't remain there forever -Subs (deep) have no idea where planes are (minimap only shows last position of ships) -Subs (periscope/surface) have low air detection -Subs (periscope) get marked on the minimap when they use homing ability -CV that attack periscope/surface subs with rockets/HE bombs do massive damage to them, if not one shot them. If they're equally matched it becomes very interesting - the sub can see the planes early, but near the end the sub will be running low on O2. If the sub is better, it can pretty much avoid damage from CV permantly. If the CV is better, the sub is dead. In current state, expect lots of whining threads from bad BB because a decent sub player sank them, and lots of whining from bad sub players that CV deleted them. Given the time period between test 1 - 2 (2 weeks), wheras there has been a much longer period between test 2 and now, then either; -They think they have enough info and subs will be going in pretty much as they are (no more tests) Or -They're making quite large changes and thus need much more time between test 2 and 3 -
The 3-5-7 in WoT had a secondary problem - not only as a tier 8 did you spend most of the time bottom tier (average 7 games as bottom, average 3 games as top), but the MM could hugely screw one team. If your team got 3 support mediums (e.g. panther II) as top tier, while the enemy got 3 soviet bias heavies (e.g. Is3A) then it was basically a forgone conclusion - the soviet bias rolled around deleting everything, while nothing is able to damage them
-
Its also worth noting that the info it gives isnt always useful. Knowing that someone has 70% WR on a ship isnt very useful if they've only played 10 games in it. Same with someone that has 40% after 10 games. Its simply not enough to judge what they're like. Similarly, seeing the overall WR isn't that useful if you cant see how they got it. If you see a Yamato with 65% overall WR they must be good right? Not if they've got that through padding in the tier 2 DD. As others have said, good players dont always equal team players. Some might come forwards to support you. Some might use you as ablative armour to secure kills, which although might ultimately lead to victory probably wasnt the game you wanted. Lastly, although WR shows what they're like on average, it doesn't show what they'll do THAT game. For example, Ive been sat around 58% for quite a while now. Some games I can make inspired plays. Other games I play like complete crap, where I take a risk and it doesn't pay off. My division mate if in a good mood plays excellently, and is cold + calculating. If in a BAD mood however he'll get fu**ed off, and literally go get himself killed so he doesnt have to play that game anymore. MMM wont show you the 59% guy has clipped a torp, and has now decided he's going to ram his dd into the nearest enemy he can find.

If he was pink already then doing damage to allies reflects onto him - if this reflected damage is enough to sink him he counts as killing himself -
