    Well firstly there was the interview with the publishing director (?) That basically just said they are coming 2019. Secondly, listening to the stream it said they had tried lots of ideas for subs and this is the one they like the most. The event is to gather feedback and decide if they want to push this model forward. Now what this tells me is that they want to put subs in. They think they can. The feedback will mean they either go ahead as is, or they tweak it and have a slightly different model. One way or another they are planning to put subs in.

    That will be the thing - how accurately you can predict their position. With the current torps - doesn't hugely matter as you can sweep the whole smoke. With rockets that aren't going to disperse? The first volley will probably be pretty good - it's not hard to predict position of a ship that has only just disappeared. However after that your planes fly away and need to turn around. This gives the DD time to reposition in smoke, so your second volley will be a guess unless they do something convenient like keep firing their guns.

    Any opinions how good rockets would be versus a smoked DD? With the current system smoking is a bad idea because the CV can comb the smoke with torps. With rockets I think you would get less good effects. Now obviously there are other reasons not to smoke up (loss of sight, radar, DD torp combing), but for pure surviving against CV attack smoke may be more viable
  4. Why don't you just play the kagero? That seems to be the ship you are actually looking for. It has the same hull, guns, 5.4km detection etc. It has 8x 10km normal torps. It can choose either smoke or TRB.
  5. Needing a full reload wouldnt even be a problem - you would simply dump your DW against the nearest BB and then use the TRB to almost instantly load the normal torps. You would have them ready in seconds.
  6. Well I own an Asashio would disagree with both options. Adding 10-12km normal torps simply makes it a P2W kagero since it would have possibly longer range torps, as well as having both smoke and TRB while the kagero has to choose. Having the DW hit cruisers would also be a no for me as well. As hilarious as I might find it, these would absolutely murder cruisers. Regarding fighting other DD, depends what you face. Obviously you're not going to come out well inn a 1v1 with a gearing, but asashio faces anything from tier 6 - X. There are plenty of DD that you can beat in a gun fight. With plenty of use of islands/smoke you can also break a fight with an enemy DD into several smaller engagements which reduces their DPM advantage. Using this you can sometimes take on stuff that you "shouldnt" be able to win against. Generally the Asashio rewards patient play. I do have to ask though - how were you expecting it to play? You know it can only torp two classes. You knew it wasn't a gun boat either. It clearly wasn't going to charge into caps screaming "fite me".     I'd be interested to see with actual AA - zao can have great AA if manual AA is stacked with DF. Without, the AA is a bit mediocre. Obviously the fuso isn't exactly a normal target for a midway, and the shima has terrible AA

    As stated in the announcement you can't. You can do the directives later in the week rather than the day they come out, but once the stage (week) ends you can't do previous ones "As the new stage begins, the missions from the previous stage become unavailable.
  10. Well looking at it the sub has 3 levels - surface, periscope and submerged. Surface to refil oxygen. Freely shootable by anyone as long as it's detected. It's a squishy slow DD like this. Submerged can't be shot, invisible (probably not against hydro). Can be hit by depth charges. Uses oxygen. Can't attack. Periscope can attack. Low detection. Uses oxygen. Appears to be immune to HE (at least those big boulders in halloween) at this depth. Probably will eat torps. Maybe large calibre AP? Oxygen appears to be about 80 secs judging by video. Surface detection look about 5km. Periscope looks like 2.5km Torp range looks about 6-8km judging by minimap (there are several different subs shown). Reload time seems to range from 50 seconds for the 8km ones down to 18 seconds for the 6km

Because from that video they can't fire torps while fully submerged, have a limited oxygen supply before being forced to fully surface, are vulnerable AF while fully surfaced, move at 20kn max, and when firing torps from periscope depth uses up their oxygen supply, meaning that attacking forces them to fully surface sooner?
  12. The historical argument has 2 parts, one of which can largely be ignored. The first is that subs weren't used in fleet engagements. That can generally be ignored. They didn't have mixed allies/axis fleets that were equally matched sail around trying to capture circles either. The second is the subs themselves. These were slow, small, and didn't really have guns. Now you can tweak this a bit, since there are other ahistorical tweaks like battleships having a heal consumable, and DD reloading torps/torp booster consumable. However how far can you push this? Even if you make them move 20-25kn underwater that's still slow. If you only have torps then any target just needs to turn away and they can just avoid you. Similarly, you have a very low number of torps. If you don't have the speed to get close enough for a point blank torping, you make up for it with number of torps (shima, asashio etc). Being slow and only firing 1/2 torps at a time? Either those torps need to reload so fast you're a torp machine gun, or they need to move at the speed of light. Or be homing torps, but let's not go there.
  13. Let's be brutally honest, most of the people that want subs don't hugely care that they won't be historically accurate. Enough stuff already isn't historically accurate - BB accuracy, DD reloading torps etc. Subs moving "too fast" fits with the arcade "It looks like the real thing but it behaves differently" The real question is will the be fun (to play with/against), without being useless/OP, and without rendering another class worthless (looking at you IJN DD)

    Having played both I preferred the Fiji. Belfast is great against potatoes that have no idea how to mitigate fire damage or shoot into smoke. It's also great against DD that have no idea how to deal with radar. However Belfast has no sting in the tail because of no torps, so it takes time to wear a BB down. Which means if you meet a BB that is fast enough and bold enough e.g. scharnhorst or gneis then it will simply run you down. The tier 7 ranked season I had great fun sailing my scharnhorst directly into Belfast smokes and torping them at point blank range as they ineffectively fired their HE at me. The fiji also gets heal which means if you eat a volley while in smoke you can get a decent chunk of it back.

    Yeah both the historical battles and nation battles didn't work, but they were destined for failure regardless. Nation battles because they were single tier and were basically filled with 1 type of tank, making the result entirely dependent on which nation and map you got. Tier 6 RU vs UK on city map? Steam roll of KV1S exploding poor churchill VII's. Tier 6 RU vs US on open map? Blind KV1S's bumble around while 15 hellcats shoot them. The historical battles failed because of basic human nature. Did You want to be the top tier (limited places) IS or the two tiers lower cannon fodder T-34 that was basically there to get killed by enemy tiger? Yeah, entirely predictably there were hundreds of people queuing for IS/Tiger and almost no one that wanted to be T-34/Pz3

    I like them in all classes. BB it's surprise brawling time. DD it's come fite me. Depending on what I find you're either getting point blank torps with no support from your team, or I'm going to play with guns and use the 8km range to drop in and out of detection as you bring your guns to bear. CA/CL I'm going to wait till someone finds you first and then use the minimap and the O to spam you from 9km away. Who said stealth fire is dead?

    In addition to all the radar being on the allies side, you also have the best smoke (US DD), the best AA (US Ca/CL, RN CL, US BB), the cruisers that can produce smoke, and the AP bombs that are great against German BB.

    Against cruiser, Be aware of current positions of cruisers. You should be aware of this during the whole match to be blunt, but is especially important during a cyclone. Have last known position turned on if you don't already (and if you don't, then seriously, go turn it on there's no excuse to not use it). Cruiser then turns up vaguely where you are expecting it. It spots you at the same time you spot it. You immediately start avoiding torps and shoot it as it scrambles to escape. If it gets away you head towards last position of enemy BB, or to take/hold a cap depending on which is most important Against DD; If ! pops up and you can't see anything, it's a DD. Immediately begin manouvering, and continue to do so until ! Goes. Don't attempt to chase, head towards position of last know enemy BB, or take/hold cap depending which is most important

    If that is the case they'll switch (at least mid tier) to attacking BB as their primary - a single torp will be hard to hit a dd/ca, same with a single bomb. Depends how effective the rocket pods are, if you can reliably kill DD with them, or if you'll just tickle/annoy/reset caps with them

    I believe in the video it said the planes have a boost/engine power bar which is reduced when they accelerate/turn. When it's low the planes move at a lower speed. The bar regenerates, and the "speed boost" merely fills the bar faster
