0.8.0 CV question. What just happened?
Xevious_Red replied to Thanks_for_all_the_fish's topic in General Discussion
There was a Q+A with sub octavian where he said they're not happy with it -currently the planes fly up and very quickly (1-2 secs) leave AA. Presumably fixes for it would either be by lengthening this time, so they spend longer in AA, or by making them fly back at the same height they came in on (and thus fly through all the flak on the way out). Alternatively you could have planes retain any damage - so a plane that returns red will launch again as red rather than launching as a full HP green -
See I would disagree in several cases. First thing worth noring is that its not a flat 20% increase, its 20% more of the already increased number. So the higher your re-enforcement value is, the more it stacks onto it. A DD for example with +50% that take manual AA ends up with 180% because 20% of 150 is 30. CV (+60%) with manual AA end up with 192% A CV with this can kill off a large chunk of planes in the first run, or position itself so attacks only come from one direction. A DD with manual AA has a 5 sec switch time. So you flick sectors roughly 5 secs BEFORE they get to you. This way they remain in the active sector until they fly over at which point it swaps to the side theyve just flown into. On a BB however, its probably not worth taking, as the switch is a long time and the increase isnt that great.

The default key binding is really unhelpful given how often you will be using it. With it remapped to something comfortable its pretty easy. With it on the default key its horrible. Also the only reason I know about it was due to a dev stream. Unless you watch the how to or scrutinise the patch notes you probably wont find it even by accident
-
That was PTS 2. With PTS 3 and live it changes the continuous DPS instead of the explosions. Mostly because a ship with 1 burst cant exactly have 25% more, because 1.25 bursts doesnt make sense.

Its not a mod. Thats what the standard vanilla game shows

The New CV Is the funnest, Best thing ever!!1!
Xevious_Red replied to Riggerby's topic in General Discussion
Its actually doable on a single target. However the only way of doing it is to use the Hak with 8km torps. So of the 12 CV currently in the game, 1 is capable of doing this. -
Can confirm - took the Atlanta out with full AA (AFT, BFT, Man AA) and kept a shok in my sector at all times. Killed 10 planes out of 7 waves. One plane was a fighter. Shok easily bombed/torped the ships I was "protecting"

Start the run early and avoid turning. American torps tighten up quite a lot if you fly straight during the "arming" part. Turning during this will give you a huge spread, and they're very slow to narrow during the "active" phase

Is there anyone that likes this patch?
Xevious_Red replied to B051LjKo's topic in General Discussion
Theres a video that went around reddit where a guy in a russian (?) Bomber drops a single bomb and kills 2 ships with it. -

Ive been enjoying it. Been playing both carriers and "normal" ships and currently on a 70% WR for 0.8.0 Theres certainly some balance issues (tier 4 CV are really dull, tier X rockets utterly rinse DD) but otherwise Ive been enjoying it. -
Well for what its worth Ive been enjoying it. Theres some balance issues at high tiers with rockets vs DD but those issues arent really as bad at mid tiers. Planes do chip damage and DoT so you cant really alpha anything (except previous point of high tier rockets vs DD). You can however get decent damage through choosing the right targets and stacking DoT. The support role works reasonably too as you're still the best spotter and the largest source of fighters. For contrast (I like CV's, I just found the RTS version a tad dull), i brought a divsion mate who HATES CV. As in he wants them removed. He was happy with the amount of planes he killed vs the damage he took. He did play a BB for most of it which have supringly good AA, but he happily played games with 2 CV that would previously have made him rage quit. As a surface ship, Ive found them less of a threat than they were previously
-
Ive been enjoying it. With mid tier I've neither had a problem landing hits, nor have I had a problem dealing with planes. Rockets at mid tiers pester a DD but they dont outright slaughter it. Most games have had 1 CV, and the spotting has been less than normal (most people seem to not do much with them) High tier theres a lot of AA, encountered it with the Kaga which is rough on tier 6 planes. Havent extensively tested high tier DD - my impressions from.the PTS were that tier X rockets were OP. The combination of this, and that all the AA cruisers frequently have radar has meant Im less keen to try high tier DD until the first round of balancing and the "newness" has worn off. Teams do make me lol though. Seen some truely donkey plays today.

CV 8.0 - were we spoiled by the lack of CV's earlier?
Xevious_Red replied to philjd's topic in General Discussion
As far as Im aware the returning planes "fly high" and are no longer visible to surface ships, no longer get attacked by AA and no longer spot. -
Experience regarding the Reworked CV'
Xevious_Red replied to pzkpfwv1d's topic in General Discussion
Played 5 games in CV (hosho, langley, ranger x2, kaga). Took with me division mate who hates CV and constantly moans about them. Hosho: Jeez these planes are slow. Chugging across the map to deliver a torp that might do 3k damage. Flak is avoidable, but takes ages to rack up damage (got zero floods). Ended on 37k damage which is ok I guess for a tier 4. Felt like main purpose was spotting stuff. Division mate: carried game in phoenix. Didnt care at all about planes. Langley: Didnt really get to try this properly. I had just finished doing the opening stages (spotting DD, hounding them) when the game ended because the enemy had folded like wet paper. Only did 5k because of this Division mate: Not fussed by CV again. Ranger games: Ranger feels much nicer. Planes are faster, fighter consumable is useful for various things. Averaged 60k from these two games, and got several kills. Flak is manageable. Division mate: shot down quite a few planes. Got protected by fighters when he needed to cap epicenter in a BB near the end. Didnt rage about being against 2 rangers lilke he would normally. Kaga: got into a tier X game with lots off AA ships (salem, mino, NC etc). Tier 8-10 Flak HURTS tier 6 planes, and there was loads of it. Because of this I didnt do much damage (25k) but focussed on spotting, and trying to harass targets on the fringes. Most of the time screen was filled with black clouds. Although I didnt do too much damage and lost planes hand over fist I maintained a decent amount of spotting, and thanks to Kaga having truely massive reserves never felt frustrated about the losses. Division mate: Was in a cleveland. End result: 5/5 victories. Division mate who hates carriers: Didnt [edited] about planes once- 76 replies

Stats sites dont seem to be updating - I havent seen anyone with stats in the new CV for example

Except slight problem is the playerbase cant even decide WHAT it wants. Go look at some of the threads; You'll see theres threads declaring AA is useless and never shoots a plane down right next to threads claiming that AA is over powered with pics of 100+ plane kills. You'll see people claiming CV rule and delete everything in sight, right next to people claiming CV are so useless they cant even win coop. You'll see people claiming CV are ultra easy mode click on stuff next to threads claiming CV are impossible to land anything with. CV do hundreds of thousands of damage next to threads claiming CV do no damage at all and end with less than 10k Cv kill DD instantly, next to threads where CV get hunted by DD. About the only thing people seem to agree on is it's definitly not them.

Preventative Measures for Possible Pitchfork Feedback?
Xevious_Red replied to Reniwn's topic in General Discussion
You really want two threads - one for discussing things, and one for feedback where others cant see what you said. Ive seen enough threads where people get shouted down and called a shill or a troll simply because they like/dislike a change. Some people are fine with confrontation, others will shy away from voicing their opinion because of a bunch of loud mouths declaring that anyone that likes/dislikes the changes is a retard. -
Regarding the skill gap, its now pretty much entirely down to you. Previously your success/failure was highly dependent on the skill of your oppossing carrier - if they were a pudding you stomped them. If they were a unicum then you did next to nothing. Now the oppossing carrier doesnt affect your ability to do things beyond a few area fighters. However in many ways the skill gap is actually increased - theres greater opportunities for things like stacking DoT, using cover, stealth drops etc. At the same time theres no autodrop. So the great players can off huge numbers. The potatoes now dont even get any hits.

Preliminary analysis of CV skills/upgrades
Xevious_Red replied to El2aZeR's topic in General Discussion
-Let the sight close (fly in straight line) for a tighter spread. -Langley torps are ok against cruiser/BB/CV. -The hosho torps, because they are faster, are useable against DD -
Debatable. Saipan gets tier X planes which will make it hilarious if it gets top tier. However with a very low reserve size AND a very long respawn time it may well suffer more than the others in tier X games. Its planes will get shot down slower, but each loss is a much bigger set back

[new AA mechanics] about the non-overlapping auras
Xevious_Red replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Watching some smaller streamers on NA. Hilarious the anti cv ones. Watched a guy who going on about easy sky cancer, click and win etc etc. Takes ranger because "lol will delete". Does 5k damage in the entire game, labels them boring and finally begrudgingly admits they might need some kind of skill -
Discussion thread for "some interesting info around the world"
Xevious_Red replied to Deamon93's topic in General Discussion
That to be fair happens with most new ship lines (at least the BB ones). What Im debating is if I want to play the tier 4 ones straight away (and get stuck in the queue) or use the tier 8 prems where there will be less totally new CV's -
I share that opinion

[new AA mechanics] about the non-overlapping auras
Xevious_Red replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
I used the DB against BB mostly - their size aligns with the drop pattern, while their torp belt means they take less damage from torps. I used torps against cruisers, since the 50kn meant they were fast enough to hit while not being too reduced by torp belt -

I'd have to play around with DB a bit more. The AP DB actually interest me the most since they're the trickiest to use, but when you do it well they can stack up large amounts of non-healable damage. The HE DB are easier to use and can get large damage numbers, but these can be affected by the target using DC, already being on fire, being saturated, and the damage is healable
