Skilled matchmaking does have its own problems though: If you group all the similar skilled together, then everyone's stats will become roughly equal. The highly skilled will no longer be able to get easy kills, and will find dodging significantly harder because they face 12 highly skilled opponents. They also can't capitalise on mistakes as much since they'll have 11 teammates equally eager to capitalise on it. Equally the low skilled would get roughly the same stats since there's no longer anyone better preying on them. Now this isn't a bad thing, but you'd need a way of differentiating good and bad, other than stats, as soon enough everyone would have 50% WR and a KD of 1 The other way is balanced skilled - where each team gets the same number of pros, and derpies. This makes the match up even so everyone is likely to win 50%. However it means some will sabotage their stats to deliberately get a weaker opposition, and what happens when the pro players on each team ignore each other and just mop up the easy kills?

I'd like to see skilled match making, I think it'd be hilarious. The average Joe would be OK, they'd get a match quickly, have a team equally skilled and be against equal opponents. The elite might have a harder time: trying to find 23 other 65%+ players at the same time at the correct tier might involve quite a bit of waiting. Can you image the teeth gnashing of the stat padders though? Their precious 60% WR meaning they're forced to play against people that don't sail in a straight line. Most hilarious though would be the true baddies: 24 players, none who can aim, all of who crash into islands/hide on the blue line, all raging in chat that it's exactly everyone else's fault. They should live stream those matches, it'd be comedy gold.

I don't see any issue with it. Makes it situational rather than default choice. As for trolling, there's torp's and guns that are far more popular. Regarding shooting down your allies so there's more xp available for you: A). If you have an allied carrier that means you're facing 2 enemy ones, so it's not like there's a shortage of planes anyway. B). Plane kills are worth virtually nothing anyway. Only reason to kill planes is to get them out of the way of your bombers, stop allies being torp'd, or because you need air kills for a mission. You don't kill planes for XP/Cred because they're not worth anything

Been a while since I played tanks, last time I played it merely had total number of battles, and an overall rating, in which case yes, this would render my point redundant
-
In addition, just because you have a high win rate doesn't mean you're the most knowledgeable in that particular match. For example I'm sat on 58%, but I mostly play tier 5-6. My highest tier ship is tier 8, and my win rates at tiers 7/8 are noticeably worse: I'm not experienced enough (yet) at that level of play, the playstype and meta is different from mid tiers. I'd rather take advice from someone with a 50% WR who's played hundreds of games at tier X doing average damage than someone who stinks at tier X but has their WR propped up by hundreds of games at tier 2
-
Yeah I'm not a big fan of the reskinned ships. At least the murmansk while it's an omaha chasis plays differently due to the spotting plane instead of fighter, and the B hull on the omaha gives a totally different torp layout. Recently there's been a marblehead, which IS an omaha, there was the Halloween minekaze, the project R is another minekaze, but with a different skin, and now these 2. Hoping at least they have something to make them different - hydro acoustic search or something.

My general rule of thumb: Don't mind people with hidden stats for whatever reason (don't want someone to look them up and give abuse, don't want someone to look them up and focus, are just very private etc). If however someone starts throwing stat-based insults and has theirs hidden I'll assume that they're simply an idiot who's pretending to be better than they are. Similarly, if someone makes a claim along the lines of "noob teams always make me lose, I do all the work and carry hard" and their stats are hidden I tend to disbelieve them. It MAY be the case that a good player has them hidden, but there are far too many baddies that blame everyone else apart from themselves. Lastly, anyone calling for big changes that has their stats hidden I'm suspicious of - in the early days there were lots of players who were incredibly biased who essentially lied through their teeth to try to get their favourite class boosted. The usual claim "DD are easy mode, I always get at least 5 kills a game with them, and easily rack up 100k damage at tier 5, they should be toned down", which when you had a look at the stats expecting to see some god-like destroyer captain instead revealed a BB only captain who had never fired a torp in his life.

How come the [EU] never gives away consolation prizes for everybody who participates in contests?
Xevious_Red replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
I'm alright with there being a limited number (although given the other regions have essentially unlimited does make this a smack in the face). I'm also alright with not getting one: I'm not a special snowflake that has to have everything gifted to them. However I dislike that it's a lottery. I'm OK with not getting one because I couldn't play enough games, or I'm not good enough, or that others put more effort in, or that others were simply better than me, but not getting one because I'm unlucky kinda sucks. -
Well considering on the first page there's the now locked topic "matchmaking" by Thesmell where he complains about the enemy team having a 3 man division of tier 8, while his team only has 1 tier 8 and everyone else is 6/7
-
It's random. Had 3 man divisions that are all the same tier be top, middle and bottom, exactly the same as solo.

A thought that did occur was what if hydro acoustic was changed to have 2 areas, one close by that works exactly as it does now, and a further reaching area that shows up the DD as a hollow symbol on the minimap (same as how a ship that's not in your visual range looks). So a DD within 3.5 will be spotted, and a DD within 7 will put a ping on the minimap, but will still be hidden Means DD won't get nuked but cruisers can narrow down the area they're in and either blind fire, or get some planes to go check that area more thoroughly. Also perhaps where US DD can take AA instead of boost, have the Russian DD be able to take hydro acoustic instead of boost?

There are plenty of pairings that would easily be abusable: Fuso and isokaze for example - getting the best BB for its tier to always be top tier, while paired with a destroyer that can more than hold its own against tier 6 BB. Same with whatever your favourite tier 7 is + minekaze.

0.5.2.2 notes from RU server translated (plenty of bug fixes)

"Now for ships with "Repair party" equipment grey indicator showing the amount of hitpoints available for regeneration during the consumable's activation will be displayed on the ship silhouette in the bottom left corner." would appear to be the case -

Mostly bug fixes. Interesting one is the repair indicator; does this mean you now actually have an idea how much it's going to repair before you press it? -
Stock Bogue vs upgraded Air Superiourity Bogue - Dat Balance Yo
Xevious_Red replied to Aotearas's topic in Newcomers' Section
First question: What modules you using? For the bogue I liked the extra damage on fighters, and the increased fighter survival. Even with stock planes means they at least do a bit more (as he'll be using this). Secondly, barrage is the way to go. You can wipe out a squad of 6 planes in about 2 seconds with no casualties if you time it right. Lure him in (the bombers help for this) and use a barrage to just remove his fighters. The barrage affects both enemy and friendly planes so his 2 squads works against him (he can't barrage with both his at once as they'll wipe each other out - found this the hard way)- 5 replies

As I can tell, aim assist would give the following advantages: - Leading "standard" enemy ships going in a straight line at standard ranges. Useful for noobs, completely unneeded for anyone vaguely competent, since they can do this anyway. Can be defeated by turning, making it only useful in noob on noob action. - Leading unusual enemies travelling in a straight line at long range. How much lead do you give to a DD at 20km? This isn't something I could immediate tell you, similarly how fast does an iwaki alpha go? Might have a hard time leading that as I'd have to guess it's top speed. Can be defeated again by turning since its long range, so not very useful unless your target is completely unaware. - Shooting over islands. Trickier to do normally since you can't see speed (funnel smoke). On slow ships it's pretty obvious, faster ones less so. Turning will throw this off however. - Seeing if someone has started turning. While you can see this from the hull/minimap, if the minimap is small it's not so obvious, and the hull isn't immediately apparatus. Having a reticle suddenly start moving would be more obvious. Of course you'd still need to predict how much they'll turn, and aim along that course, reducing lead based on how much speed they'll bleed. Helpful for more experienced player, probably useless for noobs. - Shooting from the hip without using binoculars. Helpful for players of all levels since it frees up awareness to look for torps etc. Not very helpful if the enemy is dodging, but helpful if they're going in a straight line and you're trying to do 2 other things at the same time. That's why people think it should be banned - it gives benefits to people regardless of ability, giving noobs basic aiming abilities, while giving vets more info/easier to make snap shots while zoomed out.

Cleveland will be the ship of choice for me doing this simply because of the range - I can play normally but pop a few rounds off at a BB to set it burning in between doing my normal job of killing cruisers/DD
-
Reasons to get reports: - You came top (must be cheating) -You came bottom (must be useless) - You shot on target (must be using aim assist) - You killed someone (reported by them for being unfair) - You killed someone (reported by own team for kill stealing) -You hit with torps while invisible (romulan cloaking hax) - You spoke in chat - You sat in smoke and fired (invisible DD hax) - You have PL after your name (some free racism) - You have a polish ship (more free racism) -You were foolish enough to be in front of the friendly cruiser that torps you - You didn't follow that battleship into islands where he died immediately despite him pinging the map incessantly and calling you a noob. - miscellaneous reasons that only make sense to the players that fire 5km torps at targets 20km away and think they're good players that are just unlucky/have bad teams. Essentially karma is kinda a joke because the sort of people that love to scream "omg noob team, you're why I have 40% wr" also love to press the report button

question about basics of survivability
Xevious_Red replied to WarJagger's topic in General Discussion
I assume you mean basic firing training (10% faster reload for guns under 155mm), in which case yes it does help main guns that are small enough. So does the later advanced firing training (+20% range) -
The correct answer is that (in that situation) you'd get 14.4 Tested with Cleveland AA (5km Base, ends up 7.2), and warspite secondaries (5km Base, ends up 7.2)

Low tier torps now impossible to spot. (Umikaze OP)
Xevious_Red replied to Kazomir's topic in General Discussion
They should implement the newbie protection from Wot. Namely that anyone who is actually new (under 50 battles etc) only gets matched with other newbies (provided there is suffecient numbers). Stops seal clubbing. Currently I have the tachibana, but haven't used it. I liked tier 2, thought it was fun but I don't want to be seal clubbing: The player numbers aren't growing in leaps and bounds so I don't want to put off new players by making them face ships with full captains/flags just so I can have a cheap win. I would however happily play tier 2 against other captains who know what they're doing, but just want to play at knife fight range tiers -
Well the omaha isn't a great choice for ranked IMO - there's only 7 people on your team, some of which will be DD (and be hidden), some BB (probably behind you), and the rest clevelands/nuremburg (longer range, so probably behind you). With a pretty bad detection range and you get spotted early and are probably the easiest target. Throw on the fact that the ship is squishy with a nice citadel and yeah you'd probably look like the best target for a team looking to quickly swing the numbers in their favour.

best aircraft carrier for ars nova mission
Xevious_Red replied to Reisen__'s topic in General Discussion
Means you need to actually encounter a CV. Been using the Cleveland to try to do the DD mission. So far no CV in any games... At least using a carrier means you can guarantee meeting a carrier -
Carriers too slow need protecting game objective need changing
Xevious_Red replied to Anonymous_Legion's topic in Aircraft Carriers
The Langley is pretty bad. It's saving grace is that lots of people at tier 4 love going in a straight line, so you can get some easy kills. Anyone in a DD will probably kill you. The bogue is just bad, it plays at a tier where minekaze are aplenty, and has a choice between having the same load out as the tier 4, losing its main ability (anti air) and air defense, or being unable to inflict any damage. The bogue is the only ship I've rage sold halfway through the grind instead of finishing it off- 39 replies
