- the new camo gives +100% xp. Premium ship camo gives either +30% or +50% depending which tier ship it is. -money gain is the same -because getting the benefits of both camos and extra xp for free is plenty. Remember premium ships don't pay to replenish their camo -Since the only extra that the 50 gold camo gives over the ones available for silver is the extra XP, no. It doesn't make you win games any more than the ones available for silver

Patch 0.5.3.2 incoming - Russian cruiser preview
Xevious_Red replied to Takru's topic in General Discussion
Since the normal ships can now have both bonuses too then premiums having it for free doesn't fuss me. If it costs gold or is extortionate then it'll be an issue, but as long as it's for silver and not too expensive I don't think it's too bad. Does make economy at higher tiers more difficult though with larger expenditures. The individual offers is interesting- the possibility to have the kitakami without TK's being able to purchase it is possibly worthwhhile -
I'm currently at the bogue. CV are my weak point, I don't "get" them as easily as other ship types. Tried the AS load out, felt I wasn't contributing anything worthwhile to the team (and was useless as last ship). Tried the stock configuration but felt by having a little of everything wasn't any good at anything. Tried the strike and prefer it, but found myself needing decent AA to stop fighters camping me. I'll likely take the aircraft maintenence first anyway since otherwise all my planes are at a disadvantage, and a strike load out that can't launch very fast isn't exactly ideal. It's the tier 5 that's the question - if I take it I can have +1 bomber which obviously helps a strike load out, especially since other CV's are likely to have it. However if I take it, then realistically in an 18pt captain I can't have another tier 4. If I don't bother with it then with an 18pt captain I can have 2 more tier 4 skills, I. E. AFT and manual AA

The MM could have swapped their A division with your B division + pensacola and had everything more even. I wouldn't say it's an auto lose match, but it does look rather dull (50% of their team will spend the match trying to remain hidden)

Premium shop: Mikhail Kutuzov again for sale
Xevious_Red replied to JapLance's topic in General Discussion
As far as I was aware there's a reasonable mix of premiums: Considered "better" than their equal tier silver ships: Gremmy Atago MK Murmansk Imperator nicholai Blysk Considered "equal" Kamikaze/Fujin Marble head Aurora Tachibana Tirpitz Eden Diane Considered "worse": Yubari Sims Izi Atlanta Mikasa Warspite -
I like using the strike bogue now. And I prefer coming up against an AS bogue, since he's no threat to my team. If he flies off looking for my planes then I send them off in different directions - he has 2 squads of fighters, I have 3 attacking squads, so he can't go in all directions at once. If he covers his main fleet (BB) then I kill other things instead. You'd be amazed how many destroyers assume that torp bombers aren't meant for them. Especially if you fly over them, see them not react, and double back to torp them
-
Well the normal progression is play tier 1 until you're good enough, get the tier 2 cruiser, play that until you're comfortable, get the tier 3 cruiser and encounter carriers occasionally but be manoeuvrable enough to learn how to avoid torps, unlock and get the tier 3 battleship and learn how to deal with a slower reload and turning in the relative safety of the low tiers, get a tier 4 battleship and learn how to use it using all the previous experience. You literally skipped the tier 2 cruiser, tier 3 cruiser, tier 3 battleship and went straight to the tier 4 and now wonder why you don't know how to use it? Yes it's a one sided joke. Because you don't have any experience with the relevant ships and are playing against people that do. It's like having 1 driving lesson then entering an F1 race (and then complaining that everyone overtakes you)

I really like being bottom tier. Everything you shoot at is worth loads of XP -
Division with a CV player and you'll see them every game.

How do captain skills (and modules) apply to planes ?
Xevious_Red replied to SkybuckFlying's topic in General Discussion
they also need to be on the outside. Many crew complaints about the inward facing secondary guns -
DD T2 captain perk (torp armament vs last stand)
Xevious_Red replied to chaosrealm93's topic in General Discussion
I'd have Last stand for US, since they'll be firing a lot and thus more likely to be spotted. IJN tend to remain hidden, so I prefer torp reload. Last stand is only handy if you fire (and become spotted), or are bad at remaining hidden -
The March Wallpaper is the HMS Campbeltown....
Xevious_Red replied to MrFingers's topic in General Discussion
If past indications are anything to go by, they introduce 2 lines (different) at a time. We got US BB in the same patch as IJN CV during CBT. Then we got German CA and Russian DD together. Now we're getting Russian cruisers........and? British destroyers? -
Is a premium carrier needed in Wows?
Xevious_Red replied to Gefreiter_Fritz's topic in General Discussion
My opinion of premium ships (since I own a bunch of them) is they should be unique and offer something different that the silver ships don't. They shouldn't however be "better" than the normal ships. I don't want a pay 2 win model. I like the pay for easier grind, or pay for unique, but not p2w. Things like yubari being only tier 4 with defensive fire, or mikasa being only tier 2 BB, tirpitz having torps, arkansas having 6 upgrades etc are what they should have. Regarding noobs not being allowed premium CV: at tier 6 (which is where the saipan is likely to be) there's already loads of AFK carriers, AS indy's that shoot down less than 10 planes, and carriers that sit where they spawned and get TB'd 2 mins into the game. Having a bunch of people that have never played carriers before probably isn't going to change much. At tier 6 since there's not too many squadrons and people actually have AA then having a derpy CV isnt the end of the world -
Replacing Pensacola with Northampton
Xevious_Red replied to StringWitch's topic in General Discussion
I really like the pensacola. Powerful AP with lots of shells and blissfully accurate with a great shell arc and flight time. Armour is a bit squishy, but that's no different to omaha/phoenix and the IJN cruisers. -
Personally I'm starting to prefer cruisers simply because I have more control over what I do. My average damage with BB is not too bad, but I dislike that the way to do more damage is to simply be alive longer so you get more chances. Having a well aimed salvo splash around the target makes you feel cheated. Especially when the next does the same. Equally bad is when you fire, enemy turns so you deserve to miss, but a shell goes stray and citadels him. Then you feel cheap for getting a kill you didn't deserve. Personally I'd like a drop in damage for an increase in accuracy, although I suspect this would make a lot of BB baddies do a lot worse now they don't have RNG to give them a lucky hit.

Go home Match Making, you're drunk.

Clock in bottom right of pic says 22.14 My first thought was it was a 3am special but doesn't appear to.be the case -
I guess it's because I remember the weeks of ranting when the warspite came out. I own the warspite and really like it. The raw damage is lower than the fuso but imo that's more because the fuso is really really good, rather than the warspite being underpowered. However there were lots (and lots) of threads demanding the warspite be given the longest range (in addition to its brawling abilities), be made to be the most accurate etc etc. Words like "travesty" were thrown about. If you look at current threads, anyone with a particular bias towards one nation thinks the other has better - look at CV's, the people who only play US think they're being discriminated against because IJN have multiple units of TB. The IJN captains think they're being discriminated against because the US have better fighters and thus they have "no chance". There will be plenty of reasonable people who are happy to play RN, but equally, whatever weakness WG choose to use as the balancing tool for RN (be it armour, AP pen, range, HP turret traverse etc) there's likely to be a horde ready to link to some Wikipedia article that "proves" because 1 shell once hit something a really long way away that all RN ships should have super long range hyper accurate guns. (Insert relevant article that states they should have best armour, or fastest turrets or whatever)
-
Personally I'm slightly dreading the RN being introduced. If the ships are OP then the fan boys will be happy (probably describe it as "deserved") but it'll be bad for balance. If they're weak, everyone will complain, and the forums will be flooded endlessly. If they're balanced (having strengths and weaknesses), there'll still be tons of vitriol from the die hard fan boys for WG "daring" to not make them best at everything. Looking forward to new ships, being English myself means these HD more appeal to me than others, but not looking forward to the inevitable negative reaction regardless of how they're implemented

Cleveland Specs? AFT or Manual AA?
Xevious_Red replied to OldschoolGaming_YouTube's topic in General Discussion
I'd have AFT. I find that manual AA is handy if you're the target (I. E. Battleships), but AFT is more handy for support. Most carriers don't actively try to attack Clevelands, instead preferring to go around them. AFT makes it harder to go around -
Other option is you have the 6" guns as the main guns (and balanced around this), no secondaries and have the big guns keyed to "3" (instead of torps). Off set this by having the reload for the big guns quite long (60 secs)

About Cleveland AA guns and tier V Bogue
Xevious_Red replied to MotornaTestera's topic in General Discussion
Congratulations. You've hit the point where CV's go from "I can nuke anything with no repercussions" to "I should probably consider when and where to attack". Generally clevelands are worth avoiding with planes as they make a mess of planes. Equally worth avoiding atlantas. Tier 4/5 cruisers are still easy prey. IJN cruisers have poor AA, so Aoba's aren't too bad (although defensive fire will still make your drop zone huge) -
What is the worst premium ship in the game?
Xevious_Red replied to AndyHill's topic in General Discussion
Worst part is it makes me want the Atlanta. I know it's bad. I know it's disliked and regularly does worse than anything, but part of that appeals to me to see if it's something that can be used -
Anyone else suffering excess lag these last few days?
Xevious_Red replied to _x_Acheron_x_'s topic in General Discussion
BT infinity here too. Played one game of co-op, completely and utterly unplayable. -
It actually affects all destroyers, they can all benefit from it, not just tier 2 cruisers. This is like it was in CBT, where it increased range of AA/secondaries/destroyers main guns
